Whats your opinion of the Rise community’s impression of 2012 splinter? For me I think he’s a very nice guy just unprepared like bro just got shoved four children
Uh this was random
I just want to make a note of something:
I’ve spent so long trying to come up with a response to this because I can think of some people who are pretty deep in the RISE fandom who are like “2012Splints ain’t that bad tho”. So addressing the entire fandom is actually more difficult than it sounds concerning Splinter.
So instead of addressing the entire community, which would put many people in boxes that they don’t fit in, I’m going to use this Ask to make a statement about the whole Rise VS 2012 debate.
So my firm opinion that I will give is this:
You cannot forgive Rise Splinter without forgiving 2012 Splinter.
And for the 2012 Fandom:
You cannot understand 2012 Splinter without understanding Rise.
You cannot say that you honestly grasp the extent of one trauma/depression without acknowledging the existence of the other. Both Splinters have similar building blocks of trauma (forcefully separated from someone who they love dearly, forced to fight for their lives for who knows how many weeks/months, forced to live/adapt to a body that’s not their own, and forced care for helpless mutant children on top of it all) but their ways of dealing with it are different ONLY because of their different upbringings.
Their traumas are the same but their history is different. (No, you can’t use the ‘well one is a struggling immigrant and the other isn’t’, because Yoshi literally grew up in Japan. He only moved to New York because that’s what Shen wanted. So he has more connection to his origins than Lou has. But that really is beside the point.)
Anyone can have the argument that they feel that one Splinter is the ‘lesser evil’ in this scenario. There are some pretty good debates for both sides, but you cannot claim to have any sort of proof that one Splinter loves his sons more than the other.
You can’t. It’s ignorant and untrue. And I stand by that.
After all, they both kept and raised four mutant children.
And I know that’s a pretty obvious piece of lore, but I don’t think most people truly realize just how monumental that is.
It’s hard enough to raise one child, and harder still two, but four mutant infants? All on your own while trying to manage a new body with no outside help of any kind- and dealing with the fact that their entire infant hood would be a guessing game of do I have any idea if this would hurt/kill the turtle side of them? Not to mention the patience it would take raising children with super strength and amazing abilities that most parents don’t have to deal with?
Four children- all with different mental capacities, all with the different dreams and desires, all the different wants and hates, all the different fears and struggles and tantrums, and you have to learn how to understand and raise all of those personalities (because toddlers absolutely have MASSIVE personalities) all at once.
All of the variables that came into raising them, all those reasons that would make life beyond difficult, all the temptation not to, and these men pilled with trauma and grief still looked at the tiny freaks of nature and went: Yeah. Yeah, I’ll be their dad.
Just like there are many different love languages, there are also many different ways of showing your love. RISE Splinter did it in the big ways while often neglecting the small, and 2012 Splinter did it in the small ways well often neglecting the big.
One man does not have worse trauma than the other.
One man does not have more love for his children.
You will never be able to convince me that you truly understand what 2012 has gone through but still hate him, if you cannot acknowledge that there might be a reason for you to hate Rise too.
If you cannot comprehend understanding/forgiving 2012 then I really don’t think you truly understand/forgive Rise either.
So, yeah. That’s my hot take, ig.

