Would stardust fix us?| Neteyam x Avatar!reader
Tumblr media
Indirectly inspired by the song All I Wanted by Paramore
Synopsis - Selfishness is a horribly addicting thing, it takes everything you’ve done and breaks it down in just a second. Neteyam can’t bring himself to admit his love for you, he has his duty, always living for what his father and clan wants. His resolve should be strong, until he meets you, a quiet sky person that barreled into his life and will seemingly leave just as quick. You’re tired of living for everyone but yourself, confined to the white walls you were born in, staring out to the world you craved to see. You have the chance at a new life, one that can truly be yours… You decide to live your life for yourself even if it means the end of it.
or In which when given the chance to have what they want, Neteyam’s life will start and yours will end.
Tumblr media
I. May the dead walk again
II. Tìfyawìntxu
III. Longing
IV. Outsider or not
V. Choice
VI. High Above
VII. Sä’anla
VIII. In the End (the dead walks again)
I’m not taking anymore story requests but im definitely taking advice/requests/song suggestions for this series! also i’ll try my best to answer asks that are just rambles or random things, makes me happy :)

Explain then why did he save quaritch? I think he should have died instead of Neteyam but I'm willingly to listen and understand him if you explain him.
Next time, if you want me to answer a question, ask me a question. That's generally how these thing work. If you're willing to listen to me, you have to actually ask me to tell you something first.
So, there are two major reasons that Spider saved Quaritch. One, because he felt like he owed him. Quaritch put down his knife to save Spider, regardless of wether or not Neytiri would have killed him, which is debatable in fandom. Quaritch believed she would and tried to save Spider's life. Quaritch and Spider had developed a Stockholm/Lima syndrome type relationship. Spider has been neglected his whole life, and attention, even abusive and unhealthy, felt fucking great. Two, Spider was raised essentially Na'vi. All life is precious to the Na'vi. He did not go looking for Quaritch to save him; he was looking for Jake, Neytiri, and Tuk, and hoping to save them. He was unable to leave someone behind to die. He didn't seem to have a problem with Quaritch being killed when it wasn't on his hands, he didn't go looking to save Quaritch from the shipwreck.
Now on another note, narratively, here is why the story would be a hell of a lot worse if Spider died instead of Neteyam. Stories are about conflict, you understand? Neteyam's death and Spider's survival cause a fuck of a lot more conflict and character development than the other way around does. In fact, Spider's death and Neteyam's survival kind of wraps everything up in a neat little bow. All the Sully kids live, Jake and Neytiri never have to confront their neglect of Spider, Quaritch is dead and no longer haunting the family, Neytiri never has to confront her trauma in relationship to humans and Spider, there is no guilt storyline for Lo'ak to have that mirrors Jake that will push him to develop, and everyone can mourn him and move on.
Quite simply put, if Neteyam lived and Spider died, the next few movies would be pretty boring based off of what they had set up in this one.

prompt: spider takes the bullet, not neteyam. quaritch will do anything to get his son back, anything. he'll even work with augustine's recom.
(warnings for discussions of past torture and character death, although really an astonishingly gen ending to this magnificent journey)
ao3
"They won't help you," he says. "You know that, right?"
Augustine stares at him, face studiously blank the way it used to get during long board meetings. He can see her tail twitching, though, ears flickering like she's trying to ward off a nonexistent fly.
Behind her, farther down the bloodstained rock, Mo'at'ite hisses, knuckles white around her bow (that bow, that fuckingbow, but Quaritch won't look at it, anymore than he'll look at the body at Augustine's feet). She and Sully both have their weapons drawn, but Quaritch isn't the slow target he was in the AMP anymore and Augustine's standing tall, fucking up their sightlines.
"Kiri," Sully says, voice taut. "You gotta get out of the way, babygirl--"
Quaritch barks a laugh, the ragged kind that comes when you're teetering on the edge of hysteria. "Babygirl? You shitting me?" He shakes his head. "Come the fuck on, doc. The Augustine I know would've put out her cigarette on any man who tried that shit with her."
