STWG prompt 13/2/24

prompt: accidental confession

pairing/character(s): stonathan

When Steve gets drunk, he gets chatty- like, chatty enough to keep up with Robin for a rambling competition.

Meanwhile Jonathan, as cute as he is, is not great at talking for long periods of time. And when he's a little drunk, he talks even less. His whole body seems to relax in a way it can't when he's sober, and his responses are mostly little 'hm's and 'cool's and head nods and shakes.

They mesh well together.

So, here Steve is, on one of his drunk rambles. He doesn't even know what he'd been talking about originally, he just knows he's sat right next to Jonathan Byers on his couch, knees tucked up to his chest so his head can rest on them with his hands resting on and fidgeting with the soft couch material, and he's talking about something while looking at Jonathan. He knows his words must be slurring a little, because Jonathan lips quirk up slightly every now and then when a word comes out slower than intended, or a little mixed up.

Whatever Steve is supposed to be talking about, though, he gets distracted. Staring directly at Jonathan as he takes little sips of his beer, it's an easy thing to do. The words just slip out, unbidden.

"Y'got pretty lips, Byers."

He doesn't even notice he's said them at first, just continues to stare at Jonathan's face, and fidget with the edge of the couch. It catches up to him when Jonathan freezes, his cheeks go a little pink, and he shuffles a little uncomfortably.

The realisation sobers Steve up, and he tilts his head down to rest his forehead on his knee instead. Fuck. Why did he say that?

He's about five seconds away from getting up and walking out without a word when he hears Jonathan clear his throat.

"You're, uh. Not bad yourself."

What?

Steve goes back to looking at Jonathan, more openly now. Just to check Jonathan's saying that the way Steve needs him to be saying it. And the even pinker cheeks, small smile, and the way Jonathan's leaning a little closer point him towards yes, he means it in the same way. Even if he seems nervous as hell about it.

Steve doesn't really know what to do next. How does one make a move on your ex's ex? Is there etiquette for that?

Luckily, Jonathan decides for him with a nervous handhold.

And, yeah, that'll do for tonight. Maybe when they're sober, and Steve has less words while Jonathan has more, they can talk about it more.

For now, the clammy handhold and drunken compliments will do.

Baby Pumpkin [2/?]

When Steve went to choose a baby bunny, Steve picked not the other bunnies who were all coming up to him, but the little shy one hiding in the corner that reminded him of Jonathan and knew that she and Jonathan would click and thats the one Jonathan would want. That's the one Steve wanted most too: the little shy one that remined him of Jonathan.

Yet another average day in Family Video:

"Hey. Remember when you said that you'd totally fuck Jonathan."

"When...? Oh, yeah. What the fuck that was literally a month ago why are you mentioning that now?"

"Because that was the same conversation we decided to get the matching tramp stamps. And trying to hide those from my parents is a literal pain in the ass. Pun fully intended. I can't even sit straight and-"

"I'd say you can't do anything straight"

"Not like I can do anything str- fuck you"

Steve swaggers to the back and takes out the whiteboard they purchased together - on ROBIN'S SUGGESTION may he add.

"Can't believe you're losing in your own game. About bad jokes. And being gay. Which are basically your two only personality traits."

Robin's side is embarrassingly empty. He sees it as cosmic karma for her you-suck-game during their scoops ahoy era.

"Alright mister little bitch"

"And yet, this little bitch is beating you in your own game"

Robin shows him the finger. Steve bites the finger because he is a little shit and things like boundaries and personal space have already lost all meaning between the two of them.

In this moment the front doors open. The elderly man takes one look at the scene before him and leaves without a word.

"Where did the Jonathan thing come from?"

"Dunno. I was bored. Thought it'd be funny to see you go through a gay crisis."

"Not much of a crisis if I already admitted to it."

"You're no fun."

"Really? That was not what my dad said three months ago. According to him I am a fucking joke."

"Coming from Harrington Senior that's honestly a compliment"

"Please remind me of that the next time I radio you at 3 am. Who is on tape duty?"

"I did it last time."

"Alright" Steve nods towards the small pile of romcoms they have pointedly not been reshelving for the last half an hour. "Enjoy your alone time in the romance section."

"Do you think it would be an invasion of privacy if we checked who returned all that? It was either an epic girls night of an awful breakup." Her voice gets fainter as she moves to the back of the store.

"Nah. We're in the land of the free or whatever. Wait, let me do it"

"You're only saying that so you can procrastinate asshole"

"Does that mean you don't want to know who took them? Because I promise you, you really really do."

"Don't ask if you already know the answer dingus"

"Guess"

"Ummm....power bottom."

"What?"

"Like with Jonathan. Would you rather he call the shots or the other way around?"

She makes a series of incomprehensible movements that are probably supposed to represent intercourse between two men.

