strong opinions, stronger arms [m]
𓍊𓋼𓍊𓋼𓍊 stardew valley : alex x reader (vagina, fem!pronouns)
𓍊𓋼𓍊𓋼𓍊 Perhaps Alex's reign as the town's resident neutral guy is over because he realizes that he has pretty strong opinions about three things: gridball, salmon dinner, and you.
𓍊𓋼𓍊𓋼𓍊 smut (minors dni), fluff, established relationship (marriage), porn what plot, ok maybe porn with some feelings and an iota of plot, reader is farmer, reader is shorter, vaginal fingering, making out, couch sex, cross-posted on ao3 | 4.0k words
𓍊𓋼𓍊𓋼𓍊 despite having ideas for so many alex fics, I have never done his route! I really want to, though. he seems like a sweet guy who has a lot of room to grow...and I'm discovering how much I like athletes. hope you enjoy this! and reblog if you liked :)
One year, Alex was voted the least picky person in Pelican Town, though he wasn't sure if it mattered much when the only voters were Haley and Emily after a late night at the Saloon. Still, when Emily knocked on his door the next day and presented him with an embroidered ribbon, something she had whipped up in a few hours, he accepted it graciously and offered to hang it on his wall.
"Who was the competition?" he asked as he rummaged through the closet for a spare frame.
"Everyone, I guess," replied Emily, hands clasped behind her back as she took in the photos on the hallway walls. She hadn't been in George and Evelyn's house since she was a kid, back when she and her sister found themselves alone and unsure of how to take care of themselves.
Haley had been eliminated quickly. She admitted that she had a long list of dislikes and wasn't afraid of making her disgust known. On the opposite end of the spectrum was someone like Linus who didn't hate anything. The town's doctor had landed somewhere in the middle.
"Dr. Harvey has a clear sense of what he likes and dislikes," explained Emily, interrupting her words to give a satisfied clap when Alex found a perfect sized frame. They headed back to his room. "You're his opposite. You're so neutral about everything."
He gave a short laugh. "Sounds like Linus should've gotten the award."
"Yes, but I have work today and the mountains are far." She patted him on the shoulder once he mounted the frame. "Congratulations again, Alex!"
.
.
.
Several seasons have passed since that day, but whenever Alex sees Emily's ribbon between his athletic awards, her words come back to him. You're so neutral about everything. He never thought about it like that, though he does consider himself an easygoing person. It's probably due to the fact that he doesn't have strong opinions, but when someone spend their entire childhood tiptoeing the line and trying to stay in people's good graces, that meekness is hard to undo.
It took years for Evelyn to coax him out of it, finally hitting the jackpot when she cooked a salmon dinner and watched his eyes light up at the first bite. Most inquiries of What do you think about this? got a halfhearted shrug, a small attempt at a smile, and a quick scan of the asker's expression—what should Alex think about it? Desperate to know the right answer, he always looked outwards, not in. It's not the greatest habit, but he tries—
"Hey, man, don't think too hard about it." Shane elbows him, knocking him out of his thoughts. "It was a dumb question. You want a drink?"
Over their shared box of pretzels, Shane offers Alex an unlabelled, uncorked bottle. Alex glances down at it, hesitant.
"Thanks, but sorry, I don't...I don't drink."
"It's just sparkling apple cider," Shane says with an even tone.
Belatedly, Alex remembers the changes that Shane's trying to make in life and mentally kicks himself for jumping to conclusions.
"Pierre was having a sale, and the kids love these. You don't like cider or something?"
"I'm okay with it." Neutral, he realizes again. He takes the bottle. "I mean, I like it. Thanks."
If someone told Alex a year ago that he'd be here—sitting in Cindersap Forest near midnight, making small talk with one of the town's resident grouches, dangling his legs off the pond's dock as he sipped from a giant bottle—he would have laughed in their face and asked if they took a gridball to the head. But it's happening, and Alex finds himself enjoying the company.
He savors the carbonated taste on his tongue and takes in a lungful of the crisp night air, thinking back to when he first came to the valley. Back then, he used to sneak out of his grandparents' house, unsettled by Evelyn's hovering and George's night-time snoring. He would hang out by Dusty's pen or on the nearby bridge, leaning as far as he could over the edge. Something about staring at his reflection, accompanied by the steady sound of crickets and cicadas, cleared his mind. It still does.
"Sorry," Shane says after a bit of silence. "It was an unfair question."
"It's cool, man."
"You two dated for a while, but you did just get married, so I guess I can't really ask if you're a tits or an ass kind of guy—"
Alex makes a strangled noise in the back of his throat, face flushing once again.
"—because you'll probably say something sappy, like I like everything about her. You seem like that kind of person."
"W-well, that's not really something people think about. Do you have an opinion?"
"Of course. I'm an ass guy," replies Shane without missing a beat. "Duh. Why do you think I almost went pro in gridball?"
"Wait, what?"
Shane takes another swig from his own bottle to empty it, clears his throat, and slaps his hands on his lap like he didn't just drop two bombshells on Alex's psyche. Then he makes a comment about how it's getting late. He needs to go to bed—there's always an early morning when you live on a ranch, after all—and Alex's girlfriend...no, wife is likely wondering where he is. By the time Alex scrambles to his feet, Shane is already back on land and waving. He pauses before calling out.
"Mullner! This was, uh, this was nice. Now that we're neighbors, maybe we can do this more often. You're not too bad."
"Yeah, of course," Alex replies, still dazed. "Get home safe."
"Yeah, you too."
With all the confidence of someone who's spent nearly a decade on this side of town, Shane walks away and disappears into the dark path, hands stuffed into the pockets of his navy hoodie, a plastic bag swinging from his wrist. Alex still doesn't know what to make of the guy, previously known to him as the bitter JojaMart employee who swears every time he passes George and Evelyn's house off-shift, but you're friends with the guy and any friend of yours can be a friend of Alex's, he supposes.
Alex slips on the glow ring you gave him and squints as the area around him suddenly illuminates.