"She isn't Grace," Sully says hoarsely. "Kiri, stand down now. That's an order."
Quaritch doesn't even dignify that shit with a response, just rolls his eyes (easier to avoid looking at the ground, at the body). Augustine doesn't seem particularly moved either, her fingers flexing as she adjusts her stance.
She could kill him, Quaritch knows, without any help from her so-called mommy and daddy. He can feel the power crackling in the air around her, buzzing around her fists, blood-metallic on his tongue. It makes his kuru ache, same way it had in the woods--back then, he'd been too focused on Spider Spider Spider to really pay attention.
He knows better, now. He'd seen what she'd done to Lyle after Sully's voice has crackled over the line, sharp and cold and still shaking ever so slightly: your boy's dead, one of your dumb fucking grunts shot him. Let my daughters go, or you're next. Sully's always been a shit liar, but it was the panicked look at Lyle's face that made it impossible to deny.
Fucking Lyle. He's lucky the way Augustine turned his brain to slurry when she did, before Quaritch could get his hands on him. Lucky he doesn't have to fucking stand here and not look at the thing on the ground, the thing, the body--
"You think they'll even let you bury him?" he asks. "The locals won't stand to have this shit in their holy grounds--they'll probably give him back to Spellman so he can get dumped in a fucking crematorium. You'll never see your Monkey Boy again."
The pipsqueak with the eyebrows, tail lashing. "Don't you talk to her--" he growls, but Augustine cuts him off.
"I'll never see him either way." Her voice is hoarse--Quaritch remembers the way she screamed on the ship, like something had been torn loose in her and would never be put right. He knows that feeling.
"Kiri," the older boy says, the one Lyle had screamed something about trying to shoot instead as his blood ran out of his eyes. "Kir, please, come on--"
"We've got his memories," Quaritch cuts him off fast, can't let her get swayed by her fake family now. "At Bridgehead, we--we scanned them. Got a copy." If they're still there; they better be still there. The kid had thrown a shitfit in the scanner like every time before, but he'd still gone into the revamped Soul Drive with the rest of them.
"You hurt him." There's blood dripping from the tips of her fingers; he wonders if Sully and the rest have realized it's not hers.
"I did," Quaritch admits, because he doesn't have any time to fuck around. "Whatever you want to call me, whatever I've done, you're right. But I want him back, you understand? I mean it, you know I do."
She does. He can feel this fucking eyes of hers burn into him, bright with whatever wacky upgrades she got from her own trip through the other side, flaying him deeply enough she can see Spider Socorro's name written on her heart, same way it's written on hers. Kid's always had that fucking way about him.
"I want him back and none of these assholes will help, none of them could if they fucking wanted to, but I can." Quaritch takes a step forward and the Sullys tense, knuckles white on their weapons. "And you--you've got the know-how, you're the egghead I need in my corner. You brought yourself back, didn't you?"
"She didn't--" Sully whines.
"Didn't she?" Quaritch doesn't bother looking at him, keeps his eyes firmly on Augustine as he holds out a hand. She looks at it, then at him, those little flashy lights twinkling across her skin like she's rebooting. Remembering.
"I offered you a chance to make amends and work on this moon together, once." She knows what he's talking about, he can see it. "You told me to go stick my dick in a woodchipper, and you were right. But I don't care about that anymore, I don't give a fuck about this stupid mudball we're on or the stupid mud ball we're from, I just want my son."
His gaze flicks to her family, just for a second, then back to her. "They don't see anything about you except the meatsuit, same way those RDA pukes did with me. And they don't see anything about--" His breath catches, twists, "him, except that he's a big fucking mistake, and they'll do everything they can to forget he ever existed."
