Here's a collection of sites where you can get sound effects and ambience for your projects!
https://freesound.org/ Freesound is a great resource for royalty free and copyright free sounds. Each sound comes with a creative commons license, some of which require credit, so make sure to check those!
https://www.sounds-resource.com/ Sounds resource is an archive of sounds from various video games and PC games, so while they can't be used for anything commercial, you may be able to use them for things like videos or fan games.
https://www.humblebundle.com/software Humble bundle regularly hosts fundraiser bundles of software and game design assets, including sound effects and ambience. You can also put money from your purchase forward the bundles charity. Sadly, humble bundle also puts out bundles of AI books, though, so it's up to you if you think the good outweighs the bad here.
Unreal Marketplace If your project is an Unreal Engine 4/5 game, check out what the Unreal marketplace has to offer! They offer both free and paid sound effect packs for your games. Some you can download as wav files without Unreal Engine installed, as well!
https://pixabay.com/sound-effects/ Another nice resource of free and royalty free sound effects! Attribution is not required, but appreciated!
https://www.youtube.com/ Youtube can be a great place to find copyright free/royalty free sounds too! To get the sounds form the videos, you can use a tool such as mediahuman's youtube-to-mp3 converter.
https://www.gamedevmarket.net/category/audio/sound-fx A paid store where you can find all sorts of sounds and ambience for your video game projects! Humble bundle seems to do bundles with them pretty often so you may want to look into that to save some money here, too.
https://sonniss.com/gameaudiogdc An archive of free and copyright free sound effect packs from the Game Developers Conference! A new pack seems to be added every year, too. :)
https://getsoundly.com/ Soundly is a program more than website, but I have tried it myself and you can get free sound effects from it, and you can get additional sounds if you pay for the pro version as well.
https://www.boomlibrary.com/ While this sound effect site is primarily a paid one, you can get a free monthly bundle of sound effects if you subscribe to their mailing list!
https://blipsounds.com/community-library/ Another great library of free sounds from the Blip Studios community!
https://www.zapsplat.com/ They require you to make an account before downloading anything, but this is another site with lots of free sound effects for your projects!
Itch Io Itch Io is another great resource for both free and paid sound effects!

my nephew was playing some Roblox music on his phone as background during game night, and I know we've talked a bit about Homestuck's influence on comics and storytelling but I don't think we talk enough about how the Homesuck music team had a real tangible effect on indie game music. maybe even music in general. it's not uncommon for me to be listening to some musical thing and think 'is that homestuck??'
#either that or i just really don't know what internet music composers were doing in the 00s and 10s#and what i'm hearing is a natural evolution of that but my only touchstone is homestuck lmao#but like. its not specific melodies or anything its just the way the music sounds? which might just be the instruments used#or the loop effect libraries or something#in the same way someone in a cartoon makes a joke and youre like 'oh haha this writer was a homestuck'#i'll hear some piece of music and think 'huh was this writer a homestuck?'#LMAO just remembered i was in the car with a friend and her husband was playing an album he liked#some rock or metal or something album not even game music or anything#and something about the way the introductory measures sounded made me really think '........is this punk singer a homestuck???'#anyway just spent like an hour looking up all the old homestuck composer's current bandcamps and socials so#i know what im listening to this weekend

upon my recent Metroid Prime replay I noticed that it shares a lot of sound effects with Mass Effect lol
#chatter#I didn't finish the MP game(s)#I have a backlog of other games I need to finish so I stopped the pt#anyway. I just think it's funny that so many sound effects are the same#they most likely used the same sound library

I’m officially off the deep end. I was watching a Doctor Who episode with my sister (Mindwarp) the other day, and in the background of one of the cave scenes there was this kind of pulsing sound effect playing. Immediately I was like “wow I think that’s the same pulsing sound effect they used in a cave scene from Blake’s 7 season 4 episode 1 ‘Rescue’” and I WAS RIGHT

