which civilization had the greatest metallurgical skill/knowledge? which civilization had the best metallurgy? which civilization had the best geological potential for metallurgical prowess?
#part of a series of questions i have for trying to solve 'why industrial capitalism in the west when it did'#i THINK the answer is some combination of capacity for metallurgy; some pathway for electricity generation (most obvious ways seem#the way it did; steam engines for getting water out of coal mine (b/c this takes care of the wagon equation)#or with hydropower tho i'm less confident on that--that might require too much high precision machinery)#some way to use those two to get to high precision machining; and then you might also need a HUGE capital dump in order to get political#liberalization (because you need some way to get out of Holy Roman Empire levels of friction -- I think this might have been some of the#issues that China + Italy had with getting industrialization quickly)#england is fucking weird; it had political liberalism BEFORE it became a naval power iirc#france makes sense because Louis XIV was a steamroller that cleared out most of the old growth and the Revolution took care of the rest#i'm pretty happy laying the blame for the Revolution as a combination of ineffectual poltiical forces and climate but i haven't checked#HRE had to wait for napoleon to bulldoze the feudal power structures; in Italy I think it took unification;#Russia has similar known causes#I think Spain/Portugal had a case of getting too rich too quickly? not sure.#that mostly takes care of europe; 'why didn't the nords do industrial capitalism' is still an open question to me#same thing with the ottomans#elsewhere in the world I don't know enough about

THE WORLD'S FIRST ELECTRIC ROLLER COASTER
Granville T. Woods (April 23, 1856 – January 30, 1910) introduced the “Figure Eight,” the world's first electric roller coaster, in 1892 at Coney Island Amusement Park in New York. Woods patented the invention in 1893, and in 1901, he sold it to General Electric.
Woods was an American inventor who held more than 50 patents in the United States. He was the first African American mechanical and electrical engineer after the Civil War. Self-taught, he concentrated most of his work on trains and streetcars.
In 1884, Woods received his first patent, for a steam boiler furnace, and in 1885, Woods patented an apparatus that was a combination of a telephone and a telegraph. The device, which he called "telegraphony", would allow a telegraph station to send voice and telegraph messages through Morse code over a single wire. He sold the rights to this device to the American Bell Telephone Company.
In 1887, he patented the Synchronous Multiplex Railway Telegraph, which allowed communications between train stations from moving trains by creating a magnetic field around a coiled wire under the train. Woods caught smallpox prior to patenting the technology, and Lucius Phelps patented it in 1884. In 1887, Woods used notes, sketches, and a working model of the invention to secure the patent. The invention was so successful that Woods began the Woods Electric Company in Cincinnati, Ohio, to market and sell his patents. However, the company quickly became devoted to invention creation until it was dissolved in 1893.
Woods often had difficulties in enjoying his success as other inventors made claims to his devices. Thomas Edison later filed a claim to the ownership of this patent, stating that he had first created a similar telegraph and that he was entitled to the patent for the device. Woods was twice successful in defending himself, proving that there were no other devices upon which he could have depended or relied upon to make his device. After Thomas Edison's second defeat, he decided to offer Granville Woods a position with the Edison Company, but Woods declined.
In 1888, Woods manufactured a system of overhead electric conducting lines for railroads modeled after the system pioneered by Charles van Depoele, a famed inventor who had by then installed his electric railway system in thirteen United States cities.
Following the Great Blizzard of 1888, New York City Mayor Hugh J. Grant declared that all wires, many of which powered the above-ground rail system, had to be removed and buried, emphasizing the need for an underground system. Woods's patent built upon previous third rail systems, which were used for light rails, and increased the power for use on underground trains. His system relied on wire brushes to make connections with metallic terminal heads without exposing wires by installing electrical contactor rails. Once the train car had passed over, the wires were no longer live, reducing the risk of injury. It was successfully tested in February 1892 in Coney Island on the Figure Eight Roller Coaster.
In 1896, Woods created a system for controlling electrical lights in theaters, known as the "safety dimmer", which was economical, safe, and efficient, saving 40% of electricity use.
Woods is also sometimes credited with the invention of the air brake for trains in 1904; however, George Westinghouse patented the air brake almost 40 years prior, making Woods's contribution an improvement to the invention.
Woods died of a cerebral hemorrhage at Harlem Hospital in New York City on January 30, 1910, having sold a number of his devices to such companies as Westinghouse, General Electric, and American Engineering. Until 1975, his resting place was an unmarked grave, but historian M.A. Harris helped raise funds, persuading several of the corporations that used Woods's inventions to donate money to purchase a headstone. It was erected at St. Michael's Cemetery in Elmhurst, Queens.
LEGACY
▪Baltimore City Community College established the Granville T. Woods scholarship in memory of the inventor.
▪In 2004, the New York City Transit Authority organized an exhibition on Woods that utilized bus and train depots and an issue of four million MetroCards commemorating the inventor's achievements in pioneering the third rail.

