Random ass thing I thought I wanted to assign every beast and ancient cookie their own Splatoon weapon/sub/special (looking into Splatoon 3 only) just in case I create my own crk/Splatoon au!!! (Also if you couldn't tell I'm not picking out specific kits just choosing whatever)

Pure Vanilla

Since he's a backline healer in crk I feel like he would play a more support role in Splatoon cuz you can't really play as a healer in the game which is why I've decided this weapon should be the Hydra splatling with a beacon sub and carrying an ink vac special weapon

Dark Cacao

Frontline cookie who carries a sword HELLO SPLATANA MAIN specifically splatana stamper for a sub I really think burst would work for him as burst bomb works well with basically everything and with special I'd go with zipcaster to help him get up the stairs faster (and I've just accidentally created the vanilla splatana stamper kit)

Hollyberry

Frontline cookie wielding a shield now before I get into anything she 100% has big bubbler as her special weapon now for main weapon I'd she her using a splat brella with splat bombs

Golden Cheese

She mains squiffer and you CANT change my mind and she uses big bubbler to ofc protect all her precious treasures with line marker idk why line marker sounds right for her

White Lily

Something about her gives explosher idk what it is but it just feels right followed by squid beakons to jump back into action just as soon as you get revived and finally wave breaker as her special weapon

Once again a backline healer in the game but I do believe she'll be more aggressive than pv so that's why she gets an eliter with inkstorm (the fog) with burst bombs

Part 1 - Melees

All Splatoon 3 kits because . I can . And Im to lazy to launch 2 on my switch or open inkapedia sO were going with the ones i have basically memorized from my competative days. That, and I did my best to match it up to both gameplay and personality!!! Its not perfect but hey, we balling.

Sword - Splatana Stamper Nouveau

Toxic Mist, Crab Tank

A decently close range powerful weapon. Splatana Stamper Nouveau was the best pick I landed on for Sword because of its kit. I was originally going to do vanilla chainsaw as it had higher movement, but I ended up going with the Nouveau chainsaw because of Crab Tank. Like Swords phinisher, it requires the user to jump out of the way and find a safe spot to launch the attack from, as well as incapacites them for a short while. Toxic Mist over Burst Bomb was also a difficult choice to make, but in the end, Crab Tank was to tempting, thought I do think Burst Bomb is more in character. However, with Stampers natural poking playstyle and manuveribility, its frontal reckoning force and very straightforward playstyle, I think this is the weapon Sword would choose to main in Splatoon 3. (I was pretty sold on Sword using Splatanas as his main weapon class, but I can also see him using short range Shooters as his secondary, like Splooshomatic!!)

Skateboard - Octobrush

Suction Bomb, Zipcaster

Another close range weapon, but it prioritizes movement and trickery in order to get your opponunts where you want them. See the resemblence? Yeah. Vanilla Octobrush was the kit that yelled at me the most for Skateboard in particular- its a rather rowdy weapon on the field, but its sneaky and unassuming until it gets close. And often, it will get close and you won't see it if their good. Zipcaster as well as Suction Bomb both seem to fit Skateboard's vibe as well, both being precise and timing based, with high priority in movement and chip damage. It moves freely without restraint, zipping around the field and muddling information and causing chaos. Perfect for Skateboard. Secondary weapons - Inkbrush and Carbon Roller!

Biograft - Dapple Duelies Nouveau

Torpedo, Reef Slider

Extremely close range duelies made to dive, poke, locate and display the enemy front line? Hello Biograft, how are you? I picked Dapple Duelies Nouveau over its more competetively viable varient Dark Tetra Duelies for one reason - Range. Biograft is extremely close range- its the epitome of timing and diving with team coordination. And since Biograft doesnt really have a personality due to being. A robot. I went straight for this duelie specifically. Its special is a literal dive element- you go in, explode, and try not to die on the way out. It just makes the most sense to me- but Dark Tetras are definitely a good secondary, as well as Duelie Squelchers!

Katana - Mint Decavitator

Suction Bomb, Big Bubbler

What, you wanted me to not pick the katana inspired weapon for Katana???? Like its right there. What do you want from me?? Seriously though, I chose Mint Decavitator for Katana for a few reasons- its slower paced playstyle, its skirmish-tank hybrid type, and its ability to poke all seemed very remeniscent of Katana. Its a precise weapon, one that requires time and dedication to hone its full potential as a weapon. It can stand its own in situations where many other skirmishers would fall, requiring timing and effort in order to be effective in battle. It all feels very Katana, the slow precision and the careful yet almost mournful kind of feeling. Secondaries go to Jet Squelcher and Squiffer!

