"what can i say..." archie shrugs his shoulders, biting anxiously against his bottom lip. he could kick himself until he was down over his clear hunger to be around the younger man, especially when he'd convinced himself he'd learned his lesson from the numerous relationships he'd suffered through in the past, believed he'd been convinced finally, that he was better off alone. now though, he seemed less sure. "...i needed to measure again?" he teases it, the words falling more like a question than any factual statement that should be believed.

Pour one out for Reggie, always second choice for the Lodges after Archie
SECOND CHOICE FOR EVERYONE. like literally it is so hard to evaluate reggie (especially w/r/t the lodges) without bringing in The Tragedy Of The Side Character Rival-Foil who exists in the narrative to experience B-plot versions of the A-plot in miniature
riverdale-the-metanarrative is so blatantly full of guys who are different versions of archie and where his character could go in the story if he didn't have to be the protagonist-hero - munroe as the jaded star fighter with the same nickname hiram originally used on archie as an endearment, who could get out of this damn town if he commits to sports. eric jackson as the disabled vet with unmanaged ptsd who betrayed his unit for a manipulative man in authority who just gets to be a respectable figure in society while his groomed victims suffer (and he could speak up and get justice if he's willing to handle the social impacts of being labeled a survivor). kevin as the openly-gay damagingly-impulsive, validation-seeking, people-pleasing, insecure joiner with a nice-but-emotionally-distant dad who keeps trying to find happiness through in-group conformism. julian s7 as literal understudy, and the guy who died in war (also got targeted and negged by s7 reboot hiram lodge in the s7 reboot version of wrestling. dramatic monologues).
reggie is like. the most powerful and tragic of all of these archie analogs bc he's sometimes a rival, too. so his jealousy and inferiority complex towards archie exists both inside and outside of the narrative! all of those other archie reflections aren't also competing with him and comparing themselves to him and constantly getting handed his leftovers and cast-offs and feeling that that is what's happening. but reggie is :\
anyway. so tragic. love u reggie

and here is.... the final design for Charlie Morningstar!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Charlotte M. Morningstar is the Princess of Hell, and the Heir to the Hellion Throne. She is also a nervous wreck who just wants to help her citisens, however difficult those sinners may be.
speaking voice: Alice from Disney's "Alice in Wonderland" (1951)
singing voice: Susan Sarandon
----------
birthday: the thirty-first of october, 1535
visible age: twenty-five
----------
race: nephilim; the child of a heavenly and earthly being
dae: satyr
height: 115 cm, 7 ft
weight: 95 kg, 210 lbs
----------
pronouns: she/her/hers
sex and gender: intersex woman
sexuality: bisexual with a preference for men
----------
personality: enfp (extraverted, intuitive, feeling, perceiving)
five good traits:
optimistic, always looks for the silver lining
generous, would give anything to see at least one person improve themselves
empathic, feels deeply for everyone
kind, loves to be loving
hopeful, sees potential in everyone and everything
five bad traits:
nervous, over plans for everything and worries about all outcomes
conflict avoidant, will avoid as much conflict as possible, even if it meant hurting herself
overly positive, tries to put a positive spin on things either too soon or too much
workaholic, cannot stop working to the point of loosing sleep and snacking unhealthily
bottled up, doesn't want others to think she is weak or negative, so she pushes down any fears or bothers until she reaches a breaking point
----------
i wanted Charlie to normally look soft and friendly, so I gave her a softer body (chubby cheeks, tummy, and thighs) and a fluffy pixie cut, but i wanted also to convey the tucked away anger and fear within her by showing pieces of her more demonic form in her claws, horns, and chaotic eyes. she was given four goat-like ears and a long, serpentine tail to show that she was more than any sinner, and rather a being far more powerful and ethereal than at first glance.
for her clothing, she has a style reminiscent of the 1960s and 1970s, as those decades were huge in the act of political and social change and their aesthetics are very warm and nostalgic.
----------
Charlie has been alive for a long time, so while she was growing she used that time to educate herself on many topics. She has ten Ph. D.s in Psychology, five degrees in Architecture, and five in fine arts history. Despite Charlie's clear intelligence, she isn't always the most confident in herself, often letting others use her under the guise of being kind.

