Okay so niffty actually has a LOT behind her design lmao like imma be fr

So first, colors. I know she's inspired off of the 'flying purple people eater' song, so I really wanted purple, but it just wasn't working for me at all. So, instead, I swapped it to blueish-green! Still alien but also very buggy and stands out against the red of hell.

The hole in her chest is both a metaphor for how she is 'heartless' (lmao get it) and also bc she legit died by getting shot when a neighbor decided she was a threat. Also some Junji Ito inspo for that too!!!!

Her single eye is now moreso representative of her tunnel vision, both from her life of obsessing over men and her OCD and how it makes her struggle to function.

Her outfit is based on a 1950s housewife but with a Obi (like the kimono belt) and with cuffs and suspenders that mimick an older timey maid outfit. The skirt is also meant to look vaguely like a flying saucer.

Tye mouth on the back of her head is a physical voice for her intrusive thoughts, constantly telling her horrible things and making her obsessive and paranoid. No one else seems to hear the voice though, making existing a bit of her own personal hell.

So, hear me out here. I know nifty was intended to be Japanese, so I came up w/ a lil smthn. I HC that nifty was raised in Japan, but was raised to idealize and aspire to 1950s American nuclear family moment, so she moved to America, americanized her name, etc etc. So, in hell, she wears outfits reminiscent of her culture, and I bet the mouth on the back of her head only speaks to her in japanese/broken English.

Part of her character arc would be learning to accept both sides of her cultural identity :]

Worked out my idea of the descending rings of Hell in my hashbrown motel rewrite/Hotel Purgatorium!! There’s a transcript under the cut!

I reworked the idea of “sinners only ending up in pride” to be that sinners can end up in other rings, but they get worse and worse as they go down as their crimes in life/punishments get worse. They’re confined to the ring they’re sentenced to and can’t leave, but if a sinner from a higher ring attempts to go down and come back up, they become instantly corrupted and lose their soul as they become a mindless monster. Like how oceanic pressure gives you the bends??? (Also, Most sinners wind up in pride because as it turns out, pride is the root of most of humanity’s sin.)

Pride- 1st Layer

- ruled by Lucifer

- A noisy smoggy cityscape, overcrowded and full of the worst parts of humanity + civilization over the last few centuries. Most souls end up here!

Lust- 2nd Layer

- ruled by Asmodeus

- A “winter wonderland,” but more befitting of “bleak ice kingdom.” Cold, bitter, and only warm within buildings made by Hellborns. Very Blustery. Pun not intended.

Gluttony- 3rd Layer

- ruled by Beelzebub

- An oppressively humid, sticky rainforest infested with insects and torrential hot rain.

Greed- 4th Layer

- ruled by Mammon

- Rocky, Craggy, Rough. A barren mountainous “mining town” where nothing grows and shiny minerals aplenty drive sinners mad.

Envy- 5th Layer

- ruled by Leviathan

- The snow runoff from Lust is melted down into a deep dark pressured ocean with bioluminescent and unusual hellborns.

Sloth- 6th Layer

- ruled by Belphegor

- Made of obsidian, fungus and quicksand. Everything moves slowly, fog lines the streets. Sinners float along the tar rivers.

Wrath- 7th layer

- ruled by Satan

- The typical idea of hell- full of fire and lava and hate. This is the worst place you can end up.

It would be such a interesting topic of how sinners are actually the ones at the bottom of the hierarchy. They’re overlooked, ignored, and aren’t treated as citizens because… They aren’t. Humanity was created to be perfect, with no sin or wickedness upon them, they weren’t created nor born for Hell because it is not a realm meant for them. Heaven is.

So in every hellborn’s eyes, humans are invading their society, their realm, and are trying to add what they think Hell is from the beliefs they held when they were still alive. Sinners and winners alike think that Hell is supposed to be a tortured place for every being that lives there.

It is not, at least, not until sinners begin to invade every inch of hell, trying to change it to their hearts content, to make themselves look big and powerful. Hellborns hate sinners, royal hellborns don’t even bother to acknowledge sinners, seeing them as the lowest of low. The hatred goes even more when the development of “overlords” begin. No one but sinners themselves take it seriously. Why should they? Every ruler in each ring owns the souls of their citizens, something that sinners cannot much.