Silence. Her jaw works and he wonders if she wishes she had a cigarette right now--seeing her without one feels more jarring than the baby face or the blue skin.
"Kiri," the little girl whines, reaching out before the Metkayina girl carefully tugs her back. "Kiri, please."
Augustine's hair rustles with a wind that doesn't exist and her fists curls tight at her side, fingers trembling. Quaritch wonders if she's going to burn him like she burned Lyle, or maybe just call up something big and toothy to rip him apart.
And she might have, if Sully hadn't decided to lunge across the island in a few big, stupid strides, clapping his hand down her shoulder. "Kiri," he gasps, tugging her back. "Come on--"
Her eyes flare (panic anger fear, quick and smashed-up the way it always came with her) and she whirls, queue crackling, palms raised high. Sully goes staggering backward with a yelp, clutching his bleeding nose, and Mo'at'ite lunges to catch him before his head hits the rock. Augustine watches him topple, stunned still, gaping in horror.
Then she moves. Turns and scoops the...body up from the ground, cradling it (him) carefully to her chest even as she hustles down the rock. No vocalization, but her banshee swoops down from the sky, landing with a whomp of wings next to Cupcake, and she's hauling the body (Spider) onto the saddle before Quaritch's got his first leg up Cupcake's side.
"Kir!" Pipsqueak yells, rushing to their side, frantic. "Kir, wait, don't--"
She holds out a hand and he jerks to a half, from his own volition or hers it's hard to say. "Look after them," she says, and then Quaritch is fitting his own queue home, not that Cupcake needs more encouragement to go go go as they soar into the sky.
They go swoop out over the smoldering sea, Augustine's hair--Spider's hair--whipped gently by the wind. Quaritch glances over his shoulder to see the Sullys vanishing, a scatter of blue dots rapidly fading from view.
"They won't follow us," Augustine calls flatly. "Their ikran won't listen until we're out of range." She shoots him a cold look, hand resting on his son's spine--Quaritch doubts he's getting near that body any time soon, but that doesn't matter, he'll make it not matter. "Lead the way, Ranger Rick."
"Yes, ma'am," he says, just to be an asshole, tossing off a snide salute before leaning into the next turn. She bares her teeth the way the kid used and follows, banshees swerving together to meet the rising sun.

This fandom needs to learn the difference between a betrayal and mercy.
What Jake did in the first movie was a betrayal. If he hadn't fallen in love with Neytiri he would have continued to be a spy for the RDA all the while learning the secrets that protected the Na'vi and home tree.
A betrayal implies a switching of loyalties.
Spider isn't loyal to Quaritch. Spider showed mercy and that is it.

I do have a really good and interesting idea for a Spider series where the reader is human but she’s also got powers so she’s a super human. It would follow the first movie. I’ve been thinking about it for awhile now but I’m not sure if anyone would be interested in it!!!🤨🤨🤨

If Spider and Quaritch get their own comic mini series it would probably be called “ I see you”.

Oel Ngati Kameie my beautiful little series, my first foray into Spider's character. I wrote it after my second viewing of Way of Water (which might also get a live blogging session when it comes out on Disney+) and at the time, I had no motivation or inspiration to write cause Covid hit hard guys.
So my tiny little brain decided one night to think, what if Spider got hurt worse in his fall from the tree at the beginning of the film? Cause there's no way he would've come out of that unscathed. And the next morning I started, and that evening finished the first part, which clocked in at 6k words. I posted it thinking it wouldn't get much interaction because Spider didn't even have a proper character tag at the time, and then suddenly I checked back, and it had brought in almost 1000 hits and about 12 comments in three hours.
Granted, to some people with major stories who get way more than that in one day, it is a small number. But, to me this was huge. I was coming from getting maybe a few hundred hits in a month, and maybe 5 comments on my works because they were so niche (my ideas are weird, okay? I wrote an Alice in Wonderland AU for Zukka I'm that strange).