Ban Hammer - Dynamo Roller

Sprinker, Tacticooler

Yeah ok this one is obvious if you've ever played Splatoon and Phighting. But I spent a lot of time debating between this one or the gold one- and I ended up settling on vdynamo because it felt sillier. See, Ban Hammer is, well, full of himself. Hes powerful, yes, don't get me wrong, but the wiki outright states that he has a habit of overselling himself and accidently looking down on other phighters who just kinda scoff at him and he doesnt really notice. So what if I gave him the weapon that requires more team play? Tacticooler, a special entirely designed around buffing ones team, and sprinkler, and Area of Denial or paintbot sub? With Ban Hammer??? It was just to funny to think about. Hed use both so selfishly, and honestly that just feels so in character so yah. Secondaries are obviously Gold dynamo and Big Swig!!

Happy Mar13 day! I don’t have anything super big/special, but finally working on some designs for corrupted versions of each palette user, based on an idea from @spaceistheplaceart.

Some notes and stuff under cut!

Technically all this design stuff is for my Tranquility AU, which is part of my The More Things Change storyline. I still need to make a post about the latter, and tbh Tranquility is mostly scattered thoughts that I yell at my friends. The AU is an alternate take on Side Order, being more storymode-like. A little akin to Octo Expansion I guess?

A few palettes have been swapped out as a result, for prominent characters in that storyline.

Octavio’s palette is the same, but the character is swapped out for Olivia. In TMTC, she is an Octoling foot soldier, who ultimately escapes the underground as a result of listening to a Squid Sisters tape

Murch’s is swapped out for a Classic Squiffer palette for my version of Agent 3, Violet

Sheldon’s is swapped for Cherry, featuring the Painbrush instead of Octobrush.

All the corrupted user designs feature the parallel mask, and their limbs have a capsule like effect with bones inside. Each outfit also has the motif of bones!

3. weapon of choice? any particular reason they chose their weapon?

(this is a perfect question as ive been playing more splatoon 3 recently so i actually have a feel for the weapons i want my characters to use hihi + ill just list all of the ones i currently have chosen weapons for!)

turns out, this post grew way longer than i thought it would so uh woe read more be upon you

Arsenic:

Definitely Splatana Wiper as main and (Luna) Blaster as secondary, he has a quick and agressive playstyle so these are the weapons he usually goes for (also his aim is absolute dog with chargers and splatlings are a little bulky and slow for him, he can use shooters when needed but he doesnt find them interesting to play)

Link:

Probably sticks with a vanilla Splat Charger, likes to play support/backline but still pressures the opposite team quite a bit whilst staying out of fire himself. Other than his proficiency with his main weapon he probably has some practice in with other weapon classes as well. (This is because he works for Ammo Knights hihi)

I'd imagine him being kind of well known for his absolutely bonkers k/d ratio because of his high awareness playstyle but he would definitely have the dumbest deaths in practice :')

Zel:

Zel is a HUGE fan of heavy weaponry like this woman is absolutely insane about them and practices every single one she can get her hands on but her main weapon of choice in battle would probably be a Dynamo Roller or a Nautilus when she's feeling extra silly... as for why its mainly because it helps her stay physically strong and uhhh lifting super heavy weapon in practice means she doesnt have to go to the gym often

A4:

Definitely shooter class weapons, probably sticks to something like an N-Zap, Splash-o-Matic, Splattershot and Splattershot Pro but is quite handy with a Squiffer when needed. I imagine at some point A4 and Link would switch roles just before a match to confuse the opponent (very silly behaviour)

BONUS!!!!!!!! These are characters which i havent really thought of in a competitive sense or havent developed yet

itll be very messy going forward mainly because i want to yap so hard about these little inkfish thumbs up

Fern:

Fern doesn't really play that much but would probably prefer Dualies, not sure which but she'd probably switch it up sometimes

Violet:

Brella 100% (i dont know how to explain it i just feel it in my bones) her Brella would probably be decorated to the max literally her pride and joy (also known as her favourite fashion accessory as she's too busy with her job to actually use it in battle :( boowomp)

Amber: (<- Arsenic's younger sister!!!)