The trek home doesn't take too long. During his morning jogs, he likes to do a lap around Cindersap Forest, both to get used to the area and to help you with foraging, and it's paid off: he no longer struggles to find the signpost that points between your farm and Marnie's ranch. The first time he got lost, he had to knock on Leah's door, cracking an awkward joke while she blinked the sleep out of her eyes. She walked him home in her pajamas. With a smile at the time, yes, but she did tell him to either carry a map or stop the night-time wanderings.
You must've gone to bed early. He slips off his sneakers at the door and gives your dog a good night ear scratch. Other than the porch light and the crackling fireplace, the house is dark, and he stumbles through his night routine before slipping under the covers with you. You stir once he loops an arm around your waist.
"Just me, babe," he murmurs. "Go back to sleep."
But you turn around to face him, nestling one hand under your cheek, the other on his chest. "How was hanging out with Shane?" you ask, voice sluggish.
"Good." He pauses. "Really good, actually. He gave me some advice about making the chickens more comfortable. Some tricks to keep hay through the winter, too. Oh! I heard he did sports before, but did you know he was a gridball player?"
You hum your confirmation. "Varsity starter and nearly got signed until, y'know, life happened."
Alex whistles lowly. "Wow. Do you think he'll want to try coaching some time?"
"Maybe. Things are looking up for him now, but he might want to focus on his family for the time being."
You cut yourself off with a yawn, and he smiles, leaning over to kiss your forehead.
"G'night," he whispers, squeezing you once. You only grunt, too tired to reply.
.
.
.
As usual, you're already out of bed by the time Alex wakes up. Both of you are early birds, but you like to rise at the hellish hour of six, when the sun is just peeking over the horizon, while he gets up at the much more reasonable hour of seven. Seven-thirty, if he's feeling particularly worn out. This difference is better for him anyway—he'd rather you not find out about his morning issue and the embarrassing state he often finds himself in these days.
Groaning, he rolls over onto his stomach and wills his little friend to settle down because he hears you rummaging in the kitchen, probably waiting on him for breakfast. But bad idea—now his face is buried in your pillow, and your smell makes his stomach tighten.
This should be a good sign. It means that he's a healthy young man and madly in love with his wife—and who doesn't want that? But damn, if it isn't inconvenient. You’ve slept together before, of course. Plenty of times. He just doesn’t want you to worry about his high libido; you’re a busy person, and he’s perfectly capable of taking care of himself. He pushes off the bed and shuffles to the bathroom, clutching a towel and change of clothes over his problem.
"You can eat without me!" he calls down the stairs. "I'm going to take a shower."
In the bathroom that's filled with more of your scent—another bright idea. He yanks the temperature handle all the way to the right, and the water that spurts from the shower head is absolutely glacial, leaving his teeth chattering and his body shivering, but at least the flush beneath his skin is gone. He can think straight again.
When he steps out of the shower and roughly dries himself, refreshed, there's a knock at the door.
"Your food's on the table," you tell him. "I'm going to change and head out to pick salmonberries. Totally forgot that they're in season, so I already missed a day."
"Do you want me to come help?"
"Mhm, it's alright. Sandy asked for a fire crystal, so I might spend the day in the desert and get more iridium ore. I also saw your schedule on the fridge; today's arm day for you." There's a smile in your voice as you remind him, "That's your favorite."
You disappear into the bedroom to change, and he enters the kitchen to find a partially complete breakfast waiting for him: a stack of fresh pancakes, two fried eggs, a tall glass of milk. In the toaster oven, two hashbrowns are crisping. It's all perfect for a day of working out, and as he sits down to wait for the hashbrowns, Alex thinks not for the first time how he has the best partner in the entire valley.
Just as the toaster oven dings, he hears you skipping down the stairs, humming a catchy tune from the Saloon's new jukebox. When you round the corner of the living room, a wide wicker basket swinging from your elbow, he sees what you're wearing and chokes on air. He reaches for the milk to clear it. He can't lift his slackened jaw, and you're blissfully unaware.
And when you bend down to re-tie your sneakers? Game over.
"Fuck, your ass looks great," slips out before he can stop it.
You pause, then straighten. "You think so?" you ask, doing a little spin in the front hall.
You think it's a regular compliment. He's struggling to breathe with how fast he popped a boner. You look down at your outfit, clearly not seeing what he's seeing. Or rather, not seeing things the way he's seeing them.
"The leggings are from Em! She’s testing a new design, and I'm helping with feedback." You twist in front of the hallway mirror, admiring your legs. "I love the feel of them."
He's loving a lot more than the supposed feel of them.
Note to self, Alex thinks, faintly registering the scrape of his chair against kitchen tiles as he rushes to his feet, thank Emily later. He crosses the distance in quick, long strides and sidles up to you in the mirror, hands landing on your hips. If he were to look at his reflection over your shoulder, he'd see the gentleness of his gaze and how a soft smile grows on your face in return, but at the moment, he's having a hard time focusing on something other than the curves of your body.
"Well, you’ve answered a question for me this morning."
"Oh? What question?"
"Last night, Shane asked me if I'm a tits or an ass kind of guy," he says, not missing your sharp intake of realization. "I can tell him that I have my answer now."
Instead of getting shy as you might have a year ago, you grin, plant your ass on his straining cock, and grind slow circles that have him grasping at fraying self-control. He's flushed down to his chest, and yeah, he definitely has the best partner in the valley. His fingers dig into your skin, stilling you.
"So are you going to kiss me yet," you ask, raising your eyebrows, "or do I have to earn it?"
Cheeky. But he loves you all the more for it. He dips his head down to yours, and despite the blood pounding in his ears, his kiss is soft. Slow. Still riding the high of newlywed bliss, he likes to savor the sensation of cherishing you, likes to remind you of his vows through his touch.