So to have a series blow up that much, was such a privilage and a confidence boost. And just at the time where Spider and the kids were getting popular. You guys don't know how starved I was for content literally months ago. It makes me feel not quite old by aged thinking about how there were literally ten stories about Spider and one of them was mine XD
So to my (admittedly not small) first foray into the world of writing Avatar, happy six month birthday. And to anyone who has read the whole of this post (which wow dedication) THANK YOU!!! <333
Tumblr media
also to those newbies who have found me because of Our hearts Or For the Nights here's a link to check it out. i gave Spider an Avatar and a family it's pretty cool.
tags (can i tag with this sort of post?? XD): @be-the-glenn-to-my-maggie - biggest supporter, @wafflesrisa - bestie I hadn't even realised you commented on part of it i gasped so hard.

OR, ORRR, ok what if that who drabble was a memory he relive in a dream turned nightmare 🫢 the moment Quaritch comes back, ready to bring Spider into a world of pain, he wakes up with a jolt in the forest, maybe a month or two after that incident, hyperventilating as some squad members stir.
Miles was the watchman and catches Spider having a bit of a panic attack. (Yes I’m asking for a bit of comfort it it’s possible, maybe Spider even being all reluctant and going “you’re not gonna…hurt me again, right?” 😭)
This response is about a follow up I wrote to Noodle, imagining that the whole finding-a-dissected-Na'vi-in-the-Bridgehead-labs thing was a nightmare 💅🏻 Sorry it's taken me so long babe 💞
"Please!" Spider yelled as the door slammed shut behind Quaritch, leaving Spider, achingly, desperately alone again, on the cold hard floor of the Bridgehead cell. "Don't leave!"
He couldn't do it. He couldn't be left like this, not again. His mind mulled and churned and thoughts became fears until he couldn't think straight. His hands were clammy, his chest heaved with agonised breaths of air that simply weren't enough. "I'm sorry!"
He cried out, and then hands were on him. Large, strong hands. Hands he knew to be Quaritch's - but Quaritch had just left. He was alone. He was hurting. He was terrified.
"PLEASE!" he called out again, grasping for the touch in the dark. Distant noises floated towards him, but it was hard to hear anything past the sound of his sobs and the hissing of his exopack.
But wait... He was in a cell, inside... why was he wearing an exopack?
He flung his eyes open, drenched in sweat and clinging onto Quaritch's protective arms. His head span as he tried to figure out what happened, through the haze that his brain had become. Quaritch was there, shushing him. He was sat on the mossy floor of the forest, plants and bugs glowing around them.
It was bewildering - it had felt so real. All he could do was try to get his breathing back under control as relief flooded through him. He was safe, he was with Quaritch, the squad were nearby, and they were in the forest.
"It's okay... you just had a bad dream," came Quaritch's voice from above him. His face was pressed into Quaritch's chest, though Spider didn't remember getting there consciously. The sound of the recom's voice was steady, authoritative, yet laced with worry. Not yet capable of saying anything, Spider focused on the words. "It's alright kid, you're fine."
His fingers gripped Quaritch's arm as a headrush overcame him. He had become dizzy from hyperventilating. He tried to match the steady rise and fall of Quaritch's chest to regulate his breaths.
Eywa, he'd never had a nightmare this bad.
Slowly, his grip on the recom's oversized limbs relinquished, and Quaritch moved his arm to stroke Spider's back firmly. "Jesus, kid. That was one Hell of a night terror..."
Spider's head had finally begun to clear. "Sorry..." he mumbled. This was just pure embarrassing, really. "That was... I've never..."
Quaritch waited him out, but it was difficult to put into words how real it had felt. The dead Na'vi, laying face up on a table with his insides spewn out. Rotten. Decaying. Blackened flesh. A cavity of a torso.
Quaritch would never do that. Of course it wasn't real.
"That was shit," he settled on.