edits that i would have made to riverdale if they'd known to hire me
more explicit hiram/archie/veronica. now i know what you must be thinking: how the fuck could it get more explicit than what was already shown, especially since archie is the flavor of oblivious gay that would mean he'd likely shirk any form of homosexual contact with a confused smile and an aha, whoa, did you– did i– no, im straight. yeah. but all the same i'd have liked some more sensual solo scenes with him and hiram. his deteriorated half disinterest in his relationship with veronica in favor of his growing obsession with her dad is good but not perfect. i want them to get touchier and weirder about it. and i want veronica to also get in on it
cheryl as an insane quasi incestuous straight woman. i have never seen a less convincing dyke than as portrayed by madelaine petsch, and i have never seen her have more chemistry with anyone than when she was either a) obsessing over jason, b) using archie as a romantic projection of jason or c) straight up romancing archie in season 7. it's actually absurd. also cheryl is fucking crazy in a commandeering action seeking sort of manner and archie is the ultimate orders boy so you can imagine what a red-haired power couple the two of them could have been. archie go die in my mines yes honey <3
if cheryl had to be a lesbian then at least let her be involved with donna sweett from season 3. no meaningful thoughts here i just think they could have enjoyed each other's weird mind games, writing/painting foils, and overall gothic aesthetics. and i bet donna wouldn't have been so lame about the whole taxidermied twin in the basement thing
more explicit hiram/reggie/veronica. here i do actually mean explicit. i want that boy passed between the two of them like a rebound blunt. i want him spitroasted by the narrative.
speaking of which reggie and archie should have at least made out in season 7 and it's actually preposterous they didn't. i never knew a gay man (the show creator) within a cast of gay characters could queerbait like that.
in the jughead paradox i would have loved to see a taste of the flavor of insanity that would have befallen jason if the roles were reversed and cheryl had been the one to die way back in episode 1. i think about this roleswap a normal amount
more ethel. thank fucking god season 7 gave her justice by letting her escape the narrative but i still wanted to know more about this dnd-obsessive horror artist weird girl (+ betty's arguable half sister)
i would have had reggie actually be groomed by that driving instructor (miss bella) in season 7 rather than have it be a red herring. more horrible parallels to archie etc. also i want him and veronica to stay in that awful toxic rebound-adjacent business partnership forever but that's just me
more on the season 7 mini jughead squad (dilton doiley, ben button, ethel muggs). they hinted at it and never delivered and it makes me lose my mind to think about
REMOVE THE PALLADIUM PLOTLINE. I HAVE NEVER CARED LESS ABOUT ANYTHING IN MY LIFE THAN THAT ROCK.
more detective drake from season 5. she showed up told betty to leave her man and experiment with women and left without even kissing her. also her name sounds like dyke. i miss her so much and also every day.
musical episode ideas: dear evan hansen (smth related to covering a murder and jughead is evan and archie is jared and a gun is in my mouth), bare: a pop opera (featuring gay kevin), in trousers or hadestown (they could never pull either off but i'd love to see them try).
actually fuck it also more on eric jackson from season 5. preferably dating archie but i'm not picky.
ARCHIE SHOULD HAVE ABSOLUTELY STAYED IN RIVERDALE IN THE EPILOGUE? WHAT DO YOU MEAN HE LEFT HE LIVES AND BREATHES AND BLEEDS RIVERDALE HE WOULD HAVE ABSOLUTELY NEVER LEFT BY CHOICE OR FREE WILL HE HAS A WIFE AND TWO BEAUTIFUL CHILDREN AND IS BURIED OUTSIDE OF POP'S.
kevin worse quality life. yes i just don't think he goes through enough. i think he should have been in an unhealthy sexual relationship with the devil after he turned him into a cop (percival pickens) (i know percival is technically not the devil but he's english anyway)
cheryl should have had a cannibalism moment that post on tumblr was right
i don't think i emphasized enough earlier how badly i want explicit hiram/reggie/veronica. specifically of a flavor where both the former and the latter are using him to fill an archie shaped hole in their heart while also as a weird incest divorce cope to get back at their respective daughter/father. if you think i had established my point well enough just remember it again with me because it could have been beautiful. i'd have dragged this out for half a season at minimum
more on peaches the background character peaches (she is very attractive).
a proper time loop episode
was about to say 'canonically bisexual betty' (<- has been a vocal supporter since day 1 when she kissed veronica) but then remembered this is actually true now and now i'm so happy i forgot most of the other qualms i was going to add on this list
non-sike deaf jughead
non-sike dead jughead
a jughead that kills himself and makes it everyone else's problem