So in conclusion, sinners don’t know anything about how Hell actually works, neither does Heaven because, y’know, why would they bother learning how hell’s society works?? I just think that the way Hell is described in the perspective of humanity wouldn’t actually be true because the afterlife’s society would develop quite different then how humans developed their societies.

Fuck canon. This is my new canon now. Also, does anyone else agree that Heaven gives off big dystopia vibes??? Because that’s what I’m getting from them.

anywho. the first man was not white. in my rewrite(Happy Hostel) he acts more covert in his assholery because subtlety is A Concept. he plays the part of a loving husband and father whilst exterminating sinners yearly. he pretends to help Charlie with her ideas but is practically bullshitting his way through. he’s bitter that his first sons were hurt by Lucifer, and wants to make all of Hell pay for it. despite Cain literally living there

Utterly terrified to post this, but Alastor redesign!

- Removed his deer theme, and changed it to an owl due to the fact that. As a native person, I personally felt uncomfortable by the wend*go theming- would not feel comfortable doing that.

- alongside, an owl (otus scops) to be exact would fit Alastor just the same as owls are very vocal and alongside they are birds of prey. Hunters of the night, stalkers, etc.

- And also as a black person, was a tad confused when he had little to no creole features? Of course, my brothers and sisters come in all different colors and sizes, but the problem is… In media, we need to be represented and seen instead of hidden by tweets.

- i also gave him sepia colors instead of red for variety :)

- wanted to make it look like he cannot LIVE without a radio as well !!

Ever since their first meeting, Charlie has held Vaggie in high regard. She was the first 'sinner' she had ever officially met, and the first true 'friend' the princess ever had. Strong, organized, determined, a person you can rely on when you're hyperactive, messy, confused, frustrated... lonely... ↓↓↓

Charlie is the ideas person, the one with both wonder and will, and Vaggie is the manager, helping shape the lengthy schemes into direct actions. Sometimes she wonders how she would've gotten this far in her plan without her girlfriend's help.

Wait- GIRLFRIEND!? W-well y-yes, they are both girls a-and they are certainly friends!! Yes!!! Definitely no weird bubbly feeling she can't explain because she's never been in love before!!! LOVE!?!? Uhh y-yeah, of course she loves her best friend!!! Her bestest best friend that she loves and wants to remain friends with forever-- n-nothing more, *sob* y-yeah DEFINITELY!!!

✨🍎Charlie + Angel🕸️🩷

Charlie has been very sheltered her entire life, so to live with one as familiar with hell life as Angel is a great opportunity to learn more about her subjects! And he is proving to be a great teacher! She didn't know a lot about his profession, never had experience dealing with drunk people, nor has she ever witnessed an addict's creativity in finding new stash locations, but after a week with him? Got pretty familiar.

Hes unfiltered and always lets her know whenever he's unhappy with something, which makes reading and accommodating him so much easier! She's often wrong in her readings, but slowly realizes it's because Angel as a person is much more complex than she ever thought possible.

Overtime, she stops looking at him as a subject of study, but as a person she has genuinely bonded with, and they develop an older brother - younger sister dynamic. Soon he also softens a bit and starts teaching her social cues and sinner etiquette so she can learn to navigate her people and their struggles.

✨🍎Charlie + Alastor 🦌🥩

Alastor is a trickster whose reputation precedes him, to the point even the shut-in princess knows to be cautious of him. Completely unpredictable, he is quiet and reserved on some days, and the most talkative extrovert on others, which makes getting him to help or even getting in contact with him absolute hell.

His suggestions are always either violent or absurd, but there is always a pinch of truth to them that she has to sift through and find. Something about him tells her that he's really guiding her on the right path, but something else urges her to be careful.

Another thing that surprised her about him, is that apparently that old-school gentleman loves pranks. He has certainly shown her and the hotel residents so multiple times. And she, of course, lovely gullible she, is his favorite target.

Charlie and her dad... aren't close. It was better when her mother was still around, but now she hardly considers him family. He is the one funding her endeavor, but she hates having to rely on him or ask him for help, mostly because he would always dismiss her with a laugh and start talking about his duck projects or whatever.

