Nature's Battle Plan: Conquering Lyme Disease with Naturopathic Wisdom
Tumblr media
Hello there, health warriors and Lyme disease troopers! Today, let's embark on a journey into the realm of naturopathic medicine and explore how the Stephen Buhner protocols are arming us with a holistic arsenal against the formidable foe that is Lyme disease. It's time to trade in the metaphorical swords for herbal remedies and embark on a natural quest for healing.
Understanding Lyme Disease: Before we delve into the naturopathic approach, let's unravel the mystery of Lyme disease. This tick-borne villain, often underestimated, can wreak havoc on the body, causing a myriad of symptoms from fatigue to joint pain. Traditional medicine may treat the symptoms, but naturopathy seeks to address the root cause and strengthen the body's innate ability to heal.
The Stephen Buhner Protocols: Enter Stephen Buhner, a pioneer in herbal medicine with a specific focus on Lyme disease. His protocols blend traditional herbal wisdom with modern research to create a comprehensive approach to tackling this stealthy adversary. Picture it as a carefully crafted battle plan, with each herb playing a strategic role in supporting the body's immune system and targeting the Lyme bacteria.
Cat's Claw and Japanese Knotweed: The Dynamic Duo In the naturopathic arsenal against Lyme, Cat's Claw and Japanese Knotweed take center stage. These powerhouse herbs are like the Batman and Robin of the natural medicine world, working synergistically to combat inflammation and target the spirochetes responsible for Lyme disease. It's not just about symptom relief; it's about dismantling the enemy's stronghold.
Eleuthero and Andrographis: The Reinforcements Just as any army needs reinforcements, the body needs additional support to combat the complexities of Lyme disease. Eleuthero, known for its adaptogenic properties, helps the body adapt to stress and boosts overall resilience. Meanwhile, Andrographis steps in as the immune system's loyal ally, enhancing the body's ability to fend off infections. It's like giving the immune system a superhero upgrade.
Holistic Healing: Mind, Body, and Spirit Naturopathy goes beyond herbs—it embraces a holistic approach to healing. Incorporating stress reduction techniques, dietary changes, and lifestyle modifications are crucial components of the naturopathic battle plan against Lyme. Imagine it as fortifying the castle walls to prevent future invasions and creating an environment where the body can thrive.
In the face of Lyme disease, naturopathy offers a beacon of hope and a comprehensive strategy for healing. The Stephen Buhner protocols, with their herbal allies and holistic principles, provide a roadmap for reclaiming wellness and restoring balance. It's not just a treatment plan; it's a declaration of war against Lyme disease, fought on the battlefield of natural medicine. So, fellow health warriors, let's rally our herbal troops and march forward on this journey to conquer Lyme disease with the wisdom of nature. Victory awaits!

The Subways' eponymous album reminded me of many musicians who haven't released their albums in a while. No, they didn't retire, most of them still tour, yet they haven't gone to their studios. For instance, Erykah Badu didn't do an LP since New Amerykah Part Two (Return of the Ankh). I know, she did a mixtape afterwards, yet even that one happened a long time ago. I ask myself why, because the LP showed us Mrs. Badu at another height of her powers. Yes, she remains one of the most intriguing forces in the modern R&B, but I fear the pressure may have gotten to her. Her discography remains an odyssey throughout the soundscape only the genre she works on is capable of. However, many in the idiom incorporated her innovations, so she would have to go beyond what she did before.

Uncovered: The Ninja Tales
1. Thundercat - Apocalypse Anniversary Edition
Art Vinyl's quest to ‘Uncover’ the stories behind some of the best vinyl record artwork each year never ceases, and so we turn to take a look at a selection of upcoming releases for 2024 from the consistently excellent independent record label Ninja Tune in our new sub-series ‘Uncovered: The Ninja Tales’.
First one off the press is American bassist, singer-songwriter, Stephen 'Thundercat' Bruner and the Apocalypse Anniversary Edition. This 10th Anniversary reissue of Apocalypse arrives on 15th March 2024 on Brainfeeder and Ninja Tune and features two previously unreleased songs. The original sleeve design is taken to the next level for this release, and we caught up with Ninja’s Head of Production and Design, Sean Preston to give us the exclusive creative process low-down.
Tumblr media
Thundercat - Apocalypse 10 Year Anniversary Edition (2024)
Sean says, “This one took the remaining few hairs left on my scalp. Six months of getting it to where it is now, but I’m really happy with how it’s turned out. The brief was to create a sleeve of the existing portrait front cover, that somehow showed Thundercat's portrait skull with holography."