But then you open your mouth, tongue prodding at the seam of his lips, and he groans, tilting to let you in. He turns you in his arms to press you up against the front door, careful to avoid the handle. You drag your hands along his arms and up his chest before twisting your fingers into his hair, tugging exactly how he likes it. His own hands wander down, kneading your ass, and when he pinches it, your surprised yelp morphs into a moan as he wedges a thigh between yours.
“You drive me insane,” he murmurs, pulling back to catch his breath. You look fantastic like this: pupils blown wide, lips swollen, gaze thoroughly captivated by him. He can’t help teasing, “I thought you were planning to pick salmonberries.”
“I already missed one day,” you reply, raising your chin. “What’s one more?”
He laughs—because even with his addled brain, he can’t get over how cute you are. Your playful expression will melt away soon enough, though.
Your top comes off with his help, falling to the floor alongside his own shirt, and though he normally likes taking his time working you up, he trails his knuckles up your spine and unclasps your bra right after, the motion smooth. It hangs loose off your chest, simply a suggestion of modesty.
The leggings are harder to remove. That’s already a point off in his books. He crouches to peel them from your legs with patience—a frustrating amount of patience, judging by your displeased huffs—but he appeases you by kissing down your exposed thighs and burying his face between them once the leggings are kicked away.
You let out a flutter of a sigh when he leaves a lingering kiss against the waistband of your underwear.
“You really are so beautiful,” he says, resting his cheek against your skin. He looks up at you through his lashes. Puppy dog eyes, you once called them. The most convincing in the valley. He doesn’t fight when you pull him back up, voice reverent as he repeats, “So, so beautiful.”
“Alex—”
“I’m serious.”
He takes your hand and flattens your palm over his heart so you can feel how fast it’s beating, threatening to burst out of his ribs. “You make me the luckiest person in the world.”
He watches as your gaze softens with adoration, certain that his did the same. This is the kind of love he’s been waiting his whole life for: unconditional, passionate, fulfilling. You give a small hum of contentment before kissing his sternum, and he almost feels sorry for how hard he’s about to take you.
But first.
His knuckles ghost across your chest. Only the lightest touch, and they’re already pebbling, waiting for more. His nose traces down the side of your face, along the column of your neck, and stops at your shoulder where he inhales your familiar scent. His kisses are light, fleeting, as he relishes the whimpers of his name on your lips. One hand rolls your nipples between his fingers with the occasional tug, and the other rubs circles into the small of your back, urging your hips into his. He makes sure that you feel the way his cock strains against his sweatpants. Then he subtly rolls his hips, and you can’t help the shudder that runs down your spine.
“Ah, damn,” you breathe out next to his ear, then angle your head for a messy, open-mouthed kiss.
Damn, indeed.
You clasp your hands around his neck, keeping him to you, and honestly, if Alex had to pass out from lack of oxygen, this wasn’t a bad way to go.
He moves his hand from your back to your front, sliding past the waistband of your underwear. He gathers your arousal on his finger and, without warning, sinks it into your core. Your body gives in easily, but your hips still buck at the feeling.
“Fuck, fuck.” You throw your head back, bumping it against the front door.
“I will in a second,” he promises, smiling. “Be patient.”
You’ve never been very good at that. He helps you turn around, and once you brace your forearms on the entryway cabinet, he sets out in earnest, pumping his finger in and out with ease.
“One more,” you grit out, laying your forehead on crossed arms.
He doesn’t say anything, just bites back a moan as he adds another finger and watches as your cunt takes him to the knuckle. He wishes he could see the expression on your face as you grind down on his hand, setting your own stuttering pace. He loops an arm around your waist and catches you when he suddenly adds a third finger between your folds, your knees buckling with a cry.
“You’re taking them so well,” Alex reassures you.
Once you find your footing again, he flattens his palm on your sternum and pushes you against his chest. Your shuddering breaths hitch at the change in angle; his fingers are on the thicker side, and you feel every inch of the stretch.
“You used to be so tight, crying about how big I am, but look at you now,” he murmurs, tracing the shell of your ear with his tongue. “Asking for two fingers and already taking a third. You can’t be satisfied with just this, right?”
“N-no, ahh, still want you to fill me up—”
“I thought so. This isn’t enough for you. You like to be dicked down so good you can’t remember your name, hmm?” he coos. “You’re lucky you live far from town. Doing this by the front door—what if someone hears you?”
You clench at the suggestion, and he files that reaction away for later because your hands clamp down on his wrist.
“I’m s’close, please, Alex, please—”
“Since you asked so nicely,” he hums. Kissing down the column of your throat, he pistons his fingers until he feels the telltale signs of your building orgasm, the convulsing of your walls, and when you release with a gasp, he slows, letting you ride it out until you melt away from his hold. Even though his cock is painfully hard and straining against his sweats, he still sweeps your hair from your face, asking, “Do you want to take a minute? I can get you some water.”
“It’s okay.”
Smiling, you take his hand and raise it to your mouth. You start with kitten licks before you fully suck on his fingers, eyes fluttering up to meet his darkened gaze, and when he kisses you after, tasting you on your own tongue has him counting his lucky stars again.
With a grunt, he grips the back of your thighs and lifts you, nudging your legs around his waist. You scramble for purchase on his shoulders, nails digging into flexed muscles.
“Is this what you had in mind for arm day?” you laugh as he walks over to the couch.
“No, but this is better.”
He bends you over the side of the couch, offering a throw pillow that you hug to your chest with an amused expression. You glance back at him, impishly wiggling your ass as if your position wasn't enough of an invitation.
"What a temptress," he mutters.
He kneads your bottom with one hand, giving it a quick pinch that has you giggling into the cushions, before easing his cock out of his sweatpants. The fabric does nothing to hide the shape of his erection—he's caught you looking meaningfully at it more than once whenever he wears them—but they've never felt as erotic as now.
If he had the patience, he'd tease you with it. Slap his shaft against your wet folds, drag his length along your arousal, rub the tip against your exposed clit. But he has all the time in the world because you're married now. He can do all of that another day.
He slides his head along your opening before pushing in inch by inch, moaning unabashedly as he splits you in half. You bury your face into the pillow, whimpering. It's always a bit of a tight fit, even when he makes sure to prep you.