I just finished rereading The Lost Hero and here are some notable things and stuff I’d forgotten:
Will had a quiver of arrows on his back when the trio arrived at camp- so his characterization was changed for BoO
Mr. D left a veritable forest of grapevines in the living room ‘to remember him by’
All the Hephaestus kids have Murphy beds except for Beckendorf/ Leo
3 Hypnos kids
Rachel has a prophecy pit crew that get her a stool and take care of her when she swoons from oracle business
Annabeth made an oath on the Styx to Jason not to tell anyone yet about Thalia being his sister
Piper is a really quick thinker
Jason is very good at reading people
Leo wishes Madea goes back to the fields of punishment “where she belonged” (resentful lil guy 💕)
Leo DID get to attend his mother’s funeral, glad to hear
In the 5th grade Leo made a ‘steam powered chicken chucker’ as a science project (precursor to the chicken nugget smoke screen mayhaps)
At least 12 Hephaestus kids at camp
At this point summoning lightning almost makes Jason pass out
There’s a parallel of Lityerses not being able to beat Jason’s Roman style sword fighting and the Romans not knowing how to combat Percy’s Greek style in SoN
Jason jokingly calls someone ‘General Eisenhower’, so a hint about him having military knowledge and knowing it so well he uses it as insults/jokes
He recognizes TV news broadcasts, so he prob watches those
Jason vaguely recognizes Piper’s dad in a picture because he has seen him in some movies
Piper calls Hedge by his first name by the end?? Leo uses Tempest as a power source- just plugs an electric saw into him and vroom vroom
Jason fought two different giants in the same day and both times literally went “guess I’ll die”
Jason refers to himself a praetor of the First Legion, though it is officially called the Twelfth Legion. Unclear if this is a mistake/ oversight or if it relates to Jason’s desire to change the Legion’s name that is later mentioned in SoN. Probably a mistake since it’s not brought up again to clear it up
Jason got back most of his memories, except for the location of Camp Jupiter (or the name actually)
Piper sleeps (at least once) with her dagger under her pillow
There’s a reference to 2009 and 2010 Party Ponies events
Hedge is Piper’s dad’s life coach
Piper tells Jason she’d follow him anywhere, paralleling how Frank later says he’d follow Percy anywhere
Chiron calls Lupa his ‘counterpart’
Leo was the one to figure out that Jason and Percy had been exchanged by Hera but then the story makes him forget this by the end to let Jason be the one to explicitly deliver that info??

Two 650-foot-tall (200-m) towers have risen in China's Gansu Province. Combined with an array of 30,000 mirrors arranged in concentric circles, the new facility is expected to generate over 1.8 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity every year.
While photovoltaic panels that directly convert sunlight to electricity are what most people think of when they hear the term "solar power," there is another method of harvesting the Sun's power that's been steadily developing since the early 1980s. Known as solar thermal or concentrated solar power (CSP), these systems rely on mirrors known as heliostats to bounce sunlight to a central gathering point. There, the concentrated beams heat a transfer fluid that in turn heats a working fluid. This fluid then evaporates, turns a turbine, and generates electricity.
In 2014, what was then the world's largest solar thermal power station opened in the Mojave Desert in the United States. [The] facility consists of three different towers surrounded by heliostat arrays and has a capacity of 392 megawatts. [...] The world's largest CSP, the Noor Complex Solar Power Plant, now operates in the Sahara Desert in Morocco where it churns out 510 megawatts of power.[...]
Much like the facility in the US, the Ghazhou solar thermal energy storage project will use multiple towers: in this case, two of them, both sharing the same steam turbine.
But unlike the US facility, where each tower is surrounded by its own field of heliostats, the Chinese project will deploy a field of mirrors set in overlapping concentric circles. The mirrors will then be able to follow the path of the Sun and reflect light to either tower in the most efficient way possible. It's an advance that will improve CSP efficiency significantly, says project manager, Wen Jianghong.
"The mirrors in the overlapping area can be utilized by either tower," he said. "This configuration is expected to enhance efficiency by 24 percent." Helping that efficiency along is the fact that the mirrors being used have a 94% reflection efficiency, meaning that most of the solar energy that hits them is beamed back to the power-producing towers.