20 questions for fic writers
tagged several weeks ago by @doodledrawreblogs - thanks cy! and sorry this is late lol
1. how many works do you have on Ao3? counting drabbles, 77 works!
2. what's your total Ao3 word count? 127,611 (yes, most of the works are oneshots)
3. what fandoms do you write for? I have AO3 stuff for Stargate SG-1, NCIS, Top Gun, and RPF!
4. what are your top five fics by kudos?
I thought this would just be all the multichaps I've written (or started) but I guess there's something to be said for older stuff because it's actually all Stargate! I suspect penny!fic will eventually appear on here if I ever get off my butt and finish it
In All Duty and Service (T, Stargate, S/J, 13k)
4am (G, Stargate, S/J, 2.4k)
for here I am sitting in my tin can (strike him down) (G, icemav, 7k) - 964 kudos
and ease my mind (G, icemav, 533) - 947 kudos
so put me where I belong (G, mavdad, 3k) - 853 kudos
5. do you respond to comments? Originally, I responded to every comment. Then I started getting the inevitable daily/weekly "please update" or "update" or "are you going to finish this??" comments and now I don't respond to every comment. If your comment says something nice, though, I'll do my best to respond to it eventually!
6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending? Uhh...nothing yet, I think? I'm really way worse about saccharine-sweet, syrupy, TERRIBLY FLUFFY endings.
7. What’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending? I wrote a 200-word ficlet that is literally only the happy ending! Just Like in the Movies
8. Do you get hate on fics? Not yet, but all my more ~controversial~ stuff is safely in my GDrive still, so....*shrugs* all my current AO3 stuff is pretty bland.
9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind? Nope. Every year I threaten to do it and then I just get all embarrassed about it and never share anything.
10. Do you write crossovers? What’s the craziest one you’ve written? Not yet, but if I had a good idea for one I'd absolutely write it!
11. Have you ever had a fic stolen? Stealing Cy's answer for this because it's so true lol. I don't...think so?
12. Have you ever had a fic translated? Not that I know of! (If you would like to translate anything of mine, please go for it! There's not much to work with right now though lol)
13. Have you ever co-written a fic before? Nothing that's on AO3, only super-secret stuff that may never see the light of day!
14. What’s your all time favorite ship? is this question asking for an OTP? Because I have two: Sam/Jack, SG1 and Janeway/Chakotay, Voyager.
15. What’s a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will? Gah, all of them. Uhhh, there's a marriage-of-convenience SJ AU where Sam and Jack have to be married to be on the same SG team that @carothepoet and I brainstormed years ago, and I doubt we'll ever finish?
16. What are your writing strengths? Silly dialogue, short fics! That's...um...it.
17. What are your writing weaknesses? WRITING VOLUME. It's not that I can't do it, it's that I don't ever prioritize my writing enough to find the time. In terms of actually putting words on the page...description is hard. Plot is hard.
18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic? Honestly, I'm just insane and "what the hell, it's a hobby not a job" enough to Google Translate something if I really need to have some dialogue in another language. Obviously I'd put a disclaimer that I have no idea if it's correct. I like making fun of the "everyone speaks English" TV trope though, so I'm far more likely to just have the aliens randomly speak English XD
19. First fandom you wrote for? The first thing I published was for Stargate. The first stuff I wrote before I knew what fanfiction was? God, probably...actually I have no clue? percy jackson? chronicles of narnia? who knows.
20. Favorite fic you’ve written? I am choosing to be an optimist today: I don't think it's been written yet!! I do, however, have a special fondness for Chapter 3 of Letters to Archie for, yes, its pettiness and fluffiness, and also for in for a penny, in for a pound because it's fun!
I haven't been on here in ages so I have no idea who to tag. I'm just gonna tag a bunch of people and hope some of them are actually active. Uh, no pressure tagging @malewifebillcage @tommyjop @curator-on-ao3 @mylittleredgirl @mrv3000 @delicatelie89 @ladywaffles @sluttyhenley @redbelles?

