Deltarune
This is Toby Fox’s website and we’re just living on it. For more than seven years, his games have cast a spell on Tumblr, stealing the hearts of fans with their winning combination of storytelling, innovative gameplay, and characters filled with heart and determination. Our first look at Toby’s world of monsters and humans came in 2015 when Undertale was released. We learned the meaning of mercy and that while talking through conflict might not be the easiest path, it’s always the right one. When the first chapter of Deltarune came out in 2018, absolute chaos ensued. We met Kris, Susie, and Ralsei and set off on a brand new adventure where you fell in love with the Undertale universe all over again.
The second chapter came as a complete surprise and was one of the best gifts Tumblr received in the past year. You immediately latched onto the continuation of some of the best lore in gaming and memed the living heck out of it. You also spammed our dashes with a tiny little man in pink and yellow sunglasses—so much so that he ended up becoming the #1 video game character on all of Tumblr this year. Spamton had a chance to become a [[big shot!]] and, boy, did he take it.
And he wasn’t the only new character Deltarune threw into the mix. As a game with a combat system based almost entirely (if you’re playing correctly) on social interactions, its characters are key. They're relatable and make you want to root for them. Even, and often especially, for the bad guys. We can almost hear you yelling, “I can fix him!” into the void, and we believe you! Remember that one time you talked about the Deltarune villain, Queen, so much you skewed the tag data for one of the biggest bands of all time and the actual Queen of England? We sure do. And when Noelle Holiday joined the party, your team was finally complete.
This year marked the first anniversary of Deltarune’s second chapter, and you celebrated with every post type Tumblr has to offer. You survived the Tumblr Sexyman poll and the Spamton Sweepstakes, and for that, you all deserve the shiniest gold ribbon.
All of this to say that Toby Fox wins Tumblr. Undertale, for Tumblr, was a total cultural reset, and its impact is still felt even seven years later. It first appeared on our weekly video games list way back on September 21, 2015, just days after the game’s release—and it has been on every single list but one since then. So we’ve always known that Deltarune would find a loving home on Tumblr, and it truly has been so loved.

