Gorilla God's Girl is one of those shows that in reality is a 5/10. The production, the pacing, the actual plot of the story and the romance portions is impeccably low-tier shoujo that its almost shoujo slop, but the premise and the characters somehow bump it up to a 6 if not a generous 7/10. It's one of those shows where if it was given more budget, and maybe was willing to explore other romance options other than the milquetoast princely protagonist, it would be incredible. The show has you coming back each week because there are parts that get you invested- Sophia trying to hide the god's blessing but her gorilla strength happening at any moment, the comedy of sometimes seeing the gorilla god's spirit behind her making the same blushing face as her, the dynamics of Eddy and Isaac and Sophia as a trio, the fact that the prince is most likely blessed by the Squirrel god and is shapeshifting into a squirrel- it's also golden. But then you have to deal with you screaming at the screen begging Sophia to do what the viewer has already figured out 20 minutes ago (throw the bomb into the sky, but no she has to stare at the bomb for five minutes, then run off with it, then think about just blowing herself up to contain the blast, and it's not until squirrel boy makes her look at the fireworks does she think to KICK not throw it-), and the shoujo problem of all the characters insisting Louis is the prettiest, hottest character when he's so bland and boring and barely drawn that it's all surface level.
This is all from someone who IS enjoying the show. When I started it, before I knew it was from a series of light novels, the show felt like an otome game anime adaption, which I feel like this premise would be more suited for. Eddy and Isaac are such good characters and their bond with Sophia is already much stronger and more compelling than her and Louis outside of Louis just being a "goal" or a way for Sophia to "win" at the story by getting with the top guy everyone wants. (I'm not saying the story writing itself writes it as a goal, but trope wise it's sort of what the protagonist gets at the end for all her struggles, the happy ending with the prince charming.) I wish this story was actually from an otome game because then there would be more given to Eddy and Isaac, more material drawn from a game about choosing who to romance thus giving us more of a reverse harem situation. While I do like that Sophia has male friends building around her a nonromantic support system, the characters feel wasted in this show that's going to just put them to the side and gush about Louis again. Even Louis being able to transform into a squirrel is SO on brand for otome game junk, there's always an animal companion character and they always inexplicably can also turn into a hot guy (Brothers Conflict anyone? I feel like even Kamigami no Asobi had that with Melissa, although I don't remember if they transformed).
In the end, it's just very frustrating because like I said, it's a 5/10 show, but in the hands of a better author, it could be higher than that. Unfortunately it feels like we have a protagonist who, while being blessed by the gorilla god's strength, also got the gorilla god's intelligence, and is so stupid and empty headed that it's actually painful to watch.