Indiana Basketball Needs A Change
So before I go too deeply into this, I need to make it abundantly clear that I am not an Indiana alum, nor am I current student at Indiana University. I’m not from Indiana, and truthfully, I’ve never been super invested in the inner workings of Indiana sports. However, that may be why I am qualified to speak on this. I have been a college basketball fan for as long as I can remember, and that means I’ve seen programs rise and fall. I’ve seen the craziest of upsets and most dominant of wins, and all in between, my friends and I seemingly keep saying, “Wouldn’t it be awesome if Indiana was good again?”, and every single year, they severely under perform. Whether it was the Tom Crean era, the Archie Griffin era, or even the shortly lived Kelvin Sampson era, Indiana basketball always finds a way to be below average. And now here we are again. The prodigal son, Mike Woodson, recently took a loss at home against the dregs of the Big Ten this season, Penn State, and everyone immediately got to questioning whether or not he’s the best man for the job. Keep in mind, this is probably the most talented team Woodson has had, bringing in talented freshmen like Gabe Cupps and Mackenzie Mgbako, adding a major transfer in Kel’el Ware, and returning major contributors from last season like Malik Renau, Trey Galloway, and Xavier Johnson. On paper, this team should be well positioned in terms of making the NCAA tournament, and in the conversation for the Big 10 title. Instead, the Hoosiers are 13-9, and well outside the tournament. So what is the problem? Well there’s several problems, the system they play, the contributions from Johnson, and the laziness of the team are all reasons for why the Hoosiers are well out of contention, but if we’re being totally honest, there’s a very obvious problem. I’m not the kind of guy who thinks every coach should be canned because they’re doing badly for one season. Teams have bad seasons from time to time, and it’s perfectly normal. However, when a coach loses his locker room, he’s lost the respect he has gained, and there’s no going back at that point. I’m not in the Indiana locker room, so maybe I’m wrong, but all it takes is watching an Indiana game and you can see the team has no hustle, no motivation. I actually do think Mike Woodson is a good coach as well. He’s not the usual prodigal son, such as Patrick Ewing or Chris Mullin. Sure he didn’t achieve as much as fans wanted with Trayce Jackson Davis, but Indiana was competitive. This season has been different, and it’s not for the better. So which way should Indiana look if they decide to move on from Woodson? Well there’s a lot of options out there. Firstly, the job is massively appealing to a lot of coaches. The contract will make it well worth their time, and the program will be fully behind a coach the boosters believe in, both in NIL and in and fan support. The most obvious name that people are gonna look at is Dusty May at FAU. May just recently signed a new contract, which will make his buyout quite large, but there’s still questions on if the Indiana alum is up for the challenge. May is in 6th season with the Owls, and even though he’s coming right off a Final Four run, May has yet to show that he can have much success outside of last season Cinderella story. Two more names that will surely be brought up are Will Wade and Chris Beard, both of which are basketball exile as of now, but will surely be back at a major job in due time. So what are my thoughts on all of this? Well like I said, I think Coach Woodson has lost the locker room, but I don’t know if that’s necessarily on him. I certainly think it’s too early to judge him off 2/3 of a bad season, but on the flip side, I’m not entirely sure if he can get you back to the promised land. Hell I’m not sure if they can ever make it back at this point. One thing I do know is this; College basketball has the highest highs and the lowest lows, and once you’ve hit rock bottom, it’s hard to get back.

God’s Heart for All
Come to me, all you who are weary. Matthew 11:28
READ Matthew 11:27–30
LISTEN ONLINE
Nine-year-old Dan Gill arrived with his best friend Archie at their classmate’s birthday party. When the mother of the birthday boy saw Archie, however, she refused him entry. “There aren’t enough chairs,” she insisted. Dan offered to sit on the floor to make room for his friend, who was Black, but the mother said no. Dejected, Dan left their presents with her and returned home with Archie, the sting of his friend’s rejection searing his heart.
Now, decades later, Dan is a schoolteacher who keeps one empty chair in his classroom. When students ask why, he explains it’s his reminder to “always have room in the classroom for anyone”.
A heart for all people can be seen in Jesus’ welcoming life: “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest” (Matthew 11:28). This invitation may seem to contradict the “first to the Jew” scope of Jesus’ ministry (Romans 1:16). But the gift of salvation is for all people who place their faith in Jesus. “This is true for everyone who believes,” Paul wrote in his letter to the Romans, “no matter who we are” (3:22 NLT).
We rejoice then at Christ’s invitation to all: “Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls” (Matthew 11:29). For all seeking His rest, His open heart awaits.
By Patricia Raybon
REFLECT & PRAY
What was your situation when you accepted God’s gift of salvation? Who in your life still needs to accept Jesus’ invitation?
Jesus, You called me when others didn’t. Thank You for offering me salvation and love.
Come and rest with Jesus tonight by listening to the Our Daily Bread Evening Meditations podcast
SCRIPTURE INSIGHT
Yokes were wooden frames “placed upon a person’s shoulders in order to make a load or burden easier to carry, by distributing its weight in equal proportions to opposite sides of the body” (William Hendriksen, Matthew). When Jesus speaks of His yoke in Matthew 11:29-30, it’s in contrast to the teaching of the religious leaders whose interpretations and applications were extraneous to the law and burdensome. Christ exposed such leaders saying, “They tie up heavy, cumbersome loads and put them on other people’s shoulders, but they themselves are not willing to lift a finger to move them” (23:4; see also Acts 15:10). Being a believer in Jesus is about being in relationship with the One who gives true rest. He says, “My yoke is easy and my burden is light” (Matthew 11:30).

