Important COTTA Announcement

Hello Friends and History Lovers. 

I’ve been procrastinating making this announcement for the last couple of months, mostly trying to convince myself that I need not make it. I've actually had this sitting in my Google Docs, waiting for the right time to break the news.

However, as we are now in May, and time is coming where normally I’d make the official COTTA announcement. I can’t put it off anymore. Besides, there is no right time to break the news.

After four amazing years, I am saying goodbye to Carry On Through The Ages. As much as I have loved and enjoyed spreading the love of history and plugging our Carry On characters into different historical periods, I find I no longer have the time nor the mental spoons to take on another year of COTTA by myself. 

I am not completely gone from the Carry On fandom. I am still hanging out in the periphery of the fandom, but there are other things in my personal and fandom life that I am very excited for. And when push comes to shove, I had to let go of something, otherwise I’d crash and burn. As much as it hurts, I’ve decided that COTTA had to be it. 

What does this mean?

Well, I won’t be deleting the tumblr, first of all. There are reblogged stories and art that exist there. 

I won’t be deleting the Discord server for COTTA. There were some amazing discussions and research done within the channels, that I can’t find it in myself to erase them. I encourage people to still use it for history talk and nerdery, even though COTTA is done. 

The AO3 collection will not be deleted, so don’t worry about your fics and art disappearing. 

It’s been an amazing past four years, and while we were a small event, we were a dedicated group of nerds who loved history so much and wanted to share that with the rest of the fandom. From the bottom of my heart, I thank each and every person who has shown support for COTTA. Whether by reblogging announcements, signing up and participating in the fest, or providing support for fellow writers and artists, you have all meant so much to me.

Radio Free Monday

Anon linked to a fundraiser for Davy, a fellow employee at Old Tucson amusement park, who was recently struck by a car while on his bike; he was already low-resourced, and was living in a homeless shelter with his wife and son at the time of the accident. One of the other staff at the park has started a gofundme to help support the family during his long recovery and hopefully get them a stable place to stay; you can read more and support the fundraiser here.

chibifukurou linked to a fundraiser for a fandom friend, Chroma, to get her back home so she can get help with health issues and housing. She's been stranded out of state with severe Long Covid, without access to a support network or adequate care; they're trying to get funds together to get her transportation and a month at an extended-stay hotel while she gets her feet under her. Hey everyone,

It's been a minute so I wanted to drop in and give a little update. Things have been busy and stressful and I haven't had the bandwidth to do much these last few months, but I promise I'll be back with more fanart and more chapters of A Lovely House of Bones when I can. The story especially. I have so much I want to get to in it, and I'm really excited to get to all the good parts and share them with you! So thank you for everyone who's been reading and leaving kudos and comments, and for those of you who like and reblog my art on here. I really appreciate the continued support, and I hope to have new art and story for you soon. ♥

The longer version of why I've been away is that, aside from multiple illnesses, my boyfriend needing surgery, and a continually flooding basement leading to health problems and strife with our landlords, my job has been killing me.

One of those "this job was already hard, but upper management made decisions that doubled everyone's workload, doesn't want to hear that it's not working, and refuses to give us the staff or resources we need to function" sorts of things that's breaking everyone down physically and mentally. We've been dealing with it for 9 months and it's only gotten worse and more exhausting over time. So as much as I miss writing and making art I just haven't had the ability to do it for it for a while.

The good news is I'm quitting.

Might be a stupid decision, but I hit my breaking point and had to. I've only got one more week, and then I'm out. I don't have new employment lined up yet, but I've got places I'm interviewing at and I'm keeping hopeful it'll all work out. And honestly, a few weeks off to rest, get my head back on straight, and hopefully get back to creating again is what I need.