hi there! i'd just like to say that your kris and noelle "something else" comic has been driving me insane /pos and i'd love to hear more of your thoughts on those two!! their relationship is one of my favorite things in deltarune and your comic just got everything about them so right 🙏
thank you for reading "something else"! oh man, [more of] my thoughts on kris+noelle.... i sure got some of those.
Tumblr media
this was one of the first tweets i made after finishing chapter 2 nearly... freaking 2 years ago. and basically i've just been saying that over and over again in different ways because i'm still not tired of the concept yet and probably wont ever be LOL. i'm obsessed with how badly the narrative wants to force them into an easily categorizable dynamic, especially the romantic one in snowgrave. the literal THORN RING, the more possessive dialogue options, spamton calling noelle a side chick LOL... it all creates this unnerving visual novel bad end atmosphere that feels manufactured by someone who's only ever learned about romance through secondhand sources. they're two queer teens trying to navigate their changing relationship with the only role models they know being their parents' own failed heterosexual marriages. they're so divorced² (divorced children of divorce).
i also like that for being so tragically doomed coded they can be funny! both in a dark humor way and also like, genuinely funny, like the stories of them as kids with kris covering themselves in ketchup and hiding under noelle's bed lmao. i mean there's even something funny about the romantic trappings of the snowgrave route, like trying to put wedding cake embellishments on a crime scene... you know, funny like kids trying on their parents clothes but they're too big and for some reason they're also crying and covered in blood? um.
i'm also SOOOO interested to see how snowgrave will continue in chapter 3! i really liked the hopeful note chapter 2 ended on (well. i took it as hopeful anyway). there's that bit where noelle is talking to herself and she says something like "recently kris has been acting so strange and no one else has noticed... i have to figure out why" and then kris jumpscares her LOL but i think i took that one line and really ran with it. noelle really is the one who knows kris best and despite how scared she is, she's still determined to help them... i like the little subversion of victim/hero going on, the implication that kris might be the one who needs rescuing.
the additional story/lore that came with the spamton sweepstakes made me CRAAAZYYYYY like my GOD... it's cute that noelle likes glitches/creepypasta when kris is kinda a walking creepypasta <3 also, god, noelle falling asleep listening to kris playing piano in the other room... there's so much like. wistfulness and nostalgia and this like... distant/detached intimacy packed into how noelle narrates that scene. it's kind of funny how much there is to dig into when like on a surface level they're just fairly regular childhood friends who grew apart LMAO they're extremely deep to me okay...
on another note i guess i do ship them? i like their dynamic whether it's platonic or romantic (the best is a weird mix of both 👍). it just can't be boring LOL like... this is one ship where trying to apply cookie cutter tropes to them really falls flat and the game is ahead of you on that anyway. in terms of romantically shipping them, i honestly don't think they're doomed to repeat patterns forever... i think they could actually be good for each other! but that's not really the aspect of their relationship that interests me akldjf;alk;sdg maybe i will make 60 page comic of kriselle going to couples counseling some other time
ANYWAY i'm going to cut myself off here, because i really could go on forever lol. i'll give you some links for further reading though
hellspawnmotel's deltarune art
lula pillowbug99's deltarune art
this art by raspbearis which features prominently in my internal kriselle bible
my own unfinished kriselle playlist
my own essay on gender & allegory in deltarune if for some reason u are not tired of hearing me talk yet
okay bye now & thanks again for reading my comic!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So, I don't see anyone talking about it, but remember the Spamton Sweepstakes? During that, there was a secret link to a youtube channel (Dess's?). I forgot it existed because it didn't upload for a year, but it just came out with two new videos.
First is a bunch of Spamton voicelines [LOUD WARNING]
youtube
And the second has Susie being homophobic and then deciding to date Noelle (as a school project infomercial), Kris talking about "the player theory is stupid", and Berdly coming out as trans feminine. Because this is Toby, I have NO idea how much is canon ASDFGHJKL

You know I was thinking about it and... how are kris Susie going to get an entire tv from Toriels house to the school? If we follow the same pattern as the previous chapters, all the darkners objects should be taken from toriels house to castle town, but ignoring the fact that they would have to somehow convince toriel to give them a BUNCH of random objects from her house not JUST the tv, but the other objects could probably be stuffed in kris's pockets, (considering they were able to stuff an entire computer in there lol.) But like, look at this:
Tumblr media
Thats a pretty big tv! How are they gonna move that thing, so I came up with two theories/predictions.
The first one which is actually a pretty simple solution, is that Tenna, (assuming the chapter boss is Tenna), isn't actually the tv, notice the name, "Tenna" like ANTENNA, Tenna might actually only be the antenna on TOP of the tv, thus making transportation much more possible.
The second one...
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Ok, hear me out, what if these lines from the spamton sweepstakes special were actually FORESHADOWING, what if toby... just straight up KILLS or damages Tenna? This might just be the edgy grim side of my brain thinking, but it would be one HELLUVA way to ramp up the stakes, and show Kris and Susie, that this is serious, I mean, they're HEROES, they're supposed to be saving the world and all, yet they aren't taking this very seriously at all, Susie even likes exploring the dark worlds with kris and states that what the knight is doing, might not be such a bad thing after all, and at least during a non-weird route, kris seems to enjoy them as well, considering they opened up a dark fountain just to go on another adventure with Susie, this could be a wakeup call to them, that the dark worlds ARNT all fun and games, and that they are real dangerous places, full of people, who can, and will die (via the roaring) if they don't save them by stopping the knight.
Anyway, the first theory is more likely, idk if toby would really be willing to do that, but then again, the man DID make the genocide route and weird route, so he can do that sort of stuff if he wants.
Kris could also just have a comically large tv in their pocket I guess, but anyway, let me know what you think.