What powers the Gerald Ford aircraft carrier?
The Gerald R. Ford (CVN-78) aircraft carrier is powered by two A1B nuclear reactors, which provide enough electricity to power a small city. The reactors are designed to provide a constant flow of power to the ship's systems, including its propulsion, air conditioning, and electronic systems.
The A1B reactor is a pressurized water reactor, similar to those used in many commercial nuclear power plants. It uses enriched uranium as fuel and produces steam, which drives a turbine to generate electricity. The reactor is surrounded by a containment building and multiple safety layers to prevent accidents and protect the crew.
The Gerald R. Ford's nuclear reactors are designed to provide a reliable and efficient source of power for the ship, allowing it to stay at sea for extended periods of time without needing to refuel or re-supply. The reactors also provide a significant advantage in terms of stealth, as they produce no visible smoke or exhaust plumes, making it harder for enemy radar and sensors to detect the ship.

I know this is totally missing the point of everything you do but………any tips for oxygen not included?
Same as any management sim, the most important thing to control is your population. It's gonna be tempting to get as many lil guys as you can. Don't. Only get what you can support.
Algae Terrariums seem like a good deal but they're not. You'll be forever refilling the stupid things. Just rely on diffusers until you can move onto electrolyzers, which you should do as soon as possible.
Find a water or steam geyser and both natural gas geysers as soon as you can, and use them to generate oxygen and power. You can set up 'self-powered' oxygen generation by using the hydrogen produced by the electrolyzers but personally I don't think it's worth the trouble. Once you have both natural gas geysers (and can build natural gas generators), electricity won't be a problem for the rest of the game; if you ever need more, it'll be after you have solar panel tech. You can just pump the waste CO2 directly into space (or stick it in bottles for now if you haven't dug that high).
Don't train your dupes in skills they don't use or need, or you're just making it harder to keep them happy for no reason. You only need one artist, for example.
I like to build a dusk cap farm as soon as possible and feed them just mushrooms for most of the game. It takes 3 dusk cap plots to feed 1 dupe (1.5 plots if you fry the mushrooms). My farms look like this:
Tumblr media
The farm naturally fills with CO2 and is very low-maintenance. I like to put my kitchen directly above it if I'm not bothering to cook so dupes can grab food and eat right away. These farms do use slime so you'll run out eventually but by then you're very late into the game and can just harvest all the various plants naturally around the map for free.
I play a very chill game so this probably isn't great advice. There's a lot of strategies out there created by people who pay close attention to gas pressure and the thermal insulation of various materials and I am not one of those player.