Brella/Bucket, i haven't really thought of her in battle but she'd probably just mess around a ton lol

Ise Rotag:

Ise was originally the character that was Link's like future partner??? their story was really nice but he got replaced by Arsenic after i abandoned the two for a few months and decided to revive Link again (you will see Ise more btw i fucking love his design and cuntyness) FOR THE WEAPON! Probably an Inkbrush honestly this guy loves to be annoying and sneak up on backliners when they least expect it, plays very aggressively as well... also his name has a really funny origin and if youre able to guess it ill uhh idk good job

I have 3 other characters but they all dont have names so uhm yeah ill just go quickly through these

oc based on coroika, inkling, probably something backline, dont imagine them in battle often

waiter, octoling, grim blaster (or so me from 2 years ago wrote down)

shut-in, inkling, new squiffer (again according to notes left to their design drawings)

2&3 were together and 1 was a sona for shits and giggles but uh theyll come back someday!! i promise!!! like their designs and relationship dynamics too much!!! they might even be Ise's new teammates!!!

ultimately its just so fucking satisfying to one-shot-kill someone with both weapons & thats 100% built into the weapon design too, i've always said that half the reason i love the squiffer is bc the sound/haptic feedback when you charge-kill someone makes you feel like you popped a bubble. & then mentally it's like Ooooh u thought you could chase me down huh. u thought u could get your grimy little squid hands on me huh just because my weapon takes time to charge. Bitch i am Fast and Accurate #Skill!!!!!!!!!!!!!

the sniper's only challenge was a ton of fun! here's some clips compiling my snipes from it (squiffer clips first, then e-liter). i did two blocks: one with exclusively e-liter (scoped), and another with squiffer.

despite thinking i'd do better with the e-liter, i actually got a higher score with squiffer! turns out it's easier to win when you can actually get on the tower and stay there. we're so back squiffy!!! 🎉

Splatoon Weapons (Random Edition) 🔫

Cuphead: Emperry Splat Dualies; Of course with having finger guns, I thought dualies would be perfect for him, but I picked the Emperry ones because of the triple splashdown. I just think that special fits his character so well.

Hikari Kagura: Lowkey I can see her with an Undercover Brella. Probably Undercover Sorella Brella because the Reefslider mixed with the Ink Mine doesn't really fit her.

March 7th: REEF-LUX 450 Deco; I have to give my girl a stringer, I just had to. Imagine this bitch ramming in with the Reefslider. 🤣

Shinobu Kocho: I was going to give her a charger (New Squiffer) but then I remembered: this bitch is fast! She's speedy, so I was gonna give her one of the Inkbrush until I remembered the Carbon Roller and how much trolling I do with it. Easy answer, no doubts with this one.

Snow White: Hard one, but I went with the Splattershot because it's the only shooter with Trizooka and a good bomb. (The Squeezer sucks ass and she deserves the best 😤)

Gyomei Himejima: Now I was gonna put the obvious one: Dynamo Roller. Big man, heavy weapon, lots of damage, but hear me out: Tenta Brella. Good for damage while also protecting your allies. Fits him so well.

Natasha: Heavy Splatling; I was gonna put the Explosher because of how her gun works, but the Heavy Splating looks more like her gun. Heavy Edit Splating was the only one with the Tacticooler, but the Wave Breaker still helps as support.

Amy Rose: Dynamo Roller; small girl, big weapon, lots of damage. Better fit than Gyomei.

Lopera: Custom Dualie Squelchers; reminds me of her guns, and also the Squid Beacon is kinda military-esque.

Elphelt Valentine: Z+F Splat Charger; the original Splat Brella didn't really fit well with her personality, so I gave her a charger because of the rifle she has. Also, Triple Inkstrike with her feels so dirty.

Peacock: Splash-o-matic; I just want to see her tiny ass in the Crab Tank shooting and blowing people up.

DJ Music Man: .96 Gal Deco; Fits his aesthetic, but also the Kraken Royale goes hard on this man.

Neon: Rapid Blaster; While it doesn't bring the firepower she wants, the Inkjet does. (I know Brellas are supposed to resonate shotguns but this feels like the better option)

Genya Shinazugawa: Sorella Brella; like father figure, like adopted son. Brellas are shotguns, and the regular brellas are the closest to his sawed-off shotgun, not too heavy, not too light.

y'know i thought i was better at duelies but was still playing squiffer anyway cuz i thought it was fun but when it was time to do rank up battles y'know i hadta take it seriously so i switched to tetras and after losing the first match i was like huh either i'm outta practice with duelies (which is a good chance considering i've been tryna grind for 5 star squiffer) or i'm better at squiffer than i thought i was. cuz i was struggling with them

i splatooned them (and because i cannot stop once i start, there’s an Extreme amount of au nonsense under the cut.)

general stuff: very important to me that Carpenter is an octoling and Faulkner is an inkling. there’s a whole thing about octarians forced into a life of combat in splat2n and that fits very well for her i think. while Faulkner as an inkling is like “yeah turf wars!! so much fun :)” and has not experienced The Horrors. but he will.