"Secret" Page's Secrets on Spamton Sweepstakes Web Page
I've been analyzing the html code of the various pages on the Spamton Sweepstakes website. Sometimes if you click on the banner ad with a game on it...
Tumblr media
...You get Secret Pipis with a gasping crowd sound & the page is called "You Lose." (Nothing of interest in the code.) But sometimes, you get a game where you open wardrobe doors & try to find a "prize."
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The cabinets are designated by letters. A Ralsei plush is a "Winner" in PrizeB (the 2nd door). A pipis is in G & again is named "You Lose" (G, huh?....). L is an empty gumball machine, questionably considered a winner. (It's broken; the knob is missing so it can't even be reused like this. What could this be about? A vague snowglobe representation? The ethereal thought of "what is it WAS full of candy or toys"? Tom Servo's head from Mystery Science Theater 3000? 😅)
M is a screenshot of a small part of a wiki page including text that reads "website that lures the viewer deeper and deeper".
Tumblr media
A quick Google search came up with the Superbad website. Here's the wiki: (which has already been updated to refer to this secret, lol) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Superbad_(website)
Then there's O, which doesn't have the usual prize designation in its code, but instead takes you to a new page (/chair). This is where it got very, very interesting... There's the chair, with what looks like a coat or jacket draped over the back, then if you click it, a creepy black blob stirs over the chair, with a sound called water.ogg. (Again, interesting that the game refers to the song from the sea, & when Kris first falls into the Dark World in Chapter 1, there's a water sound effect...)
The page title for the regular chair, then the darkness-enveloped one, are:
"But what if it could... ...get darker than dark?"
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
(Pure guessing, but what popped into my head is: Dess left her coat & went out, & may have been consumed by darkness. A deeper layer of darkness...)
When I tried to save either image directly on the web page, it only saved as a tiny pair of circles colored yellow & pink. The code shows those as an "alt", which intercepts the save attempt, & there was a sound called face.ogg mentioned as well.
Then I noticed a variable in the code...
Tumblr media
So I found out what the eyes are for... There's a very small (looks like 5%) chance that clicking the chair... causes a jumpscare! I managed to record it. (Sound on for full effect)
WOOO!!!! SCARYYYY!!! XDDDD
(I wonder if that's Spamton... or DEVICE_FRIEND?)
(Not sure the wardrobe prize slot letters mean anything, but just rounding 'em up to point out there's BGLMO. A couple sort-of anagrams can be made from that, but so far none seem meaningful yet at least.)

I'm honestly surprised it took you so long to catch the Spamton hyperfixation dshfsdu
I’ve been extremely sunk in Plaguecore for three years! I did play the chapter when it first came out, but to be honest, i kinda rushed it because I was anxious about what was going to happen. I do remember vividly that I was impressed with him in his scene, but when i couldn’t figure out how to find him again, i kinda gave up.
But now! the spamton sweepstakes happened. A whole website of content! a whole crazy video! and i learned how much i had missed in the game!
And…
the kind of character Spamton is just has so much POTENTIAL. so many LAYERS. hes a madman and a professional! a puppet and a force to be reckoned with! when a character has so much to play with, the fanartsy mind can go as wild as it wants and feel at home c:

I figured, with the recent release of DR!NN Part 2, I'd talk for a bit about my own interpretation of how Deltarune's dark worlds function, and how that translates into the how and why of Nostalgia Nightmares themes and motifs of it's dark world, Relaxation Resort.
So Dark worlds, at least the way I see them, are formed from the associations and memories of those in the Darkworld specifically during it's creation. This seems hinted by a lot of the imagery in chapter 2, combined with the context of Noelle's blog from the Spamton Sweepstakes, and the crux of theories denying Kris as the knight already have enough evidence to assume Berdly and Noelle were already in the library's computer lab before the knight opened a fountain there (this also explains why they're so ready to assume it was a dream, I wouldn't assume it was a dream if I don't remember even being at the table I woke up at.)
I also believe that Deltarune will be very choosy with it's themes of control and freedom, tackling the issue from a different perspective, based on the physical themes of said chapter's dark world. Chapter 1 tackles freedom of choice and predetermined fate through it's world of game pieces and cards. Chapter 2 tackles direct control and manipulation through it's world of technology, and given what we've seen of Chapter 3, I wouldn't be surprised if it tackled freedom of expression through a world of performance and TV programming.
...That being said, it wasn't the theme I came up when I first thought up DR!NN, because there's a lot more to Toriel's house than just the TV, and I thought Nostalgia would make a far more interesting method of escapism to explore. This is where DR!NN's overarching theme comes into play, the lack of control over the passage of time. It's also where that element of memories will come into play, as this is the first dark world WE were present for the creation of, meaning OUR collective memories of undertale can be used to further push the atmosphere of nostalgia, by designing the dark world to be extremely reminiscent of things we've seen before.
...I don't really have anywhere I was going with this, but I wanted to get it out there anyway.