She knows it's his curse, she knows he would never truly empathize with her or give her the time of day because of his sin, but she still hates him for it. She hates how he never treats her seriously, she hates when he gives her estimations of when her program would fail, she hates him laughing at her plans like they were children's drawings. She hates him.

... Except she doesn't. She can't really bring herself to. He seems to be trying this time around. Really trying. Almost like hes... fighting himself. If she's already trying to redeem sinners... would it really be a stretch for her to try and redeem the devil? Would she succeed...?

Woah! I'm cooking up so many interesting dynamics I would love to explore in the future! Too bad I will probably be real busy till next year probably. But by my calculations season 2 would release around that time sooo! >w<

hazbin hotel redesigns wooooooooo

okay so. i'm gonna discuss my thoughts about them n shit, putting under a readmore bc it's gonna get long and rambley. sorry in advance for the shit formatting, i'm on mobile </3

just some general shit about how i would rewrite it. i think the premise of redeeming sinners is entertaining but is executed horribly. i also am a fan of the "heaven isn't great either" idea but again, executed horribly. i'd make the hierarchy of angels more accurate because it's cool as hell and i have autism about it. the characters from hell would swear still (albeit not as much), but the angels would outright refuse to swear or make vulgar jokes ever. this would be partially to further the gap between heaven and hell and make the differences more stark.

hell would also be more like dante's inferno (again because i think its cool). the ars goetia would get a full redesign and would be more prevalent in demonic society.

now for the characters!

VAGGIE VALTIEL:

starting off with vaggie, or Valtiel as i've renamed her because let's be honest her original name sucks. Valtiel (Val for short) was an aspiring power angel who wanted to be an exorcist. she looked up to lute and thought the idea of killing demons was really cool and badass. however when she actually was on the field for the first time she discovered how awful this actually was. she tried to help a few demons but lute figured it out and felled her right then and there. the rest of her story is relatively the same. personality wise she's more stoic and less prone to all-out aggression. she still get angry, sure, but it's in a quieter and more menacing way. you DO NOT want to fuck with Valtiel.

CHARLIE:

next up is charlie! i had two ideas for her. the first one (unsettling drawing) has her as a mannequin/doll type demon. lucifer and/or lilith was unable to conceive and as such they built a kid from scratch. she's overall similar to og charlie personality wise, very kind and cheerful despite her unsettling appearance. she struggles with empathy sometimes but really does mean well. her motive for rehabilitating sinners is so they get to see their family again. being able to see heaven from where they are in hell must make them sad, so she wants to help make them happy again!

the second idea for charlie has her as an angel. specifically i casted her as a dominion angel due to their reputation as holy judges. she was once a demon but has been rehabilitated and has risen into angelhood! she now wants to help her former kin do the same and redeem themselves in heaven's gaze. again, similar cheery personality, but a bit more prudish in this rendition

tangent time!

as a side tangent, valtiel and charlie would have a different relationship in this rewrite. their relationship felt shoehorned in in the original show, like it was just there for the hell of it. we didn't see much development between them and it just felt kinda bland. so in my rewrite, charlie and valtiel are amiable exes. they tried dating when valtiel first fell (when charlie was still a demon in the charlie-angel version) but realized their feelings for each other were much more platonic than romantic. they ended things off on good terms, deciding they were much better as friends. they are still besties to this day! later charlie ends up with emily (or 'ellie' as i plan to rename her)

Alastor:

note: i made alastor mixed-race, which could be seen as bad by some due to vivzie saying he's black. however, as many have pointed out, he has no ethnic features whatsoever and i honestly wouldn't be surprised if she said that just to get away with using voodoo symbols (a closed religion) in his imagery/design. like viv, i am incredibly white and have little to no knowledge of voodoo, and even if i did i would not use it for something like this anyways due to the stigma the religion already has and (again) it being a closed practice. as such i removed it from his concept altogether, but made him mixed race (white passing) because.. why not i guess, i forgor my actual reasoning

with that being said...

alastor is by far my favorite of the redesigns and i'm honestly tempted to turn him into a legally distinct oc. i imagine he's somewhat reserved, along the lines of norman bates albeit a bit more extroverted. during his life he was a serial killer with a day job as a radio announcer. he took pleasure in reporting about his own murders on the radio, but that is eventually what got him caught (ie accidentally letting slip info that wasn't released to the public). as a result he was sentenced to death. upon arriving in hell, he quickly rose through the ranks to borderline overlord status and is a feared presence by demons and sinners alike. why is he bothering to assist in the hotel project? who knows... his motives are a mystery, like the rest of what he does

(he isn't actually alastair crowley i just thought the naming convention was ironic. however he may have also dabbled with satanic magic in lifetime..)