The inner workings of Boothill
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Trying to dissect him so, hear me out. (not too much tho, i'm not a car expert I just like looking stuff up)
I'd like to think he's powered by something similar to hydrogen instead of liquid fuel because;
This game has really advanced technology, so for someone like Boothill to still use the the 'old' fueling method would make less sense
The hole on his back is expose and if he had liquid fuel in him instead of compressed gas it would just...get everywhere. Not electric either because the fuel port only have 1 big hole as opposed to multiple small ones
No emissions this way, sure there's still steam but no harmful gasses and I think he'd prefer it that way.
It just makes a lot more sense for him to have a fuel cell instead of a fuel tank. Before I get into the more general headcanons I have I want to briefly explain how a hydrogen car is powered -
who am i kidding, this is a headcanon post not a chemistry class
oxygen + hydrogen go IN ⇒ energy + water come OUT
moving on;
I like to think looking after his body is something he takes a lot of pride in doing. It keeps him rooted and if anything goes wrong he'd figured it out fast
Has a temperature regulator close to his collarbone to regulate this head's temperature (since he doesn't have a body anymore). Takes in heat from the fuel cell and also has a coolant line running through it to adjust the temp.
He prefers mixing his own coolant using antifreeze and water over buying the premade stuff. Gives him more control over what goes into him and he just likes to keep tabs on everything about his body.
Distilled water only. Demineralized water? fudge no, and don't even think about suggesting tap water
Not too picky about the color but prefers blue, just makes it easier to check for leaks (yellow makes it look like he peed himself and red is, well, blood)
Flushes the reservoir once a year even thought that's not necessary. He just had it go bad once (the sickly sweet smell covered him for days) so he's not willing to take any risks
Doesn't need oil on the inside since the fuel cell has no moving parts but he does need lube for his joints. Has a preference for synthetic oil so yes, he still smells like oil. rejoice.
He takes in oxygen from various parts of his body and also expels a lot of vapor during fights, it's partly why he wears such little clothes.
The main inlets are the small holes under his chest but sorta outwards? These ones
Tumblr media
And the holes in his hands as well. If you happen to touch those parts you'd feel some suction but he will get mad so maybe don't do that
Other less notable inlets are his chest + ab plates. They move apart slightly and can take in air if needed, but due to how much he moves around they're not that reliable, it's just a safety net.
He can store a small oxygen tank if he ventures anywhere with none of it (like in water or just on a planet with no air) but it limits his movements so he prefers not to.
As for the exhaust, it comes out from between the silver plate on his back.
Usually it's just low pressure steam. People wouldn't even notice it
but when he get's in a fight, he consumes more fuel, so steam can come out full force and hot enough to cause third degree burns to the unfortunate soul standing behind him.
If you listen closely you'll here his air inlets making noise too, it's why he gets very noise during battles.
It's hard for him to go stealth mission like this so he has a feature to block the exhaust when needed, it cools the steam down into water and stores it until he has time to empty it out.
In colder places he just straight up starts dripping water down his back when fighting. Yes it's safe to drink, no you can't lick his back maybe if you ask nicely he'll let y-
ps: DON'T drink water from a hydrogen car. The water itself is initially drinkable (literally just pure H2O) but by the time it comes out it's already been in contact with the inside of the exhaust pipe and you don't know what kinda dust/gunk gets in there.
Tumblr media
any car experts/enthusiasts feel free to correct me lol. Everything here is just from 3 hours of surface level research

Eaurp Guz's roughly 1:30 scale live-steam model of Slaibsgloth Coal Railroad No.32, a ~1.6 meter gauge 2-8-8-2 garratt steam locomotive built on planet Mellanus in (earth-)year 2346 and retired in 2379 (two years ago) for service bringing coal carriages from the coal pits up to the interchange at the Glooiw & North Eastern. It is unusual for a coal burning steam engine to remain in revenue service--the majority that remained in use after the development of Diesel-Hydraulics were decommissioned with nuclear-powered railway electrification in the 2360s, and the ones that remained were mostly converted to oil burning. The Slaibsgloth steam engines meanwhile persisted right up until the closure of the coal mine. Glooiw & North Eastern has acquired the 40 locomotives. Their fates are uncertain but railway preservation groups remain optimistic.
When Guz first came aboard the Cerritos she was overworking herself constantly, which lead to her being so tired that she was leaving residues on the consoles and generally doing sloppier work. It turned out that Guz had been working double shifts, and when Billups found out he put a stop to that. That's when Guz turned to a hobby she'd done a lot of before joining starfleet--model rocketry. Armed with far more advanced tools than she'd had on Mellanus, she made accurate working model replicas of real historical prewarp spacecraft from a variety of planets and would fly them in real space whenever possible.
Eventually, she also found a new appreciation for her childhood love of trains, and her model-making skills and tools translated well to model railroading as well. She has a little shelf layout in storage that she occasionally tinkers with, and she runs large scale model trains on the holodeck. She could run full-scale holographic trains on the holodeck too of course, but it wouldn't be nearly as satisfying. And then there's the 1:5600 scale BM-gauge railroad she's building on a microscope slide! (Bµ gauge is "Byte micrometer" gauge or a track spacing of 256 µm)
Guz eventually wants to build a roughly 1:80 scale modular layout of the Slaibsgloth Coal Mine, with smaller scale electric-powered models of the Slaibsgloth coal-burning steam engines and enough track to wrap around a room and give them a good run, but unless she can rally support for a Cerritos chapter of the Starfleet Rail Transport Modelling Club or she can get her own crew quarters, it's a pipe dream--or maybe something for her retirement.
Replicators and advanced computer aided design tools reduce the amount of time it takes to get modelling projects done by whatever factor is desired. Technically Guz could probably replicate fully assembled working models as long as they fit in the replicator bed, but where's the fun in that? But she's still only got so much time in an off-shift, and doing it 'properly,' scratch-built using machine tools like 'real' modellers on Mellanus, or manually defining all of the geometry in a CAD program like modellers on Earth, would take too much time.
see also: alt versions of the locomotive.

