HIMYM S4E6  - 09*19*19

I’ve been watching How I Met Your Mother for days now, rewatching at this point. This series have helped me through tough times, it became one of my go-to shows whenever I feel hopeless or lost because, as Barney would say, it teaches you how to live. It gives you these anecdotes that you can learn from, it shows you these situations that can happen or is happening to you in real life. I’ve been angry a lot at people who aren’t really relevant to my life anymore, I’ve been keeping that anger within me because it’s the last memory I had before everything has went to shit but this scene has helped me overcome that anger, to throw it away and just let it go.

Also, this episode has taught me how to accept that some things aren’t really just meant to be. Like how Stella wasn’t meant to be with Ted, maybe I’m not meant to be with my ex (let’s just call him C). Yeah, maybe C wasn’t meant for me, maybe there’s something better, maybe I can find my guy with the yellow umbrella someday, maybe not now. Maybe I should learn from Robin and put myself first before anything else because if I do that, other things come easy, a Ted will come persistent enough to wait for me. Maybe.

So yeah, this is what I re-learned today.

Why was everyone so weird about Robin going to Ted+Stella’s wedding?

They were like really close friends. They hung out literally everyday but all of a sudden it’s a problem? If they found it so weird they should have just stopped hanging out altogether. I bloody hate this show.

Also, she left him at the wedding. It would never have worked. She did him a favour. How about invite all your ex’s to the wedding and if one of you doesn’t run off with one of them, maybe you’ll be ok.

And Ted looking into the future and having blond kids with Stella. No fucking way that marriage would have lasted anywhere near that long.

i don’t think there was enough said about lucy zinman in the ted/stella break up. she called him “big guy” and wanted him to read her bed time stories. she felt safe with ted and liked him. ted is pretty much always good with kids. sure, tony is her father and it seems he and stella made it work but but i imagine there was a lot of confusion and heartbreak for that little girl in the wake of stella leaving ted for tony.

So let’s see our top three first shall we? 

3. Tracy McConnel / Ted Mosby with 99 fics

Not terribly surprising given the premise of the show and how awesome Tracy turned out to be (I still can’t believe she was just killed off)

2. Lily Aldrin / Marshall Eriksen with 120 fics

Given their status as the couple of the group, not surprising

1. Robin Scherbatsky / Barney Stinson with 370 fics

While no one is surprised that Robin and Barney’s relationship is popular the margin between the amount of fics between them and Marshmallow and Lily pad is, shocking. Over three times as many? Damn.

Notably all our top three relationships are all canon so let’s see how other canon relationships (important ones that is) fared shall we?

Let’s start with Ted. First we have Karen with 1 fic (Karen Filippeli / Ted Mosby) which is not shocking in the least, she was a bitch. Then we have Victoria (Ted Mosby / Victoria) with 7 fics. Sad given how nice Victoria was all in all yet not surprising. Stella (Ted Mosby / Stella Zinman) with 5 fics which again, not surprising, and Zoey (Ted Mosby / Zoey Pierson) with 2 fics. Lastly we have Robin (Ted Mosby / Robin Scherbatsky) with 40 fics which is relatively low amount when compared to Robin/Barney fics but then again Barney and Robin did have better chemistry on screen (sitcom standards of course) and between Ted and Robin it was kind of on-off drama through the whole show so.

Next Barney. We have 3 fics in Quinn Garvey / Barney Stinson and 3 in Shannon / Barney Stinson.

Third, Robin. Altogether 3 fics between Kevin and Robin under the tags Kevin / Robin Scherbatsky and Robin Scherbatsky / Kevin Venkataraghavan.

You may notice some major relationships are missing their own tag, for example Nora/Barney and Don/Robin. Moment of silence for all those ships.

Now then the non-canon pairings! 

First we have polymerous, why-choose-when-you-can-have-it-all, Lily Aldrin / Marshall Eriksen / Ted Mosby / Robin Scherbatsky / Barney Stinson with 2 fics.

The only other 3+ person tag I wish to bring up is Lily Aldrin / Marshall Eriksen / Barney Stinson with 20 fics. Now 20 fics is not usually considered much but Marshall and Lily have only 120 fics which is only six times as many. And more importantly tags Lily Aldrin / Barney Stinson (22 fics) and Marshall Eriksen / Barney Stinson (7 fics) don’t actually overlap with the three person tag.

It is... Ted Mosby / Barney Stinson with whooping 87 fics! 87 is pretty much compared to other non-canon ships which is not really surprising (if one non-canon ship within our main five (+ mother I guess) was to be made real this would be it). It is still only one fourth of the amount of Barney/Robin fics yet near three fourths of Lily/Marshall fics and near 9/10 the amount of Tracy/Ted fics. All in all it is really something.

Also there was one Barney Stinson / Barney Stinson fic so do with that what you will.