Ok so, what is Inver how can I read it gimmie the sales pitch pspsps pretty please
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
This is Inver! It is an alternate history northwest Europe
It's a play on the old region of Doggerland; the North-East Atlantic Archipelago* with sea levels reduced by a catastrophic past event that spread parts of the fairy world out into the real world. This Event also wiped out all human life in the area pictured above, leaving it uninhabited for hundreds of years before it was slowly settled again by people from the land bridge to Hibernia, and people coming up from Aquitan
Tumblr media
As a result of a war between these two groups of people and subsequent cultural exchange, Inver's dominant culture is a Hiberno-French mixture. Br*tain does not and has never existed.
The Event in Inver's history has still left large swathes of this land uninhabitable, with the only way east blocked by the Ruad, a hostile, labyrinthine, and largely impassible fairy territory. This has stifled the ability of these lands to produce much of value; Inver is a poor country, considered a kind of industrial backwater with a monarchy descended marauding werewolf war clans. This paragraph could last literally forever if I liked (and I did like. that's why there's books)
Inver's Régian Era, roughly equivalent to the Victorian era irl, is the stage for my main book series Moth Viper Foal (#mvf) (links are to the books & the tag on my art blog). It is an era of great change in Inver; much of the capital city is ruled by criminal gangs and a foreign church while the great noble houses, having lost touch with their people, turn on one another for sport. The story follows the sequence of events that ultimately results in catastrophic change for everybody in the region, and the dawn of a new era (that's as vague as i can make it)
But really it's about the (gay) struggles of outgrowing your relationships, setting higher standards for yourself, and all the various ways someone can fail to be a man. Main (POV) characters are three ex-conmen & one DLC extra nobleman. Before the start of the story, a catastrophic argument between two of the guys precedes one of them (Félix) getting kidnapped by the Black Horse, a fairy. He is returned five years later, a servant of the horse, to find that his friends (and ex-friends) have changed completely in his absence, and his old life is done for good.
I'm very bad at summaries so idk really. It's a story about interpersonal drama and friend breakups between some guys and also fairies are there. It's all i think about. Every other setting & post on this blog not about Inver was made as a kind of mental break from thinking about Inver. I've been working on it since 2019
you can check the overall tag to see posts from both my blogs including some very nice art and some absolutely heinous AUs (Pern Story among them??? maybe. idk if i tagged it)
also there's two more stories set in Inver, Ancient Inver which is a telling of the wars that founded the country and also an exploration of Being FTM, and also Modern Inver which is set in the distant future of 2017 and it's a buddy cop/detective thriller about a ranger investigating a series of supernatural kidnappings with the help of the guy who did most of them.

Mutant Mayhem spoilers
It’s such a small moment and maybe I just have brain rot or something but in the beginning when Splinter is talking abt why he hates humans it’s Mikey specifically that chimes in with that little “you don’t know that.” And just UGH
Even just by his tone you can tell that he knows his words aren’t going to change anything because they’ve had this conversation too many times. But also Mikey was the one Splinter almost lost that day, like if Splinter was any slower Mikey would’ve been gone.
And you just know in the minds of children Mikey equated their isolation from humans as being his fault because he almost got ran over as a baby.
Like I don’t wanna say it because sometimes leads to unnecessary angst, but children who grow up isolated from everyone else believing that they can’t confide in their parent often blame themselves for their parents decisions.
Donnie and Raph back talk and make fun of Splinter the most but Mikey does it like once and Leo does it never. So you can tell Leo and Mikey don’t get upset with their father, they get upset with themselves for the way things are and I just

Just thinking about 2003 turtles not being related to Hamato Yoshi in any way shape or form and how their last names are just "Splinterson" not Hamato
And how 2003 Splinter is literally the best father to the turtles because he is separated from generational trauma and actually attended to their needs

lila is literally jo (funny face) buying drinks for all those men who have no interest in listening to her, yet she's sitting there positively glowing completely unaware of the fact that she's being used. then when lila realises what's going on in the most violent way possible, she doesn't want to do anything ever again and expresses the desire to dissappear permanently. except she can't help it. she always has to be doing something. she always has to express herself as she is.

Sometimes I wonder if Leo’s instant latching onto Señor Hueso is due to the fact that Hueso is an older adult man (specifically a father at that) who, while fed up with Leo a lot of the time, still deigns to give him a modicum of attention.
Considering Leo’s a Leo, he craves that attention from a father figure, even if said attention isn’t positive. As long as he’s acknowledged, that’s enough for him, since he’s already used to being his own biggest (and often only) fan as is.
Luckily, Hueso does come around and (reluctantly) forms a connection with Leo as well, but again, I have to wonder if Leo picked out Hueso for a reason.

