An actual summary of Homestuck Act 6's intermissions

by someone who’s a page away from Collide

Let’s do this lightning-round style.

After breaking through the fourth wall on the ship and getting the Gift of Gab (lol), John and Jade prepare for a three-year-long voyage to meet up with the gang, with Davesprite, Nannasprite, and a variety of other faces in tow. They write a letter for the crew.

The Monarch (previously the Mendicant) and the firefly buddy (I've forgotten their name) plead for the Vagabond's life. She takes him to the trolls and kid's rendezvous spot.

The trolls finally meet up with Dave and Rose, who have indeed reached God Tier. Half-dead Sollux and GT Aradia show up as well. They plan to host a "funeral" for Sollux, who is just sort of watching in disgust.

After Karkat's bucket-human-troll-sloppy-fueled breakdown from John's letter, the Vagabond, and the firefly show up, and the gang sets off through the Furthest Ring.

Intermission 2

Hussie, who was taking care of Spades Slick after he fucking killed the world by shooting Snowman, is shot dead by Lord English. I'm sure he'll show up later though. They always do.

It's been about a year in between the intermissions. While Rose explains what the Scratch did, Karkat attempts to explain the troll love quadrants to Dave. They draw dicks, fight, Dave wins by a mile through the suplex

Meanwhile, John, Jade and friends play the Ghostbusters II MMORPG, which is hilarious that that is even a thing in the first place. Jaspersprite sings a birthday song for him, Jade gets dogmad, which causes John to black out.

After getting harrassed by an eepy Roxy, John encounters Meenah (the best character!!!!!) for the first time. He takes a trident from her and wakes back up.

In a dream bubble, Terezi meets Aranea (second best character!!!!), who offers her to heal her sight. In another dream bubble, Hussie proposes to Vriska with a ring. Because of course he does.

Intermission 3 (and some other stuff)

Aranea invites Jake to Meenah's dream bubble, where she finds quite a lot of fighting happening. After telling a story of the Condensce, Jake embarrasses himself by attempting to wallop Meenah. He wakes up after getting whacked, but Brain Ghost Dirk sticks around.

After a "quick" game of Meenah Quest, we get a glimpse of what John and Jade are up to; watching Con Air baybee!!!! Except John has a big freakout over hating the movie, hating Davesprite, and passes out. What a guy.

PM and Noir are locked in chase before they enter a bubble of Jack's own massacre of the Battlefield, before John awakens and fights him. Rose shows up for a brief second and John uses his cool-ass windy powers as well.

After the battle, John wanders into a desert, finds a ring, and finds Tavros (wHO DESPERATELY WANTS THE RING,) and Vriska. She shares her plan to find a treasure that'll defeat Lord English.

After another game of Meenah Quest (where she unsuccessfully gets no one on her team), we go back to the meteor, where Rose drinks and forgets her date with Kanaya (best couple. fight me) and then falls down the stairs. They warned her, dog.

John wakes up with the ring, soyjaks, and the intermission ends.

Intermission 5 (CALIBORN TOOK uP THE LAST SPOT)

Dave and Karkat intervene Terezi, who is a massive wreck because of her degrading romance with Gamzee and letting Aranea heal her eyesight.

John, Vriska, Aranea, Meenah and Aradia find a big green cave in a dream bubble, where they also find a juju. It's the Homestuck House! John sticks his hand in it, his arm appears throughout multiple points in the comic, and then voops out of reality completely. He has an INTENSE STAREDOWN with Caliborn and wakes up on LOMAX, Jake's planet.

Vriska comes back (thanks to John's time shenanigans), plans out everything to come and verbally abuses her ghost self, Dave and Dirk have a feelings jam, dead pre-retcon Terezi and Ghost Vriska rejoice in facing the end, and everybody just about gets ready to

Collide.

This has been by far one of the most bonkers pieces of fiction I have ever read, and nothing gets me more excited than to see all of it come together and wrap all of it up, I hope. Also Caliborn and Calliope are one of the best "Jekyll/Hyde" characters I've seen in a long while!

Whatever lies on the other side of that hyperlink, I sure hope it'll be good.

So, every character is swapped with another (kinda except the author, lusii, and Ms. Paint), but it's not like your average swap, since they also get their classpects and moon reversed as well!

Jane is swapped with John, and Jane is now a Bard of Doom and John is now a Mage of Blood. Both sleep on Derse! Their last names are also swapped, and so is their genes when it comes to ectobiology. Jane Egbert and John Crocker, respectively. (Since I've already showed Jane in her regular outfit and her godtier, I'll show her like this)

Dirk is swapped with Dave, and Dirk is a Sylph of Mind and Dave is a Rogue of Space; both sleep on Prospit. What I mean by they're swapped ectobiologically is that Dirk Lalonde is related to Roxy Strider, and Dave is not related to Rose Strider. Remember, these two are copies of the originals, but they're swapped completely! Here's Dirk and Dave Lalonde!