He was still under Quaritch's protective hold, so he gently released the man's forearm and pushed himself away slightly, finally bringing Quaritch's concerned face into view. The Colonel noticed the change in the boy's demeanour, tilting his head as if to encourage Spider to continue speaking. Spider noticed the furrow of his brow, the worried creases surrounding his golden eyes, and most tellingly, the way his ears were alert, pricked up and scanning for even the smallest sounds, utterly focused on Spider.
"You wanna talk about it?" Quaritch asked slowly.
No, he definitely did not. Spider shook his head.
"Was..." Quaritch seemed to steel himself for what he was about to say. It looked like the words weighed heavily on his heart. "Was I in it?"
Spider pushed himself back further, allowing him a sturdier position on the soft, luminesent moss beneath him. It also meant he could support himself fully without having Quaritch's hands on him. He looked deep into the recom's eyes, almost scared for what he would find there. "Yes," he said eventually.
Quaritch nodded. "Tell me."
Spider took a breath, unsure if revealing the truth would help either of them. But Quaritch was staring at him so intently, he couldn't help it. "I... we were in Bridgehead. I sneaked off and found..." Spider took a deep breath and forced away the images of the warrior on the dissecting table. "A Na'vi warrior... in the labs. He was..." He stared hard at the teal coloured glow of the moss beneath him to stop the images. "He was gutted... experimented on. And... and you knew about it"
Quaritch seemed to expect what was coming next.
"You... you took me back to the cell. You were going to leave me there. Again."
Neither of them had forgotten the days of confinement Spider had been subjected to in that place. Neither of them wanted to relive it.
"Spider..." Quaritch whispered.
It was strange hearing him talk so softly. Quaritch had almost always spoken to him in his strong, squad leader's tone of voice. Even when Spider had messed around, Quaritch never really deviated. He didn't shout, and he certainly didn't whisper.
"You know that - back then - those were different times. You weren't ready to talk. You couldn't be reasoned with." Spider hissed at that, but Quaritch ploughed on. "Not like now. You and I, we're good together. I'm sorry for the way it went down... at the beginning. But I ain't making no apologies for what it led to. You and me, kid. That's all. That's the only thing that matters."
Spider raised his eyes to look at Quaritch once more, uncertain of the man's words. If that's how Quaritch felt, great.
Spider wanted to feel the same, he really did. But he could not forget his trauma.
He nodded, if only to pacify the recom.
"It's late. You should go back to sleep."
"Can I have a tablet?" Can I lay next to you?
Quaritch exhaled, nodding seriously as he reached into his pack for the spare holopad that Spider was becoming increasingly dependent on to fall asleep. Spider took it gratefully, watching as Quaritch got up to return to his own resting spot against a tree trunk.
Somehow, the knowledge that Quaritch was on watch duty for the camp provided a reassurance that Spider didn't know he was missing. As he laid back on the soft ground, he felt comforted knowing that if he did slip into another night terror, Quaritch would be there to bring him back, with gentle hands and a strong embrace.

I get sad when I remember that reader had to leave spider 😔 he would’ve been so happy at the reef and with the twins fuck Jake and Neytiri for not giving a shit about him 😔 he deserves actual parents
he would have absolutely adored the reef! sweet boy would have been so eager to learn more of the peoples ways, definitely enamoured by the ocean. he would have been such a good big brother to readers twins 🥲
he just deserves someone to love and care for him more deeply. like i get he had adoptive human parents. but he seems to not have a proper attachment to them, he just needs someone to be there for him more 😔

Summary: A spider finds out about himself that he never really knew about, and he's glad he did
Archive of our own version: Here
Spider felt alien.
Well, more than he already is, considering to the Na'vi, humans are the most unnatural beings. Which he doesn't argue with. He has seen firsthand how their emotions and beliefs are primarily powered by greed, selfishness, and an ugly fixation on absolute control over everything they see and can't.
