Litany against "we should really just refactor the whole thing." "We should really just refactor the whole thing" is the <2 hour ticket-killer.
#BUT WE SHOULD REALLY JUST REFACTOR THE WHOLE THING#this component structure made sense for the V1 design but the current design has no reason to fork the structure like this#which becomes more and more obvious the more I fix this bug#we should really just refa#chrissy speaks

"anyone got any dark lgbt horror book recs"
"well it's not horror but the locked to-"
#ive never read these books but it reminds me a lot of the 'mcr is metal' tumblrina crowd. SIGH#'do you have any horror recs' 'no but you should read this book anyway' come on.#because something shares the aesthetics of a genre does not mean it shares the structure or essential components etc#Horror Is A Genre That Is Scary#etc#similarly people recommending fucking beetlejuice 2 as a good Beginner Horror Movie??????????#family comedy with skeletons. i hope we all die#anyway the embodiment of this post and a second demon called 'genre is fake anyway' are warring in my head 24/7#so the solution is just to stay off tumblr i suppose

Now I am no scholar of Greek/Roman mythology but I just finished Kaos (which I loved) and I really appreciated the different takes on the myths and how they were intertwined which, to me, feels quite true to the original function of myth not as a clear set of written stories but a fluid canon that we now only know through specific written works. Also, the implication of modernity existing as archaic Greeceâie. a time where Troy was still in living memoryâbut with heavy counter-reformation influence really made me crack up.
#kaos netflix#I have had two (2) real life encounters with Jeff goldblum so the whole time I kept feeling like I know him#despite the fact that we never actually exchanged words#just sort of weird eye contact#also love the recent trend of depicting bureaucracy as an essential component in the structure of the universe

Weep Holes: An Essential Component For Structural Integrity
The world of construction methodologies is vast, dynamic, and continuously evolving. Among the myriad of procedures and mechanisms crucial to the development of robust structures, a particularly crucial yet often overlooked feature is the âweep hole.â In this blog, we delve deeper into what weep holes are, focus mainly on their application in cinder block structures, reasons for their installation near the footing, and the benefits that they provide related to relieving water trapped within a structure.
To begin with, letâs establish what Weep Holes are. Weep holes, as the name suggests give an image of something that exudes, seeps out, or, indeed, weeps. In construction parlance, they are purposely drilled in a structure to allow the movement of water or to let it escape from within.
Though these holes can be integrated into several types of structural system, their use is widely popular in cinder block constructions. Cinder blocks, also known as concrete masonry units, are commonly used in residential as well as commercial construction due to their affordability, strength, and insulation properties. Their design usually involves hollow cores, or cavities, that can unintentionally trap water within. Whether itâs from groundwater, landscape irrigation, or rainfall, the cinder block can host this water, giving birth to many potential issues such as mold, mildew, efflorescence, or even structural failure if water freezes and expands.
Therefore, to alleviate these concerns, weep holes are drilled into the cinder blocks, typically in the bottom row and near the footing. Placed lower down because water tends to flow to the lowest point due to gravity, these openings play a vital role in the overall health and longevity of the structure.
When water is present in the hollow cavities of the cinder block, the weep holes facilitate an escape route. But it isnât just about aiding drainage; these holes also play an essential part in the structureâs ventilation, helping trapped moisture to dry up more quickly.
One might wonderâwhy near the footing? The footing of a building is the lowest part of the structure, usually installed below ground level. For blocks near the footing, water accumulation is most likely due to their proximity to the ground. To prevent rising dampness creeping up into the structure and ensure optimal effectiveness, weep holes are strategically drilled near the footing.
One concern that often arises about weep holes is the threat of small creatures or pests entering through them. To prevent this, weep holes are generally covered with plastic, steel, or another type of mesh to allow water escape but deter critters.
Letâs sum up the importance of weep holes: They are not a construction afterthought but an essential design feature engineered to prolong and conserve the structural integrity of cinder block structures, whether they be a garden wall, chicken coop, house, or commercial building. By simultaneously promoting ventilation and facilitating the drainage of trapped water within the cinder blocksâ hollow cavities, weep holes help to prevent the onset of undesirable moisture issues, water damage, and structural instability.
So the next time you come across some random, small holes in a structure, remember, they arenât gaps in design or construction; theyâre mitigating water damage one drop at a time. This is the importance of an often overlooked, yet vital construction element â the weep hole.

