first date
Wally Darling x Reader
Warnings: a lil silly if you don’t imagine yourself and Wally to be similar in height, bahahah! also, 'tis a biggin! plus, an important note at the end if you'd like to see!
although it is not necessary, I highly suggest reading my fics in their recommended order for the best experience! here is the link to all my silly lil wally fics in order. this is #10, wowzers! :)
Wally asks you out on a date, but little does he know.
“I think I’m all set,”
Wally stared at himself in the mirror, pushing a stray hair into place with his fingers. He inhaled a deep breath, brushing off his outfit.
“What do you say, Home?” He lifted his arms to the side, presenting himself to his friend with a spin, earning squeaks and creaks of approval in return.
“Oh, you,” He swatted playfully at the air, holding his cheek in response to Home’s (supposedly) kind words.
Wally ensured to get the bundle of flowers Frank and Eddie put together for him off the table, announcing that he was off as he started toward the door, only for it not to open for him. He paused, confused. Oh, was he forgetting something?
“Picnic basket!” he snapped his fingers, smiling brightly. “Goodness, my nerves must be getting to me,” he grabbed the basket and adjusted the gingham blanket on the top.
“Is that everything, now?” He questioned aloud, unable to recall anything else. Home squeaked, door swaying open. “I’ll take that as a ‘yes’,” he smiled, heading out and waving farewell, on his way to your house.
Despite the anxiety bundled in his belly, Wally had an excited pep in his step, confidence peeking through. He felt good about this. Excited!
He had flowers and a basket of your favourite snacks for you two, along with a perfect set-up planned for the dishes, too! With his outfit looking spiffy and hair looking chic, he was set!
In no time at all, Wally stood before your door, lifting his fist and knocking, swaying back and forth on his heels. Deep breaths, Wally!
Barely two seconds passed, and it swung open. It looked like you had just been getting ready to leave.
“Wally?” you smiled, seeming pleasantly surprised by his appearance. “What are the chances?”
“Oh, my. I hope I’m not disrupting any plans,” he fretted.
“Not at all,” you reassured. “Actually, I was about to go looking for you,”
“Is that so?” he asked, head tipped to the side with curiosity.
“Yes,” you leaned back, grabbing something off the table. “I was going to bring you these,”
You held a bundle of tulips out to him, red, orange, and yellow. Wally’s eyes widened, his smile growing.
“Well, isn’t that a silly coincidence?”
He untucked the bouquet of flowers he brought for you from under his arm, holding them out, though his expression fell as he noticed their appearance.
“My… I guess I should’ve been a little more careful,” he sheepishly shifted around the slightly squashed flowers, attempting to fix them up a little better. “I’m sorry,” he apologized shyly, a little downed by his mistake.
Despite the disheveled appearance of them, you happily accepted, handing him his as you examined the beautiful bouquet. “They’re wonderful, Wally,” you awed with delight. “Why don’t you step inside for a few moments? I’ll get these in a vase real quick,” you opened the entrance further for him, walking over to the kitchen.
Wally followed you inside, staring down at the flowers you’d given to him, a giddy little smile playing at his lips. Great minds think alike, don’t they?
“So,” your voice recaptured his attention as you snipped away at the stems of the flowers, carefully sliding them into a vase filled with water. “What else brings you here? Were you just passing by?” you questioned as you walked over, placing the colourful display on the coffee table in front of your couch.
“Actually,” Wally began, holding out the picnic basket. “I came to invite you for a picnic with me,”
“A picnic?”
“A picnic,” he affirmed. “I figured, it’s a beautiful day outside, and I would like to take you on a proper date. Wouldn’t that be nice?”
“Why, isn’t that just charming of you,” you teased playfully, although the light flush on your cheeks displayed your true feelings.
“I do try,” Wally grinned. “Would you do me the honour of accompanying me?”
“I would love to,” you agreed. “I thought you looked a little extra handsome today, so I was wondering what you were up to. But, those simply may be my thoughts everyday,”
“How very sweet of you,” Wally reddened a little now, walking to the door, pulling it open for you and gesturing you through. “Shall we head out, then?” he asked.
