GW2 30 Day Challenge

6. Favourite Elite spec?

(I couldn't find any fancy pics of my own to use, so instead have a couple angles of mirage cloak glitching out and turning the Mirage into an eternal swirling and glowing vortex. These are old screenshots before the Aurene mounts were released as well since I use those for my main) It's... Mirage!! (surprising to absolutely no one who knows me). I just LOVE being invulnerable and hard to hit, plus all the mobility that comes with the spec and the SUPER fast gameplay (I love very fast inputs and reactions, which makes playing slower classes difficult for me bc I'm impatient and spam click abilities lkdjflsf). Being able to jaunt/blink everywhere, shadowstep, clone+phantasm distractions, and evasion hax dodging (mirage cloak my beloved) made dodging part of my rotation, making me really dumb with a lot of other classes bc I instinctively want to dodge all the time due to muscle memory. Also fun fact: Mirage/Mesmer was the first spec that I used a 80-boost on, and I was able to learn it just fine! (and even became my favourite!) so boosting a class to learn it is totally okay in my opinion!! Just do cozy open world map comp to ease your way into it and it'll be cherry!

Granted I also don't exactly play the class as intended. While I have 3 builds for her (guess I should say my main, Vespaura), I tend to just use her power build (since Mirage is moreso meant for Condi and boons or w/e, which I have builds for and also never use lol). I think this build I like to use was originally made for the Labyrinth (tagging everything with GS), but I tweaked it a bit with other preferences since it has pretty good survivability and is an absolute monster when I attack huge groups of mobs (Greatsword lasers are the best invention and it NEVER gets old. Also the amount of laser ricochet gets me pretty high damage and looks absolutely bonkers on my side (what a lightshow!), plus my lasers are HOMING lasers, which means they will automatically hit any enemies in the vicinity around me and helps out if I don't notice them from a different angle, allowing me to re-orient myself. I also don't have to worry too too much about aim bc of this too! (oh yeah, and especially with relics being a thing now. Mabon relic has been pretty neat so far cuz I can take advantage of that boost being used to hit all those targets!). Though power GS does fall a bit against single targets, but that's fine! (I sort of have the daggers for that at least!). I also play with a trackpad, which is a funny thing to tell ppl, especially when playing a class like Mirage, lol. I just hate using a mouse and only have it for certain games that force me to use it. I just don't want carpel tunnel and my wrist is more relaxed this way (never had problems! so far at least). I just love playing at ranged with non-ranged weapons (Greatswords, daggers. Mine actually has all 3 types of blades (very lesbian of her) bc she has a sword as well. I literally gave her both of Caithe's weapons askjflfj. I'm so glad that I can give my Mirage daggers now!! much more fun than another sword/axe!). It's just so much fun, and I CAN'T WAIT to see what rifle is gonna be like!! I just love ranged classes bc stacking ALWAYS gets me killed constantly... so yeah I'm the annoying person who doesn't like stacking bc I'd rather not be dead!!!!! (I'm sorry I just HATE stacking. I can't see SHIT and it's just so much visual noise for me!! let me breathe!!) and plus I revive everyone in fights thanks to invulnerabilities allowing me to rez through attacks. You're welcome!!! (I rez so many people during metas and other fights) I also just love Mesmer in a class in general bc it's unique in comparison to a lot of other fantasy classes, and I just adore the concept and the aesthetics (flamboyant fancy dramatic magic user? HELL YEAH. Literally the gayest magic user ever and I'm eating it up). I also love the ability to make clones and all the pretty butterflies, and phantasms and all that! I know a lot of ppl don't like clones/phantasms, but they save my ass every time and I appreciate them very much.

Rules & About

Obviously I can't stop you from interacting if you aren't open enough about your views to get blocked, but know that bigotry of any kind is not welcome here. I can and will use the block button very liberally in that regard.

I only write with people who are 18 or older.

That being said, romance and smut are NEVER a requirement. I'm just as happy roleplaying familial, platonic or hostile relationships. For example, just because one of my characters might have a romantic dynamic with a canon character in one thread with one user, doesn't mean I aim for or even want that every single time. Please tell me about your expectations and boundaries!

I am primarily a mobile user, so I don't have access to tumblr's desktop functions, including cutting posts. For this reason, if you want to do a longer rp, I highly prefer using discord. Feel free to dm me for it!

If we had a thread going on/were plotting, and I stop responding randomly, you are 100% allowed to spam me. Chances are that my ADHD just got the better of me and I either forgot or thought I already replied. Sorry in advance!

English is not my native language, so if I sound a bit stilted or my grammar is off, that's why. If you ever need me to clarify something, let me know. I promise I won't be mad.

While I've been roleplaying for a few years (around seven, I think?) and have found rp partners on tumblr before, that was always done via rp finders. I've never actually had a dedicated rp blog before, so please bear with me while I figure this all out. lol

My limits with regards to story beats are child abuse, especially CSA, self-harm (especially cutting), religion-based queerphobia, and eating disorders. While I don't mind these themes coming up as, for example, parts of a character's backstory, I would prefer not to have them as a focal point within the roleplay.

With regards to kinks, my hard limits are piss, scat, anything else involving excrements or bodily fluids, feet, raceplay, diapers, and mutilation. For any other kinks that might be a bit "out there" for lack of a better word, feel free to straight up ask if I'm comfortable roleplaying them. I can promise that even if I'm not into them, I won't judge you. I'd be a hypocrite if I did.

"cw: X" is the format I use to tag any potentially triggering content. If you need me to tag anything specifically, or I forgot to tag a post, please let me know!!

I'm semi-lit to advanced lit and tend to match my partner's length. That being said, if you're the sort of person who prefers short replies, that's cool too, I don't mind at all. Don't feel pressured to write more than you are able to.

