Do you know much of the history of the town you live near? I noticed some very old-looking stone buildings in your photos from the cow parade - does much of the town look like that or were those heritage buildings?

Unfortunately almost every town has some Ugly Modern Houses, but they're usually in the outskirts, while the centre is quite preserved. It's mostly ~200yo houses though, with the occasional very old house (like, 17th century). The towns that used to have a castle often still have a mediaeval layout, with a cluster of houses and narrow streets; sometimes (remains of) ramparts. And every village worthy of the name has the mandatory mediaeval church in the plaza (except mine which has a modern Victorian Gothic church that's like 150yo, but we have the ruins of a mediaeval monastery to make up for it)

One little local history fact I know is that this town that had the cow parade was named after a Central Asian tribe that invaded the region ~1,600 years ago and later helped fight off Attila when the Huns were invading! The cows don't know that. I love knowing where place names come from (unless they mean stuff like "by the river" which is boring.) I went to visit a Gallo-Roman site recently and there was a sign displaying some text by Julius Caesar in which he listed all the Celtic tribes he defeated here, and I thought it was so cool that some of these names are still familiar because they are preserved in place names. The Roman invasion days, two millennia ago, already feel quite faraway but by then the Celts had already lived here for centuries—I wish the specific Gallic tribe that started farming around here in the Iron Age could know that 2,500 years later people are still farming in this place that's still named after their tribe.

Your question made me realise that what I associate with "appreciating local history" is like, going to see the ruins of some 2nd century Roman thermal baths or temples or learning that a town was named after a guy who owned the place in 847 AD, and I don't pay enough attention to the 16th century houses near my dentist's office or the 12th century church in front of the vet clinic. I should appreciate these time periods more! I do love the look of mediaeval towns with their tiny tortuous streets that make life difficult for people who drive stupidly big cars. And I love mediaeval castles, though I've only visited 2 of the 150-or-so castles (not counting the ruins) this region boasts (I use 'boasts' ironically, there's another region nicknamed "the 1001 castles" so our score is pitiful.) (They don't actually have 1001 castles, they're lying, it's like 600, plus some glorified manor houses that don't count)

Last-minute addition: I drafted this reply last weekend and today I saw some ruins in a town where I went to have my spring water analysed, and decided to pop by the town hall to learn more. I learnt that the ruins are what remains of the town's castle, which "successfully resisted many English attacks" (that's what they always say) and was then offered by the King to a courtier in the 1450s, and the courtier hated it because it was 400 years-old and cold and draughty and falling apart so he never lived here. The town hall lady was so unimpressed by her town's attractions it was funny—I imagine if I'd been a tourist she would have tried to sell it to me more but knowing I live nearby she was like, well our town has a 13th century church like everyone else and here's our "castle" that's a ruin now and that was already a ruin in Joan of Arc times. To add some fun fact about their castle she said that a Valois Queen had slept there for a few nights at some point and I said eagerly "Queen Margot?" and the woman said "... no it was in the 1300s. Queen Margot went to [better castle farther North]", in such a humble tone that I felt bad for accidentally pointing out that unlike [Rival Town] they got one of those obscure Valois queens no one cares about.

like it is soooo abundantly clear that j*mes v*wles was actively looking for a reason to drop logan. like, the suddenness of coming to this decision after one bad race, one crash does not equate to enough reason to fire a driver so suddenly. like, yes, he has unperformed all season and i get that---but most of that can be directly blamed on williams themselves being so fucking under prepared this season??

logan had to drive with 2023 parts! i get he's the second driver, but being cast aside in a team that RUSHED your performance in the first place is insane to me. they were so quick to rush logan out of f2 into f1, and then completely butchered his chances of ever succeeding in the sport.

not to mention they're going to repeat history with franco which is DEVASTATING, because watching his f2 performances, he actually seems like he has what it takes to make it to f1 and be great! but in his own time. he's nowhere near ready for an f1 seat, he's only raced less than half the tracks that will be the remainder of the season, insanely under prepared, they're setting him up for failure. i don't mean that negatively because i wan't to see him succeed! but i'm just so. done. with williams.

Shen Wei doesn't start thinking again until after the battle, getting out of armor. He doesn’t know, still, how he’d crossed that battlefield. But the evidence was clear — someone had died under his blade that he hadn’t meant to kill — it was clearly real. He — he’s never heard of another Dixingren with multiple powers, two powers that were this unrelated. But he doesn't know what else it could be.