Hey, I'm getting back into Homestuck in a big way but I'm having trouble with something that feels pretty common to mess up and misinterpret, so I'm wondering if you could shed some light on it. Namely; Kismesistude and Auspistices.... I cant trust my memory until i catch up on the re-read but so far the only Blackrom I can recall canonically is the one with the clown and the uh... messy breakup.

If you have any insight, please share. (Also maybe if you'd prefer maybe clear up some misconceptions on Terezi's romances? I know, ships are all i see, but i feel like some of them are... misinterpretive, but i cant put a finger on why. Sorry for the big ask, have a good day.)

Auspisticism and Kismesissitude aren’t very heavily covered in Homestuck, but we do know a decent amount of things. A few examples of canon, or semi-canon, Kismesissitude are as follows:

Spades Slick <3< Snowman (Plot important. Probably one of the more noteworthy ones, hence listing it first.)

Sollux Captor <3< Eridan Ampora (Not something I’m a scholar on, ultimately never went anywhere satisfying.)

John Egbert <3< Terezi Pyrope (Hinted at, personal favorite.)

Dirk Strider <3< Caliborn (Really funny, can be interpreted either way, still a personal favorite.)

Dave Strider <3< Karkat Vantas (This is where everyone thought their relationship was going in the olden days.)

Gamzee Makara <3< Terezi Pyrope (This is a bad thing. Also plot important.)

Vriska Serket <3< Tavros Nitram (Vriska had tense, vacillating feelings for him for a while. Tavros did not reciprocate. Very plot important.)

There could be more that I’m not presently remembering, but that’s what I can think of at the moment. I did not include Bec Noir <3< Bec Blanche because I don’t really know if that counts- I’m pretty sure PM just has a platonic undying hatred for him, rather than a… Romantically and/or sexually motivated rivalry with him. PM is a motherfucker with a mission. Her hand is not in her metaphorical pants about this.

It’s incredibly important to note that Gamzee and Terezi’s kismesissitude is canonically very broken and abusive. And since I’ve seen this misconception everywhere, YES, kismesissitudes CAN be abusive. Any kind of relationship can be. Kismesissitude =/= Abuse. These are two extremely different things and this is literally a major plot point several times. I’m making no assumptions of your knowledge or character here, anon- this clarification is being made as a precaution since I’ve seen so many people make that same god damn mistake and argue over their own poor readings for years. Sure, reinterpret things how you want, but a shoddy reinterpretation based on a loose grip of facts doesn’t suddenly make, for example, Cronus’s actions towards Mituna be Blackrom. That isn’t how it works. That is textually not what is happening.

Kismesissitude is a complicated quadrant, as all quadrants are, but keep in mind that there needs to be:

Equal levels of power in both parties.

Equal levels of hatred in both parties.

Red feelings mixing with the hatred. That is the backbone of the quadrant. The metaphorical mitochondria of the relationship.

Read this part slowly. Read it carefully. Repeat after me: Fucking CONSENT.

Personally, I like to think of Black Romance as being based in competitive self improvement. Like a purposefully charged rivalry. All relationships are different, so all kismesissitudes have varying parameters for what their relationship exactly entails. Some just royally fuck with each other, others beat the shit out of each other, some may berate each other constantly. It’s a method of challenging yourself and the other party, and whatever is needed for this is a fluid variable.

Lack of communication can lead to things breaking down incredibly quickly, and hurt can compound fast. Sometimes the relationship becomes highly volatile and dangerous, going from a scale of completely wrecking mental health all the way to the potentially lethal.

This is where Auspisticism comes in. They are the mediators to Black Romances, and they make sure that the pair don’t completely tear each other to shreds, one way or the other. They are optional- you don’t really need an Auspistice for your Kismesissitude… Until you do.

The most well known Auspistice is Kanaya. She kinda sucks as an example, though, because as far as I remember, she was not very good at it. It’s a fair thing to find challenging, though- you have to know both parties well enough to know what gets both of them to knock it off, without causing any further harm. It’s basically a harm reduction and damage control quadrant. Once again, as I said with with Kismesissitudes, what Auspisticism will entail is a fluid variable dependent on each party.

As far as Terezi’s quadrants go, she starts off as Childhood Moirails with Vriska, but this evolves into the world’s most tragic Matespritship. She’s had red feelings for Dave, and pitch feelings for John. Karkat has had red feelings for her. Cannot for the life of me remember if this was reciprocated, but they were very sweet as friends. Those are the main things I remember- I’m not one to get too excited over ships, and I don’t really tend to look out for them.