"Let me know when I can move," he manages. You trail your foot up his leg, and that's enough for him to start pounding into you.
It's mesmerizing to see how your ass bounces against his hips. He can't believe he didn't do this sooner. Gripping at your waist, he sets the pace, driving into you until you're panting, muffling your sounds with the couch. It doesn't take long for him to make you snap again.
.
.
.
You don’t remember how many orgasms he’s coaxed from your body at this point. Once by the door, at least twice on the couch, a few more in bed—you remember slipping in and out of a sleepy haze at the tail end of it. You pull the blanket up to your chin with a content giggle.
In the other room, you hear the shower run.
(“You should get cleaned up,” Alex insisted, rubbing your ankles. “I’ll help you bathe.”
“I have a feeling that if I go with you into that bathroom, I’ll need another shower once you’re done with me.”
He shot you a lopsided grin. “Fair. I’ll clean up first and then run a bath for you?” He glanced out the window. “The sprinklers and automatic feeders should’ve taken care of the farm today, but I’ll check just in case.”
“Mhm.”
“And I’ll make...er, lunch. Take a nap if you want to.” He kissed the top of your head. He'd already wiped you down with a warm cloth. “I’ll be back.”)
Leaning over to the phone on your bedside, you quickly dial your partner-in-crime. The phone rings twice before her familiar sing-song Hello? come through. You don’t even need to waste time on formalities.
“I owe you big time,” you say, already making mental plans to mine a complete gem set. You always knew that Alex was holding back, but even with your subtle hints, he was too much a gentleman to really take you.
Until today.
“You were right, Em—getting Shane to help was the right move.”

Get to know your mutuals!
Tagged by: @tulinokkaelain <3!
What’s the origin of your username?: My username is a reference to the Switchblade Symphony song Dollhouse "In the attic is where I'll hide" is also a reference to that song.
OTP(s) + ship name: Marius/Armand if that wasn't obvious lol, they're the best and I'm a Marimand truther.
Favorite color: Black, I also like purple, black, and red paired together.
Song stuck in your head: I guess Dollhouse cause I was just thinking about it.
Weirdest habit/trait: Like stimming and general autism spectrum stuff, like when I'm sitting in a chair my legs need to be hiked up to my chest to feel comfortable like El from Deathnote lol
Hobbies: Vampires lol, idk I really need to get back into some of my old hobbies cause I feel like I don't so anything anymore :/ But I am interested in the Goth subculture, historical fashion, and yes vampires lol. I want to get back into drawing and music.
If you work, what’s your profession?: Don't have a degree yet but I work at a gift boutique.
If you could have any job you wish, what would it be?: When I was little I wanted to be a truck driver lol, I also was trying to pursue a degree in animation which I still love, but I one, don't think I have the art skills necessary, and two, think that profession is just getting more and more hellish for workers. So I still don't know what I want to do.
Something you’re good at: I honestly don't think I'm good at anything I really don't know. 😭
Something you hate: Cognitive Dysfunction and the downsides of ADHD. 😵💫
Something you collect: Plushies!! I love Jellycats we sell them at my work, and I have fallen hook line and sinker for the craze, I love the Halloween ones so much! I bought two of them as a birthday present to myself lol. Also I collect art books, I have the WolfWalkers and Adventure Time art books, and Gorillaz Rise of the Ogre (not really and artbook but I consider it one) I also collect gothic clothing if that counts? I have two thrifted pieces of Tripp and I want to further my corset collection. Dark alternative clothing is valuable to me, so I see as more of a collection than just a regular wardrobe. I would love to start collecting dolls definitely Living Dead Dolls. but any old vintage dolls are cool to me.
Something you forget: Anytime I'm doing a task and I get distracted from it for a second, I swear it's like I forget everything I was doing.
What’s your love language?: I don't like the love language thing cause it's fake, but if I had to choose, I would say quality time.
Favorite movie/show: Hmmm, I feel like I always forget about all the movies I like when asked 🫠 Nosferatu really blew me away. Interview with the Vampire (the 90s film!!) of course, probably the first vampire film for adults I ever saw. All time classics to me are Cartoon Saloon's Irish mythology trilogy of animated films, Aventure Time also is a show that basically raised me lol, it was such a formative piece of media to my child brain, same with Over the Garden Wall. I feel like I'm missing a lot of stuff I love but I can never remember when asked. 😭 There's so many films I haven't seen that I know I would love so that's also the thing.
Favorite food: Burgers and fries, sushi, and Mexican definitely my go tos.
Favorite animal: Bats! I love owls too but bats #1.
What were you like as a child?: Autistic 😐 like either really quite or on the verge of a meltdown with no chill. 😭
Favorite subject at school: Probably world history or English.
Least favorite subject: My nemesis math.
What’s your best character trait?: I think I'm a nice person, I genuinely love to know people's stories and make their day better even if I'm socially awkward.
What’s your worst character trait?: I think I can be selfish and way too addicted to personal comforts, if I was a deadly sin I would be sloth personified lol.
If you could travel in time, who would you like to meet: Hmm idk who I would want to meet per say but time traveling into the past seems like the coolest thing ever, I mean just to visit of course I know the past was shitty for most people. But it would be so cool to learn about the past by actually going there.

He's a, a good time cowboy Casanova Leaning up against the record machine He looks like a cool drink of water, but he's candy-coated misery
Ironically despite both biological parents being along the aro-ace spectrum I think Wrangler definitely grows into a bit of a serial romantic - at least at the start of adulthood - it's partly due to the new found freedom and being out from under Spinner's thumb and part of it is a more genuine curiosity of course, he never really had many talks about romance growing up because it'd be weird to talk to any other adults about and his dad wasn't the best for those topics outside of pure factual statements since it wasn't something he could relate to.