Most of my OCs are fandomless. The ones that aren't will be clearly marked as such. If you want to do a non-fandom roleplay with a fandom OC of mine, let me know and we'll work something out!

I'm generally very flexible when it comes to character lore, and I love AUs, so if you want me to change a few things about my characters to make our verses fit together better, I'm open to that.

Don't expect any fancy formatting. I'm screen blind and graphic design is the bane of my existence.

I was in the SB when this happened, to explain a bit Khione was sharing her idea about a future possible side gig or job, kind of a long story, but everyone knows that the SB has limited writing space and it gets cut off. She only was sharing BECAUSE we (at least 5 users who were fully engaged in the conversation) were expressing interest, after she showed us some of her work which we wanted to learn more about.

Anakin comes and says: "easy on the amount of msgs pls getting a little spammy"

-which would be fine to the normal eye or someone who just logged on, as it was just sb and another mod who was engaged in this chat as well. She didn't seem to have an issue with it, and the sb was still carrying on. I think it was unnecessary for Anakin to even have said anything. Anakin herself has spammed the sb with her band of friends and no one says anything. Why is it okay for her to do it but when Khione is telling an actual story that MULTIPLE people asked her to get more into it's an issue?

Khione responds: "yeah, i realized, mb (assuming this means my bad as in sorry) glad you're here actually - any idea when you'll have the remaining 1.6 bil, or youre paying in increments? kinda low on tu rn x"

- Khione inquiring about her TU over whatever deal agreed on is being passive aggressive? By the way, I submitted the convo. I'm just writing it in case somehow it doesn't go through, maybe a fault on my end but I'm almost sure I did all the right things. Khione literally said she noticed she was being a bit spammy, said "my bad" which translates directly to apologising. Where is the passive aggression here? I had my eyes corrected I know its not me, and I don't see the passive. aggression.

Khione: I don't see how me asking you a valid question is considered passive aggressive. There is no inflection in writing for the most part, I'm sorry you took it that way though. (KHIONE STOP APOLOGISING YOU SAID NOTHING WRONG!!!) I could've, but I'm mobile and in the sb, so it was a matter of convenience for me. Totally fair answer, Khione.

Anakin: no problem

- So myself and a few other players who discussed this amongst one another. Bit confused here, i was always under the impression the two were very, very close friends. Khione even gifted Anakin's boyfriend an amber wyrae a few days ago citing "you're my friends bf" so whats up with this? I am aware theres alot circling around Khione right now but this treatment and how a "moderator" handled this was out of line. Please do better.

There is always someone out there to replace you never forget that! Be kind, it's free.. also If Dan and Khione were as close as they clearly were and she still got banned/fired, I hope you really don't believe that it can't happen to you. I've read blogs of their friendship and the times I've spoken to Khione she speaks of him like a dear friend. Regarding Dan, we know he cheats and basically runs Res. If she did something wrong, he could've covered it I'm sure he has the means to, but he banned her I believe, or one of the admins. My theory is they just stopped liking her which is pretty sad. If thats the case whats even sadder is she still won't tell us anything, and I'm sure she knows enough to take ALL the corrupt users down. Sigh, no one wins and she gets the shortest straw. Khione if you do read this even though you said your post defending Dan's name (which I'm now raising eyebrows at because maybe he is the cause of this) would be the last one, I really wish you would just air everyone's business out, call me one for drama, or not, this just seems so sudden, and a bit.. strange? I know I'm not the only one thinking this.

Oh, and although this doesn't matter, I'd like to say I am on no side. Khione and I speak respectfully to each other, Anakin has never wronged me. However in this scenario Anakin: 0 Khione:1

Virgil: A Love Language Analysis

So this has been quite a long time coming. My sincere apologies for the wait. Real life and other writing caused me to postpone working on this analysis longer than I had originally wanted to. Before I begin, though, a quick shout-out to the awesome @logan-exe for his help in talking this analysis out a bit.

If you’re just now joining us, you can read more about love languages here but basically, there are five ways that people generally either express or understand love the best: words of affirmation, acts of service, gift giving, quality time, and physical touch. You can read my analysis and interpretation of Logan and Roman in the links at the top of this post. But now, we come to the third Side I’d like to talk about: Virgil.

Specifically, this analysis will be looking at why I believe Virgil’s predominant Love Language to be Quality Time. Turns out, I have quite a lot to say about it. Let us begin.

Admittedly, Virgil spending “quality time” with the other Sides is hard to differentiate between other time spent with the Sides. To explain this complication, I want to look at the first video he appears in: “Taking on ANXIETY with Lilly Singh!!”.

In the beginning of this video, Thomas explains that he’s feeling “relaxed” only for Virgil, as the embodiment of anxiety, to show up very suddenly.

V: Hey.

T: What the heck?!

V: [sarcastically] Oh, I’m sorry. Was I not wanted at this exact second?

At his very first appearance, it already becomes unclear the exact motive Virgil has for appearing. Thomas feels anxious, so Virgil shows up; reciprocally, Virgil showing up causes Thomas to feel anxious. Through the early Sides episodes, this complicated dynamic continues to appear and makes it challenging to differentiate whether Virgil has much control over whether--and when--he may appear in a video. I personally lean towards believing that, at least in the case of this first video, Virgil is more or less summoned by Thomas already feeling anxious given this brief exchange:

T: I was even saying how relaxed I was feeling!

V: Ah, but that’s when you start wondering why you do feel all relaxed. You don’t usually feel this way, so what are you doing different? What are you doing wrong? What are you forgetting to do?