Angel Dust:

TW: brief discussion of SA

this is definitely my second favorite redesign. i loooove insect themes and wanted to do more than just Extra Arms, so he now has fucked up legs and a lot of eyes too! story-wise, angel used to be a criminal mastermind, hated by both the mafia and the feds. he was a gentleman thief, arranging massive heists under the cover of night while also partaking in the occasional drag show. he ended up a cocaine addict later in life, which caused his work to become sloppier. eventually he was killed in a heist gone wrong, specifically shot by the police.

i'm not gonna go too in-depth on the SA part of his story, but he is hypersexual due to being assaulted in both his life and afterlife. it would be something he'd be working on in the rewrite. his reason for coming to the hotel in the first place may have even been for help with this trauma. underneath his sultry exterior is a broken guy who really just needs someone to care about him for who he really is and not for what his body can do.

LUTE:

so lute and adam are some of the characters i have the most gripes about. the biggest one being why viv chose adam as the leader of the exorcists in the first place. if she wants a biblical figure tied to demon killing, Archangel Michael is RIGHT THERE, aka the one destined to kill satan during the events of Revelations. if she wants the first human to die, that would be Abel, not Adam. and i kinda doubt abel would want to do the stuff that HH!adam has been doing. if she wants an angel related to torture, Dumah is her guy! an angel that rules over wicked souls and tortures sinners every day except sabbath. so many better options...

with that out of the way, Lute is still the lieutenant of the exorcist, who are a specially chosen group of powers sent to purge hell once a year. think navy seals. she's pretty much the same as in the show, albeit more muscular and visually different from other exorcists (seriously why do they all look exactly the same?????) she's a very repressed lesbian who hasn't had time to work on that due to her duties

i also redesigned the exorcist uniform/armor because those LED purge masks are fugly as hell and their clothes don't even look remotely like armor.

Adam + Final Thoughts

i did start a redesign of adam but got bored of it. regardless, i think he'd be the head of C.H.E.R.U.B. instead of the exorcists. he doesn't want his children to make the same mistakes he and eve did, so together they started C.H.E.R.U.B. to help lost souls stay out of hell

final thoughts uhhhh i'm tired. show sucks, it had so much potential but viv ruined it by being a shitty writer and an even shittier person. the designs are fine i guess but they all look exactly the same and are in desperate need of variety. the humor is dogshit, saying dick and balls and penis over and over and over again doesn't make it any funnier than the first three times you made that joke. anyways that's it, i hope you liked my inane ramblings. gonna go vanish for another forty years or so, adios

Meet Carmilla Carmine🩰🦢

Happy Mother’s Day! For today’s occasion, I figure it’d be fitting to share my version of one of Hazbin’s bigger mother figures, aswell as the elegant ballerina, no nonsense CEO of Carmine Corp, Carmilla Carmine!

Was def pushing for a mix of black swan along with Tatiana vibes from No Straight Roads. Also got inspo from ballerina characters like RWBY Weiss, SU Pearl along with high power gals like Washimi from Aggretsuko & Miranda Priestly, Devil wears Prada.

Made her red a deeper more crimson red 🩸 Gave the more pinkish reds to Rosie 🥀🌹

Gave her a classic ballerina bun instead of her horn hair. Also lightened her highlights to silver instead of black, as well as added a spiky hair decoration.

Gave her a long business coat jacket instead of her tunic dress(I’m not 100% sure what it’s suppose to be).

Replaced her hoops with giant red diamond studs ♦️ added matching chest jewelry as well.

Angelic swan mask.

Angelic steel leotard plating(for protection but still keeping her movement freely)

Angelic finger gauntlets. Also changed her gloves to black & changed the style(I’m not 100% sure if she’s wearing gloves or if her hands r jsut a different color)

Battle scars.