// 1, 2, 3 for the canon questionnaire question (explosion sound effect)
Tumblr media
canon questionare. || ACCEPTING
1. What made you pick up this character?
I'd already loved Spamton when Chapter 2 first came out, but it wasn't quite to the level I do now until I did another playthrough early last year and really latched onto his story. Then the big Sweepstakes thing happened on my birthday and I ended up going off the deep end, something there absolutely vibes with me in massive ways. He's my blorbo.
I also really wanted to get back into the group after taking a nearly year+ long break, I figured his gremlin ways meshed well enough with mine that I'd have fun writing him!
2. How did you get into this franchise/fandom?
I was around Tumblr when Undertale first got big and remember really enjoying the game, but not to the level of really "joining" the fandom. A real quiet sort of enjoyment!
Deltarune Chapter 1 dropped and I adored it, but again didnt really "get into" it. Chapter 2 is where I've started really looking into it, though I started later than most even though I played on release day. I still dont really talk about the games much with people, mostly an anxiety thing. I'm a lurker!
I also remember liking Deltarune more because I liked Toby Fox, I'm really proud of what that guy's accomplished as an indie dev. I used to wanna get into that stuff!
3. What’s the best thing about the show/series/books/comics/etc.?
The darker narrative about the meta and the themes of control (in the sense of a player's relationship with the characters). I'm sure it'd been done before in other media, but this was my first exposure I enjoy the way it's handled in the games. Gaster fascinates and terrifies me as a concept and that's not even getting into what happens to people like Jevil and Spamton when they come into contact with that same idea. It's a different kind of horror and I'm definitely behind it!
But also, I really really like the humor.

Hi Jaru, love your channel and theories! So apparently this is old news but I only got into Deltarune in 2021 when Chapter 2 came out, but apparently the first version of Ch1 aka SURVEY_PROGRAM has no way to be uninstalled. I googled it, looked it up on reddit, on tumblr, on twitter, and nope, there's no way to remove it and nobody's asking why? And up to now Toby Fox hasn't fixed it? If it's such a giant bug you'd think he'd fix it by now. I think it's not a bug and is intentional. If it were, after all, it would be covered by the license agreement that says "You accept everything that happens from now on." Sorry, but I'm spooked. Very, very spooked. I don't have this version of Ch1 thankfully, but I'm amazed no one cares that using this uninstaller can do so much damage and they're ok with just never removing it? I think not enough people know about the uninstaller issue because I didn't see much about it here on Tumblr or Youtube. Do you know if it's fixed for Ch1&2 then? I'm afraid to test it out and ruin my computer... I wholeheartedly believe there's going to be some special event that will happen in the game later on for those who have the original SURVEY_PROGRAM. If this uninstaller issue doesn't happen for Ch1&2 then I think maybe that's because it's the demo and you have to pay for the rest, as Ch2 was originally supposed to be paid-for with the rest of the game, right? So maybe the rest of the game when installed will have this same uninstaller issue and it will be important for the special event. Ever since I watched playthroughs of Undertale and saw how Flowey messes with your save file I thought "How would Toby Fox top this for an immersive experience?" and now I believe he's going to have some event happen. I totally believe Deltarune is an ARG. Why else the real-time updates on Twitter or the newsletter or the Spamton Sweepstakes. It's fun, yes, but I believe there's more to it all. I don't want to tell you what to put on your channel, but I think this is pretty big and at least people should be more warned about this uninstaller issue. So I ask that you could please talk about this to your audience, if just briefly. And yeah the number version of the SURVEY_PROGRAM being 0.6.6.6 spooks me. And yes I am familiar with most theories and it probably just being a thematic thing within the game but it spooks me still. here's Toby's tweet about it https://twitter.com/tobyfox/status/1057646559695986688
How strange. Hopefully that's been fixed.