"This is the reason god made you a lesbian"

"And thank him for that. Amen."

"Why are you so obsessed with Jonathan anyway."

"You're deflecting"

"Yeah sure, I am deflecting. C'mon, Buckley. Resume or later?"

"Who was the one who took all the romcoms?"

"If I tell you, will you tell me what's really going on?"

"Depends on your answer."

"I thought you weren't interested in my sex life? Every time-"

In this moment the door opens again. Two girls come in, arm in arm. One is wearing a look that can only be described as disgust, the other is clearly trying to hold in laughter with moderate success.

Over the course of many painful months of customer service (plus surviving an interrogation by the actual Russian secret service) Steve and Robin have developed the ability to hold entire conversations without speaking a single word. It is a very neat talent to have when they want to make fun of someone right in front of them. It is less neat when he is the target.

Robin raises her brows. C'mon dingus, tell these random ass girls about your sex life since you're so proud of it.

Steve frowns in response. Yeah, sure Mrs. Never Even Had A First Kiss.

Robin narrows her eyes. I did have a first kiss. Even if it was absolutely horrible.

Steve puts on his most insufferable expression. You yourself said that it doesn't count. No need to be so jealous Buckley.

Robin rolls her eyes. Alright, I want to see you trying to find a-

"Do you have ET?", Robin doesn't say because, oh yeah, they've got actual customers.

Steve solemnly informs them that ET is current out of stock, but that it should be returned in two days. Robin somehow manages to force her last two movies upon them. They leave with a dazed look on their face that Steve can relate to. Sometimes Robin will start talking and the next thing you know you have a tramp stamp.

"Tommy Hagan"

Robin looks absolutely disgusted. "Tommy Hagan?! You would kiss Tommy Hagan? And then you have the audacity to make fun of my taste in women?!"

"First of all: me and Hagan? Been there done that." Robin looks as if her entire worldview was just flipped upside down. "Second: probably not, he uses a bit too much tongue for my liking. I mean that Tommy Hagan was the one who rented all the romcoms"

Robin takes a moment to process this information. Then she dramatically falls to the floor and squirms around in laughter like a bug on its back trying to get up again. Truly a drama kid through and through.

"And thirdly: for your information, I super could make out with Jonathan Byers. Unlike you, I've got game"

"You don't mean gay-me?"

Steve rolls his eyes and takes out the whiteboard again. He is still in the lead.

"And also, excuse you, I totally could make out with Nancy if I wanted to, okay?! I'm just not a homewrecker unlike some other people"

"Excuse me? I was the one who was cheated on?!"

"I'm insulting your taste, dingus"

"Rich coming from you, since we apparently share the same one"

For a moment she looks confused. Then she thinks back to what she said. Steve can pinpoint the exact moment she realizes it.

"Is this the reason you want me to be into Jonathan so bad? Because you're into Nancy?" Steve feels like a smug cat when her entire upper body grows red.

"Shut up she's just pretty okay?!"

"And badass. Don't forget badass."

"Oh my god I know. Ever since I saw her shooting I haven't been able to get her out of my mind."

"Right?! And as if that isn't enough, she has to go and be smart too! Like, c'mon, she has to have some faults. Some downsides. Nobody is that prefect!"

"Oh my god I know! And-"

They continue like that for a while. Time runs away from them and suddenly Hellfire Club is over and Steve's kids (minus Max, he notes with a heavy heart) are barging into the place as if they own it, for no reason other than to be absolute menaces.

"And like. Robin. She was so hot in that moment. I swear to-"

"Who are you talking about?". Steve is used to Dustin being a rude little shit and automatically answers without even thinking about it. "Nancy."

He realizes his mistake too late. He looks up. Mike's eyes are wide in horror. "I hate you so fucking much" he says before turning around and leaving.

Robin sighs. "I guess that is the downside."

Jonathan blinked slowly as he processed the words that he heard come from his husband’s mouth. “Are you… are you serious?”

Steve’s head jerked up and he looked suitably embarrassed. “Um. Baby, I can explain.”

“Are you having an argument with the dog?”

“She chewed up my sneakers. Again! The third time this year! I’ve done everything I can to keep them away from her!” Steve set Noodle down with a pout, pointing to his torn up shoes on the ground.

“She’s a 4 pound chihuahua. Put them somewhere she can’t reach!”

“She’s too smart for her own good. She gets them down every time and I don’t know how.”

Jonathan laughed and sat down next to Steve. “You’ll figure it out.” He patted his lap until Noodle hopped up and scratched behind her ears. “You’ll stop chewing Stevie’s shoes, won’t you?”

“She won’t,” Steve grumbled. “She’s a menace. A hellhound.”

“She fits in one of your hands.”

“A deceitful hellhound.” He was definitely pouting, Jonathan could hear it. “A horrible little creature.”

“You’re the one that found her.”