“We shall, I suppose,” you chuckled. Something caught your eye first, your face lighting up with realization. “Oh, right! I grabbed this for you while I was at the store, too. Couldn’t resist,” you plucked the Red Delicious apple you’d gotten for him off the table, offering it to him. He accepted it gladly, smiling.
“How thoughtful as well,” he smiled. “Thank you, I appreciate it. It’s nice to know I seem to be on your mind as much as you’re on mine, too,”
Your cheeks darkened at his comment. “More than I’d like to admit, personally,” you grumbled under your breath, walking through the door, Wally following behind, sliding his hand into yours.
“Oh yeah?” he hummed, watching you in amusement as your cheeks brightened ever so slightly.
“You weren’t meant to hear that.”
It wasn’t long before you two arrived on a hill you frequented together, treading up to the shade of the tree that sat at the top. Wally took the blanket off the basket, laying it out on the ground, allowing a clean place to sit.
“What a nice day it is,” you mumbled, laying back in a starfish position and enjoying the warmth in the air. A gentle breeze drifted by every once in a while, rustling through the leaves above.
“Agreed,” Wally said, watching you with an adoring smile on his features. “Although any day is a nice day with you around, in my mind,”
“I could say the same to you, Darling,” you peeked up at him with a grin, propping yourself up on your arms.
“Why, thank you,” he grabbed the apple he’d been carrying, lifting the lid to the picnic basket to place it inside for later. He froze halfway through the action.
His brain went blank.
“... Wally?” you questioned. “Are you alright?”
… Where was the food?
He slowly shut the basket’s lid, lips slightly agape, eyes shyly meeting yours as you scooted over.
His shoulders sunk, embarrassment bubbling in his stomach as you peeked inside the basket for yourself.
“... I grabbed the wrong basket,” he whispered.
Your eyes locked with his guilt filled orbs, surprise filling your own.
Wally’s head dropped as he deflated a little more with shame.
But then, you laughed,
“You grabbed the wrong basket?” you sniggered, Wally offering a little nod of confirmation. “That’s no big deal at all, Wally” you claimed, reaching out and tilting his chin back up to make him look at you. “Guess we just have to ration the apple, huh?” you teased, pecking his forehead.
“Consider it yours,”
“I’m only kidding,” you giggled, pushing it back towards him. “It’s all yours, Darling,” you said, twisting your body to lay on your back, head resting in his lap.
Hesitant, his arms slowly snaked loosely over your shoulders as he gazed down at you, fingers toying with the fabric of your shirt.
“... you’re not mad?”
“No, I’m not mad. Not at all,”
“Really?”
“Truly,” you smiled, hands coming up to rest on top of his. “I’m more than happy just to spend time with you. I was glad to have this outing as an excuse to,”
“Goodness me,” he mumbled, cheeks flushing lightly. “I sure am a lucky one, aren’t I?” he sighed in relief, thumbs brushing along your jawline.
“You sure are,” you jested, grinning up at him.
Together, you sat in an equal amount of talking and silence, simply enjoying the other's company. Wally became a little less uptight, trying to relax and enjoy the moment more, despite still feeling discouraged over all the things that had gone wrong so far.
Everything that could go wrong already has now, hasn't it? The hurdles had been passed, and you didn’t seem put off one bit.
He watched you as you animatedly retold a story, hands waving in the air as you explained it to him. You were much too preoccupied to notice the absolutely smitten look on his face, entranced by your every move.
Until he felt something on his shoulder.
And then something on his other.
And then, a big wet drop hit your forehead.
“Uh oh,” you chuckled, wiping a droplet away and holding out your hand. “Looks like it’s starting to rain. Those clouds sure blow in quick, I didn’t even notice,” you sat up, standing to your feet.
“Oh no,” Wally mumbled, “we’d better get inside before it begins to pour,”
And as if those were the magic words, it did just that.
The sprinkle was swift to turn into a drizzle, and that drizzle soon turned into a shower. It left next to no time for you to get to any proper cover, apart from the tree.