Since it is implied that Thomas feeling anxious is why Virgil appeared, his appearance in this first video may not exactly count as “quality time” because it is not even “voluntary time”, so to speak. But his appearance--and the reaction to his presence--helps frame this interpretation of Virgil’s struggle with speaking his love language that eventually led to the events of Accepting Anxiety (which I will talk more about in a bit)

A couple lines in particular speak to the rejection of his presence felt strongly by Thomas (and Roman):

Thomas: But sometimes it just shows up [...] out of no where and ruins whatever peace I had! Like, I’m kinda getting fed up with it. There has got to be some way out of it!

[...]

Roman: Okay, I can’t stand that guy.

Thomas: Tell me about it.

This is important in understanding Virgil’s Love Language as quality time because it articulates how his presence around others had been seen as a negative thing. I will come back to this dynamic when I address the Accepting Anxiety arc.

The next video I want to look at in regards to Virgil and Quality Time is “The Dark Side of Disney!” video. The biggest reason why I feel this video is particularly noteworthy in this discussion is because of the following dialogue exchange:

Virgil: Did someone say ‘atrocious’?

Roman: Are you kidding me? We have expelled you from the last two videos. Do you know how rude it is to interrupt a vlog?

Thomas: Well, um, okay. Well, Anxiety, I gotta admit: I don’t know why you are here.

Virgil: Simple. I, too, am a Disney fan.

The fact that Thomas expresses that he does not know why Virgil is there indicates that his presence is not related, in this case, to a feeling Thomas is experiencing. Therefore, Virgil is there entirely of his own accord. It would only be fair to note that the reason Virgil claims to appear for this video is more in relation to subject matter than persons involved, Virgil is nevertheless choosing to spend time with Thomas and another Side out of that shared interest. For that reason, I believe that this video is indicative of Virgil’s love language being quality time even if he may not yet feel an affection for Roman. A quick note that I do believe that Virgil feels a kind of love for Thomas that is shared among the Sides, and therefore “The Dark Side of Disney!” could very well be taken as Virgil attempting to speak the quality time love language with Thomas specifically in such a way that does not diminish his “dark persona”.

The next video I want to look at in analyzing Virgil’s Love Language is, of course, “Alone on VALENTINE’S DAY!”. Specifically, Virgil’s “answer” for Thomas finding a relationship is indicative of quality time being a principle love language for Virgil:

V: Ugh, this whole thing is pointless!

Thomas: Yes, we all know your point of view.

V: All I’m saying is this is just a waste of time. Psyching yourself out over cheap tactics that have never been useful to you before. I mean seriously, Thomas. In any past relationship you’ve ever been in, haven’t they always developed when you least expected them to?

T: Huh. You actually have a point.

L: You were never actively searching for someone.

P: You met someone, got to know them casually, and the feeling started there.

R: The romance came about naturally.

V: I wasn’t trying to help.

Virgil’s distaste for the romantic gestures advocated for by the other Sides, and Patton’s acknowledgement of getting to “know them casually” indicates Virgil advocating for quality time as a love language Thomas may want to think about speaking. Spending time with a person he may care about as a means of developing the relationship further. As with Logan and Roman, I do not want this analysis to be given too much particularity to romantic love, but thought this moment was worth mentioning briefly seeing as it points, in some ways, to quality time as a love language for Virgil.

Very quickly, I want to take a look at a brief, passing moment in “My Personality Q&A” that speaks to the continuing development of Virgil coming to believe, through reactions to his presence, that his presence is not desired at all:

T: Let’s just move on to the next question.

R: I’m ready.

T: This one is for Anxiety.

R: What?

V: [appearing] What?

When asked a question by one of Thomas’s followers, Virgil seems just as surprised as Roman that his presence is being actually sought out now. Even When Thomas explains “there’s a question for you”, Virgil’s response is a confused “me?”. This brief moment helps to illustrate the continuing development of Virgil feeling limited in his ability to speak his love language and be heard because his presence has become understood by him to be an undesirable thing based on previous reaction to his presence (a reaction that is perpetuated by Roman’s impatient response of “just answer it so we can move on”).

It might also be noted that Virgil getting to answer other questions and begin to feel appreciated is why he is the last Side who wants to leave. He is feeling loved (in a way) and therefore feels he can more fully speak his own love language (until exiting a moment later to avoid answering an uncomfortable question).

The next video I want to take a look at is at the end of “My NEGATIVE Thinking”.

Virgil: Save your insults. I’m just gonna deck out.

Logan: Actually, um, I was going to tell you that was a good debate today.

V: What? Wha--what do you mean?

L: I mean you did a good job.

V: How? I was barely trying. I hissed at you.

L: Yes, I must admit that is a fairly uncommon debate tactic. But despite you clearly not enjoying taking part, you still participated, you offered your points, and you even reasoned in your own way. And all of that is commendable. [...]

V: I gotta say, I don’t really know how to react to you complimenting me. Kinda thought you didn’t like me. Especially after last time when you called me a defeatist.

L: Well, you are wrong about a lot of things. But I don’t necessarily mind your company. The other two can bring in a whole lot of sunshine, and that can be unbearable. And I can’t imagine having a debate with either one of them.

V: I-I guess I just kind of assumed that--

L: You jumped to a conclusion. [...]

V: Touche. Thanks.

Once again, Virgil expresses surprise and doubt when his presence isn’t completely rejected or detested. In fact, the moment the debate is over and Logan has helped assuage the feeling of anxiety in Thomas that is keeping Virgil there, he claims he is going to “deck out”: he is not going to spend quality time because he does not think Logan cares for him due to previous encounters. When Logan calmly explains that “I don’t necessarily mind your company” and expresses that he even prefers Virgil as a debate partner, Virgil is likely hearing a certain permission being granted to him from Logan to speak his love language of quality time with the Logical Side. This isn’t to say that his moment is a deep reconciliation of the two, but the brief moment and Virgil’s reaction to it helps illustrate Virgil’s preference for quality time as a love language and his complicated relationship in speaking it with the other Sides.