“…yeah, I am.” Steve reached over and let the pup lick his fingers.

Ficlet under the cut!

"Stevie, sweetheart I'm hooommmeee~" Jonathan calls out to an silent house, suddenly curious but still holding to the standard of that when either of them get home, they make it known.

Jonny has spent so much time slowly easing the oyster that is Steve. Between holding his love as he sobs from the day Steve got the courage to tell Jonathan that "he wasn't a real man" and Jonathan spent the whole week showing Steve the opposite, to the gaggle of children who constantly bombard his boy with questions until they realize a little to take that he can't take it anymore.

Jonathan finally got a little peak into the man he knows and loves when he came to Steve's house, (he has a spare, all the fruity five do) unannounced and Steve had a panic attack because he thought it was his parents.

"Stevie baby," Jon called out, before adding "I was wondering if you wanted to get dinner?"

He walked around the living room, and no Steve. Kitchen? No Steve. He walked up the stairs, before stopping as he heard a door click downstairs. He walked back down before finding Steve in the guest room laying on the floor staring up at the ceiling.

"...baby? What's wrong" Jonathan asked before Steven physically winced in turn. "Oop sorry honey," he whispered "is it a loud day?" He asked, trying to gauge if Steve was non verbal or just a little overwhelmed. Steve opened his mouth before shutting it again and nodding his head. Non verbal it is.

Jonathan sat on the floor next to Steve before taking his had into his own. The gently squeezed each joint, before going to the fingertips and then rubbing circles on his inner palm. He knew that him staying silent and trying to ground Steve was the best course of action, so he took it.

They just sat there, for the gods know how long before Steve moved his head to nuzzle against Jon's knee. Jonathan took his free hand and carded his fingers thru his hair.

Lets just say they didn't eat dinner that night, but they did get up a midnight and raid Steve's fridge. :]

omg id love to hear more abt that recent drabble where stonathan become roommates! if ur up for it :)) it was such a fun idea and it hasnt left my mind!!!

Steve scoffs to himself as Jonathan continues to pace. Stressing about pretending to be a couple for cheap rent is not worth losing their deposit over because he wore a bath in the flooring. Jonathan will never be around, anyway. On top of taking classes at Borough of Manhattan Community College with the goal of eventually transferring to NYU, he recently got a job as an assistant to a wedding photographer. They aren’t lying about their sexuality, either. Commiserating about relationships during a smoke session led to them both unintentionally coming out as bi to one another. It was the start of their plan to move to New York City together to escape the ‘primitive social constructs’ of Hawkins.

“This is not going to work,” Jonathan insists. “We only got this far because everyone thinks I’m uncomfortable with you touching me because we aren't used to being open about our relationship.”

Steve shrugs. “Then get comfortable with me touching you.”

That gets Jonathan to stop. He crosses his arms and hunches his shoulders, doing his best to curl into a defensive ball. The knot of annoyance forming in Steve’s chest unravels.

“Sorry,” he sighs. “I know you can’t just get comfortable.”

Jonathan fidgets. His eyes flick to Steve before sliding away. He swallows.

“I was comfortable with Nancy,” he says.

The words hit Steve harder than they should. He is over Nancy. During spring break of ‘86, he thought he still loved her, but that was a mix of nostalgia and shared trauma and adrenaline. Even before that, he knew who she preferred Jonathan. She only dated him in the first place because Jonathan was preoccupied.

“I can be comfortable with you,” Jonathan continues with new found confidence. “It might just take some adjustment. Maybe we could start by lying in bed and listening to music together?”

“Is this your way of getting me to listen to your weird English bands?” Steve asks with the start of an amused smirk.

“It’s an added bonus.”

currently, only Stranger Things. before, i've written for a bunch of RPF - McFly, The Maine, One Direction. don't think i had ever written for a show/movie before

i do!!! currently i have a lot of comments to answer to, because i've been a little away from fandom and specifically from writing since last year, and haven't found it in myself to answer them. but i will!!!!! someday

6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?

me and you (we can't lose) [eddie X reader] definetely. canon compliant. that's all needed to understand lmao but some of the drabbles for my Forever Halloween Challenge are also very angsty and gory

7. What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?

basically all my other fics have happy endings, so that's a hard thing to answer lol i think it's relative

8. Do you get hate on fics?

never did, thankfully!