You know, I sometimes see people saying that the quadrants are artificial and/or problematic, like kismesissitude being inherently abusive or whatever, and maybe I'm stupid but I don't really see it? I mean sure, for humans it wouldn't work, but that's the thing: the trolls AREN'T human. They don't work like we do, and it seems like the quadrants are completely fine for them? I'm willing to consider that the ruthless regime of Alternia has maybe used and warped the quadrant system for its own goals, but I don't think it's supposed to be inherently dysfunctional, because then the Beforan trolls probably wouldn't be using it, right? Or was it screwed up and warped there also, but in a different way? Is there something I'm not getting here?

Kismesis for trolls, the way I see it, is something like a rivalry between two people. It's a match to often outdo the other, but you both see each other as equals in some sense. Can also be described as, "Hey! The only one who gets to talk shit about B, is me, A!" The feud between the individuals may go to things like verbal and physical abuse, but it is not to the point of death. Even if one or both party members are highblood trolls, death should not be the reaching point for this pitched romance. The reason why most think it is abuse is because of the involvement of things like the physical harm, despite that they are aliens with their own world thinking and should not be equated to human standards. Probably doesn't help that the well-known pitch romance tends to be Gamzee x Terezi, which is received negatively by fans once it hits [S] GAME OVER. There are other blackroms like we see in Spades Slick x Snowman, but I guess it isn't taken too seriously as others? But I also think the one time the hate-love went too far is with the Black Queen and Jack Noir that would lead to him taking the ring. There is Eridan and Vriska, who were once pitched together. The reason why some might dismiss it is because the whole Vriska is more of a lesbian than straight and Eridan tends to be a creep. But even after the breakup, the two still each other by their FLARP names. The only other reason I see Vriska breaking up is because upon learning about The Summoner and his connection with Tavros, she wanted to cut ties with Eridan to see that challenge herself and hope Tavros would become that new rival for her. John and Terezi is another example of it being pitch, but that is often because of him listening to Terezi to "fix" the timeline and the events that would be Epilogue and Homestuck^2. I'm not a fan of it if because that Terezi would still want Vriska as a friend despite all the shit she caused, abandoning all her other friends like Nepeta, Aradia, Sollux, and Karkat, and of course, I don't see John being always antagonistic to Terezi like she would towards him. At best, he could pull a few pranks at the teal, but I don't think he would go far to do something like physically harm her or be in a sort of rivalry with her for too long. It would be kind of interesting to see if a kismesis could work in a Homestuck fanwork. Maybe joke about how for the tsundere type character in Eastern Alternian animation (anime), it gets confusing on whether the romance is red or black. Trolls would see this in human's anime as well, questioning how is it really redrom if most of the buildup was pitched. But I suppose mutual rivalry is not going to be loved if two people slapping each other in the face in a silly flailing motion, is seen as sexual abuse to some people.

what's up guess who still reads homestuck in this, the year of our lord, 2020. anyway here's every homestuck character in Among Us (under the cut because i do mean every character)

John: happy-go-lucky, way too trusting. always goes off to do his tasks immediately, is usually completely oblivious to who might be an imposter. pretty good as imp, just because no one suspects him right away, but if you pay attention he never tries to fake any tasks 

Rose: makes strategic use of cams/admin table to achieve her goals, but due to this can be slow to complete her tasks. tends to filibuster the vote just because she types so much during meetings, but uses this to her advantage when she's imp to avoid getting voted out

Dave: also prefers to concentrate on tasks, but is way more observant than john. if he's sus of someone he'll follow them around to see if they're faking tasks. similar to rose, gets distracted in meetings coming up with raps instead of paying attention

Jade: likes to use the buddy system, but she'll carry it over between games so sometimes it makes her an easy target. will hang out in greenhouse/o2 when she's done with tasks. her gut sus feelings are pretty accurate in meetings, is a good imp but tries to avoid killing friends

Aradia: dgaf if she gets killed right away, will finish tasks then follow people around the map. if she’s haunting someone as a ghost they tend to get killed soon after. as imp she’s an impulse killer, but usually has pretty good timing so she doesn’t get caught in the act

Tavros: also task-focused, uses one of the little pets. has a hard time asserting himself in meetings, so even if he saw the kill he might not get around to accusing. regular victim of the imp pinning the blame on him. you can tell when he’s imposter because he gains Self Esteem

Sollux: ‘doesn’t play games for wiigglers’, but when he does he almost always wins. favors sabotages as imp, will use them to avoid meetings and get another kill. buddies up with the other imposter to get double kills, but will vote them out if they get caught

Karkat: adopts the loudest = rightest strategy in meetings. can usually be seen telling everyone to do their tasks and stop fucking around. not bad as imp, but gets flustered if someone accuses him out of the blue. sometimes gets voted out just so people don’t have to read his rants