Now, I can’t talk about Virgil’s love language being quality time and not discuss the “Accepting Anxiety” arc. Accepting Anxiety Parts 1 and 2 covers the moment that Virgil is granted the freedom to more freely speak his love language without the rejection he’d been conditioned to associate with doing so.

When Virgil elects to “duck out” (quack), he is deciding to no longer express love to the other Sides because he feels that such love is not being reciprocated. This causation becomes clear when, in Accepting Anxiety Part 2, Virgil says:

V: I removed myself from the equation. I quit. Decided it wasn’t worth it anymore.

T: Why would you do that?

V: Well, it didn’t seem like I was wanted. You all made that pretty clear, anytime I showed up.

Despite the complication between Virgil’s limited ability to show up or not show up given how Thomas is feeling (a trait that seems relatively unique to Virgil given his function), there were clear moments in which Virgil appeared because he desired to be a part of the group in some way--to spend quality time with them. The fact that Virgil was often (not exclusively, but often) met with rejection or disdain made it increasingly harder for Virgil to speak his love language and feel it spoken in return.

So Virgil gave up trying, and even began to believe that such rejection of his love language was reasonable given his function:

V: Look, I can’t say it isn’t nice to hear you all groveling. But... I actually think you were right to not want me around. I’ve always aimed to protect you, but lately... it feels like I’ve been keeping you from doing anything. [...] Putting on a dark persona is the best way to get anyone’s guard up. But all this reflecting and working on your issues with us has gotten me to think that... I overdo it.

The Sides intervene shortly thereafter (starting with Logan) in expressing and explaining the ways that Virgil’s presence contributes to Thomas, each Side’s contribution focusing on the ways Virgil’s presence and interaction assists with their own function.

L: You’re what made Thomas double and triple check things he needed to study before taking tests and--

P: Also you’re that feeling of tingling-ness after achieving something he didn’t think was possible [...]

T: Anxiety, in small doses, you’re what pressures me to get out of bed. To get moving, and doing stuff. I’m lucky to have you the way that I do [...]

R: Anxiety, you’re... what pushes Thomas to rehearse and rehearse before performances. You are that nervousness he feels right before going on stage, but just as he does so... you ease up. And you let his excitement and passion for performance take over. I think that’s as good a sign as any that you’re willing to work as a team. And that you make us better.

With Virgil’s presence and interaction with the other Sides and Thomas being given so much affirmation, Virgil feels an acceptance and freedom to speak his love language by the end of Accepting Anxiety Part 2. As a result, subsequent videos show Virgil spending quality time with the Sides and Thomas more freely and openly.

We see evidence of this the very next video, even. “Fitting In (Hogwarts Houses!” demonstrates in some ways how Virgil feels more at ease in showing his love for the Sides and Thomas by spending quality time with them. Though Virgil is summoned by Thomas (or at least has his presence requested) to offer his opinion of the purple hair, Virgil remains for the subsequent and unrelated debate on who ought to be in which Hogwarts House.

Even though the focus of the video is about sorting Virgil, his reaction to being the center of attention is largely one of disdain:

V: So what’s the plan here?

T: We’re gonna sort you!

V: Sort me?

However, despite expressing distaste about the premise of the exercise, Virgil remains for the video--presumably because he wishes to spend quality time with the other four now that his presence is no longer being rejected or seen as undesirable. In fact, Virgil demonstrates an ease with that particular understanding at the end of the video when he elects to not choose a Hogwarts House:

V: I don’t need to belong to a particular Hogwarts House to know I belong with you guys.

In “The Sanders Sides 12 DAYS OF CHRISTMAS!” video--the next one I’d like to look at with regards to the concept of Virgil and quality time--we see Virgil even going outside his comfort zone to spend quality time with the Sides.

If you’ll recall, back in the Sanders Sides Q&A video, when asked to choose a favorite Disney movie and sing something from it, Virgil chose Black Cauldron with the implied reason that he chose it to avoid having to sing. Much like Logan, Virgil generally elects not to sing of his own accord. (I recognize that he sings in “A New Year of Lying to Myself”, but so does Logan. I digress on that video.)

However, in the Christmas video, Virgil agrees to go sing with the Sides. Although Virgil is reluctant to sing the random line about shrimp because he “[doesn’t] really get it”, he is still present in the moment and does not leave when he otherwise could. Virgil wants to spend quality time with the Sides. Even when he asks at the beginning of the video if he can “go back to [his] room now”, there doesn’t appear to be any reason why Virgil wouldn’t be able to leave of his own accord. Instead, Virgil elects to stay and spend quality time with the Sides.

Finally, I’d like to talk about “Why Do We Get Out of Bed in the Morning?”. Specifically, the end-card.

V: Whatcha up to over there, Patton?

Virgil has no reason other than personal investment to be spending time with Patton seemingly “outside of a video” so to speak. Virgil is acting independently in this moment, could be in any number of places, and has specifically chosen to spend this time with Patton. Virgil is calm, perhaps even peaceful, in this end-card moment. Perhaps this is because he is finally able to feel completely at ease in speaking and feeling heard in his love language of quality time.

Confession- I will NEVER understand why fans of things are SO DEFENSIVE about authors/actors/artists/etc of said thing seeing their fan content. This is basically how the scenario appears, to me at least:

Person A: "I like this thing you made, Person B!"

Person B: "Aw gee, thanks!"

The next day...

