I’m rereading the Enders shadow series (side note: I think that the mark of a really good book series is that it was my favorite when I was ten and it’s just as good nine years later) and I’m thinking about what I promised myself I’d remember from when I was ten. One, I promised I’d remember that I wanted to be Peter and Valentine as a ten year old like they did, I just wasn’t articulate enough. Card wrote the children well and in promised myself I’d remember the aspirations of a ten year old. Two, I never cared about ender and I always idolized Valentine and hated Peter. (Yes at nine years old I was anti-war, much to the chagrin of my ex-military father). I wanted to be a good person like Valentine, and I never never never wanted to be Peter because he was horrible.

And now I’m thinking back at my hatred of Peter and realizing that he’s my favorite character now because I was totally Peter all through my life and I’m finally learning to be shadow of the giant Peter, not Enders game Peter, and I think that most ten year olds are just inherently monsters cause they don’t know how not to be. Also, I think you become a much better person when you leave home and don’t have to constantly compare yourself to others who are clearly superior.

the funniest meltdown ive ever had was in college when i got so overstimulated that i could Not speak, including over text. one of my friends was trying to talk me through it but i was solely using emojis because they were easier than trying to come up with words so he started using primarily emojis as well just to make things feel balanced. this was not the Most effective strategy... until. he tried to ask me "you okay?" but the way he chose to do that was by sending "👉🏼👌🏼❓" and i was so shocked by suddenly being asked if i was dtf that i was like WHAT???? WHAT DID YOU JUST SAY TO ME?????????? and thus was verbal again

Sure the stories of the emperors are interesting but I really wanna know what it’s like for someone who lives below in stratos. What’s it like to live in the ancient capitol? Is animalia seen as a strange place to visit? Do common people sell things under the bridge? What are the cultural quirks and sayings? Are the people in tumble town also toys? Is Joel alone on stratos? Do people in chromia tell stories about the bard that passes through? Is there controversy over whether to support pix’s museum? Will children sneak away to the frog-light orchard? Do the people of gobland long to see the sun? Are there handprints under the railroad tracks, emblems of people that wanted to be remembered? Does Eddie gossip about his son in the tavern? Does Hermes have friends? Do people work in the catacombs? How much do people know about the stratosphere? Are those in forgotten cove also deathly afraid of skeletons?