The mark of 90s print processes associated with comic book and cartoon collectables has run through the artworks of Thundercat’s back catalogue of releases, married with striking portrait photography that is often dark or dark-humoured.
Sean told us, "Thundercat is really into holography, constantly pushing the boundaries of what is realistically achieved. With the previous Golden Age of Apocalypse reissue we even had to work with the company that makes tiny holograms for VISA’s credit cards!”
He continues, "The issue we have today is that a lot of the old techniques are no longer workable. Print has streamlined and that often means "holographic print” is actually just standard litho printing on top of reflective cards and that wasn’t enough for us here. Brainfeeder’s Adam Stover came up with the idea of working with implementing a holographic aspect to the original front cover portrait that would present a sort of x-ray of Thundercat, in which a skull would be visible in certain lights. The challenge was to print both the standard colour portrait as per the original, and the holographic skull, which should only be visible in certain lights."
Our conversation with Sean reveals that what at first brief appeared to be an unattainable outcome for this Anniversary edition, in fact culminated in a blend of two quite ordinary techniques to get to an extraordinary finish - a deluxe rainbow holographic sleeve with gold foil detail, housed in transparent PVC outer slipcase with “x-ray” holographic skull print.
Tumblr media
Thundercat - Apocalypse (2013) and Apocalypse 10 Year Anniversary Edition (2024)
Sean explains, “We needed to create something new, which is so hard to achieve these days. Holographic techniques don’t really provide the ideal for what we wanted to achieve. Light exposure ink isn’t really at the point where it would create something with the effect of depth and transition we were looking for. I find sometimes the desired effect needs to be unpacked and rebuilt, so when the initial tests didn’t get us to where we wanted to be, we married two fairly traditional print methods in a way that I don’t think has been done before.”
Sean elaborates, “Though we wanted the skull to appear beneath the portrait initially, I found a way to achieve the desired overall consequence of a skull appearing from a portrait, was to have two separate sleeves engage with each other, and in a way that created something we could consider be a new, or at least unique to this release.”
Tumblr media
We asked Sean about the techniques used on each sleeve to create this final synergy between them.
He told us, “The first sleeve is a standard print onto a rainbow mirriboard (like silver wrapping paper that presents a rainbow effect under light). By printing the first card sleeve with the original front cover portrait of Thundercat on the iridescent mirriboard, we could get much closer to our ideal by printing a second outer sleeve to cover the first, on a clear APET (a more environmentally friendly plastic) sheet with a process called Cast & Cure. This process is nothing new, but is usually employed on its own, or as an alternative to varnish, but usually as the primary feature of the packaging. It leaves a holographic impression on the clear material which isn’t immediately obvious on its own, but it does react well to light.”
Tumblr media
The process didn’t stop there however, as Sean tells us, “Of course, in attempting to create something unique, where the two components will actually land in print, takes us to the unknown, and as such requires a fair amount of testing and development. We wanted something that had more depth in certain areas - aiming for that x-ray aesthetic. We eventually applied a small partial white base in areas and took further measures with the portrait printed mirrirboard cover to increase its vibrancy. Something that really ties the room together from my perspective is the fine gold lacquer (like a gold foil) that we applied for Thundercat’s crown. So regal!”
Sean Preston is an award winning product designer and artist from London. He is Head of Production at independent record label Ninja Tune, a bastion of ground-breaking music since 1990, working with artists such as Black Country, New Road, Bonobo, Thundercat and more. Sean founded Fiction magazine and publisher Open Pen.

With creatives like Sean pushing boundaries and reimagining tried and tested processes to achieve the music artists' end vision, we the humble vinyl collectors, are rewarded with a unique album artwork to cherish. He says, "What I love about this is that in a record shop, you’d approach the record sleeve and it would just look like a slightly iridescent version of the original cover - but on closer inspect and interaction, the skull effect comes to life and reveals the x-ray effect."

GETTING TO THE ABSTRACT
To this point, this blog, through a series of postings,[1] has developed an argument that promotes a basic change to social studies, particularly civics.  That is, that that portion of a school curriculum should focus its efforts on the social realities of students’ local communities.  This would counter the ever-increasing levels of individualism and self-centeredness that have affected the nation and led to a good deal of dysfunctional elements within the American society such as polarized politics.