Creator of the flat "Earth" and the Apostle of the Cat God: the most interesting facts from the life of Terry Pratchett
Tumblr media
Dreamed of becoming an astronomer
As a child, the boy was very interested in astronomy and stars in general. In adulthood, he not only did not lose interest in this topic, but also built an observatory in his garden.
The first story and a typewriter for earned money
Terry's first work was written when he was 13 years old, and a year later it was published in a school magazine called The Hades Business. On this story, the future writer earned £14 and used them to buy his first typewriter.
The first published novel
In 1971, when Terry was only 23 years old, the world saw his first novel The Carpet People. It is a comic fantasy novel about a tribe of tiny people living on the carpet. When the writer became more famous, he decided to rewrite it by adding an updated text, original black and white illustrations and an exclusive story written when he was 17 years old
From journalism to electricity production
After the Three Mile Island nuclear disaster in March 1979, Pratchett left journalism to become a press officer for four nuclear power plants at the Central Electricity Production Council.
He lost in popularity only J.K. Rowling
In 1996, the Times declared Pratchett a best-selling author in the UK. He sold 70 million books worldwide and was the second most read author in Britain, second only to the J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter series.
The award he was most proud of
It may surprise you, but most of all Pratchett was proud of the Carnegie Medal, which was awarded to his children's book The Amazing Maurice and His Raised Rodents. He got it in 2002.
Illness
At the peak of popularity, Pratchett was diagnosed with a severe form of Alzheimer's disease, posterior cortical atrophy. He had gradual degeneration of the cortex, the outer layer of the brain, on the back of the head. The disease leads to difficulties in reading, estimating distance, using tools and spelling. However, the disease did not stop Pratchett's success: in addition to continuing to write, he also became a patron of Alzheimer's Research UK and actively supported fundraising efforts and advocated raising awareness of the disease.
Own sword
The writer has always had an eccentric personality and imagination. Now that he became a knight, Terry needed the right sword he made himself from meteoric iron. The writer found a field with iron deposits near his home in Wiltshire, he himself dug up ore – 81 kilograms. Then he smelted iron ore using a homemade clay and hay furnace. A local blacksmith killed Pratchett's handmade iron rods into a silver-trimmed sword.
The last book
Pratchett's Alzheimer's disease has progressed. However, despite brain atrophy, he still continued to produce books. A few months before his death in March 2015, he finished his last novel about Discworld. Many Pratchett fans keep the book unread on their shelves in his honour.
There were 10 unfinished novels on the hard drive of his computer at the time of his death, but we will never know what they are about. According to the writer's last desire, Pratchett's unfinished works were destroyed. The hard drive was not only broken with a steam roller, but also passed through the stone crusher.

Danny writes a book to cope with his trauma. He makes the main character a boy named Neil and rewrites his ghost fights as fights against others with mutant traits and his portal accident as a general lab accident and makes his powers into different elemental powers. Fire, water, steam, electricity, and air
Fire breath acts as his wail
Water manipulation acts as his ghost ice
Steam acts as his ghost sense and intangiblity/invisibility
Electricity acts as ectoblasts
Can float a few feet off the ground with his only air power
The first book ends with him being captured by the Anti Mutant Front (stand in for G.I.W)
The book becomes a best seller in Gotham. The batfam recognize it as a trauma vent and are very concerned about the author Dan Nightingale (Danny's pen name)
I am going to let you know that when you said “Neil” I blacked out and could only think of my fantasy/isekai AU. I’m back now and I don’t think Danny would be captured because of writing the book, but it’s not too far fetched I guess. I actually think it would be a best seller in several cities, including Metropolis, Fawcett City, and a bunch of other cities that I don’t remember the names of.
The Justice League noticing how the book is very much a vent piece, successfully get Danny out of being captured because one, Batman is able to figure out that this Danny Fenton guy was captured by the Anti Mutant Front not to long after the book was published, and two, the last name Fenton was originally Fentonnightingale way back during the witch hunts.
Danny gets recruited by the Justice League, but he doesn’t have to do anything, he mostly just under the protection of the JL now. Danny’s first request from them is to go to space and he lives in the Watchtower from then on. The JL also figures out that his powers weren’t one to one with the book, which they already guessed was the case.