Sharper chin & cheekbones.

Changed her skin colouring to slightly warmer shade!

Made her more bottom heavy, show her biggest strength’s within her legs. Also made her chest a bit broader too

Made her eyes darker red with red irises. Also gave her dark gray eyeshadow.

Made her ballet slippers more silver with highlight shine! ✨ 🩰

As I’m writing Angel Dust’s backstory, I’m just more and more dumbfounded how Viv just did not write these characters to talk like they’re from their time period. Looking at old slang is so fun.

Yall started interacting with my alastor design again so I got the urge to fix up the design for my warm up 😩 imma yap abt the design under the cut so feel free to see that⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️

ALSO pls don't yap abt how u hate/love Vivzie, I do not care 🙏 I pinky promise you every person ever is a shitty person she's just ur bias

OKAY so first. Colors. In my original design I also used greyscale, but for this version I got rid of the red entirely. Eve would neverrr let him match colors with hell, plus I feel that him not having any color makes him a bit more uncanny

For his clothes I went for a 1930s pinstripe suit. While I think the original frill makes his silhouette much more interesting, it isn't very time accurate, and I think Alastor would be very 'frozen in time' with his fashion. So I made it straight and neat, along with the (almost baggy) dress pants of the time. A simple hat too, to hide his... completely exploded head yk

For his demon form, I wanted him to look almost Zombie-ish. His death was getting shot/mauled by hunting dogs, so I incorporated that a TON. His body is falling apart and rotting under him, and while he doesn't bleed, his wounds always look shiny and only partially congealed. Also the lack of organs give him that snatched waist :)

For his head wound, it is kinda a play on 'having his mother's eyes' and the sayings, 'only a face a mother could love'/'not even a face his mother could recognize'. It blinds him and horrifies him, as I HC that Alastor takes extreme pride in his appearance, so the complete gorishness of his hell-form drives him bonkers

Also, his cane is bc his 'deer legs' are more like legs chewed to bits, which also gives him a limp bc of that, which he tries to cover. I think Alastor would Hate any open display of percieved weakness, such as being blind, his limp, or being a fragile rotting body, so he goes to great lengths to hide it (and uses Eve's powers to cover it too)

He would be based off a white tailed deer specifically for markings also :) and he's always polite, doesn't curse, and doesn't engage in pettiness with Vox or Lucifer bc that pisses me off in show. Like doesn't make sense to me idk like what

Alright... Not proud of this one. In kindergarten, in art classes, we were drawing a Gabriel icon and I was told that angels have huge eyes and small mouths because they speak with their gaze, and this image has stayed with me forever.

It always bothered me that having multiple arms for insect characters is a wildly Inconsistent rule.

Was looking at the helluva boss pride art again and im just genuinely so upset about verosika, I know vivzie really likes using bi and pan people as a get out of jail free card so she can just ship them with whoever she feels like, but im mostly disappointed because I was ORIGINALLY impressed because I thought she was holding one of the intersex flags (the pink and blue one I think, I dunno much about the flag but yknow) and then I realised its just the pan flag as highlights in her hair and viv is just like borderline fetishising bi/pan stuff again.

It would’ve been really interesting to have an intersex character in literally any capacity. Idk TMI I guess but as a sex worker who doesn’t really have “regular equipment” it got me excited and then I remembered that vivzie would never include an intersex character or anything more “convoluted” than like the most basic well known sexualities and then like 1 trans side character. Genuinely I don’t think we are ever going to get a main character that has a gender that doesn’t get put into a binary definition. I talk about him so often but literally I think Angel is the closest thing we are ever getting to a main character that has a different sense of gender. If we get a random nonbinary character, awesome! But even then I can’t find the hope in my heart to say it’ll even be portrayed correctly. Viv would have a fucking heart attack if she saw all my labels and genders and flags I have

Im not kidding if a hazbin or helluva character ever had a xenogender of any kind I will actually eat my fucking pants. Till then heres all my fucking redesigns and their flags (btw like half of these characters have NO idea what a xenogender is, its just like if they did theyd be like “oh yeah I feel like that too”)