Now Wrangler is sort of limited by the villager's his age either being a) his relatives b) women or c) 2 of them have non compatible sexualities (straight and aro-ace). Maybe he'd have a short thing with Bolt as adolescents but the personalities don't really work long term. At that time Wrangler wasn't really looking at the village anyway - upon officially reaching adulthood he decides to take a year off to just go get along on his own for a bit to meet NEW people.
In the Smurfverse maybe this translates to travelling the surrounding areas a bit, meeting different species of fae and stuff before bogging back to the village, and in the humanverse he specifically goes to America to meet up with his grandmother Saloon and spends a year jumping around ranch work and getting into bar fights lmao. Either way he meets and charms a. fair number of men /lh It's the tenacity, the sheer GALL that radiates off him and always has, it's irresistible.
Obviously you know the rest of the story; he actually meets his match when he returns to the village. I mean look he met a LOT of people but they don't really compare to the world's buffest goblin/vampire blacksmith that's just fact. But sometimes during a late night chat Wrangler will recount the story of the time he was working on a mountain somewhere this one year and met this other cowboy and started a passionate whirlwind romance with that ended with the other guy dying whilst Wrangler took his shirt from the closet lmao how crazy was that what a year huh, anyway how was your day, honey? And Zinc who's never left the village wonders why exactly he puts up with him /lh
Honestly Wrangler is so unique for one of my ng ocs in the sense that most of my oc's kind of have very 'standard' ages they're drawn at but Wrangler is one of the small handful I'll flip back and forth because he's just so much fun to develop either way that he no longer really has a 'standard' age like some of the others he's just whatever I feel like drawing today. Lmao anyway
Oh this entire thing was just an excuse to draw a cool cowboy outfit and listen to that song on repeat btw
Wrangler is mine

Reviewing the America-exclusive Turbo Grafx 16 (PC Engine) games - Part 3
This is Part 3 - the Final part of my look at the Turbo Grafx 16 (PC Engine) games that were exclusively released in North America. If you want to start from Part 1, it's here. In this part, I won't feature "Davis Cup Tennis" or "Andre Panza Kick Boxing" because while they were released in the US on HuCard, both these two games were eventually given Japanese releases on the Super CD-ROM2 format thanks to Micro World picking up distribution rights for them. Let's go.
Game #13: It Came from the Desert
Developer: Cinemaware Corporation
Release Year: 1991
Catalogue No.: TGXCD1010
Genre: Adventure
Format: CD-ROM2
A remake of Cinemaware's 1989 Amiga smash hit. The B-Movie feeling that emanates from It Came from the Desert is probably its best asset - and also the way how everyone in the game seems to be alive and do their own things as the story progresses. But the rest of the game is terrible. The video sequences are great technical achievements, but they are often dull and I personally prefer well drawn static graphics than these animated but horribly pixelated animations. Then some of them just don't make any sense - what is the girl in the Borax Saloon talking about ? And everyone in the game seem to be upset and have something against you... and I'm not talking about the town people that have been "Ant-droidified". Finally, the action phases are probably the worse I've seen on the system - they feel unfinished, incomplete and are unbelievably tedious. It Came from the Desert is only worth buying if you want to own every single piece of American Turbo-only software.
A better way to spend your time in a similar premise is to find a copy of Konami's Snatcher for your PC Engine CD or Sega CD. You don't have to deal with these dull graphics and characters cos you will be enthralled by the story of Gillian Seed and snatchers before you know it.

Game #14: Gunboat
Developer: Accolade / The Code Monkeys
Release Year: 1992
Catalogue No.: TGX040060
Genre: River Combat Simulation
Format: HuCard
A courageous attempt to get a polygon-based military simulation onto the PC Engine, Gunboat just fails to deliver. With a tiny play area and sluggish controls, the slow pace of the gameplay and lack of in-game music does nothing to endear you to a game far more suited to home computers than a console. The game soon becomes boring and there is very little to recommend here. Far more boring than any of the Koei games on the PC Engine, I have to say. A far better game (though arguably so) is Uchuu Senkan Yamato by BEC and Human.
youtube
Game #15: Falcon
Developer: Spectrum Holobyte
Release Year: 1992
Catalogue No.: TGX040067
Genre: F-16 Fighter Simulation
Format: HuCard
Some may call it a bold move to try and convert a polygon-based air combat simulation to the PC Engine, others may call it folly. But whatever your stance, what we are left with here is a slow, boring and dreadfully clunky and unenjoyable experience. Sit this alongside NEC Avenue's PC Engine conversion of Sega's After Burner II, or even the poor Battle Ace, and you'll wonder why they bothered. There is no fun to be had here.
On computers, it was great. On console... not so. By the way, this game is not related to the poor F-16 Fighting Falcon on the Sega Mark III/Master System, though both play the same.
youtube
Game #16: Dungeons & Dragons: Order of the Griffon
Developer: Westwood Studios
Release Year: 1992
Catalogue No.: TGX040072
Genre: RPG
Format: HuCard
I have to say that most of the American-made games I've played on the PC Engine up to this point have been complete duds. They all have gameplay issues in one way or another, but I got to admit. Order of the Griffon surprised me. Programmed by Westwood Studios who also made The Lion King on Super Famicom and Mega Drive as well as Command and Conquer on Saturn, Order of the Griffon has a diverse group of characters and an intricate story - two necessary elements of any good role-playing game. With vibrant graphics and smooth animation, the game adds another dimension to its Dungeons and Dragons tabletop ancestor. Few notes of trivia though:
The game's music was composed by Frank Klepacki, best-known for composing the Command & Conquer franchise. He called the game one of the lowest points in his career due to the limitations of the TurboGrafx-16/PC Engine's sound capabilities, which made composing the music very difficult for him.
The game box's cover features a painting, Spellfire, by artist Clyde Caldwell, earlier used as the front cover to Ed Greenwood's 1988 novel of the same name. The artwork would be re-used again six years later on the cover to another AD&D game, Descent to Undermountain.