The hits just keep on coming with the Harris campaign. It’s almost hard to keep up with the good news.
With that, here we go:
Barack and Michelle Obama issued the following statement this morning:
“Earlier this week, we got a chance to catch up with a friend who we’ve known for more than 20 years. She’d had a pretty busy couple of days, to say the least. But we couldn’t be more excited for her -- or more thrilled to endorse Kamala Harris as the Democratic nominee for President of the United States.
“We agree with President Biden -- choosing Kamala was one of the best decisions he’s made. She has the resume to prove it: As a prosecutor, she defended the Constitution and fought for folks who deserve a fair shake. As California’s Attorney General, she worked hard to ensure everyone was treated fairly, no matter who they are or who they love. As a Senator, she was one of the strongest voices holding the Trump administration accountable. And, as Vice President, she helped lead the charge on expanding the Affordable Care Act, combating climate change, fighting for reproductive freedom, equality, and the rule of law.
“But Kamala has more than a resume. She has the vision, the character, and the strength that this critical moment demands. There is no doubt in our mind that Kamala Harris has exactly what it takes to win this election and deliver for the American people. At a time when the stakes have never been higher, she gives us all reason to hope.
“We know over the next few months, Kamala will continue to make her case directly to the American people -- Democrats, Republicans, and independents alike. As she does, she will have our full support -- and we look forward to watching her unite our party and our country around a vision for a brighter, fairer, more prosperous future.
“We’re going to do everything we can to elect Kamala Harris the next President of the United States. And we hope you’ll join us.”
Harris campaign “Breaks Zoom”:
From the HollywoodReporter - Hundreds of thousands of Kamala Harris supporters have rallied behind the presumptive Democratic nominee this week, with Zoom calls breaking records with six-digit attendance numbers.
The events started Sunday following President Joe Biden’s announcement he would not seek re-election. More than 44,000 Black women joined a call to galvanize supporters for the vice president’s historic run for president, drawing celebrity names — including Yvette Nicole Brown and Jenifer Lewis — and raising an estimated $1.5 million.
The trend continued with thousands of Black men on a call earlier this week (they raised $1.3 million), followed by Zooms for white women, LGBTQ supporters, South Asian supporters and more.
At the white women call Thursday night, there were more than 100,000 participants (officially now 150,000), a number so staggering it caused significant technical glitches that sent many to watch the livestream on YouTube, where more than 25,000 also joined the call. ($10 million was raised)
Hollywood was represented across the interest groups. Mindy Kaling joined the South Asian call, with George Takei, Zachary Quinto, Raven Simone, Sophia Bush, Ashlyn Harris, Brian Michael Smith and Justin Tranter attending the LGBTQ call. (Tranter, the co-writer of Chappell Roan’s “Good Luck Babe,” announced he would donate $20,000 to the cause.)
Katie McGrath, Connie Britton, Pink and more signed on to the white women’s call, with Pink reportedly joining right after leaving the stage of a performance in Sweden.
Another Zoom call, women for Harris, is scheduled for this weekend.
Grace outperforms ignorance:
JoeBiden’s farewell address drew 29 million viewers - nearly triple the number that watch Mushroom Donnie’s acceptsance speech.
Harris points to a different direction regarding Israel and Gaza:
After meetiongwith Netanyahu, Kamal Harris said the following:
"I have met with the families of these American hostages multiple times now, and I've told them each time they are not alone, and I stand with them. And President Biden and I are working every day to bring them home.
"With over 2 million people facing high levels of food insecurity, and half a million people facing catastrophic levels of acute food insecurity. What has happened in Gaza over the past nine months is devastating; the images of dead children and desperate, hungry people fleeing for safety, sometimes displaced for the second, third or fourth time.
"Let us all condemn terrorism and violence. Let us all do what we can to prevent the suffering of innocent civilians. And let us condemn antisemitism, Islamophobia and hate of any kind. And let us work to unite our country."
President Biden has made Val Demmings a Governor of the Postal Service. Can we now finally fire Louis De(no)Joy and restore thePost Office?
We knew Trump was rattled by Kamala’s arrival in the campaign, but we didn’t think he would actually wimp out of the debate. But that’s exactly what the orange chickenshit did yesterday. Making up some silly bullcrap about “Barack Hussein Obama” and flailing like the hopeless loser that he is, Trump has officially backed out of the scheduled debate in September. Vice President Harris is already calling him out and making sure the media knows she is ready to go.
All seven battleground states - AZ, GA, MI, NC, NV, PA, WI - are clearly competitive now and in play. New battleground state polls this week also showed Harris gaining and in a competitive position in all seven states. Polls of Maine and New Hampshire found Harris at Biden 2020 numbers, an election Biden won by 4.5 pts. Simon Rosenberg: “To be honest the movement we are seeing towards Harris this week has been a bit surprising to me. It usually takes a while for big events to work their way through the electorate. So that we are seeing meaningful movement this early is a good sign.”
I’ll end for now with across-post from Kareem Abdul Jabar. I think this has significance for all of us here:
Life is a long lesson in humility.
—James M. Barrie, author of Peter Pan
“Barrie should have added, “If we’re lucky.” By that I mean we’re lucky if our lives last long enough for it to be a “long lesson.” But I also mean we’re lucky to have constant reminders on how to be humble because that makes us empathetic to others and lays a foundation for being able to love and be worthy of being loved. In other words, humility breeds happiness.
“Arrogance is the enemy of humility. That need to feel like we matter beyond the confines of our little world means we can only feel important when validated by others—not by ourselves. Unfortunately, the need for that validation often leads to unhappiness. For many, the only way to feel significant is to chase after some sort of fame or popularity. This can be done through gathering “likes” on social media or by accumulating wealth to flaunt. The idea is that if others are envious, the person has proven they are more significant than those who envy them. This is the math of madness.
“For a happy few, fame is merely a by-product of pursuing personal greatness—not to flaunt but just out of curiosity about how far they can go. This is true of the athlete and the artist, the inventor and the innovator. Their joy comes from their reach exceeding their grasp. It comes from the trying more than the succeeding. This path is littered with failure and humility, which only makes them strive harder. The joy is in the striving, not in the accolades of others. Or as Janis Joplin said, “On stage, I make love to 25,000 different people, then I go home alone.”
For me, being a speck of dust is not an existential burden but a profound relief. It is the great equalizer that reminds us we all face the same challenges of wanting to feel useful, needed, and worthy. Humility teaches us that those challenges are overcome through compassion, kindness, and love for others rather than seeking power over others.
“There is nothing that teaches humility more than aging. The increasing frailties of the body remind me daily just how insignificant so much of what I once thought was important really is. I also am acutely aware of how many opinions I had in my youth and even later that embarrass me today. That humility taught me to form my opinions carefully using facts, experts, and research rather than my biased gut or peer pressure.
“The closing door of life just inspires me to make a positive difference in others’ lives while that door is still open, even if just a crack and I can see light. Humility lights the way.”
You can’t go wrong taking advice from Kareem.
Robert Hubbell has been ending his daily posts with astronomical photos he’s taken. To me, they’re humbling to think a small being on a small planet orbiting a small sun at the edge of a small galaxy can look out at creation and comprehend it. So of course the following is a perfect ending. (Thanks Kareem)