Person B: "Ayo Person A, I saw you wrote an in-depth analysis of the thing I made an also a lot of funny jokes about it and proceeded to post about it on an openly public social media website (that I, as one member of the general public, have access to) and I just wanna talk about that-"

Person A: "WWHAT. NO. DNI. DO NOT INTERACT. Did I SAY you could talk about my blog like that?1? This is Mine. i DON'T want people to see it >:( you have violated my boundaries (that are hidden away in a caard that requires far too many clicks to get through for every person interacted with on the internet) and invaded my privacy that is just simply not okay. Stay away from tumblr!! how did you even FIND it???"

Person B: "Oh, uh.. you tagged it... using the system to help people find stuff about the topic... and I searched that tag?"

Like... why is it assumed that as soon as someone creates something and makes it public that suddenly means that it belongs to the internet and the fandom and that no one is allowed to see or talk about it elsewhere??

Customized Tags- instead of tagging "reading list", tag "#Person A's Reading List lolzies" or even just "#PerA RL" because ain't nobody searching that shit but you. Because if you tag "#Reading List", anyone who searches tumblr for "reading list" could potentially see your stuff. (added bonus that if your followers want to blacklist that tag because they don't care for it, it just tell them/post that you use that as your tag for the thing! instead of you not posting it, or them unfollowing you, it's an easy work-around that benefits both parties!)

PRIVATE YOUR BLOG- seriously, you don't have to be seen by ANYONE on this website if you don't want to, or only certain friends! I have linked a tutorial, but if you're afraid of links or w/e simply GOOGLE IT

Post privately- again, you can make any post private! See here (sorry mobile users idk how to do it but I'M CERTAIN THERE'S A WAY)

Quit getting mad at creators for seeing/sharing the things you publicly post related to their content. It's absolutely okay to not want people to see the things you post, if you are young then especially so! But you have to curate your own online experience because the world will not do it for you, and that includes the content you put online.

ALSO!! This ties into the fact that if you're posting immoral things that you don't want the creators to see because it breaks their boundaries or something, here's a newsflash- YOU CAN'T VIOLATE BOUNDARIES OR LAWS OR COMMON COURTESY JUST BECAUSE YOU WRONGFULLY ASSUME NO ONE WILL SEE THE THINGS YOU POST (or that specifically affected people won't). YOU JUST SHOULDN'T DO THAT, ACTUALLY! It's impossible to know who will or won't see what you post on the internet- on a blog, on twitter, even in super speedy instant chat messages full of 1000s of people spamming.

How does someone know they are shadownbanned and how to stop getting shadowbanned?

Hello hello! Sorry for not replying yesterday, I was busy!

So like... I don't know all the ways for this to happen. I have heard of people being excluded from searches because of explicit usernames, and I believe people's tags or posts can suddenly disappear from general tag searches and personal blog searches too (I think Met struggled with the last one). Personally, I am quite convinced that being shadowbanned really is what happens when your blog/tag/post is marked as spam without being outright banned.

How I know I've been "shadowbanned" is as follows:

On mobile, my messaging tab disappears on the shadow banned blog. On desktop, any message tabs I had open would start displaying an error screen.

People who have notifications on for my blog stop receiving my post notifications.

If I @ someone, they don't receive the notification.

If I answer someone's ask, they don't receive the notification.

I am excluded from notifications in general: my reblogs don't appear in the activity tab of OP or on the list of notes corresponding to any post.

My blog stops appearing in username searches.

My posts stop showing up in tags, both posts that were already in them and posts that I make during the time period.

Which are all things I think coincide with a blog being marked as spam? But, again, not quite sure. I just know that these are all terribly inconvenient. This is a sideblog, but I imagine if your main was also experiencing these things, likes and comments would also stop showing up.

Something to note here is that, both times when this happened, other users could sometimes still message me. Which is super weird and strange, but also means I had to post multiple times hey, still can't message just in case.

How I have solved the issue both times was simply messaging support about the issue. I've heard that some people have to fill multiple reports, but this is not something I've had to do. I have had to wait a couple days for a response, however. My advice is to fill a report as quickly as possible (I wait 24 hours just in case it's a bug because you never know in this site), and be as detailed as possible about the situation. Likewise, use the attached file offer. Both times I included a screenshot of my messaging feed displaying errors.

well with that i just beat every single battle in pokemon platinum using only the raw power of the hog (using no items in battle)

i’m the first person to do so in platinum (there’s probably quite a lot of “one pokemon only” runs left to say that for...), and here’s someone doing the same challenge in emerald

here’s a clip of cynthia’s final pokemon going down!

ok keep reading cut inserted. sorry if you’re still here against your will

swinub is ground/ice, making it offensively very powerful and defensively.. kinda crap. weak to all the starter types, fighting and steel. not good. it’s sort of a glass cannon, except not that strong since it’s a first-level evo pokemon. it’s kind of more like a glass.... spoon

let me go through a quick list of every tool i had at my disposal for this whole run!

Stats: good attack and speed, ok defense and hp, naff sp atk and sp def. Oblivious ability, which is eh

Moves: ice shard, earthquake, amnesia and blizzard from levelup, and rock tomb, rock slide and double team from tms

Items: never-melt ice, hard stone, shell bell, metronome (boosts power of moves by 10% every turn they’re used consecutively, up to a max of 100%)

i made a list in advance of every gym and where i thought the troubles would be. my predictions were mostly pretty on:

Rock was nasty, but pretty straightforward - spam mud slap until you get lucky and cranidos fails to headbutt you to death

Grass was surprisingly hard! powder snow wasn’t enough, and i’ve already forgotten but i think this is when i picked up ice shard. my notepad for the run states “ice shard and earthquake are the bread and butter of chads” and it’s pretty much all you need to know for 99% of the run

Ghost... oh my god. the ghost type gym leader Fantina has a full team of levitate users, meaning earthquake was useless. swinub picks up earthquake pretty quick at level 37, meaning you can plough through most pokemon from this point on without much worry. ghost types are usually physically frail, but her mismagius took a while to be able to take down. this sucked.

