The Rosemary Tree is the first time I've had to put down a book so I could sob over how beautiful it was.

#elizabeth goudge how do you keep doing this?#her books are such a strange thing for me #either they're 'yes it's pretty but could you please get to the point and have something happen?'#or i am slammed with waves and waves of intense overwhelming emotion so i almost can't stand how deeply it affects me #i think it helps to read it at the same time of year the story occurs #the dean's watch during advent was a life-changing experience #and now reading this book in march is having a very similar effect #i actually had to go in a room by myself to properly cry #because someone caught me tearing up #and how could i begin to explain that i'm sobbing my heart out because miss giles is reading the secret garden?#i've cried over sad moments in books but i've never felt anything like this #such intense joy and sorrow all mixed in so you can't tell which emotion is causing the tears #it's been like two hours since that happened and i'm still shook #my world is upended #and i'm being reminded in an entirely new way of what really great literature can do #the rosemary tree #elizabeth goudge

In case there was any interest, I did also post to Ko-fi today! It’s the second part to my previous kofi post + a mini comic related to it! I did also end up making a second page to that mini comic which will also go up eventually.

The mini comic isn’t gonna be the quality that I hope my main one will be, it just helps me visualize and practice drawing the Shinos and how they’ll look in action. Also coz its all I can think about rn :’D

Here’s the post! It’s $1 members and above for now. But once I feel comfortable with where the monsters are I’ll post them here, too!

Part 2 of the minicomic in that post will probably also be posted there since it’s done. Thinking maybe tomorrow or whenever the 3rd part is finished. I won’t be making it long, it’s just an encounter scene I’ve had in my thoughts for a while now.

Imagine the awkwardness if in that Mikoto Prank Show ask however, if no one but Es and Jackalope were in on it… And they somehow got everyone’s crimes perfectly right.

Jackalope and Es are in on it, and they don’t even need to guess them -- the machine can be legit! As any good businessmen, they put this newfound life-changing technology to good use: reality TV. They get a hold of 10 random people, planning on editing and splicing the videos to make up some crazy stories about crime and guilt and see how people react. They chose an range of people that might feel guilt over something -- they assume doctors feel bad for losing patients even though they did their best, or policemen regret the people they can't save, or chronically online people feel responsible for things they're connected to -- but that's all.

They get to Haruka’s interrogation and Es comes back to the team going, “hey, did you guys watch the video? Crazy that this guy killed animals, huh.” Then Yuno’s rolls around and they go “shit I never would have thought she was the type for that, now she’s overthinking her abortion…” Then Fuuta. “What are the chances that so many people feel incredibly guilty over someone else’s death? Does everyone feel a secret responsibility for something that happened indirectly?” Then Muu. “Okay that was pretty direct. How did we find these people? Should we contact anyone about this? No? Okay.” Shidou. “?????” By the time they get to Mahiru’s interrogation and she readily admits to murder they’re like “yeah okay, I had a feeling.”

The funniest part is, Mikoto is the team's only hopeful case! From the very beginning, they hear him talking around the prison and everyone breathes a long sigh of relief. “Finally! A normal, not-murdery guy! Our show is saved! We have someone real to prank!” … And then.

(Slightly off-topic but I’ve always wanted to write a comedy normal au in which Es befriends the cast in different areas of their life; Amane is transferred to their school after her incident, Mahiru works in a nearby store, Shidou works at their local clinic, etc.) One by one they get close enough to Es to really trust them, and each confess to being involved with a death that was either indirect or very well covered up. The first few times it’s a beautiful moment of trust and vulnerability, but after like five confessions Es is sitting there like “seriously?? How does this keep happening????”)

#my pics #dog #dogblr #22 weeks #she’s really such a happy friendly little guy #and in the last couple weeks has just hit that point where dumb puppy brain switches to big kid brain #she still struggles with overstimulation hyperactivity #but she tries very hard to refocus on toys like I’ve been teaching her #she is very mouthy like most acd’s but she has been EXCELLENT at learning ‘gentle’#now that she has at least a bit of an attention span I’m taking her out walking pretty far #both on leash and off #we live on a farm surrounded by other farms so there’s lots of space to roam #next I need to start reinforcing cues by drilling outdoors / in strange locations #need to work on stay #and then I can really get into teaching her how to herd sheep #she LOVES being around them #and honestly there’s nothing that makes me happier than being out grazing the sheep w a dog #really just having so much fun with my little bud

Has time always moved this fast? I'm genuinely asking. In 200 years we went from Bridgerton to AI. The everyday lives of people in each of these eras feel like universes apart. I'm no historian, but it seems like the everyday lives of people between 1500 and 1700 weren't that different.

Have humans throughout time immemorial reflected on life 30 years ago, 100 years ago and commented on how vastly different it was? It feels like we're running at a breakneck pace in the modern era. The It Gets Better project was founded in 2010 because gay people were so universally ostracized that lgbt teen suicide rates were off the charts. And while we're still pretty far from full LGBT equality, openly having a problem with gay people existing is a pretty fringe opinion now that's fairly universally frowned upon, even in the southern US.

I'm pretty sure the first time a woman wore pants in congress was in the 90s.

Culturally, technologically, resource-wise, it feels like every 5 years we leap 5 decades forward. Is it just our own preoccupation with the era we live in that makes this moment feel so significant? Or are we actually moving as quickly as it feels?

I know people have always laughed at the grandpa's who complain "when I was your age...", but has the gap ever been this wide? Or is there truly something special about now.

I'm from the south.#but even southerners know it's no longer something they're allowed to talk openly abt because doing so will make people think they're crazy #they may privately have a problem with gay ppl existing and say so amongst friends family and church #but nowadays it's the kid who's weirdly hung up on jimmy having a boyfriend who's uncool and strange. no one else has a problem with jimmy #even the radical conservatives are aware they ostracise themselves by throwing a fit abt gay people existing #that's why they're so fucking mad. that's why they're fighting so fucking hard. their opinions haven't changed #and 15 years ago they were on the side of the majority and now their opinions make them weirdos #they're evil but i kinda get why they feel like it's everyone else going crazy around them and not their own opinions that are the problem #again. there may yet be some spaces and schools in the US where it's still weird to be gay. but i would say that is the outlier #anyway that's not really my point i just know this site doesn't have reading comprehension #I'm genuinely curious as to whether time always feels like this or if it's us #yes every century has wars and pandemics and dynasty changes that impact history #but it kinda feels like the experience of a pandemic in 2020 with a smartphone and doordash is pretty significantly different than #the experience of a pandemic in 1500. 1300. etc. which maybe felt a lot more similar to each other.#and not to even mention the rapid changes in fashion!!!