So uh... when you start seeing new art (and especially writing) from me, you'll know things have gotten better. In the meantime, wish me luck on the job hunt. And really, thank you for all the support. I really love the Undertale community and I can't wait to be in a place where I can contribute to it again soon. ♥

also in the face of people deleting their blogs, that's another reason why you guys are supposed to reblog stuff. if somebody deletes a post, your liked version will disappear, but the reblogs remain. i'm insane about preservation and archival, every single piece of art i have ever enjoyed is reblogged on my 450k+ posts main account so if the artists leave I still have their work. i even tag things (though just with the main fandom tag) so I have years and years worth of fanworks saved that the terrible general site search will never show you.

please reblog art. not just to support the artists who make it and share their efforts, but also so you have your own copy of their works saved for yourself, and the future users of this site.

people like this exhaust me to no end. if artists asking for a little help getting visibility and traction for art that you enjoy and downloaded bothers you, then you don’t actually respect artists or the work, you just want the final product. believe it or not artists are not here at your beck and call to entertain you and then be tossed aside when you’ve gotten your fill. im not even asking for money or for you to tell your friends who made your phone wallpaper. im not asking you to make a post and link my socials or anything. im just asking for a simple reblog. there’s really no work required at all, im not even gonna know if you don’t reblog it and did save it, because it’s just a courtesy thing. but you just had to announce it anyway because you wanted to make sure i knew that you don’t respect my wishes for the people who like my art to support a starving artist with the click of a button while i’m making free content for you to enjoy. (and don’t get me wrong, i wouldn’t share my art if i didn’t enjoy it, but the support and feedback are my lifeline.) if you can’t respect my asking for a single reblog enough to even pretend you care by scrolling on by, then i don’t want you interacting with my content anyway. begone

Gonna say something because this is a personal blog: Genuinely hate how as an artist on social media, you can only grow an audience if you either: draw the exact same thing in the exact same style over and over again OR dedicate yourself to drawing fanart of the current most popular shows / games.

If you wanna be like....... a normal artist, then you're out. You have no chance. This reality hits me every time and it makes me... sad? Especially because to me, the most rewarding part of making art is getting to show others what I made. But hardly anyone's gonna look, unless you focus on that one thing and recycle it into eternity.

I always challenge myself to draw unique artwork without any "repeats" (altho, I've also learned to sometimes go easy and let myself draw a comfort zone artwork). But it's clearly not a way to make an impression or grab people's attention. If you draw x and someone's interested in that, they won't follow you unless your profile contains a whole array of xa and xb and xc and xd and xe and xf etc.

And it's just so weird, because while you might find monetary success with one approach, each approach comes with unhappiness. Either you draw what you want, and are unhappy about nobody being there to look at your stuff OR your force yourself to drive down a single narrow road (is any artist happy doing that?) while gaining a following and perhaps financial success. And I guess many people work jobs they hate, but the reason why I wanna do illustration is because I don't want to hate my job.

So, the only way out of this dilemma is to get those sweet commercial jobs, but jobs for graduates chronically do not exist. And then you think like, if I'm working minimum wage (or far below) anyway, why don't I just pick up a minimum wage job. I know I would love some assembly line work, but then I won't have time to draw anymore!!!!

Incohesive rant about a dilemma: done.

Also I want to add: If you chose to stick with me despite me not drawing that One Thing or That Fanart - You are the best, I love you, thanks.

It is not the first time I am doing it. I might forgot to put "please don't tag it as ship" under my drawing of tighnari cyno. Please, do not !

I love them as best friend, I love them as brother/found family, I don't mind the queerplatonic relationship at all

But their romantic side make me pretty uncomfortable. No hate ! It is my own taste.

Shippers are always welcomed and I am so glad you like my content 💕 but all my art concerning them (unless I tag the ship) are purely platonic. I just ask for some respect of my taste and not reblog my art with the ship tag.

I don't want to block, because I am genuinely glad you enjoy my work and as a young artist, it means a lot for me. Thank you so much 🙇 !! But as a human, I can't deny how uneasy it makes me feel.