Spider always hated the stories the others would tell; how the sky people, Tawtute, came from the stars within their metal birds (space shuttle), wanting to find a new home away from their neglected planet. Believing they could rebuild to save their species from extinction. Not once worry how their actions would affect Eywa'eveng's motherlands, creatures, and her children. Killing thousands without remorse, brothers, sisters, families, and many good humans that weren't blinded by their stupidity. Like Grace Augustine, Jake Sully, and the many scientists that saw their freedom within Pandora.
Knowing this, Spider understood why the Omatikaya treated him as an outcast.
Despite owning a Na'vi spirit, he was confined in his weak human body. He still remembers how, as a toddler, he'd constantly have extreme temper tantrums, his face entirely red with crocodile tears streaming down his cheeks. Demanding fussily that he wanted to own an Avatar like the others. He even begged to use someone else's when they were not using them. Prompting Poor Norm to explain to a grumpy four-year-old boy how borrowing a genetically engineered Na'vi-hybrid body was impossible and dangerous to his undeveloped mind. And creating his own was the same without the suitable instruments and technology to keep it alive.
So, with a saddened heart, he'd accepted that he couldn't be a true child of the people. Yet, it didn't stop him to tried to be one as much as he possibly could be as a human. He stopped wearing human clothes unless he was asleep or with his foster family, spoke the people's language to train himself fluently and read all of Ms. Augustine's survival guides and old video logs. To further his knowledge his their traditions, customs, animals, and flora. Spider did everything to feel even a tiny bit like them, and no matter the little praises and comments he'd received, he treasured them. Those small praises gave him confidence and a sense of being him, not a demon, not his son.
Not Miles Socorro, son of Colonel Miles Quaritch, a Na'vi killer's child. He's Spider, a son of Eywa, a friend and warrior of the Omatikaya clan. He continued this throughout his childhood, leading toward his teens. Where his self-esteem was at his lowest, and puberty was a total bitch. However, throughout the years, he gained friends from a family like him, sharing two worlds. However, unlike him, the people treated them with respect. Lo'ak and Kiri, son and daughter of the mighty Toruk Makto, are his foundation.
Lo'ak, his frivolous brother, brought him trouble and madness wherever they went, a dynamic duo that loved to prank everyone and have amazing adventures that left them with bruises and cuts, much to Mo'at and Neytiri's displeasure. Regardless of his recklessness, Lo'ak can be a great listener, surprising even Spider. He's considerate of the issues that Spider faces. Being similar to his own due to his eyebrows and extra forefinger. They both rely on each other, having their back against anything in their path.
Then there's Kiri, a blessing of the great mother, his kindhearted sister. She always finds ways to cheer Spider from the nasties of moods, showing him Pandora's most extraordinary sites. They bond over their parentages and differences and have each other's back from those who call them freaks.
Yet, this wasn't the reason why he felt alienated.
The combined efforts of Kiri's stubbornness and Lo'ak's lack of decency were the critical key points that helped him discover that feeling. It was high noon, the sun was at its apex, and the Omatikaya carried on their daily chores. He and Kiri were tasked with gathering fresh herbs and fruits to replenish Mo'at's medicine room to aid in creating new ointments and creams for the young warriors injured from hunts and recon missions. Thanks to his fast knowledge of the different effects of the various types of plants, along with Kiri's Tsakarem training, the two are collecting the materials in recorded time. They were enjoying each other company until Spider heard a yowling scream before a vast body pressed him down, "Hey, Bro!!"
Spider smiled, immediately recognizing the voice anywhere," Lo'ak get off bro, your heavy." Lo'ak laughs, still pressing down the older boy, lightly teasing him about how tiny he is under him until Kiri decides it is enough, pushing her annoying brother off him. Spider never mined the teasing from him, knowing fully well that these comments were a way of having fun. Not to be used by the other kids and adults behind their backs.
"Lo'ak."