Fighting was a bit blink and you miss it. nothing resists earthquake in here

Water. Oh. My. God. CRASHER WAKE. this bastard opens with a gyarados with intimidate and waterfall. take a look through everything at my disposal up there again. all i had to work with was rock tomb (power 50, accuracy 80) and earthquake for the rest of his team, and couldn’t raise my defense or lower his attack at all to mitigate the power of waterfall. if you were curious how bad intimidate is to be hit by... take a look at this chart

in other words, lowering my attack by one stage means i deal 2/3 damage to everything with physical moves. i was now stuck using rock tomb at 2/3 damage, making it effectively a power 33.3 move with an accuracy of 80%. i had to grind to almost level 70 before getting the fifth gym, and even then it also took a critical hit and two days of searching in the sinnoh underground for a hard stone. this was brutal

Steel was fine. weirdly, the worst thing in here was a trainer. there’s an ace trainer towards the end of this gym with three bronzor. bronzor is the single worst pokemon to face in this run. my only attacking moves i can access are ground, ice, rock or normal. bronzor is a steel type, and every single trainer-owned one has levitate (why do none of them have heatproof). this means my moves are all ineffective or useless. on top of that, bronzor uses gyro ball. gyro ball powers up the slower you are compared to your opponent. swinub is high level, weak to steel and surprisingly fast, making this... the worst move imaginable to go against.

so, i did what any self respecting trainer would do. i went to eterna forest and fought budew until they used stun spore on me (the only way to get swinub paralysed), meaning gyro ball hit for minimal damage since i was now slowed down. then i just prayed confuse ray and iron defense didn’t hurt me too much and powered through. that was one of the strangest fights i’ve ever had in pokemon.

Ice went by pretty quick - the only issue i ran into was her Abomasnow running wood hammer, which pretty much oneshot swinub. this took a minimal amount more grinding, after which the gym went down fairly quick

Electric... uh... none of the pokemon in this gym levitate. none of them are flying type. swinub has STAB earthquake. i’m not going to say anything more

the other big obstacles in the run came from team galactic. Mars caused us trouble at every turn - in her first fight she terrifies you with a Purugly at the valley windworks (this fucks up everyone’s teams, right? not just me?) which beat the crap out of us with her zubat using toxic then purugly stalling with fake out. at this point i was still relying on mud slap to let me avoid a lot of moves, but purugly runs night slash. i had to get lucky and let powder snow freeze the bastard before i could win.

in all of Mars’ other fights, she comes prepared with a nasty Bronzor. in solo battles this was horrible, but in her final appearance Barry fights with you, and took care of it fairly quick

cyrus was a bit of a pain, and giratina went down in two ice shards. poor thing

the elite four went down fairly quick thanks to the raw power of the level one hundred hog! only the psychic trainer gave me any trouble, thanks to the bronzong. my elite four strategy looked like this

bug, ground and fire type members: ice shard, earthquake, rock slide and amnesia. run a shell bell for hp restoration or metronome for bonus damage on spammed moves and just throw a supereffective move at everything

psychic type member and cynthia: swap rock slide for double team and equip the metronome. open each battle by maxing sp def and evasiveness. steadily build ice shard’s power until it takes out every pokemon. everything falls to the hog’s unbridled glacial strength

garchomp was last, and went down in one ice shard.

i have no idea what to do now! maybe move to the resort island and retire with HogChamp at my side

there might be a proper video incoming where i break this all down properly... more on that later

this was awesome to do and i couldn’t have managed it without everyone coming to hang on twitch. you guys rule

hi, A/3 volunteer back again! i hope i can answer your questions properly, but i’m on mobile so sorry if i get a bit confused. it’s also going to be quite long but i hope you can figure out which questions i’m replying to. let me know if you need any more clarification!

1 - as tag wranglers, we don’t moderate content via deletion, etc - we just move fics into the correct tags, and it’s typically on a fandom basis (for example, i might solely wrangle for something like the supernatural fandom only). i’ve never come across ‘problematic’ tags since most of the time, it’s just sorting tags into like... more general tags? so example - someone tags a fic with ‘kinda fluffy kinda angsty’. we would then kind of make it so that tag redirects to ‘fluff with angst’, even though it still appears as the original tag on the fic. does that make sense? i’m also a little unsure of the other questions you had here - which is totally my fault, i’m in the middle of writing an essay for uni that needs to be in in like... 12 hours and my brain is frazzled - but if you were asking about a situation where if i was concerned that a single user had a collection of fics that were all entirely based upon something illegal and reported their entire account to mods, would it be deleted - i’m not sure. tag wranglers are kind of like low-level moderators, and we’re not what would typically be thought of as moderators since we simply reorganise content versus actually removing it. since the reporting process is typically through the site itself and is handled by an entirely separate team, i cant speak for how they think or what their process is.