The leaves of the tree blocked out some of the rain, however you were still getting a little wet. Unsure whether to wait it out or leave, Wally watched the rainfall, disappointed with the way everything just had to turn out.
“Say, maybe we can use the blanket as some extra cover an–”
He was cut off as his foot slid on a patch of slippery mud, leading him down, flat on his back with a grunt. Out in the open, not to mention.
At this point, he couldn’t even bother anymore.
“Are you okay?” you worried, sliding down onto your knee next to him, uncaring toward the mud that got on your clothes.
Wally stared blankly up at the sky, his smile pitiful at this point.
“This is quite the downer, isn’t it?” he uttered.
Wally gazed at you, his eyes brimmed with tears that threatened to escape.
“I messed everything up today, huh? Ha ha,” he forced a chuckle, looking to the side as he lifted an arm to wipe at his face.
“I’m sorry,” he mumbled. “I wanted to treat you today, to impress you,” his wet hands covered his face, humiliated.
“I wanted to show you how I love you so deeply, and to ask…” he hesitated. Should he even say it now? He just felt like it would go poorly, anyways. Instead, he sighed, dropping the subject.
“Never mind, all that…”
His hands fell to his sides, spread out as he accepted his miserable fate. He felt so defeated. Thoroughly, downright destroyed, by now.
Not a single thing seemed to go his way today. Murphy’s Law was on his tail! From when he grabbed the wrong basket, he smushed the flowers, he forgot to take the weather into account, he slipped and got you both all muddy... What's next?
With how poorly this outing with you has gone, why would you want to go on any more with him?
As he went to apologize to you once more, you beat him to speaking.
“Dance with me,” you said.
Your hand came into Wally’s view, palm up, requesting his.
He met eyes with yours, lost.
Shouldn’t you be upset with him? Or anything that's not wanting to dance?
“I ruined our date,” he voiced.
“Well, I don’t see it that way,” you disagreed, “I don’t think you’ve done anything wrong. Maybe some mishaps have happened, but…” you trailed off as you looked around, peering back at him.
“I see it as a memorable first date with you,”
“Memorable is one way to describe it, I suppose…” he grumbled. You giggled, shaking your head.
“I mean that in a good way,” you chuckled. “I’ve enjoyed this. A lot. Maybe things didn’t go according to plan, but… sometimes, it’s fun when things go astray,”
“So come on,”
He stared at you, befuddled by your words. He had been unsure that he could love you any more, but with each passing day, you seemed to prove that assumption wrong.
“Dance with me, Wally. Please?”
So, timidly, he accepted your hand, standing back to his feet with your help.
His hair was drooped in front of his face, dampened by the rain, as were both of your clothes by now. And yet, you showed no sign of caring.
Instead, you led him further away from the little cover the tree provided, stopping in the middle of the road.
“We have no music,” Wally pointed out as you turned toward him, his hands in your own.
“Won’t you sing for me, Wally?” You joked with a giggle. He chuckled weakly, shaking his head.
“You and I both know I’m not the best singer,”
“And yet, you and I both know that’s not what it’s all about,” you begged to differ, “It’s about the enjoyment, and I enjoy the sound of your voice, personally. Plus, you and I both know I’m not the best dancer, but here I am, asking you to dance with me,”
“I think you’re a wonderful dancer,”
“As I think you’re a wonderful singer,”
He opened his mouth to reply, only to close it right back up.
Touché…
He couldn’t come up with any argument for that. So, with an amused huff, he pulled you closer and began to hum a tune for you, leading you into a slow, simple dance.
As you swayed lazily in the street together, Wally could almost feel his tension melt away in the rain. He felt as if his cares had faded, with you in his arms.
Sure, the picnic was ruined (though it seems that it was from the start), his hair was sopping wet, and his clothes weren’t much different, he could put up with it, if this feeling of tranquility with you is what he gets in return.
As he continued to hum, Wally lifted his arm, twirling you in the dance and carefully dipping you, smiling as you giggled.