Spider lifts his head to see a very irritated Neteyam glaring down at his younger brother with his bow on his hip. "Dad told us to hunt for Yerik to bring back to Mother. Stop messing around." He rolled his eyes at his older brother. Spider stood up, dusting himself off the dirt and grass that covered his loincloth, listing to the two arguing. Spider always found it amusing that both claimed to be soo different than the other when he could distinctly see their similarities. Understandably, Neteyam is the responsible child and follows the rules with an iron fist, yet he still vaults into trouble alongside Lo'ak without a second thought. Completely ignoring the dangers and consequences that come from it. And despite Lo'ak being a devil-may-care teenager, he's very concerned about his family and defends them without question, like any brother.
If only Spider could make them see that.
"Whatever, I'm bringing Spider with me for the hunt since somebody doesn't want me around," Lo'ak proclaimed, wrapping an arm around Spider's shoulder. Kiri looks at her brother with a frown, walking up to the two with a deep frown," No, he's helping me gather herbs to bring back to grandmother. He can deal with hunting later." She explained, crossing her arms. Her response was a defending groan, "Oh, come on, sis! I don't want to go with Captain Serious. He'd just gonna go off flirting with that warrior chick again."
That was new; Kiri and Spider looked at Neteyam with shocked yet interested expressions at the newfound information given to them. Neteyam's ears became a dark violet as his face became one of embarrassment. Glaring daggers at his brother, he counters back how "it wasn't like that!" and "She's just a fellow warrior." causing his siblings to giggle at his attempts, while Spider remained silent.
Lo'ak then adds to his brother's horror of the considerable benefits of having a mate, along with some imagined comments causing Neteyam to blush further, causing him to tackle his brother to the ground. Kiri rolled her eyes at the two, "Boys. All of them are just the same." Kiri declared; she then quickly looked back to Spider," Excapt you, Monkey Boy, your so lucky that you don't have to worry about all that stuff." Spider simply chuckles, agreeing with her statement.
Spider understood that being Pandora's only human child, he'll never have a mate to call his own. Unfortunately, he'll never-Wait, is he despondent that he can't have a partner?
He blinks at the sudden thought, confused by the fact that he isn't sad about not having a mate. If anything, he's…glade. Spider, throughout his life, never really talked about romance. Even when someone brings it up in conversations, he just nods until the topic changes to matters he's passionate about, such as hunting, gathering, and even playing with the other kids. It was he experiences little or no romantic attraction to anyone.
Wait a minute, didn't Norm explain something related to that topic a while-Wait!
Spider suddenly remembers one of his Earth lessons instructed by Norm and Max when the topic of "Sexual identities." came into the picture. Norm explains that the people of Earth use them to tell how one thinks of oneself and to whom one is romantically or sexually attracted. It also refers to one's sexual orientation identity, which is when people identify or disidentify with a sexual orientation or choose not to identify with a sexual orientation. In all honesty, Spider was extremely confused about all the terms and meanings since the Na'vi didn't really have or use titles to express their fondness. However, thinking back, he'd recall a particular word buried back of his mind that seemed to stick called Aromantic. Aromantic is a term for a person who experiences little or no romantic attraction to anyone.
This seemed right with him, and if anything, it felt… natural. Like anything that he ever felt unsure of was utterly gone. He's Aromantic. "Spider! Come on, bro, it's almost eclipse!" Spider snapped out of his mind, seeing Lo'ak with Kiri and Neteyam waiting on the other side of a towering tree leading to a dirt path. Spider fastly runs up to the two, apologizing for spacing out. They all began to walk back to the village before Jake had to call a war party for them. Lo'ak, noticing his brother's silent gaze, asked, "You okay, Spider? You seemed quiet."
Spider took a moment before he replied," Oh, you know, Just thinking. And finding some things out."
Spider going to have a field day when he tells Norm and Max what he discovered today.