The last posting, “Localize It,”[2] indicated that this posting would, as an example, describe a construct, nativist theories, offered by Jerome Bruner.  Those theories state that the mind “is inherently or innately shaped by a set of underlying categories, hypotheses, forms of organizing experiences.”[3]
In other words, instruction should not be so concerned, as pedagogues have encouraged classroom teachers to be, with teaching inductive skills, such as with inquiry models of instruction based on the scientific method.  One should recognize that the mind already operates in such a fashion as to approximate that process.  What is needed are experiences that further the student to feel and appreciate the function of disciplinary knowledge.  This idea is original with John Dewey in his promotion of “occupations” for elementary students.[4]
More specifically, community-based activities and skills at the secondary level can act as a continuance of Dewey’s aim and as a bridge from the elementary school efforts to the goals of higher education and adult communal life.  The ultimate aim is for students to more centrally view their local environs as the natural setting where political realities come to bear on their welfare and that of their neighbors.
Cognitive processes used for pedagogical purposes should not be limited by scientific logic and concern.  To advance the social action skills (introduced in the last posting) and the communal agenda described above, relevant cognitive skills should be based on a continuum because different students act on different levels of abstraction when it comes to schoolwork or life in general.
It is believed by this blogger, based on his years of teaching and as a parent, that children operate at all levels of abstraction even at the earliest grades.[5]  The problem lies in applying abstract thinking to sophisticated and to some degree foreign cognitive substance or content.  A continuum is needed by teachers to devise activities that are both suitable for their students and functional for handling the issues, problems, or other situations a teacher chooses to study.
One such continuum is suggested by an argumentation model, offered by Stephen Toulmin.[6]  To see a summary account of Toulmin’s model, see this blogger book, Toward a Federated Nation, in its subsection, “Toulmin’s Elements of a Logical Argument.”[7]  But for those not so disposed, here is a thumbnail summary.  A logical argument contains:
a datum statement (e.g., since Daniel is a union laborer),
a claim (e.g., therefore, Daniel is a registered Democratic voter),
a warrant statement (e.g., because organized labor has a strong partisan allegiance for the Democratic Party),
a backing or data statement (e.g., union workers vote Democratic at a 51% rate as voter choices are documented by studies such as that offered by research outfits such as PRO Morning Consult),
a qualifier (e.g., unless Daniel is among 23% who vote Republican or otherwise), and
a rebuttal, (e.g., Daniel is not a union laborer or even human – perhaps a dog)
The distinction here, simplistic but illustrative, between these elements and the inductive, scientific processes that were prominent among progressive educators, is that generalization formation – such as a scientific finding – is not the end or goal.  The end is to have students generate knowledge useful in solving issues or problems and dealing with community sources.
If devised and used correctly, such a continuum or taxonomy can assist students in overcoming their apparent inability or reluctance to think abstractly.  The purpose is to have students deal with it at an appropriate level.  Then the lesson allows the students to work toward resolution in their natural fashion of problem-solving.  The next posting will review a taxonomy this blogger has devised using Toulmin’s model to further illustrate what this blog is promoting.

The Last Chapter of the Metalocalypse: Army of the Doomstar (Or How the Great Reuniting Matters to Dethklok)
Over the years, [adult swim] has given us so many incredible characters like Aqua Teen Hunger Force, Primal, Rick & Morty, The Boondocks, and The Venture Brothers. But one show from [adult swim] has always been my go-to, and that show is none other than Brendon Small and Tommy Blacha’s Metalocalypse (2006-2016 / 2019- present). The band featured in Metalocalypse includes fictional members: Nathaniel Explosion – voiced by Brendon Small (vocals), Skwisgaar Skwigelf – voiced by Brendon Small (guitars), Toki Wartooth – voiced by Tommy Blacha and Mike Keneally (guitars), Pickles – voiced by Brendon Small (drums), and William Murderface voiced by Tommy Blacha (bass).
In 2013, Brendon Small and Tommy Blacha gave us the rock opera smash hit, Metalocalypse: The Doomstar Requiem – A Klok Opera as the story picks up after the end of Metalocalypse season 4. For ten years, Dethklok had been relatively quiet with some live shows scattered around featuring creator Brendon Small (guitars/lead vocals), Gene Hoglan (drums), Pete Griffin (bass/backing vocals), and most recently Nili Brosh (guitars). Now in 2023, Dethklok has announced not only a new album (Dethalbum IV) plus a new movie closing out this epic adventure that features a companion soundtrack, Metalocalypse: Army of the Doomstar (released theatrically on July 21, 2023/Digital and Blu-ray on August 22, 2023).
