i honestly dont give a shit about which current film people are watching etc etc but
everyone being all ohhh if u dont wanna see b/arbie you obviously HATE FUN!!1 (which is literally i take ive read on here. and lets be real, the mindset is applied to literally anything these days) and it's like. okay orrrr maybe people just have different tastes (i literally never played with b/arbies and just dont care)
but also i did so much reading on mattel and the b/arbie branding and the feminist discourse surrounding it all in like 2020 (for unrelated reasons) and the whole discourse just confirms my personal conclusions and opinions on it. both on positive/neutral aspects (peoples personal relationships with b/arbie as a toy and how kids actually subvert stereotyping in unexpected ways are really interesting) and negative aspects (tldr: fuck mattel)
like. this could be a fun discussion but i despise the discourse so lets just pretend i never said anything

in any human GerIta AU, DA ONLY WAY I can think of these two meeting is in central Berlin, early December, around 23pm on a Wednesday or Thursday…. Feliciano is on his way home from having a glass of wine with his friends at a bar, he’s in a good mood and despite the cold he’s wearing his long winter coat unbuttoned… he’s swaying on the sidewalk and suddenly slips and falls, despite the circumstances rather gracefully. Ludwig, the stranger closest to Feliciano, decides to step in and help the guy, simply bc Ludwig is a nice man and not at all bc Feliciano is hawt and sexy and looks like his wet dreams from high school (and also NOT AT ALL. bc Ludwig’s brain has been conditioned into thinking he only has value when serving others). Anyway, despite Ludwig’s help, Feliciano CANNOT get his balance locked in and keeps slipping in Ludwig’s arms, despite Ludwig having a literal iron grip on him ……. alas Feliciano ends up piggy back riding Ludwig, across frosty cobblestone streets lit up by Christmas lights strung between buildings where the windowsills r covered with snow and decorated with greenery ……. n the night is deep and blue and LOVE is in da air …… and from a bar, half empty save the middle aged regulars, u can hear smooth jazz as Feliciano drunkenly points out the directions of his apartment. Anyway this works for literally almost all time periods and I will NOT take any criticism . Talk to the hand this is how they meet as humans

Having finally read the Nimona comic (it’s very good, everyone please go read it) I can’t help but find describing it as being about the power of incredible violence to defeat an authoritarian state, as I've seen done, to be both kind of misleading and ultimately reductive to the story as a whole.
Yes there is incredible violence in the comic and it was in the end what tore down the corrupt system, but it was also Nimona's downfall, destroyed her relationship with her only friend (and led to her (temporary) death by his very hand as he could no longer stand by her and her actions, even as he never judged her, recognized her role as a victim and tried to save her until the end), put countless civilians in danger, and ultimately did little to nothing to address how to actually fix the problems of the system to keep them from returning. In fact, Nimona as a character shows little interest in fixing anything. She suggests killing the king and having Ballister take his place, despite Ballister neither wanting this nor having the experience to pull it off (and would, in fact, only result in replacing one king with another rather than lead to an entirely new system, as is often the case with bloody uprisings). When people start dying from the illness they spread, Ballister wants to immediately stop it; Nimona suggests they let more people die to further rile up hatred and anger against the institution. Nimona isn't a good guy looking to save people; she's an angry, hurt girl looking to hurt those who hurt her and those who have the potential to hurt her in the future (even when Ballister is one of those people). She is the villain the state turned her into.
And that is kind of the point I see the story making. Not 'you need incredible violence to tear down an authoritarian state' as something good and celebratory, but rather 'an authoritarian state will ultimately lead to its own downfall by creating monsters of its own making, and while said downfall is needed the fact that it has to happen at all is deeply tragic because there are no winners here'. Nimona isn't a villain-villain (the true antagonist is obviously still the Institution), but she isn't a hero either. She's a tragic figure with a tragic end that the state brought upon itself by mistreating its people. She doesn't stick around to help rebuild and heal, and she doesn't (to our knowledge) get to see her home become a better place. It's a bittersweet end where the very person who tore down the oppressors is too broken to enjoy the end result. It isn't a story about rebellion, it's a story about the inherent and justified self-destruction of authoritarian systems.
(Writing it out like this, I realize that, thematically, it’s very similar to n.k. jemisin's broken earth trilogy, which you should all also read because it is incredible and not very friendly to authoritarian states.)

started looking for apartments like as a haha goofy thing to pass the time (and bc i wanna move out soon so may as well) and Hm. found one that seems almost too perfect for its price. like the only downside for me is that it's not in a neighborhood i wanna live in but it's still considered a good area, and it's the neighborhood i grew up in so i know the area well (like literally, 2 minutes walk from my old house) which is a bonus. one of the sites i found it on said the owner also signed some guarantee thing? which is a good thing apparently ig idk real estate terms. i kinda wanna go look bc i'm scared someone else will take it lol but i. am too scared to take any step there. Sad!

another funny thing is how every single thing produced or written by a doctor on something that is not commonly diagnosed is like, come on, we're trying!!!! remember that we're trying!!! if a doctor doesn't have the information you need, it's not necessarily their fault, they're working with whta they have :(((( come oooonnnn, it's probably that doctor's birthday, he's just a little doctor birthday boy. you're going to be mad at him on his birthday? wow. did you know every doctor was born on the same day so when you are mad at one you're mad on ALL of our birthdays? we're trying!!!! remember that we're trying!!!! we don't have the resources!!!! and we're not going to look for them <3