Flames,, blanket boy, my beloved
I gotta draw more art like this of him, he's such an odd creature I love him so much
There's so much to his character that I never talk about aaa I'll make a lore post eventually
#i have thoughts about this guy#he's so hungry for affection and that social and physical contact he see's all the people in his city get#he's takes up so much after them in so many ways#maintenance on this guy... mechanics working on checking all the wires and circuits and touching all the sensitive nerves and neuron flies#its nice that his entire structure is well taken care of but he also wouldnt be able to focus on anything else#he's so used to working in perfect undisturbed conitions..must be so distracting when something changes#he'd have his overseers watching as they plug things in and test stuff and poke around in his guts#and maybe he'll enjoy it a too much and he'll beep when a cable is pushed in.. its not like the sounds are unusual#the structure is alway whirling and buzzing.. whats a few extra clicks and hums when a particularly sensitive component is touched#its not like they would know unless they were really paying attention to the sounds and looking for a reaction#trying to please their beloved supercomputer#he longs for the same love they're capable of but it does quite work out. They can't hug him in a way that feels the same#does affection mean anything to him when its so little. They cant love him in a way that properly means something#i guess flames eventually getting into a relationship fills that affection hole#someone who speaks the same language. someone who he can relate to and understand#someone capable of touching all his systems in just the right way#ajfjsj went off i the tags here uh im so tired im kinda losing consciousness as i was typing oops#rain world#iterator#rain world oc#iterator oc#oc four blue flames#drawins#suggestive

is it strange that the Enigma of Combination was so vilified(?) for being the Thing That Makes Combiners or is it just 5am
#transformers#idk if my critical reading skills slipped my brain while i was reading idw#or if prime wars is so bad i just cant understand it at all#but was the main problem w the enigma the fact that it turned 5 robots into 1 big robot as a sixth entity borne of its components#who had a personality & independence as real as any of its component members yet could willingly dissociate into those 5 robots again#& by virtue of that independence could only be controlled by a governing body by replacing one or more of its gestalt#w someone loyal to that governing body or even singular person/ideal#thus fundamentally altering how the 1 giant robot's priorities & worldview are structured in a way that borders on mind control/manipulatio#but in the absence of that alteration the 1 robot & its gestalt would be treated as an unstable threat even when uncombined#even if the gestalt and/or combiner show no evidence of these threats & may just want to exist outside of combat#& that the enigma is what put the gestalt together as a combiner for better or for worse & can readily do so whenever#or should i have just gone to bed six hours ago when i was tired#maccadam

homestuck/hiveswap music opinions? (doesn't have to be both)
I'm obsessed with vriskas motif, and conductors cabin in hiveswap, plus raw honey reminds me of a harvest moon song I've spent years wishing I could remember
I LOVE RECURRING MUSICAL MOTIFS AND I LOVE ALBUMS COMPOSED BY A BUNCH OF DIFFERENT ARTISTS I LOVE ALBUM ART!!!
vriskas motif goes HARD esp with the guitar riffs or whatever the fuck they got going on with that. killed by 8r8k spider goes so fucking hard for no reason and like good for her. she has some of the best character tracks.
but my FAVORITE FAVORITE leitmotif is liquid negrocity/ballad of jack noir. it literally makes me go crazy hearing it bc you know shits about to go the fuck down.
and its like. i also go "hi toby" whenever im listening to that motif come up.
im also a big fan of tensei and james roachs work on the homestuck osts, i ESPECIALLY love roachs stuff for the friendsim/pesterquest stuff.
also, fun fact: old secret from hiveswap literally made me start crying because of boldirs scene in pesterquest. its so mournful in that context and the violin with the low brass band REALLY pulls it together.
i like to rank homestuck/hiveswap music based on how much fucking chills i get hearing it. like. making me go "oooggghh the themes."
its also why songs like flare make me fucking transcendent. my homestuck music tastes varies wildly between "big epic boss fight" and "the most melancholy shit youve ever heard"
#ask#anonymous#like. god. also music as a thematic structure in homestuck narrative itself#the conductors baton. the pipe organ. playing the rain. beat mesa.#music is such an integral component of homestucks framework its soooo crazy

just kinda quietly waiting for the horse pack to come out before I make any unicorn cas stuff just in case they've already modeled a horn for me
#I do not want to model a unicorn horn but I do want to have one#one of the main rules of topology is no spirals#but one of the main structural components of a unicorn horn is yes spirals#so like I don't know how I'm gonna reconcile that#it's not like my topology is ever the best but I try