This was one of few games developed by a third party for the TurboGrafx-16 that was released in the United States exclusively. The game however was still published by NEC, as evidenced by the "92218" in the UPC number.
youtube
Game #17: Night Creatures
Developer: Manley and Associates Inc.
Release Year: 1991
Catalogue No.: TGX040069
Genre: Platformer
Format: HuCard
What the hell is this? With a game cover and title like Night Creatures, I was expecting something along the likes of "Altered Beast but set at night" but no, this is a whole different mess. Manley and Associates are the same team that made Pink Goes to Hollywood and Super Snakey on the Super Famicom and somehow on their Turbo Grafx debut, they make a balls-up of it. I do know Pink Goes to Hollywood was decent on the Super Famicom.
The game looks nice, I'll give it that, but unfortunately, the gameplay does not live up to the presentation. The interface used to switch weapons and transform is awkward, requiring you to pause the game. Your character takes a lot of cheap hits and is constantly dying. Even transforming into animals drains your life, so you can only do it sparingly. My best advice is to punch while squatting, which seems to make you much less vulnerable to attack. Nightmare Creatures lets you save your place if you're running on a PC Engine or Turbo console, but overall, this title feels like a missed opportunity.
You're better off with either the HuCard or CD-ROM2 version of Altered Beast, frankly.
youtube
Game #18: Champions Forever Boxing
Developer: Distinctive Software Inc.
Release Year: 1991
Catalogue No.: TGX040077
Genre: Boxing
Format: HuCard
Featuring Muhammad Ali and George Foreman, what could go wrong? Well... nothing at all, really. Outstanding sound and graphics! This boxing simulation is one of the best western-made sports games I've ever played on the PC Engine, overshadowed only by the fact that there are better boxing games on the same system such as Creative Amusement's Bull Fight and Naxat's Digital Champ.
youtube
Game #19: John Madden DUO CD Football
Developer: Electronic Arts / Hudson Soft
Release Year: 1993
Catalogue No.: TGXCD1045
Genre: American Football
Format: Super CD-ROM2
There's been so many Madden games over the years that it's hard to keep up with. During the early days of Madden, there was one Madden football that most people probably didn't play. It came out on the Turbo CD and it's the only football game on that system (or if you want to, the PC Engine CD-ROM2 add-on). There was TV Sports Football on HuCard, but this one was the only football game on the CD. It only came out in America too. I hear this one is just Madden 93 with FMV (Full Motion Video). I actually can confirm this, since I own Madden 93 on both Mega Drive and Super Famicom consoles. I wouldn't know since I never really played Madden or cared.
The game opens up with a rotoscoped football field that shows a TV display of Madden who looks like they just put a camera on him without him even knowing it. After that you have options of what mode you want, teams, how many minutes and even the weather. You can even have rain or snow if you want. You can play through a season or just an exhibition with your friends. The sky's the limit.
The graphics are nothing special. By today's standards it's quite laughable. I find it cool that one of the teams you can pick is the Oilers who hasn't been a team in years which makes this game a little historical. You always run from bottom to top, and the teams will huddle, and you can select their plays. What makes this unique is the FMV that pops up. However, most of the time the FMV will distract from the game. When we played, it slowed the gameplay down considerably and we just wanted an option to turn it off.
Some of the FMV that pops up usually shows your character dancing on a touchdown or even the crowd going nuts. It's pretty funny looking because you can tell it was all staged. There's also an ending FMV that shows the crew having fun and more of John Madden himself. It's quite a treat.
For a piece of nostalgia history this game is still a good game for those wanting to play something out of football history. It has teams that are no longer there and it's fun to see the different FMVs that wowed gamers back in the day. It also controls fairly well. It's probably not a game that you will play all the time with your friends considered games has drastically improved since this, but it's a game to have fun with just to see how football games were back in the day.
To put it simply: the graphics are basic, the FMV is interesting and funny for the wrong reasons, and it's American Football. You either like it or you hate it, so if you're a fan then it does the job competently.

Intel Received: BTE Overdrive - Pilot Augments
Greetings, Dan here,
When it comes to mech TTRPGs there is a spectrum of design on where the focus of the game is placed. On the one end you have the mech and on the other you have the pilot. The core mechanics will usually focus on one more than the other. Often times in crunchier, tactical games you'll find focus on the mech itself and it's capabilities, while in more narrative focused games the attention will be paid to how the pilot affects the world around them. This isn't exclusive of course. In mech fiction both the machine and pilot are linked so there will usually be some degree of mechanics given to the lesser side. It's just usually obvious which one is predominant in a system.
In Beneath Twisted Earth, the aim was always to strike a balance between the two. There would be a tactical combat system with a versatile mech and weapon customization. At the same time, the pilot would have skills that could be used in their machine or out. Still, when it came to mechanics they were leaned more towards the mech end of the spectrum. After all two thirds of character creation was dedicated to building the player's machine. Because of this, one of the goals on BTE Overdrive was to give additional pilot options that would allow for players to customize them as much as they could their mech. This wouldn't just be cosmetically, but through new features that would give a pilot more ways they could affect a battlefield than just through their skills/stats. This came in the form of Pilot Augments and Pilot Talismans. We will visit the talismans next time, today, we're going to take a look at the augments.
BTE is a cyberpunk, dystopian setting. While it was mentioned in the core book that Remnants are post humans, having technology incorporated into their bodies, in the core rules it was only a matter of flavor. This aspect of the world is fleshed out in Overdrive. The suite of standard augments all Remnants have will be detailed, and Pilots will have the option to visit augmentation saloons to further enhance themselves. These additional augments will grant new abilities that can affect combat or skill checks both in or out of the mech. Yet, a pilot cannot fully replace their body. No their, nervous system can only handle so much. Because of this, the number of augments a pilot can install past their standard suite is limited to their Spirit Bonus. Any augments installed beyond this will cause immediate, severe penalties that will stack for each excess install. This can also be accompanied with roleplaying consequences as the pilot suffers malfunctions and mental deterioration.