Metalocalypse: Army of the Doomstar was written and directed by Brendon Small. The film stars Small, Blancha, Victor Brandt (Metalocalypse), Stephen “Thundercat” Bruner (Grammy® Award-winning musician), King Diamond (King Diamond; Mercyful Fate), Mark Hamill (Batman: The Animated Series; The Machine), Kirk Hammett (Metallica), Jon Hamm (Confess, Fletch; Top Gun: Maverick), Scott Ian (Anthrax), Amy Lee (Evanescence), Malcolm McDowell (A Clockwork Orange), Juliet Mills (Passions), Laraine Newman (Saturday Night Live), Raya Yarbrough (Metalocalypse: The Doomstar Requiem - a Klok Opera), and Livia Zita (2022 winner - Society of Voice Arts and Sciences Award).
Metalocalypse: Army of the Doomstar follows the gallant rescue of Toki Wartooth from Metalocalypse: The Doomstar Requiem – A Klok Opera where brutal frontman Nathan Explosion is dealing with some extreme trauma after the band battles their former bandmate, Magnus Hammersmith to the death. To make matters worse, the fate of the world now lies in Nathan’s hands as he has been tasked to write the “Song of Salvation”. As you can guess, this task weighs heavily on humanity’s embattled protector. So much so that Nathan’s character will undertake an arduous path to redemption and rebirth as he guides his bandmates through the ultimate battle of good versus evil. As Nathan would say, it just takes him “…a long time to learn stuff”.
After being anointed the new high priest of the Church of the Black Klok in Metalocalypse: The Doomstar Requiem – A Klok Opera, Charles Offdensen will once again use his powers of persuasion to get the band motivated to write the “Song of Salvation”. Offdensen would tell Pickles, Nathan’s “trials are yet to begin” but he must first face the fear that “engulfs” him. Nathan might be the key to the salvation of humanity, but his bandmates are also vital to the prophecy. As foretold in the ancient prophecy, the Metalocalypse is upon us and all that is good will die. No biggie, right?
Dethklok will once again face off against well-known antagonists, The Tribunal which includes Senator Stampingston, General Crozier, Vater Orlaag, and most importantly, Mr. Salacia. As in previous episodes, Mr. Salacia and The Tribunal will once again make life very hard for Dethklok in their attempt to save humanity from the impending Doomstar. Unbeknownst to the band, the “Song of Salvation” is just a part of the prophecy to save humanity. Dethklok must also find the strength to look within to find the final piece needed to defeat the Doomstar. If Dethklok fails, then they cannot stop the impending doom of the Metalocalypse and the Great Reuniting. Will Dethklok complete the “Song of Salvation” in time to save the world? Well, you will have to watch Metalocalypse: Army of the Doomstar to find out.
Of course, as the saga ends, one would expect to see cameos from previous characters like Dethklok’s chef Jean-Pierre and music producer extraordinaire Dick “Magic Ears” Knubbler. But the most important cameo to grace their presence was none other than the self-proclaimed “rock and roll clown”, Dr. Rockzo. This scene will go down as one of the best Dr. Rockzo montages ever seen on Metalocalypse. Overall, Metalocalypse: Army of the Doomstar is a brilliant conclusion to the epic Metalocalypse saga that any fan of the series will instantly hail as a cult classic. I have already watched it a few times over the last weekend and even after this review is published, I will continue to watch it because it is that good. Some shows when they bring the story to an end, it feels rushed at times or maybe they do not tie up all the necessary storylines. Not Metalocalypse: Army of the Doomstar, this movie will leave the viewer satisfied knowing Brendon Small and Tommy Blacha were able to finish Metalocalypse as intended. Thank you, Brendon, and Tommy. Thank you for wanting to give closure to an idea that amassed dedicated fans across the globe.
On August 22, 2023, Metalocalypse: Army of the Doomstar will be available on Blu-ray and digitally on Amazon Prime Video, Apple TV, Google Play, Vudu, and more. Blu-ray special features will include a featurette entitled Behind the Metal Curtain. This in-depth look at the making of Metalocalypse: Army of the Doomstar will have interviews with show co-creator Brendon Small and his team of writers, animators, and musicians as they share their stories and experiences as they turn this [adult swim] series into its first feature film. Currently, MAX has the entire Metalocalypse series and Metalocalypse: The Doomstar Requiem – A Klok Opera available to stream, so go get a Metalocalypse marathon going in honor of the release of the final chapter in this legendary saga.