Carpenter’s purple specifically is not the purple that fights against Faulkner’s yellow - hers is teamed up against orange. likewise, Faulkner’s yellow does fight a (slightly) different shade of purple. visually, they’re not quite enemies… but it’s very close.

the Lore: most of Carpenter’s reservations come from inkling culture primarily revolving around combat. their main sources of entertainment are fighting in a variety of ways, or simulating combat via card games. she wants to distance herself from that, but finds herself unable to. she believed that escaping would lead to a life without fighting, but instead, the inklings above have turned it into play, something that seems unshakably wrong to her.

meanwhile, Faulkner embraces all these aspects of inkling culture because he grew up with them, and thus has difficulty understanding why Carpenter doesn’t want to pretend to kill people for fun. he’s never experienced a splat without a subsequent respawn, and the idea of permanent death is not something that’s ever really occurred to him, the violence just being a nebulous Thing that wastes a few seconds at worst.

weapons: Carpenter initially struck me as a sniper (hence the images) even though in-canon she’s had some up close and personal combat encounters. on second thought i think she’d flip around various choices but prefer things with range and speed, hence the sniping lean. in the screenshots i gave her the Classic Squiffer because the special is the Big Bubbler, which i think fits her character. though granted i can see her with pretty much any of the subs and specials - except the Booyah Bomb.

that’s where Faulkner comes in, i very much see him as a roller or brush user, mostly cause of the grin your character gets when you’re moving with it active. however, none of those have the Booyah Bomb as a special, which sucks for this cause i think that’s the closest analogy to the Withermark. that being said, the Octobrush Nouveau has ink storm, which is probably second closest. if he has to choose a shooting weapon, i think he’d go with dualies, so for that i assign him the Glooga dualies because that’s got the Booyah Bomb. and also, the Booyah Bomb being powered by the primary form of verbal approval in this universe? and how much he wants to be approved of? it fits.

also idk where else to say this but another special that exists is the Crab Tank which. horrifying if seriously applied to tsv. luckily this is a lighthearted au with nothing at all bad happening to its protagonists <- lying

clothes: choice was less in the stats and more in the style (hence why i cropped the stats out lol). Carpenter gets an earring, jean jacket, and black boots cause that’s what i’ve settled on as my s1 design for her. Faulkner gets a cap, hoodie, and shoes for similar reasons - i unfortunately do not have rainboots to put squid him in, so i settled for hi-tops. he cannot escape the Short, not even like this.

if we have to make stat choices though, Carpenter leans towards Quick Respawn and Faulkner leans towards a Special Charge Up/Special Power Up combo. Carpenter tends to do things ranged and so doesn’t have to worry about getting hit - but if she does go down, she comes back quickly. meanwhile Faulkner is chucking out specials left and right and gets splatted many, many times by being agressive.

splashtags: Faulkner starting out with the “The One And Only Chosen One” title but eventually changing it to something less ostentatious once he meets Carpenter. badges are a 5-star weapon badge, a silver eggstra work badge, and a gold tableturf badge. not picky about the banner choice, could be a Salmon Run exclusive one or just one he pulled from shell-out that looked cool

Carpenter meanwhile has at least one 5-star weapon badge and the After Alterna badge. her third is either another 5-star badge or a golden badge for splatfest. i think choosing an impressive title would make her cringe so she goes with something like “Dead-Tired Octarian”. for banner, the one with the swordfish on it.

there are matching “Bro” and “Sis” splashtags and i think it’d be cute if later on, Faulkner tried to get them to match. it would take some “please please please”ing but she’d come around and go for it.

tableturf: they play tableturf together a lot and Faulkner is very proud of his card collection while Carpenter’s just glad to be doing something that doesn’t involve getting shot at for fun.

lockers: Carpenter has put a decent amount of thought into her locker, trying to get it all to look nice and have some stylistic consistency. Meanwhile Faulkner just crams every trophy into there in a horrible mass.

salmon run: Carpenter used to do a lot of Salmon Run, got gold on Eggstra Work once, but has stopped for the most part and only joins in if Faulkner needs help. Faulkner does quite a lot of Salmon Run, despite his weapons niche. His rating is generally in flux, but always remains at least Overachiever+.

the main modes: Carpenter tends to stay out of these unless Faulkner needs her help. Faulkner plays a little more than an average amount of Turf War, and his favorite Anarchy mode is Rainmaker. do not let him throw the football in Clam Blitz. he will miss horribly and sulk about it later.

splatfests: because Splatfests are a time for celebration, Carpenter participates in them far more than any other mode. she and Faulkner sometimes choose the same team, but it’s not a major deal for them because the likelihood of them ending up fighting in the same round is low. neither of them are really sure what they’d do if it happened.