When he lifted you back up out of it, you pulled your grip away from his, leaning against him.
Your arms wrapped loosely around his hips, the man stood still as a statue in your embrace for a moment, before he carefully laid his arms over your shoulders. He’d gotten better, with time. He wanted to improve for you.
“Wally?” you murmured quietly, catching his attention.
“Yes?” he replied.
“Tell me what you were going to say, won’t you?”
It took Wally a moment to comprehend the meaning behind your words, but soon, he understood. The corners of his lips tugged up a little more, and he gently pulled you closer.
“Well, I wanted to ask you a question, since it had come to my attention we hadn’t spoken about it before,” He said, pulling back slightly to have a better look at you.
“So, I wanted to request of you, if you would please accept me as your significant other,” He murmured, eyes gazing lovingly into yours.
“I’d be glad to, Wally,” you smiled back at him. “I would love nothing more than that,”
Wally’s smile grew wider. Thunder rumbled gently in the distance, the warm rain continuing to hit against your skin. Both of you were completely drenched by now, soaked, muddy, and yet none of that mattered, with how incredibly content you were in each other’s presence.
“I desire nothing more than that,” Wally hummed, his hands cupping your cheeks. Your own found his wrist, gripping them lightly.
“You know, my darling,” you hummed, his surname falling from your lips with more meaning. “I’m completely and utterly in love with you, Wally,”
His lips tugged upwards.
And that’s all he needed to hear.
Eliminating the little space between the two of you, his lips met yours in a slow, tender kiss, while the rain continued to pelt down around you.
“Same to you, my love,” Wally murmured, forehead pressed to yours.
“Yes!” Julie leaped up, fist pumping the air, rain poncho shielding her body from the rain.
You jumped back from Wally in shock, cheeks flushing deeply with embarrassment.
“Julie!” Frank scolded, yanking her back down behind the bush.
“Sorry!”
FINALLY!!! IT'S HERE!!! I am so sorry for the long wait!!! hopefully this long fic makes up for it!!!
it has been a month since i started this series!!! wow, has it ever flown by!!! thank you to everyone for their support, especially to those of you who have interacted with all of my stuff. I notice you. you pop up in my notifications and i occasionally say aloud, "thank you kittenpickles692" or whatever your strange url may be!!! i do not believe a kittenpickles692 exists, but perhaps i should look into it!!!
but!!! thank you all!!! i really truly appreciate it!!! i won't lie, with how this fic goes, i may consider leaving this 'series' here. what i mean by this though, is the pulling away from the fics following a 'storyline'. i will more likely than not still write these and they will still be considered part of it, but they will be much more random moments instead, bahah! simply different tidbits of your relationship with wally, all in this same 'world' i have written about.
here is a link to my silly lil wally fics in their recommended order if you would like :) these can also be found on my ao3 B) I also have a ko-fi if you'd like to support me!
alas!!! I believe this is all for now!!! i truly hope that you enjoyed, and i will be back soon!!! likes and reblogs are very appreciated! MWAH!!!

hey i saw stuff about ur asau (hermit!yusuke is perfect and kitteh ann is the fluffiest little baby and i love her) and i just wanted to ask if you have the other arcanas planned? is it a direct one to one swap or is it different?
omg. ty for giving us a chance to introduce
ฅ^•ﻌ•^ฅ card shuffle ฅ^•ﻌ•^ฅ
@floodbender’s and mine roleswap au in which the story roles are remixed based on randomly reassigned arcanas + canon backgrounds
it’s kind of a work in progress so this is not q definitive & some arcs are less developed than others, but we do in fact have something planned for everyone :3c let's meet the cast!!