13, 15 and 20 for the end of year ask game :O
thank you!!
if you've had any F/O(s) for longer a year, did you find out anything new and surprising about them this year? Did this change your relationship change in any way?
finding out spamton is canonically Polyamorously Inclined (per the sweepstakes) did not actually change anything but it did for sure validate the rouxls/me/spam ot3
is there any piece of selfship-related content you've created this year that you're particularly fond of? (this can be art, writing, a headcanon you came up with, etc. anything counts!)
oh yeah, this year was fucking prolific for my creative energy. i think my favorites are the no grim office au fics and the 432 first kiss fic
are there any hopes and wishes you have regarding your own selfships and/or the selfship community as a whole for the coming year?
i hope my friends here in the community have a fantastic year ahead of them!! love you all :)

Deltarambles P.3
Soon after spam gets the phone to his office, it begins to mysteriously work again despite not being plugged in, or even remotely in the right condition to be usable [after all, he did find it in the dump]
But, not one to look a trojan horse in the mouth, spam falls right into the trap
<><><><><><><> A thing i wanna mention: Mike isn't the bad guy in this situation, Tenna is. After all, in the sweepstakes Spamton vehemently defends him, and instead is mad at Tenna, so it's safe to assume that mike and spam were and still are on good terms <><><><><><><>
When spam first picks up the phone, he's told that he was chosen for something amazing, and that he would be working alongside a man named Mike, who he was told would tell him all he would need to know to become the best ad ever.
Due to his desperation, he agrees to this and the next time his phone rings he meets Mike
Mike is everything spam wishes he could be: Oozing confidence, Powerful, well off, etc. Mike promises spam that as long as they work together, he can and will become the bigshot of his dreams
First, Mike suggests he works on his confidence [After all, a white addison who had been abandoned by his birth family and had never made a sale in his life wouldn't exactly have the most confidence] And, with Mike's help, spam gets the hang of it. Spam makes his first sale, and his family are ecstatic! So far, things seem to be working! They're happy for him, and they go out to cyber grill to celebrate, and spam buys them all dinner because this is the first time he's able to afford it on his own and he wants to repay them.
But, of course, that's not enough. Next, Mike suggests that spam changes his look! After all, he looks just like every other ad. to get noticed, he needs to stand out! So, Spam dyes his hair and changes up his clothes, and gets a new cool pair of shades as a gift from his family.
The Addisons start to get a bit worried. Sure, most Addisons had their own variation to the work uniform, but most of them looked about the same: Black top, green pants. It was almost as if Spam was trying to not be an Addison anymore. But, of course, the others keep this to themself because this is the most sales spam has ever had, and this is the happiest he's ever been! they've never seen him like this before, and they decide for now that it's a good thing
[ from their point of view he just suddenly drastically changed up his entire look almost overnight. [also doesn't help that he's talking with a mysterious someone who suddenly just started helping him without wanting anything in return] Wouldn't you be at least a little bit worried if someone you were close to did something like that]
Then, when that isn't enough, Mike suggests that spam changes his name to something a bit more catchy. After all, Spam doesn't sound like a name you would want to buy your used car from. And, together, they came up with the name Spamton G Spamton. it's repetitive, it's catchy, and it's the type of name you would trust!
If spam's family wasn't worried before, they're surely fucking worried now! First he starts getting calls from some mysterious benefactor, then he changes up his entire look, then he changes his entire name!!! Its as if he'd do anything if Mike told him to! [which, to be fair, he probably would]