9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?

i've only ever wrote one smut scene for going home and nothing else in english. in portuguese, i've had a series of three short smut fics that i never finished lol. it's not my thing and it's hard for me to do it because of the language barrier in english, i feel insecure about it. i just prefer writing pure fluff in general

10. Do you write crossovers?

never did, no, cause it's usually not something i like to read as well

11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?

not that i know of

also not that i know of but that would be so nice if done with permission!

also no. i think i'd have a bit of a hard time, but wouldn't be opposed to it

i'll say that nothing has ever got me as much as Steddie before. i've always been a reader insert girlie, besides the first fics that i've ever read (Jemi - joe jonas X demi lovato) fics, i'm pretty sure Steddie was the only characters ship that i've read and got completely obsessed over

15. What's a WIP you want to finish but doubt you will?

your sweater (up over your head) [stonathan]. this fic is very special to me and a personal challenge in many ways, and i'd love to finish it someday but i'm not sure i'll get back to writing ST, so it's a hard chance

16. What are your writing strengths?

i'd say dialogue! it flows very naturally to me

17. What are your writing weaknesses?

description. haaaate describing things, scenarios, clothes, faces, animals, whatever. i think i'm really mediocre if not entirely bad at it

18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic?

if it's through someone's specific POV, i'm in favor of writing as the character understands it - so if they understand the language, keep it translated and just describe that it was in another language; but if they don't understand, then don't translate either. then you can either put it on a note or make the character who said it translate it. but also, if it's too big of a text, i think it can be annoying. so, mostly short phrases it's good

20. Favourite fic you've written?

ahhh that is such a hard question, i love all my fics so dearly. but i'm gonna go with going home because it's my first and only finished long chaptered fic, and all the research i did for it and everything else involved in writing it that made it a bit more special

Baby Pumpkin [6/?]

Steve will carry her around with her paws resting on his shoulder and he'll kiss the top of her head and pet her while she is trying to climb up him to give him a bunny kiss.

Her best friend is Snuggz, Jonathan's cat who hes had for the last few years. Snuggz and her keep each other company and play while Jonathan and Steve are out somewhere. Theres been more than one occasion where they've come home and find the place trashed as if Snuggz and Baby Pumpkin were having a wild party when 'the parents' weren't home. Steve and Jonathan don't get mad at this, but they do find it highly amusing that they were having a wild house party in their absence.

AITA (M, 20) for not supporting my best friend and roommate's (M, 21) new relationship?

-> Day 3: Fake Dating. I know that robin is a lesbian okay

I and my best friend have known each other since forever. Our relationship had a bit of a rocky start (he used to bully me, then he started dating this girl (20, F), then I punched him in the face, me and his girlfriend started getting closer and we ended up kinda cheating while on a roadtrip together (though their relationship was already falling apart anyway), she broke up with him and we got together, the three of us spent lots of time together because we had no one else, and a whole bunch of more stuff. But we worked through it.)

We both were raised in a small conservative town - which, as two bi people, was not exactly fun. He didn't even know that you could like more than one gender, and I denied this part of myself for the longest time due to being in a m/f relationship.

My (or I guess our?) ex is super smart and got into a great university far away. The plan had been for me to go with her, but I was rejected and also didn't want to live so far away from my siblings (M, 16 & F, 15). So me, my best friend, and his other best friend (F, 19) moved in together to go to another uni. Well my best friend started dating his other best friend. UPDATE: My best friend (now boyfriend!!) (M, 21) and HIS best friend (F, 19) were faking a relatonship. As it turns out, he had been into me the whole time and was by now desperate enough to agree when she had the grandiose idea to pretend to be together in order to make me jealous. This is the reason I never caught them kissing: she is a lesbian. I can't believe I didn't know that. I can't believe it actually worked. I can't believe that me punching him in the face was his bi awakening. At least this whole thing had a happy ending. I will now bury myself into a hole.

Six Sentence Sunday

Happy timezones everyone! I've been super busy outside of here and I'm prepping for Jancy week and praying I manage to wrap up my Big Bang fic in time (it is gonna be close, I'm starting to run out of story to tell and I have a minimum I need to hit so we shall see how that goes). But I got some bits coming for you today: this, the Stonathan Sunday here later, maybe the last Whumptober drabble if I get my life together. I just keep diving from prepping for one project week to another because it is super-motivating for me right now, but the Amnesia fic is being postponed this month because of literally everything in IRL happening. Which sucks, I had a good Whumptober prompt to go along with it, but it isn't gonna be ready in time for Halloween so... I'll save it for later! In the meantime, have another bit from the genderqueer Jonathan fic that I'm working on for Jancy week:

The fact that not only was he rolling with Nancy’s weird thought process about him but was actively considering it was telling. Not only in how much he trusted her but also in how deeply he cared to think about that sort of thing. Most guys would have probably brushed her off at best, but some would have gotten defensive or even violent if their girlfriend asked them if they were a boy. But Jonathan, he dived head first with her into looking through papers and books trying to parse out what exactly she was trying to explain and how it related back to how he felt. Honestly, it was a huge turn-on, but Jonathan had always been twitchy about sexual touches even if he craved every other type so she tried to let him initiate those. And his attention was wrapped up in their research project, so he wasn’t exactly looking to initiate it right now.
