ted's little speech making me CRY. Like...if there's one thing that's been surreal about this whole show its how the portrayal of the various divorces are so.....smooth...in comparison to my childhood experience. This is like the daydream versin of what child me would have preferred divorce to be.

Seriously ted and his (ex?) wife dont hate each other, there's no yelling, there's no screaming, there's no physical violence. They aren't using their kid as a pawn to get back at the other. They aren't making that boy live out of a suitcase and shuffle between them like a shared toy every week.

Even the blonde boss lady and her husband are very calm about it all, though she definitely hates him. And i think she internalizes a lot of rage. But she doesnt lash out or do anything that actually seriously would hurt her ex husband physically/mentally/emotionally etc. And they dont even have kids! And yet they're still semi functional.

It just...watching it feels fake to me LOL. Like no way this is real. in my mind Divorce is ugly, nasty and brutal, its not whatever this show is.

Some of my earliest memories are sneaking to sit at the top of the stairs listening to my parents scream and scream and scream at each other after i was supposedly 'asleep'. That was just...normal.

I think a lot of the people i dated over the years didnt understand that i was never looking for that forever romance stuff - i just wanted someone who wouldnt turn cruel and violent if things did end. All that romance novel type love is great but to me its not the stuff that matters - what matters is what the person will be like AFTER it fades, and all you're left with is the 'i care about you but im not in LOVE love with you' type love. Those are the hard years and ive seen it when it gets ugly :/

Tldr: i am joining the probably very long line of women willing to marry ted hahaha.

Y'know what's absolutely wild Abt my parents. They raised my brothers to be good guys. Like respect consent and not excuse bad behavior bc they're boys and everything. And they are! They're good kids! Ones going gru a bit of a teen phase but rlly he's still a good kid.

Tell me WHY my parents will still default to the assumption that boys can be pushy and touchy and break people's consent and stuff. Like I get wanting to make sure everything's chill and whatever but. Holy shit you RAISED these boys you Know they wouldn't act like that you raised them!!!!!