To help illustrate what sort of fun new options this will open up for players, I've included two examples below of augments that will be available for purchase:
Additional Limbs: Additional limbs such as arms, legs, or tails. Can also be purchased to replace existing or missing limbs. Can be installed multiple times. Augment grants +5 conditional bonus to Body Checks involving acts of strength for the pilot, and increases the Rate of Fire of any unarmed attack the pilot makes while on foot by one.
Nerve Accelerator: An augment increasing reaction time. During combat, the pilot may make up to two reactions per round.
As you can see, any Pilot Augments that are installed will provide significant impact on what a pilot can bring on missions. Because of this, the cost of augments are comparable to mech equipment. (The most expensive of which is comparable to a primary mech part!) This makes sense as mechanically they operate similarly to utility systems, but for pilots. It should also be noted that pilots that install additional augments will also take switch from the biological to hybrid target type for the purposes of calculating damage. I.e. if adversaries are using ammunition that deals extra damage to technological targets the pilot will be susceptible to such damage.
Pilot Augments will provide an exciting addition to play options in campaigns of BTE both mechanically and for roleplay opportunities. Next time we will look at the other pilot customization option added in Overdrive, Pilot Talismans. Until then, thank you for your interest. I look forward to seeing you at the launch of the premium editions of the core book, and Beneath Twisted Earth: Overdrive!

Tagging: @sellycarcosa @empiresofyourheart @paintaboveyourbones @pain-in-the-butler (if you want lol)
GET TO KNOW YOUR MUTUALS
Tagged by: Thank you @desertfangs for tagging me! ❤️
What’s the origin of your username?: I have no reason for it, really. Other than that I wanted to pick a Finnish username and thought this was funny. It’s just a platypus pun! 😆 Platypus in Finnish is “vesinokkaeläin”, which translates to “water beak animal”. I changed the first word to “tuli” so it now means “fire beak animal”. :DD
OTP(s) + ship name: Oh no…I love many ships and don’t really dislike any, so.
Marius ships?? Marius/Daniel, Marius/Armand, Marius/Lestat, Marius/Armand/Daniel, Marius/Armand/Lestat. Also...Armand/Daniel, Lestat/David, Lestat/David/Louis, uhhhh of course Lestat/Louis and Lestat/Armand, Armand/Louis, Lestat/Louis/Armand…..hmm Jesse/Mael, Mael/Marius….etc.
I almost never use the ship names, who knows what they all are! xD
Favorite color: Red & dark green
Song stuck in your head: Miina by Vilma Jää (I’ve really been loving her lately, it’s Finnish ethno pop)
Weirdest habit/trait: Hmm, I don’t know, having little dance parties by myself in elevators? But how am I to know if other people also do this? 😆
Hobbies: Tabletop role-playing games, board games, video games, reading, and hey, I’ve been drawing for almost six months now! Having a hobby where I get to create something has definitely been so good for me!
If you work, what’s your profession?: University administration. Doesn’t have anything to do with my degree but I don’t want to search for new jobs right now…
If you could have any job you wish, what would it be?: When I was a child I wanted to be a person whose job would be only to pet animals all day. I think I’d still like that.
Something you’re good at: Hmm, at least I’m NOT good at thinking of anything when someone asks. 😂 I’m an ok baker!
Something you hate: AI art…
Something you collect: Books, dice, Moomin mugs (I didn’t buy a single one myself, they just are a very common gift lol)
Something you forget: Always forget my food or drinks in my friend’s fridges.
What’s your love language?: I’m not very familiar with this theory…how would I choose just one. So I won't!
Favorite movie/show: I’m bad at picking favorites…Most recently I’ve been watching Severance & Twin Peaks, and I’m loving them! Hmm, I also like Fargo, Black Sails, Hannibal, Community, Over the Garden Wall, True Detective, Arcane, Haunting of the Hill House, Midnight Mass & Dropout shows like Game Changer. Some anime, and other things I’m 100% certainly forgetting now!!
I don’t know about a fave movie either…I like The Lord of the Rings movies, Robert Egger’s movies, Ghibli animation, Interstellar, Hereditary, Star Wars, Alien, Labyrinth….many other things…xD
Favorite food: Let’s say avocado pasta or grilled mushrooms stuffed with cheese
Favorite animal: Seals! And puffins!
What were you like as a child?: I think I was a pretty outgoing kid that got along well with everybody, but then I got social anxiety :D
Favorite subject at school: Psychology, literature, English as a foreign language
Least favorite subject: Physics and chemistry
What’s your best character trait?: I can be depended on to help & really like helping people! Let me carry your stuff when you’re moving, I demand it!!! 😂
What’s your worst character trait?: Procrastination….nowadays it’s just hard for me to do anything unless I have a deadline set by someone else. Bottling my feelings and worries instead of expressing them, even when I know it would be better for me to talk about them.
If you could travel in time, who would you like to meet: Because of social anxiety, it would be a horror for me to meet any celebrities or famous people. I’d just go meet myself in the past and we’d both be equally awkward. 🤝
Tagging: I'm not sure at all who's already been tagged but I'm bravely tagging some people that maybe have not been? No pressure! @wretcheddoll @littleshopofflorrors @ladyvampir3 @half-as-big-as-life @bunnnster and everybody who wants to do it 😄

Andrew Weathers — A Cardinal with a Sign of Blood (Full Spectrum)
Cardinals, with their blood red plumage, are messengers from the spirit world. Seeing one is a sign that our deceased loved ones are watching over us from the other side. Andrew Weathers takes this legend to heart: the recent loss of both his father and aunt inspired him to create A Cardinal with a Sign of Blood. The bedrock of the album comprises old home recordings and field recordings from poignant locations. Weathers is jamming with his ancestors to achieve catharsis, and he’s taking his listeners along for the ride.
Growing up as a punk rocker in North Carolina, Weathers embeds an Appalachian vibe in his music, but is equally keen to employ the evocative dynamics of post-rock. He is also a trained composer and holds an MFA in electronic music from Mills College. His current base of operations in northwestern Texas has been permeating his work since the mid 2010s, especially the recordings from the Andrew Weathers Ensemble, an expansive group of friends and collaborators that realize his most song-based compositions. The composer weaves a lifetime of experiences and influences into Cardinal, channelling moods rooted in both Americana and the astral plane.