Nepeta: master stalker, will vent kill with ruthless efficiency. always buddies up with equius, but will kill him and >:33c about it without mercy if she gets imp. draws fanart of the trolls as their among us avatars

Kanaya: precision killer, she’s slow but always makes absolutely sure she won’t get caught. extremely efficient at tasks, she’ll check on people’s visual tasks to see if they’re crew. will encourage tavros to type in meetings if he has something to say

Terezi: supreme detective, though sometimes she can get confused if her screen is too blurry. types a lot during meetings, but she’s always working around to an accusation (whether she’s imp or crew). big fan of sabotaging lights to get kills

Vriska: loud, bossy, forces votes. another impulse killer, if she gets caught killing she’ll bluster or point fingers to avoid getting accused. will randomly sabotage to throw people off. usually the one talking over tavros. has a 100% winrate if she gets imp with terezi

Equius: efficient as crew, but horrible as imp. never kills nepeta or anyone higher on the hemospectrum than him. won’t even vote them out even if he knows they’re the imp (gets too sweaty, has to find a towel, and will miss the vote)

Gamzee: will get distracted listening to game sounds or staring at the animations. if there are only a few tasks left to win, it’s a safe bet they’re his. (off sopor, he’s a ruthless killer that heavily favors venting, and is very good at deflecting blame onto someone else)

Eridan: no one likes to play with him because he always tries to turn it into some weird blackrom flirting. is a pretty good imp, but not very careful about getting caught because it’s ‘his right as a seqdwweller’. another one that gets voted out on principle (due to creepiness)

Feferi: just excited to be here, great team player. as imp she’ll kill people if she thinks they’re not doing their tasks fast enough. will apologize for kills in ghost chat if she gets voted off. almost never sabotages, but if she does it’s always one of the crises

Jane: hit-or-miss detective, good at putting cluse together but will take what people say at face value. can be pretty bossy, but you can tell if she’s imp because she doesn’t tell people to finish tasks. will vote someone out if she thinks they’re not working fast enough

Jake: like john will focus solely on tasks and be oblivious to imposters. unlike john, is bad at imp; gets stuck in his own head pretending to be a character from a movie and either doesn’t pay attention to people or forgets to do tasks. always surprised by kills, even his own

Roxy: as crew uses the buddy system, but as imp is absolutely ruthless; trust them at your own risk. great at distracting people in meetings by typing very fast. will accuse on instinct just to see what kind of reaction people have, very reliable about fixing sabotages

Dirk: another big talker, but no one ever gets what he’s talking about. sometimes gets distracted by watching cams and will forget to do tasks. is a good killer as imp, but his real specialty is getting people to think it’s someone else (either with accusations or with confusion)

Damara: completely chaotic, randomly won’t do tasks and will just follow people around. sometimes doesn’t even report bodies

Rufioh: good at encouraging crew, but pretty shy at killing. will usually skip vote if he’s imp, but is an accurate voter when crew

Mituna: single-minded focus on either tasks or killing. will ignore most sabotages, prefers to be alone unless he’s around latula

Kankri: doesn’t play as the game enforces harmful stereotypes about blood castes, culling, ableism, death, space travel, aliens, etc.

Meulin: always partnered with Kurloz, like nepeta is an excellent imp but can be distractable as crew. sometimes forgets to type during meetings

Porrim: extremely good at tracking what people are doing, will call out imposters that try to fake tasks, is Here for the Drama

Latula: runs around a lot, does tasks randomly, will follow mituna around to keep an eye on him, revenge kills imps that killed him earlier

Aranea: big talker, though she’ll get cut off by meenah. will buddy up to do tasks, but is also good at helping the other imp by sabotaging

Horuss: honestly pretty average, sometimes he wins and sometimes he loses. tends to ignore chat from those lower on the hemospectrum

Kurloz: never talks, seems to appear randomly around the map even if he can’t vent. usually hanging around meulin, even if one of them is the imp and the other is crew

Cronus: no one likes to play with him because he’s annoying, a creep, and an ass. usually voted off first on principle

Meenah: chaotic killer, will target one person then follow them around. doesn’t like doing tasks, but can be hassled into it by aranea. impulse votes in meetings

Calliope: helpful, full of headcanons, buddies up with Roxy. ifa  lot of people are talking she’ll stay quiet, but has a lot of opinions and advice if asked. absolutely abysmal at imp (pre-scratch self is quieter, a solo player, and extremely good as imp)

Caliborn: loud, annoying, rage quits, tries to cheat. very easy to tell when he’s imp because he’ll act all superior in chat. gets voted out and banned a lot.

Dad: are ya winnin son

Bec, Halley, GCAT, Vodka Mutini, Jaspers, Maplehoof, Seppucrow: they are just leetol bebbies

Colonel Sassacre: doesn’t know what a computer is

Serenity: amazing player, but no one understands blinking