starting with <3 bitter bitch besties <3
○ the fool – akechi
he has pretty much the same backstory as canon, but without Metaverse access; therefore his only outlet has been trying to prove himself academically etc. to show them all
it isn’t really working. even with all the effort, he still gets written off automatically most of the time
there is no arrest/probation/anything out of the ordinary that brings him to staying with Sojiro and going to Shujin, just a last minute arrangement by his previous foster placement
Akechi POV: you’ve been booted from a family who didn’t want you there for the n-th time in your life and are now moving to stay with some rando who doesn’t want you there either. and everyone at the new school immediately labels you a troublemaker with a problematic background
(of course Shujin is going to make up rumors regardless)
personality-wise, it is as you might expect from a no powers AU Akechi - at the start he’s a bitter, cynical bastard masking behind his Pleasant Boy mode
would have eventually snapped in some self-destructive way if he didn’t meet someone who gets it
rest of the story is spent rehabilitating this man with the power of friendship, mutual understanding, and insane romance. and flufy kity
akechi and makoto: the world is a cruel and unjust place. *minutes later* omg lady ann!!!
i. the magician – ann
flufy kity
backstory inherent to the arcana role
she does not have hang ups about not being human specifically and embraces cathood quite well
instead her issues stem from feelings of comparative inadequacy and not knowing what her role in life and on the team is supposed to be, especially after the PTs get a dedicated navigator
similar to her canon arc, she does mostly handle these feelings by focusing on trying harder & with more purpose rather than growing resentful
when Morgana coined the ‘Lady Ann’ nickname it stuck and now everyone calls her that
still has a widdle crush on Shiho
the only reason Akechi has any side confidants
vii. the chariot – makoto
Makoto handles pressure from Sae far worse in this one
attempted to investigate and expose Kamoshida’s behavior on her own last year and got kicked off the student council for her trouble
grades are suddenly hard to keep up even though she’s putting in the same amount of effort if not more. keeps being left ‘accidentally’ out of the loop about important info. school just kind of making it clear it doesn’t like her anymore
entire social circle crumbled and no support from Sae who at this point is simply mad at her for ‘sabotaging herself for childish reasons’
would have eventually snapped in some self-destructive way if she didn’t meet someone who gets it
disillusioned, desperately lonely, and stewing in a lot of suppressed rage
in light of this it’s not surprising that she and Akechi end up bonding pretty much right away in spite of his typically raised hackles
used to be friends with Haru in middle school
vi. the lovers – haru
while Okumura still has a Palace, his behaviour towards Haru is more distant and less outright abusive, and she does not have an engagement hanging over her
instead Kamoshida creeps on her, fixated on adding a demure chaebol princess to his conquests
Haru’s having trouble rebuffing him as she has issues setting down boundaries with men in general due to her proper upbringing, and is of course scared of his position of authority
in particular, the rooftop garden becomes a hazard for being cornered instead of a sanctuary;
(fortunately it is also a prime place to be overheard by anyone who's heading up there for definitely not a teen vigilante meeting)
Kamoshida lets out that Haru is the Okumura Foods heiress, which makes her seem like a stuck-up rich princess to the Shujin rumor mill and leaves her ostracized
with regards to Makoto: in Shujin Kamoshida Issues forced them to drift apart, and now, even though both of them want to reignite the middle school friendship, each is reluctant to involve the other in her own respective mess via association
(pictured: childhood friend matching bwacelets)
after that is sorted, they reconnect and begin a prolonged awkward romance dance
(meanwhile the rumor mill is busy debating which one of them is dating Akechi)
iv. the emperor – joker ren akira
legal name, under which he is mildly famous, is Ren Amamiya, actual name he goes by is Akira
for these claiming your chosen identity reasons, his codename is Daybreak :)
his parents are both in the entertainment industry, and the second Palace belongs to his father
Dad Amamiya is a formerly acclaimed, currently washed-up movie director. a nightmare to work with who uses his old connections to run people he doesn’t like out of the industry and ruin their careers
his wife is aware of his transgressions but is too attached to the lifestyle to care
to Akira’s parents, he is more or less a prop in their public performance as a happy picture-perfect celebrity couple; in his father’s Palace, his cognition is played by an actor
he had long since learned that going against his parents achieves nothing, and has been going through the motions keeping his head down until he meets the team
the meeting is a chance encounter prompted by Emperor-typical overwhelming fascination with Ann, which in his case is because he’s That Much Of A Cat Person
rest of his arc is about separating himself from his parents’ legacy as somebody who still wishes to pursue a career in entertainment
ii. the high priestess – morgana
he has Ann’s parents and last name since she doesn’t need them anymore
unlike her, he doesn’t handle their constant absence well and is therefore desperate for the Thieves’ companionship (while being just as tsundere about it in human form as he is in canon)
he kickstarts the Kaneshiro plot despite not being on the student council: since he is a very special smart boy, he can absolutely solve Shujin’s mafia crisis all by himself!