why does everything i get really into always end up being so god damn niche. by the year 2035 i am going to be blogging exclusively about the interpersonal relationships between the pillbugs and snails hiding underneath the bricks lining the flowerbeds in my parent's garden.
#im falling hard into the virvox guys rn sowwy. i like em a lot hee hee. i didnt realize just how small the fanbase for em was tho#actually i didnt realize how small the company that makes them were either. i got so used to the yamahas and cryptons of the vsynth world#that i forgot that like honestly. a lot of the voicebank makers and some of the software makers themselves#theyre like companies of like maybe 5 employees with like no funding LOL not a bad thing but i forgor#but yeah i was looking up to see if there was like. a fanon reason why people shipped takehiro and ryusei? not judging because i get it#i like took one look at the virvox guys and immediately slotted them as a very strange boyband (a catboy and a middle aged dragon man....)#and also took a second look at takehiro and ryusei and assumed they were childhood friends. i saw the doujin flash before my eyes#but also looking into it it seems the fanbase is also like. 20 people. and like 3 of them ship that#and at least one person ships whiteCUL and ryusei? why not LOL when it comes to vsynths sometimes a ship can be spearheaded by like#one very prolific artist HGDJKDFSHDJK which actually reminds me. honestly i dont really have many vsynth ships#i guess i dont really partake in a lot of shipping stuff deeply but i like romance!! you know i like love stories. you know this#i mean i keep calling the eclipsed sounds characters the celestial polycule for a reason tho. im not joking around about this#this is serious to me. they are stars and moons and suns and together they hang out and kiss. in the sky. this is serious to me#also i do like solaria x eleanor forte actually. its a bit random but i understand it. i understand it#and of course the aformentioned takehiro x ryusei. and also the whole virvox polycule. get that old man in here too#(what do they call people like me. a multishipper? i do that a lot. you know this from my otome game fanart LOL)#OH and i dont remember either of their names rn but i like that the cevio bank anju inami voiced has like a big fat crush on like#that girl with the brown hair. i like that theyre like. besties (turning into something more wink wonk)#thinks with all my brain. i think thats it. i dont know why theres so little. i think its because i think of them as like#audio sample libraries first and foremost and i forget about their characters and relationships LOL#but im not against the idea of making some audio sample libraries kiss...... not at all#picks up a guitar sampler and a sound effect cd. presses them together.#hee hee. they kiss

Choosing violence (translating with "thou/thee/thy" in a conversation set in the mid-17th century)
#which carries the unintended effect of making one of the interlocutors#(the one who's addressing his teacher with the formal “Sie”)#sound more modern/normal#but that interlocutor is#Baruch Spinoza#making the radical suggestion that shunning/public shaming is Bad Actually#so the difference in their registers underscores the disparity of their ideas#übertrager übertreter#sherb's sub sub library

hold on just saw some stupid shit in the replies of the Snoopy foley post
BRO I THINK THE GUY PROBABLY KNOWS ABOUT SOUND EDITING. HE KINDA LOOKS LIKE HES A PRO AT IT I THINK HE QUITE POSSIBLY KNOWS ABOUT RECORDING SHIT SEPERATELY. WHY ARE WE ASSUMING HE DOESN'T KNOW - DEAR GOD SOMEONE TEACH THE FOLEY ARTIST POSTING INTERNET VIDEOS ABOUT COMPUTERS
THE GUY IS DOING THIS FOR A FUN INTERNET VIDEO TO SHOW OFF HIS SKILLS. IT'S ENRICHMENT. LASTLY AND I DON'T KNOW IF ITS NOT OBVIOUS BUT I DONT THINK HE IS BEING UNDERPAID BY A STUDIO TO DO FOLEY FOR A SNOOPY ANIMATION THAT IS PROBABLY OVER A DECADE OLD(????). UNLESS YOU COUNT NOT BEING PAID AT ALL BECAUSE, AGAIN, I EMPHASIZE THAT IT LOOKS LIKE HE IS DOING THIS FOR FUN FOR A FUN INTERNET VIDEO. NOT UNEMPLOYED, PRO-AI OR A 16 YEAR OLD BUT EVEN IF I WAS IT'D BE BETTER THAN BEING THIS DENSE AND AGGRESSIVE FOR NO REASON. JESUS H CHRSIT
IS THE FOLEY GUY VIDEO CUTE?
YES WHY IS THIS A QUESTION
#dullblogging#ALSO GOES WITHOUT SAYING THAT#INDIVIDUALLY RECORDING AND TIMING SOUND EFFECTS ALSO TAKES TIME AND WORK#With the number of takes that this carefully choreographed bit requires I. I don't think the guys saving that much time????#not only does being efficient and saving time not exactly mean being paid less#but also i feel like a cheap ass company exploiting workers wouldn't want a foley artist like this theyd want a guy with a sound library

I think if I were a horse in the my little pony universe my cutie mark would be whatever represents "I know that sound effect from somewhere else," a completely inapplicable skill only good for forcing people who share my social media space to see, which seems very purposeless a mark but some of the background characters in the '80s cartoon have corn on the cob and footstool so it fits the world
#that footstep sound effect in the dm3 clip I just reblogged is also used in sonic adventure 2#and most likely many other things because it'll be from a sfx library but I only know it from that off the top of my head