2 - it’s up to our judgement as to if we want to report it, but again, the tags we wrangle are VERY general. tags like ‘dead dove don’t eat’ and stuff that are typically full of polarising content arent something i’ve come across, because i think they make up a minority of most fandoms when put against tags like ‘fluff’ and ‘angst’ and even stuff like ‘chocolate’, lmao. i’m not certain what happens when a report is processed and the fic is found to be removable - what i do know though is that with fics that are seen as breaking specific laws (i.e depictions of CSA, slander, etc) mods are often a lot more hard-handed for several reasons (reputation both within the community and in terms of the fact they could very much get in legal trouble). again though, i’m a low-level moderator and don’t see that side of the process. however, if i report something and it’s not taken down, i’m not implicated in any way. it’s been a while since i’ve been on the site and reported anything so i’m not entirely certain if reporting is 100% anonymous or if you have to supply details like email, but i think if you DO supply things, it’s to ensure you aren’t mass-reporting someone (bc i think that counts as targeted harassment). email is also possible to fake, so i think you can make the process anonymous if you want to. as for how often i personally report fic - not often. i’m a CSA victim (which is why this topic is touchy for me tbh), and i don’t like to go through the process because i find it arduous - you have to give an explanation as to why you’re reporting the fic, and i find it triggering at times. i’ve also never been in a position where i have found a fic while actively volunteering that i feel has been necessary to report, so i can’t speak for that either. all of that being said - i’ve heard of and seen on one occasion fics and entire accounts be deleted for harassment/slander - in particular, i’ve heard multiple times that accounts dedicated to purposely like... making fun of? or like technically harassing? kpop boy group members have been taken down because even though their content is ‘technically’ fanfiction, it’s obviously just there to incite hatred against a specific person. so, imo, if mods are quick on taking down accounts obviously run by 14 year olds in fandom drama writing numerous fics where boyband member A calls boyband member B stupid and tells him nobody likes him, i think they’re very likely just as serious about taking down more serious content. that’s just my opinion and my personal experience though, and it’s distinct from my volunteering.

overall, on the whole topic of CSA on the website - it’s really tough even just as a basic content moderator. there’s lots of reasons as to why people post it, and though people are very obviously welcome and encouraged to think critically about everything, it’s a fact that the topic is really really difficult to manoeuvre (culture, who is posting it, when was it posted, why it’s being posted aka vent fics, etc). as i said, i’m a CSA victim myself, so i understand the frustration, but it’s too nuanced and difficult a topic to be able to say ‘ban it all’. however, i do think the site is doing their best to crack down on stuff that is very obviously on there for one specific reason, and i also think generally, they’re changing things so people are able and sometimes encouraged to anonymise themselves by not giving any profile info and to protect themselves by turning off comments completely, etc. i find that you can make it really easy to curate your posting experience so that essentially, you can post but nobody can really interact.

3 - i like tag wrangling! i got into it because i saw a position on the front page of the site and decided to go for it. it wasn’t very taxing to get into and you don’t have to put much work in - a couple of hours a week is enough, and they’re understanding about work/uni/etc. it’s easy to meet other people through volunteering, and they ensure everyone is over 18. i don’t read through fic myself - just through tags, and then i sort them into their proper places. if something is tagged wrong, we don’t get in touch with the author, we just do our best to reorganise the tag so it redirects into the correct place - again, for instance, if someone writes a fantasy AU that they tag with ‘high fantasy prince/princess AU’ and that tag doesn’t exist, we would sort it into the main tag for a royalty AU or something like that. re: monetisation of fics: technically, monetised content is not allowed on A/3 - if someone is advertising their patreon or kofi in their authors notes or profile, you’re supposed to report it just as a general user. i think it’s because it puts the site at risk of being sued or something? but as a low level mod, i don’t HAVE to report these things unless i see them while i’m tag wrangling (aka i see a tag like ‘my patreon is XYZ!!!!! send me money!!!!!!’) and i personally don’t report monetised fics because ... i don’t find it a prominent issue, lmao. people are also learning to avoid it by being like this is my tumblr or this is my twitter, and when you click on their social media they link their patreon or whatever There instead. also, idk who decided the colour scheme! i think it was just like a generally agreed upon thing with the site designers. i also think there’s been convo for a few years about dark modes and stuff on the site, but i’m pretty sure the site has to get a few more things out of the way before they’ll prioritise that (i know they’re trying to work on a better moderating system for things like spam and harassment atm bc the spam filter absolutely sucks dick lol). i’ll totally drop a mention like WOW, wouldnt it be AMAZING if we could have this SPECIFIC COLOUR SCHEME, tho <3

An Innocent Sin & the good gay flashback ft. my descent into madness

I wasn’t sure if I should post this but I mostly want it archived so here we go. This is from like,, September?

So. “An Innocent Sin” is a dumpster fire unlike anything I’ve ever seen. I don’t remember why I decided to read it. maybe I was crazy. Either way... I read it. It soon started to touch upon (very very outlandish) sexual abuse which I thought was interesting. (the angst, not so much some of the wack circumstances surrounding it)

ANYWAY. at some point... we have a flashback. And not just that. It has a gay character.

And it turns rly gay. which mind you, is still in a het smut manwha (that has a “gay” side couple, but still!)

First and foremost I saw you write cute prompts with cute guys and I thought the request system was pretty neat. And correct me if I’m wrong because it wasn’t explicitly stated in the order but you don’t seem to mind making a fic Gender neutral or even doing a fic for male!characterxmale!reader which is something I really appreciate.

Reasons to start and stay:

I can’t for the life of my remember where I first saw Haikyuu I know I heard of it before watching it. It was probably as simple as earnest sport boys are hot so watch this anime. Still reeling on a single reason I stayed since so many of the guys are just so pretty or hot or both.

Why them:

Full disclosure I had no one in mind when I started writing this submission so most of my brain power is thinking of my favorite character right now. There is so many to choose from but upon further consideration it is Bokuto koutarou (as I typed his last name his first came up in the suggestion bar lol) he is so energetic and screenshots from the manga make him BEEFY he has my heart in his hands. I’m trying really hard to put to words what else is great about my sweet owl boyfriend something about his hair probably.

Letter to you:

You run a very cute blog and I respect your positive attitude even when you’re a user of this hell site. Hopefully it’s not presumptuous that you male x male reader inserts although it would be a lie if I said I don’t care if you do. I hate to seem rude but I hope I actually qualify for this lol I’d feel silly if I didn’t hop on this train soon enough.

A breath of relief, one I didn’t know that I’ve been holding in, leaves my body. And as my chest heaves down, I feel the grin only you can make appear decorate my face, and suddenly, I feel like everything’s going how I want it to; as if the world’s on my side.

