also reminds me of something i THINK i remember, think it was her who said during brazil she kept accidentally speaking french to people because of how close she felt to them

I love love love that the ccs will be forced to use the translator in order to communicate with the new ccs joining qsmp because that’s what it’s there for!!!!! it’s a translator!!! use it to translate, even if both of you are able to speak the same language!

I don’t see enough people use the translator, especially when the ccs are both able to speak (usually) english, and it’s still great that they can speak easier if they speak the same language, but the language barrier is one of the causes for the creation of the qsmp! Let the language barrier be a barrier in the first place, and let the translator do the work it was meant to do!

Let people who physically can’t speak the same language interact! It’s part of what makes qsmp qsmp, and even though it has impacted hugely just from adding people who generally create content and talk in different languages, I do think it somewhat lacks in the people speaking different languages category, because while that is true, it is also somewhat untrue in that all of the ccs can speak one of the same language (usually english), even if they’re not a natural at it!

Now, that’s not a bad thing at all! But, it does blur the speaking different languages problem that was meant to occur in qsmp. They speak different languages! Let them speak whatever language they want and let the translator do the work! Again, that is what it is there for! It is a translator! (I’m looking at you twitter)

And even if it takes a million repeats of the same sentence for someone to finally get what another person is trying to say, a hundred fuck-ups of the translation or a thousand language barrier/cultural miscommunications, again, qsmp was made for this to happen! It was made so people who come from different backgrounds and are usually unable to interact because of cultural/language barriers can interact, whether it start out negative or positive!

And I trust them (the ccs and fans) to communicate if controversy/confusion happens culturally and language-wise, and (hopefully) for the fans to not turn anything minor** into a huge drama, so I am extremely excited to see the ccs be forced into using the translator!

✍️ After returning to a fanfic following a small hiatus, I was irked to find an author attempting a non-native language and consistently making errors.

This goes beyond mere typos; despite being corrected in numerous comments, the author proudly persists in their linguistic mistakes, seemingly misled by unreliable beta readers (who, I suspect, also lack proficiency in the language). Bloody hell…when I tell you this is a pet peeve…

🫴✨ TLDR: Avoid incorporating languages you aren't native in or haven't properly learned into your fanfics. Frankly, it ruins the quality of your writing and shows lack of care. Using it solely for aesthetic purposes doesn't justify the inaccuracies…

This was brought on by my Spanish lesson tonight where I had some listening exercises to do and for the first one at least I could have figured out the answers without even the document

I don't remember exactly where I was going with this but I think it was something about once you understand the logic of language tests and how to use keywords to make educated guesses about what people are saying you can probably improve your score a lot, even if your fluency level doesn't change much

Also yes I’m reading Babel by R F Kuang and I’m hooked I did not expect to get this invested as I’m not typically a fan of alt history or any period pieces but i feel like ive been to 19th century Oxford like I’m a dark academia blogger who ships lord Byron with Percy bysse Shelley. I’ve heard so many conflicting opinions on this book I know it’s very divisive but regardless of how I much I enjoy it once I finish at least I can impress my friends by reciting the etymologies of random words.

I'm only speaking about like, streamers and youtubers because those are the ones i see playing, obviously (and i'm only talking about genshin impact and honkai star rail bc those are the 2 hoyo games i play but i'm willing to bet the trend is the same in other hoyo games, and possibly in other chinese "anime" games)

The number of times i click on a video and the person speaks english but has their game set to japanese dubbing for no reason, like. Can you guys stop being weebs for just one second please.