(it is probably rather obvious how well this goes)
his arc is a more mundane version of his canon one about recalibrating the self-worth issues and loneliness until he can be comfortable with himself and his place in the group
his awkward crush here is converted into being an even bigger Ann Stan than the rest of them
still besties with Akira. also perpetual ninth wheel
ix. the hermit – yusuke
Madarame does not have a Palace
without the international recognition from stealing Kitagawa-san’s masterwork he has to subsist on smaller-time forgery and predatory contracts and the like
his main victim is Yusuke’s mom, who lived long enough to start actually raising her son, but her poor health made her the perfect exploitable dependant
after she succumbs to her illness, Madarame proceeds to take his frustrations over losing the convenient setup out on Yusuke in his typical insidious way
over the subsequent years trapped in an abusive living situation you’re told to be grateful for, the comments about how she would have lived longer and created masterpieces if she didn’t have to take care of you accumulate to create the most depressed teenage boy in the world
as far as Madarame’s concerned, if Yusuke’s too miserable to keep up with his schoolwork, it’s just another instance of him being a drain on everyone in his life. Madarame’s not going to cater to him and pay for his scholarship – he can just stay in and keep house, if that’s all he’s good for
that leaves Yusuke just listlessly haunting the place, convinced that all he can really do with his life is wait to die and go to hell for the sin of being himself: he sees his life with Madarame as perpetual penitence for his mother’s death, his work as almost ritual sacrifices to appease him, and the shack as his purgatory [--beginning navigation]
his Palace is stylistically themed after the Shinto Yomi with more general underworld theming as well; cognitive Madarame is of course the final boss, although he only drops the benevolent underworld guide pretence once thoroughly provoked
the gang finds out about All This after a series of Mementos requests from Madarame’s latest underpaid helper
post change of heart we’re getting Yusuke the fuuuck out of there
Sojiro ends up taking him in, first temporarily and then permanently
neither of us has the vocabulary to concisely explain the respective holes in their heads this Yusuke and this Akechi have about each other
team navigator. please take a moment to imagine yusukespeak navigator lines
iii. the empress – sumire
the Okumura setup is still happening (sorry Haru), but the PTs recognize it as bait and stay away, instead ending up doing a different palace entirely
the Palace Ruler for this arc is the Yoshizawas’ abusive coach (not the one from Sumire’s confidant)
a classic unethical teen sports situation with disproportionate pressure and a concerning disregard of their physical and mental wellbeing as long as they Get Results tm
neither of the sisters is good at standing up for herself, which in Kasumi’s case spirals into continuous self-denial for the sake of The Sport and in Sumire’s exacerbates her feelings of inadequacy
at the moment Kasumi is being pushed to compete despite an injury which would put her out of commission, which is the deadline/reasoning to deal with this ASAP
the palace theme is Colosseum/gladiatorial arena, with the implication of entertainment of the masses at the expense of the athletes’ lives
(pictured gladiator!cogsumi)
xi. justice – ryuji
Ryuji is the one to get slapped with the arrest record courtesy of Shido in this one
the consequences for a 14yo on scholarship and with no support system outside of his mom (except he just feels guilty about creating problems for her) are predictably devastating
he winds up at Shido’s Palace afterwards by accident while loitering around the Diet building, which is where his awakening happens
he’s spotted entering or exiting the Metaverse, which leads to Shido making him the job offer he cannot refuse
initially framed as “help with secret research” in exchange for erasing his record and bankrolling opportunities for a sports career, but it’s not like there are any easy ways out once the requests starts getting seedier
he’s just the Metaverse assassin/errand boy for the conspiracy, no astroturfed public persona
to an extent Ryuji convinces himself this is for the best since many of his targets do very much have it coming and it’s AN outlet for letting out some steam over the bleak as shit view of society he now has, but ultimately this arrangement and all the murder involved make him utterly miserable, and on a level he understands this is not going to end well for him
