Blue roly polys, pill bugs, sowbugs: all names for these little isopod, shrimp relatives. Their gorgeous color is from virus that deposits crystals under their shells. It's not contagious for humans but lethal to the roly poly.

Clearly, each isopod contains 4 logic gates. This Armadillidium vulgare has 4 AND gates. Don't forget to connect power & ground legs & use pull-down resistors on inputs.

Found some Isopods and Sowbugs under wood and rocks in our yard today !!

I'M NGL I FEEL BAD NOT BEING AS INVESTED AS OTHER PEOPLE IN WILL/LION. Marked "fanon gets them wrong" because I don't like a lot of people I have seen reducing Lion to the ""woman"" of the pairing. like the [SPOILERS] aside it's kind of weird and missing the point of their ambiguous gender identity. more thoughts under the cut because they are spoilery and my gf has not finished reading umnk yet

I say "I could write essays" because arc 7 is such a fantastic example of how umnk uses its narrators to twist the story's emotional highs/lows -- particularly from Kinzo's POV and how even an "objective" reader like Will can be fed stories filtered through rose-colored lenses but arrive at the "truth" somehow as long as they don't neglect the heart (in this case, Clair's heart, which Lion is a part of)

Anyway even if I can't 100% get emotionally invested in them compared to other umnk pairings I still find them very endearing... I really relate to the idea umnk presents of characters in stories just kind of, running away from you as an author and somehow writing themselves into existence, so the idea of Will/Lion's lives from arc 7 onward just being able to exist forever even if it is "within the catbox" of the endless worlds is so wonderful. and also very clever foreshadowing.

In the carpark near a beach in CT I discovered a group of isopods up to no good.

The pill bugs had formed a pentagram of beach trash, mostly delicate bones of birds & fish. It was about the size of a quarter. They kept adjusting it and adding to it as I watched, horrified, yet fascinated.

I was so engrossed in the mysterious antics of the little woodlice that I didn't even notice the man who'd joined me watching, until he spoke.

"Amazing aren't they?" He said, his voice deep, but warm. 1/ next

As a bug lover, I find sowbugs very interesting! The only land dwelling crustaceans and they choose to spend their time in my basement bedroom! So cool!

As a hater of unwelcome guests, I find sowbugs to be total assholes! Little roly poly ass looking motherfuckers and they choose to invade my personal space! So rude!

She was no ordinary deep sea isopod. We'd always known that they never really stopped growing, but this creature must have been growing from the beginning of time in the Cambrian seas. She was a little larger than a 3-story home. I could have spread my whole body over one of those dark compound eyes and not have been able to touch the edges.

Her mouth parts worked grinding -- and then I understood that similar stridulations must have been how her tiny land-based cousins could "sing."