Spiders are scary creatures. Multiple legs and multiple eyes. Small yet strong. Never underestimate their size. Many carry venom and that is enough to take down anything. Their webs to lure in prey, create a home for themselves. Their eyes to see in many directions and legs to crawl faster.
Many underestimate what they can do. What they're capable of. When push comes to shove, spiders will attack. And when they attack, you better hope that you make it out alive. They may be small, harmless, but a spider does what it does best. Lure you into their web and trap you to meet your demise.

Your pov
“HEY! GET UP BUG!”
Damn it. Damn it all. I just want at least 1 hour of sleep. Is that too much to ask? Apparently not for these people.
I don't really have a choice. I should be grateful that they didn't pour cold water to wake me up. So that is something.
Putting on that skin tight suit I wear, I get ready for another mission.
The suit, while tight in every way, was one the few comforts I have. Personally designed it to my liking. I'm just glad they did not force me to wear what they wanted me to wear.
Wearing all my favorite colors, and a hoodie as a plus.
I make my way to general Ardmore. That old cranky woman. How is she not retired is beyond me.
“Rise and shine bug, got a new mission for you” she tells me. There is always a new mission. Once I'm done with one, she quickly gives me another, leaving very little to no room for rest. Even my advanced stamina needs to recharge!
“What is it this time?” I ask, as patient as I can.
“An import train will be passing the valley in the south in 15 hours. If you don't know already, there is a cave the train has to pass through. Clever blues hide in the dark to amish. Your job is to cover any holes, edges, corners, and nooks with your webs. You have 10 hours to get it done. We don't want any surprises”
Is she serious?
“10 hours? Do you have any idea how large that cave is? I will be dry within 5!” I argue.
Ardmore just rolls her eyes, that bitch.
“Not my problem. Get to it, now”
“Now hold on there-AAARRGGHH!!” I felt that familiar electrical hit on my back. Falling on my side, I see her goons got that shock stick. They continue to shock me, my sides, neck, hip. They love to torment me.
“Get up bug, I don't want you wasting time”
“Y-yes ma’am” I said weakly.
I hate sounding weak. It only enforces their view on me. A bug, a mere insect they can step on.

Third pov
There was a tip given from the science guys that a train would pass through the starlight cave. Within a few hours it would pass but the steam the train releases would damage the nocturne creatures living in that cave. They were rare creatures as their way of life is rather fragile. Anything can easily ruin their environment and their lives.
Neytiri took the stand to lead a group of warriors to protect the cave and set up traps before the train would even make an appearance. Neytiri was not afraid, she would trample down any machine or demon that dares to hurt her planet.
This mission would be no different.
Norm said they had only a limited time to set up defense areas and traps. So no time is to be wasted.
So neytiri goes with some trusted warriors.
Upon arriving at the cave, there was already the sight of sky demons. Lying low, neytiri and the other na’vi would silently scatter as they took aim at the entrance of the cave.
From what they can see, 6 humans were guarding the entrance, from time to time turning around to talk to someone that was inside. So there were more. Its fine.
Neytiri has taken down hundreds within minutes. This would be nothing.
“HEY BUG! GO FASTER ON THOSE WEBS!” one of the humans shouted.
Two of them muttered to each other, grinning in a sickening way. Then two of the 6 guards went inside the cave while pulling out two electrical rods.
Neytiri hates those rods. She has been hit with those once, never again does she want to feel that painful experience. Seeing them again, she wonders who will be receiving the end of those shocks.
Shaking her head, she signals the other na’vi to strike.
Pulling back her bow, neytiri takes aim, and like a silent rain, all arrows landed perfectly onto their targets. Good, 4 down, few more to go.
Signaling the other warriors to go inside the cave, Neytiri runs towards the entrance. She notices there is a small light blue flickering light deep in the cave. Along with evil laughter and someone screaming. They sounded to be in so much pain. Not wasting another second neytiri and the other na’vi ran further into the cave and saw a horrific sight.
The two humans use their electrical rods to shock and torture a young person. They laugh as they poke the person around. Clearlying enjoying the person's suffering.
“STOP IT!! STOP IT!!!” It sounded like a young girl. Her voice cracking, trying to get away from the two humans but they only get closer.
“COME ON BUG! GET BACK TO WORK!” one of them shouts, aiming for her wrists.
Her whole body shakes, unable to say any words of protest.
Neytiri couldn't handle to hear the painful screams anymore, letting out a war cry she aimed right at the heart of the human who brings pain to the young girl. With one swift move, the arrow went right through, making the first human fall to the side, bleeding out.
The second human didnt react in time as one of the other na’vi shot their arrow through the human’s head, an instant kill.
The rods fell from their grips, neytiri kicks them away.
“See if there are anymore” she says, the other na’vi comply and scatter for any more humans.
Looking down at poor girl, neytiri oddly couldn't help but feel terrible for her. Looking at her body frame, she looks to be very young.
The girl was in a fetal position, her arms sprawled out, her wrists having terrible bruises. And not just the wrist, her face filled with scars and more bruises. Neytiri can tell she went through some terrible things.
“Mawey…” she whispers, reaching down to touch the girl but hears a whisper.
“Please….no more….I cant…” was all the girl said before she passed out.
Neytiri looks at her, after witnessing what the other humans have done, she cant let the girl be alone. Who knows what she has been through, and what more she could go through if more humans come soon. So making a quick decision, neytiri gently picks up the girl, cradling her like she would with her other children.
“Neytiri, there are no more but we noticed something” one of the na’vi returns to report to neytiri.
“What is it?” she asks.
“There are white strands on the other end of the cave. They feel a bit sticky, and light. Almost like the kinglor silk, but different. We don't know what it is or what animal could cause it”.
Neytiri wants to take the girl back to the village, but there is a goal to meet.
“Come, we will return to the village for more help” she says