ROUGH (and kinda bad) RAPH DESIGN!!!
I'm kinda proud of this one, but I miight change the way the shell looks so it doesn't looks like it's just attached to his back...
───────﹒★﹒﹒──﹒﹒★﹒───────
Random data:
15 y/o
Technically the second oldest, alongside Donnie
They're twins, ur honor
Raph totally believes he's the oldest between the two of them
Yellow-bellied turtle!! The silly!!
He burnt his mask tails while cooking with Leo
Splinter wanted to give him new ones but Raph totally tought they looked way cooler like that
The bulkiest of them all
And surprisingly, not the shortest...
second tallest actually!! (5'5")
LOVES drawing
has a box full of old sketchbooks
...also a box full of stolen, punky clothes
He think he rocks that leather jacket...

Why was Kitsune smiling before she died in chapter 23? (pls dont take this as a rude question i genuinely wanna know-)
even in the face of her defeat, it was her way of having power over them.
even in her death, she'd already won. things can never go back to normal, they've made an eternal enemy of witch town, her shrine will be rebuilt and in the next few centuries she will return. their lives are fleeting, her existence is immutable. mikey screams in her face and she can only feel amusement-- for this small, pathetic creature to try to hold himself to the standards of gods.
there was not much she even had to say. she had said everything she needed to with leo, and now she knows if they take her down, she still wins. if she kills them, she still wins. regardless of the outcome, they've been broken and defeated. the lesson has been learned. even if donnie's alive, that's still the case.
and at the very end, she is still and unmovable as stone. her smile is the way of saying i don't regret it. compare that to donnie who's last words to mikey are i'm sorry, and to raph i forgive you. she never changes and she is in the wrong, and donnie destroyed himself when there was never anything about himself he truly had to change.

On a positive note why do you like 12 Raph?
He👏 is 👏 such👏 a 👏 mood! 👏
Anger is the WORST. When I’m stressed/anxious, my anger becomes my defense and I can be a real meanie to the people that I care about the most.
I’ve learned to control it as I’ve grown but MAN those days where it rears it’s ugly head because everything is too much to handle because I’m ✨terrified✨ of something inconsequential but it feels MASSIVE and I know it’s not massive but why doesn’t anyone understand that it’s MASSIVE-
The “nobody understands me” is so real for so many people.
Anger is not pretty. And it’s not always acceptable.
Everyone who cares about me has learned that you do not reason with the beast. You wait it out.
THAT IS TO SAY-
He’s so real for his anger. And his family is so real for the ways that they try to deal with it (to me). Splinter is just like my parents, fr, “Your anger is going to hurt people if you don’t use it the right way” AH and Raph takes his advice and applies it so well. And then he struggles all over again and it’s like YES!!!
Anger doesn’t just go away. Some people can apply given advice and control it with practice, for others, it haunts you forever and ever and is always lurking around the corner ready to pounce.
But Raph keeps trying! He keeps learning! He doesn’t give up!!
Despite his anger and his sass, Raph can be such a sweetheart.
The show doesn’t go out of its way to make him sweet. It’s in the small things that he does and the way he helps his bros and the way he makes himself their biggest supporter when they need one and their fiercest shield at all times and the few moments where he cooes over animals and the dreamy way he looks at Mona-
THE TEEN IS HUMAN. And it’s such a nice representation.
I like that he’s such a bitter, grumpy guy.
I love that he’s unapologetically himself and everyone around him only wants what’s best for him. He has so many issues and nobody hates him for it. He struggles with being angry but he also carries his anger with him because it’s the best offense that he knows.
In a world where you’re not allowed to blow up at your problems, watching Raph blow up at the world mends my soul. (😭)
And the best part is that it’s not always EXCUSABLE! He’s mean! He’s loud! He’s unnecessarily rude! There’s not always a valid reason to be any of those things! Anger isn’t going to come and go with the perfect reasons. Sometimes it’s just there and vile words tumble out and something breaks in your hands and you’re not trying to be crude but it’s been a long day and everyone won’t leave you alone.
The writers don’t handle him like he’s special or perfect.
At the end of the day, he’s only Mutant.
And I love that for him ❤️❤️