Things Kids At Work Say That Sully Kids Also Would Say (snapchat edition):
For all intents and purposes imagine Jake is me in all of these and every one of them is sent to Norm (except the one about Norm is sent to Max). Ao’nung makes a bonus appearance once. Some are human AU some are more in a canon vibe.

prompt: i am BEGGING on my knees for more recom!paz, maybe the moment that she and spider met? does he recognise her? he was only a baby when she died, but he kept her picture
(tw past csa, past torture, trauma, violent thoughts)
ao3
It's the hair that grabs his attention first--most recoms don't have curly hair, or if they do they don't grow it out long enough to see. She's got it pulled back, though, not like in the--
in the--
but the sight makes his guts twist anyway. He recognizes the outline of those curls, the same ways he sees in the mirror whenever he takes his braids out. He doesn't take his braids out a whole lot.
She steps into the clearing, gun hanging loosely at her side (shouldn't she be in the sky? is he wrong? let him be wrong). The grass crinkles under her boots the way Quaritch's used to and Spider flinches, pressing his back against the tree.
He tries to tell himself, firmly, that history isn't repeating--he's got a gun now, he's fought in battles, he's faced torture and worse, he's dangerous. He tries to tell himself that, but his hands still hang limp at his sides and he can't breathe right.
Another step, eyes flicking over him--once, a threat assessment, second, a look of confusion. Third, and she stops dead, eyes going wide.
You got your mama's eyes, Quaritch used to pant over and over again as he fucked Spider senseless. That's how I knew you. And...and he's not quite right, not anymore. The pupils are different, the irises, dark brown switched out for searing yellow.
But the shape is the same. And every time he's glimpsed himself shocked, stunned, thrown off his axes and spinning in the dark--he sees it again, in her.
She stumbles forward, like she's about to collapse, a lock of hair swaying from her ponytail, and Eywa, she looks even more like that stupid photo now. Propping herself on a tree, jaw working, more stunned than Quaritch had been, maybe.
"Miles?" she gasps.
And--and. Miles knows what she is, he knows (even if he took her name, even if he got her picture, and learned Spanish along with English to speak her first language, even if he spent his whole fucking childhood telling himself that she hadn't been at Kelutral, that it wasn't anyone's fault she got caught in the Soul Tree crossfire but that doesn't mean she would have done anything, fantasizing about her turning her guns on the enemy and going down a hero like Trudy Chacon had just to trick himself into thinking his family tree wasn't completely fucking rotten).
But he can't go for his gun. Not even now, with her off balance like this. And he can't snarl nobody calls me that, like he had with Quaritch in the woods, when it was so easy to reject his father, before Quaritch sunk his hands so deep into Spider's brain and body it might never come out.
She could do that, Spider knows. She could do worse, if he let her, if he stands in this burning fucking house and refuses to listen to his instincts, refuses to run or fight.
He knows this, and his hands still twitch at his sides, desperate to reach up. Like he's a little kid who's broken his arm again, screaming for his mommy the way the Sully kids always did when they were hurt or scared, even though he's over that, he is, he--
"Mom," he chokes out, like a good son. Like a good boy, his daddy's good boy, his mama's.
"Oh--" Paz Socorro crashes to her knees in the dirt, throws her arms around him before he has a chance to react. "Oh, dios mio." Pulling him close, muscled arms digging into his back, she smells like Quaritch had in the woods, blood and polish, sweat and dirt, gunmetal and smoke--but instead of Quaritch's sharp cologne there's a softer smell of conditioner, shampoo.
"Baby." She pulls him back to look him over and tears well in her eyes--because of the scar or the tewng, he can't be sure. "Oh, baby. My baby.” Pulling close again as she sobs in his ear, her tears dampening his hair and washing down his back like rain.
"It's okay," Spider says, arms wrapped around her sides instead of going for a knife or a gun like he should. "It's okay, Mom." It's a lie, and it's the only truth left in his fucked-up world. "I'm here."