Your pov
I woke up strangely on something soft. Like cotton. No one screamed to wake me up. I felt well rested. Scanning my area, it looks like Im in a tent. I can see the sunlight peaking in, unfamiliar smells I never smelled before. Most of all, its noisy, but not a bad noisy. I can hear distant animals, vague chatter, leaves brushing against each other.
Clearly, I'm not at the RDA base.
I dont remember what happened, just that I was webbing one side of the cave and then-
Oh.
Thats right.
Steve and Greg were torturing me again. Using the rods to poke at me. They must have been that bored if guarding the entrance to the cave was easy.
That still doesnt explain how I am here.
“Oh good, you are awake, I was worried”
A female voice spoke, slow english words but with a heavy accent.
I turned to see a na’vi. Oh my god.
She was so tall! Like really, really tall!
“Its alright, I am not going to hurt you. My name is neytiri” the na’vi tells me. Keeping a distance between us.
Is this really happening right now?

Neytiri really didn't understand why she brought the young human into her village. After explaining to her mother what she witnessed, mo’at believed it was good that neytiri saved the young girl. They know humans don't treat their own kind well.
Yet neytiri can't help but feel slightly skeptical about the girl. When the girl was passed out, she observed the girl in great detail. From the odd clothing she was wearing which almost looked like a second skin, to her mask, her stature, everything.
Using herbal medicines, thankfully the nasty bruises were fading but her complexion seemed pale, not a healthy pale. As if she hasn't been exposed to the outside world that much.
So many questions neytiri wants to ask, some no doubt would be sensitive to ask the young girl. She can wait, for now she just wants to treat the girl, no mattering why the need to do it.
Is it her motherly instincts perhaps?
Neytiri worries for her children a lot, especially her youngest. Maybe it is projection as her husband would say. Who knows, what she does know is that the girl is safe from those who harmed her.