FFXIV New/Shy Roleplayer Advice

In the wake of the release of World Visiting, and in preparation of the new expansion, I wanted to take a bit to bring up some helpful tips and tricks for those who might be diving into the roleplay community for the first time. Some of these are also very useful for those of us who may struggle to reach out for roleplay, or have trouble initiating roleplay.

In this post, I’ll be discussing Search Comments, Idle Posting, Events and Social Media outlets.

Either way, I hope these help! Popping this under a ‘Read More’ to avoid being too much of a wall-text spammer. Sorry to the mobile users! >.<

1.) The Search Comment

Final Fantasy XIV offers the opportunity to attach a small 60 character description of your character to your character’s name.Search comments are perfect opportunities to provide links to social media sites where one might find more information about your character (such as Tumblr, Carrd or Twitter). However, it can also be used to provide a very small glimpse into what kind of character you’re playing. Using this comment efficiently can promote your character to others and collect interest from curious potential roleplay partners.

So let's look at some examples of comments.

“All RP, Tells W/Us welcome” - A good start! You’re letting the community know that you’re a roleplayer, and that you’re okay with both /say and /tell roleplay. You’ve officially flagged yourself as a roleplayer. But there’s not much going on beyond that, right? This kind of comment is like being a single fish in a sea of fish. It doesn’t sell your character very much. But, if you would prefer to hide a lot about your character, this might be the way to go for you.

“RP. Healer. Tribal.” - Much better! Now people are aware that you’re a roleplayer, your character is a healer of some sort, and that they carry some sort of tribal beliefs. This really helps people who are looking for certain RP scenes to find you!

“RP. Old Fortune-teller. Kind-hearted. Missing left eye.” - Another good example! This one lets any potential partner know about physical features that can’t be communicated in game, such as missing limbs or tattoos. This one also provides a personality trait that lets them know how your character might act during a scene.

The Search Comment has a limited space, but is a powerful tool to attract attention to your character. You can update it as often as you want to reflect changes in your character, link to art of your character’s true appearance...the possibilities are endless!

2.) The Idle Post

I think a good number of us have experienced the “Crowded Room of Silence”. A ton of people, with their RP tags on, standing around a room...with not a single word spoken. It’s awkward, and to some, it can be a terrible mix of boredom and disappointment.

A lot of people are waiting to have someone walk up and offer a post. But without a search comment to work with, and without any context about what the character is doing, it can sometimes feel like the initiator is walking up on a statue. That’s where Idle Posting comes in.

Idle Posts are simple posts that describe what your character is doing in that moment. No dialogue is needed, no fancy para-posting required. Just a simple statement to let everyone around you know what sort of movements or activities are happening.

Here’s some examples:

“Ranya Vexile took a drink from the mug of steaming brew that was cradled between her pale hands. The face she made in the wake of the single sip sang songs to the vile aftertaste of the poorly made coffee.”

“Nikolai Barlaas scanned the crowd with a lazy stare. So many people to watch today! And yet, the crowd did not stop the man from fiddling with the worn foreign coin in his hand, the circle of metal rolling over his knuckles like a parlor trick.”

“Arty Surefoot stood at the bar, about to light up her pipe. When her smallfolk hand patted her left pocket, her brows raised in surprise. Where was her lighter? Why wasn’t it in the right place? The lalafell proceeded to rifle through her remaining pockets, muttering grumpily.”

These kinds of posts offer interest to a silent room, and also open up opportunities for those around you to comment on what you’re doing. Is the coffee bad? Where’d you get that coin? Looking for someone? Need a light?

Sometimes it’s just as hard for someone who’s not shy to figure out a walk up post. These kinds of flavor posts really offer some great chances for roleplay to start!

3.) Events

Ah, the scariest of them all. EVENTS.

Events are often built by people who want to promote roleplay experiences. Bar/tavern events are easy starting points since there are often waiters/waitresses/bartenders around that will engage anyone who arrives to ask them for drinks and such.

Other events will have games/events that pair people up (like dances, or the Grindstone) where you are provided a partner to engage. This is a great way for those with a bit of courage to force themselves into a roleplay exchange. While it can be scary the first few times, it can really help a new/shy roleplayer desensitize themselves to the fear of initiation.

There are a TON of events that happen, and with the World Visiting system in full swing, it’s pretty easy to find something to go to on a weekly basis.

4.) Social Media

This one is entirely optional, but absolutely worth mentioning.

Final Fantasy XIV has spread to a number of different social media sources. Tumblr and Twitter are big ones. Some folks also use Pillowfort, Carrd and the RPC Wiki. But what’s the fuss? Why do it?

Roleplay is something that takes time and investment. Character portrayal and growth, storylines, history...all of this information can sometimes take months, years of roleplay for just one person to figure out all there is to know about your character. Having a social media platform where you can document this information can be helpful to attract interested partners, to provide a place to expand on your search comment information, and to post solo writing that allows for people to see into certain aspects of your character that they themselves may not experience when roleplaying with your character.

Social media is also great for fleshing out your character. It gives a place to collect aesthetics and inspiration that can help you as a roleplayer figure out all the fun little details about your character’s appearance, voice, feelings, environment, etc.

Certain media sources, like Tumblr, allow for you to interact with others via asks and messages, offering the opportunity to inspire and answer questions about your characters to build connections outside of the game at a more relaxed pace.

While Social Media outlets do have their detriments, it can still offer a wide collection of opportunities for growth and improvement as a writer and creator.

One last thing to mention - Roleplaying is a hobby that is filled with potential for new friendships and wonderful experiences. But it takes time, effort and a positive outlook. Be kind to one another. Be patient. Keep trying. Communicate.