As a solo artist, Weathers isn’t afraid to revel in the uncanny. The pastoral post-rock vibe of his ensemble work gives way to something more alien in tone when he’s alone. It’s clear that this is a personal record for Weathers, and as opening track “28 Feb 1975” comes into view, we’re treated to his singular vision. Layers of field recordings and ghostly conversation fragments thread themselves into a tapestry over which a lone guitar unfurls a lonely melody. The composer processes the layered voices using various effects, and the resulting cacophony becomes a dense thicket through which he navigates. The guitar transforms into an electric piano drone as Weathers conjures a chorus of shortwave radios emanating across the night sky.
Particularly intriguing are the pieces dubbed “Duet,” which find Weathers improvising against mildly processed recordings. On the first, he’s picking a staccato pattern on his acoustic guitar while ethereal piano notes and highly charged conversations compliment the shambling strings. It’s as if Weathers is improvising next door to a raucous saloon brawl. The second duet substitutes the unintentional humor of the first piece with a more straightforward take on the concept. Weathers channels David Grubbs as he unfurls intricate tone clusters from the same acoustic guitar, this time accompanied by a clarinet recording. Both pieces are unique aspects of the Andrew Weathers songbook, echoing the rawness of the composer’s grief. Working through his emotions, he’s revealed a new side of himself, and it’s equally beautiful as what he’s previously offered.

KMC Wheels: Where Style Meets Road Mastery

Wheels aren't just the componentry that keeps your vehicle moving; they're also a reflection of your style, your vehicle's capability, and, in many cases, how you view your relationship with the open road. In this context, KMC Wheels have established themselves as more than just another brand in the automotive industry.
A Brief Introduction to KMC Wheels
Born out of the Southern Californian culture, KMC Wheels have been gracing the roads for decades. The brand's inception was inspired by the off-road racing circuit, where the fusion of performance, strength, and style is a must. Since then, KMC has transitioned into catering to a diverse range of automotive enthusiasts, from city slickers looking for that urban appeal to off-road adventurers seeking rugged reliability.
The Broad Spectrum of Designs
Dive into the KMC portfolio, and you'll find a plethora of designs that cater to diverse tastes. Whether you're inclined towards a minimalist look, a robust off-road vibe, or an elegant, sleek design, KMC doesn't disappoint. The brand takes pride in its versatility, ensuring that no matter your vehicle – be it an SUV, a truck, or a saloon – there's a KMC wheel waiting to amplify its appeal.
Uncompromising Quality and Performance
Beyond the looks, wheels need to be dependable. Especially for those who see their vehicle as more than just a means of transportation. KMC's history in the off-road racing circuit isn't a mere historical tidbit; it's a testament to the brand's commitment to performance. Every wheel undergoes rigorous testing, ensuring that they don't just look good – they endure. Whether you're navigating the urban jungle's potholes or taking on dirt trails in the wilderness, KMC wheels are built to take on the challenge.
Eco-Friendly Approach
In today's age, where sustainability has become a significant concern, KMC also takes strides in ensuring eco-friendliness. From the materials chosen to the manufacturing processes employed, the brand prioritizes minimizing its environmental footprint. So, when you opt for KMC, you're not just making a statement on the road but also about your commitment to the planet.
Customization: A Unique Flavor for Every Vehicle
One size doesn't fit all, and this is especially true in the automotive world. Recognizing this, KMC offers customization options for those who desire a touch of uniqueness. From size variations to fit different vehicle specifications to color variations catering to individual aesthetic preferences, the brand makes sure your vehicle stands out, reflecting your unique persona.
A Testament to KMC's Popularity
KMC's impact on the automotive industry is evident in its collaborations and partnerships. Many high-profile celebrities and influential figures have opted for KMC wheels, not as a status symbol but as a testament to the brand's quality and style.
Moreover, KMC's reach isn't just limited to individual enthusiasts. The brand has also collaborated with several automotive events, off-road rallies, and motorsport events, further establishing its reputation in the industry.
Final Thoughts
In the world of wheels and rims, KMC stands out, not just as a brand but as an emblem of style, quality, and performance. They've been the choice for many – from everyday drivers to the automotive elite. If you're contemplating upgrading or simply wish to instill a fresh breath of life into your vehicle, taking a closer look at what KMC Wheels offer might just lead you to your perfect match.

I
...
but
...
I HAVE SO MANY QUESTIONS
A: the obvious, at first glance, why are you BLUE
B: The Saloon Car is the SSC
C: The Spectrum Pursuit Vehicle is slate blue instead of cobalt blue like this, and is the SPV.
D: I did some (admittedly brief) check and the Dinky one is USUALLY red, with a bronze and yellow variant. ...but this DOES answer why it's the SPC, Dinky mistakenly called it the Spectrum Pursuit Car
Why…why are you blue?!

Established in 1951 as the first bar in Scottsdale, Arizona, the Rusty Spur is an authentic country western saloon, serving up cold beer and live country music with Old West hospitality to locals and visitors from all over the world including Dierks Bentley, Blake Shelton, Toby Keith, John Rich, Jake Owen, and Post Malone. But before you take a seat at our legendary bar, you should know that you're experiencing a piece of Arizona history. We're an official registered historical landmark, ya'll! Our building was constructed in 1921 and housed the Farmer’s State Bank of Scottsdale from 1921 until 1933 when it closed on March 2nd for a ‘bank holiday’ called by Governor B. B. Moeur. The bank never reopened. Prior to 1951 the building housed the first office of the Scottsdale Chamber of Commerce and then a real-estate office. In 1951 it was renovated to become what is known today as Rusty Spur Saloon. The bank vault remains in place and has been converted to a refrigerated unit to store "the valuables"- beer and liquor!