gives himself away to the Phantom Thieves early and in the dumbest way possible
for all the above reasons, he’s not at all hard to persuade to switch sides and start double-agenting
did you guess who’s faith no you didn’t
○ faith – hifumi
we just really like hifumi so she’s included
at first her deal is a toned down version of her canon arc, with her mom pushing her towards an idol-like career based off of shogi. then her father actually dies
mom’s grief response is to lean in further into building her career, thinking that this is what her dad would have wanted; Hifumi’s own grief response is to start crumbling under that pressure until “I wish I could just be the person my mother wants to see” is the prevailing sentiment
this is where Maruki’s unethical therapy comes in and actualizes her into the perfect teenage celebrity personality
thirdsem Hifumi is terrified she will never be enough as herself and it takes the team effort to get her to let go of the idol persona, but conveniently there are SO many people with parent issues here to talk to her about it .
bonus: xvii. the star – futaba
Wakaba survives the assassination attempt, but is left unable to continue her scientific work, igniting Futaba’s interest in researching the topic herself
her confidant’s Mementos quest block is still her uncle, who is not as horrifically abusive, but treats them poorly and demands Futaba reimburses him for taking care of them financially
Sojiro is still a pseudo-parental figure in her life, but his role is limited since he cannot insert himself into the situation without permission and Futaba conceals the extent of it from him
she becomes available as a confidant during Yusuke’s arc, which still overlaps with the Medjed crisis
her fixation with cognitive pscience leads to digging into the Phantom Thieves leads to offering to deal with Medjed for them – but only if they prove themselves to her by sorting out a specific request that hit a little close to home. cue Yusuke arc
from then on she’s their tech guy
and that's everyone ✧∘* thank you so much for expressing interest and thank you @floodbender for cowriting this post with me ♡

i been listening to too much lana del rey, and You Can Be The Boss drives me so insane like it fits homelander so well in my mind GRAHHH. imagine being some employee for vought, not too low but not too high up. youre at a vought hosted party, supes and all that but you never really cared for that; after all, you only took this job because it paid well. the company party was mandatory but to be honest you were just looking for a chance to escape and go home. the dress you had on was too tight, the smell of alcohol and all the fake laughter overwhelmed your senses when you didnt even drink much. stumbling in the crowd of well dressed business men and gorgeous women, you walk straight into him, the homelander. he doesnt know why you really caught his attention, maybe he could tell you didnt belong among the crowd of money hungry business people and drunk out of their mind supes, or maybe the tight dress just complimented your figure a bit too well for him to brush you off. he doesnt make it obvious at first, he just laughs and assures you that you didnt cause him trouble by walking into him, "woah, you better watch your step dear... you alright?" he puts his hand on your waist although he knows you dont need help balancing yourself anymore. he really just wants your scent to last longer on him. like a bloodhound, later through the night he'll try to find you through the crowd of people, tracking the smell of that cheap perfume you wore. he finds you by some desk makeshifted into a well made table for the night, drink in hand he approaches you. "ah, you! youre the uh, the girl who walked into me earlier, right?" he asks even though he damn well knows the answer.
"oh, god, im so sorry about that, sir... i wasnt paying attention and-"
"oh, please... dont be sorry! hell, i should be thanking you for saving me from those black ties... ah, i never caught your name..."
although youre completely starstruck you manage to make some small talk, mentioning somewhere along the way that he was your favorite hero. he practically shows his smirk at this point.
"oh, please... what, you young people are still into classic supes like me?" he fucking knows the answer but he needs his ego stroked.
as you answer he leans over, grabbing a cocktail napkin (also using this as a sneaky opportunity to look over at your tits, just to see if hes really gonna do this.) and pulling out a pen, he carries one around everywhere just in case a fan comes up to him.