His original power, the one he’d been born with, inherited from a mother he’d never known alive, was to summon and dissipate weapons of dark energy from a thought. He’d cursed it all his childhood and then been quietly, resignedly grateful that it allowed him a place with the Alliance. He’d trained diligently until he could summon two weapons. But this — this is something else altogether, something he doesn’t know what to do about. This, he can't control.

A weapon in untrained hands is worse than no weapon at all, isn't that how the saying goes? A dark, forboding feeling churns in the pit of his stomach. Shen Wei's hands shake so badly it takes him a long time to peel out of his armor.

People are mad over mods

So yeah, there are 3 Mods for Astarion that are commonly used, and 2 illicit some vile hatred amongst the player-base for some reason, bashing not the mod itself but the people who prefer to play with these mods. Personally, i wanna voice my opinion because i have played with some of these mods (and deinstalled them for various reasons)

Younger Astarion; The reason i have used this mod is because it, to me, added immersion, simply because Astarion is an elf who died young and has stopped aging since. It doesn't really make sense to me - role playing wise - to have visible signs of aging a human of his age might have.

It makes sense for Gale who appears to be in a similiar age range to Astarion, with the main difference between those two being that Gale is a human; humans age differently. Even between humans aging it manifests very differently based on genetics, sun-exposure, diet etc.

I myself am just 9 years shy of Astarion before he died (going by the dates on the grave) and have no smile lines, forehead wrinkles or crows feet - so i don't really think it is that much of a contentious issue?

Black Hair Astarion (white hair version is what i used) - basically long haired Astarion people call this cliché, but.. you only see vitriol against those who change Astarions hair? By all means, if you prefer his hair in the Style Larian provided go for it, but why bash those who have other preferences?

No-Abs Astarion;

Actually a mod that is hailed for its "realism"? Astarion is 1,75m tall, or 5'9 (cannon) & about 55-65kg (~ 122-144lbs - sources differ) heavy, ... which are quincidentially the measurements of my boyfriend (1,75m / 55kg) So he is on the lower end of what is theoretically possible for Astarion and doesn't work out, and he has abs. Now, they aren't deep indentations, more of a faint outline of the rectus abdomini (or front-lower belly muscles)

If if you're underweight (which i was, briefly) abs will show. Simply because there isn't enough (often essential!!!) fat to cover the area. HOW they manifest though is entirely different to everyone.

That being said, the game model of Astarion appears way to broad and muscular. Truly realistic would be if there was a mod that would shrink his bicep, tricep, latissimus dorsii and external obliques (less arm muscles and a more skinny waistline)

Sincerely, i don't care if you use this mod.My stance is; Its a fantasy game, and you can customize your experience based on your preferences. But so do I - and others.

Especially because the people who hold vitriol against young Astarion mod - claiming it's way more "realistic" that he has visible signs of aging are the one who often use this body mod but don't see the issue. My guess is that this stems from a lot of first-time fantasy players who love the more mature aesthetic (compared to other games, such as Dragon Age) and bought this just to date Astarion yet don't really care for the lore-background, going by human standards and well ... that is fine!

For me, i have been obsessed with dating "the elf" since lord of the rings came out. I have been diving deep into this hyperfixation through books, shows and mostly video games of the same genre. I am also a metalhead who has a thing for "shorter" guys (<180cm) with long hair, so .. fuck me i guess?

Don is the third eldest child in his family, having an older brother and sister, two younger brothers and his baby sister

Don comes from a long line of fighters and champions. His father's side mainly being full of Matadors while his mother's side is full of boxers.

His dad was very strict about wanting him to grow up a Matador, and while Don enjoyed the job, he ultimately longed for something more. Luckily for him, his Abuelo, Mariano was a retired boxer, looking for someone to carry on his boxing legacy. Let's just say Don got quickly disowned after that.

Despite the past, Don ultimately loves his dad and his family. He wants to be someone his siblings can all look up to, and he thrives on their love and support

He is very artsy and loves to add colour wherever he can. Though the majority of his wardrobe consists of Red, Black and Pink, there are a few other colours sprinkled throughout

He loves the Major circuit boys, treating them as his second family. There was a bit of drama a few years prior to the events of PO!! Wii, but it was resolved after a match with Mac had humbled Flamenco.

Speaking of, Don did NOT like Mac when they first met. They are much closer nowadays, Don is a very good brother figure, but the tension between them on their first meeting was HIGH

Yes, Carmen is someone he talks frequently about to the boys. Yes, it annoys them to no end. No, he doesn't care

He loves his girlfriend. She is the crazy, upbeat and joyful energy that he needed in his life. She not only balances him out but also really helps him to find more opportunity