"i really don't know what your problem is, you hardly know me." frustration slips between each syllable as he watches them with quiet curiosity. although he supposes it's not the greatest achievement to have bad blood with every single one of his exes, he remains convinced that the blame doesn't lie solely at his door, despite what their friends happen to believe. he doesn't really know how he's ended up in this circumstance, blind dating one of his ex's best friends and closest confidantes. it wasn't even in his nature to agree to blind dating, but his friend kian had convinced him it would be a great idea, now he was convinced the exact opposite was true. "--what, do you just mindlessly believe everything she tells you? there's two sides to every story!"

Death steals in upon us, respecting neither young nor old, neither humble or pompous, neither sinner nor saint. It comes inevitably to all. But that does not deprive it of its saddened notes, its deep' regrets, and sometimes its restlessness against the frowns-of-fate. When an old man passes hence, it seems natural. All men say that he has had a good innings; that Father Time has bowled his wicket down only after he has played a great game in life.
But, when youth passes out, we feel differently And when that youth is one who has by his charm of character, his unique skill in some game of the people, won his way into their affections, the wrench is felt, and people wonder why Fate can be so unkind. It is the human way of looking at it. Perhaps Fate fulfills the Shakespearean philosophy: It must be cruel to be kind: thus bad begins, and worse remains behind.
As one witnessed the funeral spectacle when Archie Jackson, the young cricketer, was followed to his grave by his colleagues of the field, and his remains were borne on the shoulders of those who had played with him on that famous tour in England in 1930, one felt that the glow of human feeling that runs through the games of young men and the great game of life is akin. In the games men play and in the game of life there is much in common. Both call for courage, physical and mental. They call for staying power, and for character. And they call for brains.
Those who knew young Jackson speak of him as exemplary in a world, that holds temptation to bonny youth on every side. The same was said of other cherished youngsters in sport who went hence from their colleagues of' the field while on the very threshold of their world-won careers. We may think of Barney Keiran, the Sobraon boy, who gathered in swimming laurels from the fields of the world. We may think of Harry Searle, the Clarence River idol and the artist of the sculls, still fresh in his mantle of world's champion. We may think of Cecil Healy, graceful in form and in mind, who went down in France. Of young Sam Spragg, the gifted forerunner of Dallv Messenger in football. And of Les Darcy, the invincible boxer from Maitland.
Even in passing out from the world's stage, young men of their eminence in sport, and character in life, leave something that may seem intangible, something that may be inexpressible in mere words; something that helps to make better men and women of those who had come into personal contact with them. The memories they leave are, perhaps, as rich in fruitfulness as the lives of the heroes' themselves could have been had they lived on It is a great thought that young men who pass away so early have been able to create thoughts, and by them memories among their friends in sport to make them unforgettable and the better for it. It is inevitable, though it may be against the human grain that-
"All that lives must die Passing through nature to eternity."

Chuck
Tumblr media
As a "nother character", and an unformed one at that, Riverdale's token black kid had his stories drawn by some of Archie's worst artists for their anthology titles. Here it is Gus Lemoine -- who went on to try a black copy of Archie (complete with token white kid), called Fast Willie Jackson. A noble experiment I want to like but -- the writer is lousy and the artist is Gus Lemoine.
Tumblr media
Chic Stone was Bob Bolling and the latter day Harry Lucey's preferred inker. As a penciler he sucked. Though apparently only on Archie. Over to DC and Marvel he turned in exemplary and competent work. And, in the field of comics, professionally speaking if you are going to suck in one spot probably Archie Comics is the place to do so. (I should mention he was the competent enough artist for a series of compelling stories for Archie in the 1980s regarding a school psychiatrist sitting through the Riverdale kids' sessions -- so it was not all bad.)
I think the redrawn version for Chuck's hair is, informally, the "Barack Obama". The decision to leave the lines on the afro for the first one is... Off putting and weird.