*decides to write an adventure in a thri kreen village*
*realize after making the first map for their hut interiors that they don't sleep and do wouldn't have beds*
*realize while working on a new map that there are probably even more physiological factors that would influence their dwelling spaces*
*wind up googling "do bugs shit" because the results I get with more scientific language, like "arthropod waste excretion" was mostly comprehensible, but talking about the chemicals they excrete and I don't know enough about chemistry*
*decide that, since arthropod excretory outlets are on the tip of their abdomens, and non-bug people would probably mostly not know that and arthropod excrement is mostly dry and fairly innocuous that they probably have little taboo around it, and simply prefer a reasonably sheltered space simply due to the fact that they're predators and every predator is vulnerable while shitting*
*finally decide that their frass(1) is a component in dasl(2) so they store it in barrels, or at least the village blacksmith does*
*oh, and i also have to think about their fucking abdomens when I'm selecting chairs and such for the map!*
1- frass is the actual term for the waste that arthropods excrete. It's dry and crumbly because between size and how bug bodies work, they need to minimise water loss. Thri kreen are of course not small, but they're native to deserts, so their waste is probably still roughly equivalent in consistency to that of normal insects
2- dasl is a crystalline resin that thri kreen use to make their traditional weapons, the chatkcha and gythka. They allow other people to believe that thri kreen mine dasl, and simply closely guard the locations of dasl deposits, but in actuality they create it with a mixture of saliva, their venom, sand, and a certain herb (per 2nd edition).
Dasl is essentially a sacred object in Thri Kreen culture, as it is the material for their traditional weapons, but also because it is a product of their own bodies, and so they see it as a part of themselves.
#dungeons and dragons#d&d#dungeons & dragons#dnd#fantasy#rpgs#thri kreen#bug people#mantis#several real bugs use their frass as building component; defense mechanism; or even food for larvae that can't yet digest their normal diet#hell maybe the clay these thri kreen use in a lot of structures in the village use frass too!#autistic world building

Gonna post about our iterator OC now. Fun fact: Unit of Radioactive Decay's umbilical arm has significantly less range of motion than other iterator models, including other iterator models from their generation!
It prioritizes delivery of water and nutrients to their puppet over movement, which makes it a good bit clunkier than other arms - almost all of the joints in there can only bend one way, and the few that don't are only two-way, unlike an arm like Pebbles that more or less lets him bend however the fuck he wants.
In general, they tend to prioritize having parts that are easily maintained or replaced over anything else - kind of a necessity for them, but some of the people who originally dreamed them up would have an utter heart attack over the sheer number of substitutions present in their structure by now.
#some day we will draw this. not today tho#rain world#ocs#unit of radioactive decay#this also means that they have an actual consistent schematic for their arm that we. havent drawn out a ref for#we usually only draw out the first five segments but their full arm has eight#granted the ones we omit are the three big segments they collapse or unfold to change their proximity to the wall but yknow#they dont have the joints you see on normal iterator arms because that shit is A Hinge#their citizens cared for them greatly and highly movable and jammable components are a liability when youre prone to jamming#a lot of their equipment is simply what requires the least maintainance since maintained or not things Will break constantly#theyre built in a swamp. shit needs to be replaced all the fuckin time bc that was a dumb idea.#they were a ship of theseus type project when they were a research outpost#and now theyre a ship of theseus project that is breaking down regardless#the amount of redundancy in their structure is the only reason they didnt break down less than six months after ascension#and as is it mostly just lets them feel them slowly break and decay and feel their systems shatter and fall back on backups on backups#knowing that some day their systems will ultimately fail and they will fall#they were a âat this point it would be less effort to build another iterator but we've already put in this much workâ project#to their citizens at least

something i do as the very fast walking person is zigzag back and forth so i don't leave anyone behind, because it's hard for me to walk slowly (for a variety of reasons).
slow down for your disabled friends. thats like a bare minimum kindness that we shouldnt have to ask for. i love that youre so quirky and walking fast is a cool personality trait to you and all that but i bet you can count your physically disabled friends on less than one hand
#my partner has my full permission to physically grab me if i keep forgetting to slow down#this works shockingly well as long as the person walking in a more reasonable place can tolerate you buzzing around like a fly#ik its an adhd restlessness thing but i also think theres a structural component#im p weak and not stable when i walk so slowing down is actually a lot more taxing and difficult#I often feel like if I stop moving I am going to fall over lol#we must meet each other in the middle#not image described#commentary