"c'mon... ill give you an autograph... ah, after this i have to go and y'know... give the big toast..." he practically sighs it out.
youre completely flattered... and, yeah, a little weirded out but hey, free autograph.
he hands back the now folded napkin, walking back into the crowd, cape flowing behind him as you lose sight of the red white and blue.
unfolding the napkin, you see written clearly his perfect signature.... under it, a phone number.
[AHHHH IVE NEVER WRITTEN ANYTHING BEFORE AND I GOT CARRIED AWAY IM SORRY] i also didnt proof read so sorry if anything is misspelled!!
You hold on to that number for a couple of days, looking at it every so often. There's a new undertone of anxiety at work; suddenly you're nervous about running into him, even though it's never happened before. You don't work anywhere near the 99th floor, and yet there's a constant prickle at the back of your neck, the presence of the napkin in your pocket a constant reminder.
The feeling follows you home. You can't shake it, you can't stop thinking about it. About him. You pull out the napkin just to stare at it sometimes, to remind yourself that really happened. Why the hell would The Homelander give a nobody like you his number?
On the evening of the third day, thoroughly plagued by this accursed napkin burning a hole in your pocket, you finally call the number elegantly scrawled across it. It rings once, twice, thrice. Your heart is pounding so hard you can barely hear the ringing.
There's a click, and your heart stops. You hear an amused huff of breath on the other end of the line in place of a greeting.
"I was beginning to think you were blowing me off," Homelander says, but you think you can hear the smile in his voice.
Your mouth feels dry, full of cotton. "No, no, I wasn't, uhm... Sorry, I would have called sooner, I was just—"
"Nervous?" Homelander cuts in. His voice is low, and feels unbelievably intimate in your ear. You bite your tongue, feeling a flush crawl up your chest. "Don't be nervous, sweetheart. I'm glad you called."
You try to laugh it off, try to regain an ounce of calm. This guy really is larger than life, even over the phone. "Yeah? Why's that?"
"Because I have not been able to get you off my mind," he purrs. You can't see the absent way he's flipping a pen, the same one he used to sign that napkin, between his fingers. Just like you couldn't see the way he has been watching you through the floors and walls of Vought tower, or in your own home, how his lips would twitch every time you pulled out that napkin to stare at his signature, and his phone number.
Fuck, the fact you carried around that napkin everywhere haunted him. The way you would take it out just to stare or run your fingers along the writing was damn near reverent. The look of worship in your clueless eyes, totally unaware your god was watching you in your moment of prayer, was almost too much for him. Still, he remained patient, and now it's finally paying off.
As all worthwhile hunts do.
Caught off guard, you stammer, mouth opening and closing. "I, uhm, I've been thinking about you, too," you say. Your tongue feels clumsy, like a brick of lead in your mouth. "I really enjoyed meeting you that night."
"Well, I would hope so. You did tell me that I'm your favorite," he goes on. God, is he flirting with you, or trying to humiliate you? You're not sure which is worse. Your whole body feels hot, and your brain simply refuses to work correctly. "I'd just love to hear more about you."
"So, like... Coffee?" You offer. Your hand is starting to tingle from how tightly you're gripping your phone. Is this really happening? You just asked The Homelander for a coffee date.
"Not really a coffee kind of guy," Homelander replies. "How about dinner? My apartment in Vought Tower, tomorrow night. You like steak?"
"Oh, okay, I— yes, I do," you fumble slightly, clearing your throat. "That'd be nice," you say, cleaning up your tone, attempting to gain any semblance of composure in this conversation.
"Perrrrrfect," he rumbles. The near growl of his voice right in your ear makes you feel a touch faint. Jesus Christ. He must know exactly what he's doing. "It's a date."
"It's a date," you echo, as if to confirm for yourself that's really true. "Okay, I will... see you soon."
"You have a good night. Be seein' you."
The line disconnects, and you're left in the too-loud silence of your apartment, staring at your phone in disbelief
Holy shit.