“Are you feeling alright?” the na’vi asks me.
I guess I didnt respond fast enough, still trying to process what I am looking at.
“I…um…wait, you speak english?” I ask.
The na’vi nods, smiling a bit.
“Yes, I know how to speak it. I was taught very young”
I honestly don't know much about na'vi. I have only seen a handful and most exposure I get is from the newly awakened recom avatars.
“W-why am I here?” I hesitantly ask. Hoping she doesn't end me or hurt me any further.
“I saw you getting hurt, they laughed at your pain. I had to stop it” she tells me.
Looking down at my hands, remembering the cave.
Wait, the cave!
Quickly I got up, walking a bit wobbly towards her. She has to know!
“A train! There will be a large train machine going through the cave! Its going to carry a lot of weapons and other things!!” I said rather a bit fast.
She holds me tightly so that I dont fall, seeing the comparison of my arm to her hand, she can easily pick me up like a doll if she wanted to.
“Yes, we know. Thank you for telling me. We will put traps to stop it from going”
I shake my head, “no no, they will surround the train with shooters! They wanted me to also set traps and cover the cave! They don't want anything to interrupt it! Please! I don't know how much time has passed but its going to arrive soon!” I plead.
Urgency was all I felt and thought of. Ardmor would kill me if she knew I was spilling their plans to the na’vi. At this point, I dont care, if the na’vi can stop the train, it would piss off ardmore, something I would love to see.
“Cover? What do you mean cover?” the na’vi asks.
Oh god, do I tell her? I already confessed a big chunk.
“D-dont…dont freak out ok? I can do this….I raise my wrist, aiming at the tent pole and shot out a web string.

Neytiri has never seen any human do that. Ever.
It was the same thing the warriors found in the cave. And it comes out of her arms??
“I have…powers. I can shoot these things called webs. They are strong, sticky, and durable. I can do things no human can. At the cave, the RDA wanted me to use my webs to make traps and clear the way for the train” the girl explains.
Neytiri slowly nods, taking in this newfound information.
In her conclusion, the humans were using her like a tool. What happened at the cave, clearly the girl isnt saying a whole lot more. They probably dont see her as an equal in their species.
“I hated doing it….please dont take me back! Please, I can help! I can show you what more I can do but please dont send me to the others!” the girl begs. Tears ready to fall from her eyes.
“Sshhh….its alright, I won't sent you anywhere you dont like” neytiri comforts the girl. Bringing her in for a tight embrace. She is so small, so thin. Do they starve her? Restrict her food access?
“You are safe here. I won't make you do things you dont like. My home can be your new home if you like” neytiri offers.
The girl looks up at her, hope twinkling in her eyes.
“R-really?”

Third pov
“This is ghost. I have my eyes on the target, they are closing in” the young girl whispers into her mic. Observing RDA soldiers walking through the forest.
She stands upside down from a tall tree branch, a web sling already out stretched to move to the next tree.
“They are making their way to the spot” she reports. She swings to the other tree, landing with no sound. Eagerly she sees the soldiers walking right into her trap.
6 soldiers walking on foot, 10 in their new AMP suits.
Easy.
One of the soldiers stepped on the trigger, the ground they stood on was false as a camouflage cover moved to reveal spikes at the bottom. The soldiers fell into their deaths. Arrows began to fly towards the amp suits just as they were shooting at random.
She can see her fellow na’vi moving around in the foliage to avoid the bullets. That is her cue.
Swinging around in circles, the girl shoots at the glass windows and the guns. Covering their vision and aim. But she does more, carefully she aims her webs at the foot of the amp suits so that they dont move, some tripping themselves.
“GO GO GO!” she shouts, the na’vi aims their arrows at the windows of the suits, going straight through the humans that were inside. While a lot, the fight lasted a few minutes with her and the na’vi winning this fight.
Landing down, the girl looks for anything salvageable to bring back home.
“Well done my daughter”
Smiling, the girl turns to her mother, neytiri.
“Thank you my child, however I would prefer if you just stayed home,” neytiri says as she places a kiss on the girls head.
“Im fine mom, besides, with my webs, we took them down way faster. Plus, no one got shot. Less injures and more success”
While that was true, neytiri knows some raids or fights remind her daughter of her past.
“I understand, but I cannot help but worry for you. Those machines almost got you” she tells.
“Almost, but I am fast”
Chuckling, neytiri holds her daughter close, “yes, you are very fast my love”
The girl happily basks in her mothers embrace. She likes this, being held, it never gets old. Since that day, the girl loves physical affection, her new mother proves abundance and never rejects her.
Life has been easy for her, enjoyable and makes her look forward to tomorrow. Yes, the girl would sometimes think back on her past. The things she went through, at times she can feel the phantom pains from her tortures. Would rub her arms or face where the bruises used to be. But its less now.
The girl loves her new life and is forever thankful of her mother saving her. Having a new family, love, a home, it is all she ever wanted. To hell with Ardmore and her plans with the RDA. The girl for sure cant wait to see that old hag and rub it on her face. That she is more than a tool, than a bug. Ghost is more than Ardmore can ever know.