The actor Ian Bannen was born in Airdrie, Lanarkshire, on June 29th,1928.

But Ian was equally renowned for his stage and television performances and gained a reputation as a versatile actor, often overshadowing those in the leading role.

pilar and sophia, sophia and pilar ✨
a codependent personal assistant and the reluctant cult leader that she adores, for a The Walking Dead ttrpg campaign that ended recently. sophia is the preacher archetype, except with essential oils and crystals instead of a standard religion. she's also canonically schizophrenic, and it was really fun to play a character who was like me that way. in my heart they are played by vic michaelis and jiavani respectively. bonus points if you know which scene of vic and jiavani this pose was referenced from. special thanks to my monthly ko-fi supporters, the minamahal: ate emily, ate rachel, and jo! 💕
id in the alt text and under the cut
id: greyscale digital sketch of pilar and sophia, shown from the chest up, leaning into each other and smiling. pilar, facing the viewer, is a fair-skinned woman with sharp features and long, curly hair. she is wearing glasses with round frames, a white shirt, a dark cardigan, and a necklace with a wire-wrapped crystal pendant. sophia, facing left, is a medium-skinned woman with soft features, long straight hair, and bangs. she is wearing a sleeveless black top, pearl earrings, and a necklace with a wire-wrapped crystal pendant and small crystal shards along the chain. both of their eyes are closed. rays of light emanate from behind sophia. in the top right corner is "pilar and sophia" in cursive. id ends.

Thank you so much for being one of my first and only mutuals! I'm making a great first impression by sending you a terrible ask - how would you rate the six One Tree Hill seasons that Chad was on the show from your first to sixth based purely from a Brucas perspective? For instance, Season 5 is one of my least favorite seasons of the series but I love the Brucas content so would probably rank it as high as second on this list. I'm sorry if I worded this in too convoluted a way! Please don't feel pressured to answer.
You're welcome! You definitely aren't making any sort of bad impression and your question makes perfect sense to me.
1.) Season 2 - This one kind of has to be the best. It's the only season where there's less of a triangle between Brooke, Lucas and Peyton and much more focus on Brucas's individual feelings for each other with their potential relationship being given the room to grow. I loved watching their friendship form and seeing Lucas pine for Brooke. Plus, the chemistry between Chad and Sophia was so raw. So how do you not love it?
2.) Season 3 - I love the vast majority of the third season and watching Brooke and Lucas settle into their second relationship. So many of their most iconic moment happened this season. But, this was also when the ghost of Leyton started lingering in the background and eventually ruined everything.
3.) Season 5 - I agree with you 100% about season 5. It's a mess in a lot of ways and suffered somewhat due to the writers' strike. I'm fully aware a lot of the Brucas teasing only happened for the sake of the season's cliffhanger where they pretended for a few minutes that Lucas wasn't going to end up with Peyton, but still. I LOVED watching Brooke and Lucas support each other and spend time together as adults. The chemistry was as great as it always was. Regardless of the eventual endgame, it felt much more natural seeing Brooke and Lucas bonding and finding this new yet familiar rhythm than it did watching Peyton pitifully holding on to "true love always" as Lucas did all he could to spend time with anyone except Peyton.
4.) Season 1 - Obviously, things ended terribly. No matter how much Lucas liked Brooke and enjoyed spending time with her, he was way too fixated on the idea of Peyton and making something happen with his longtime crush to give their relationship a proper chance. In spite of this, Brooke and Lucas were very fun and had this great physical chemistry that was notably lacking with Lucas and Peyton. But even beyond that, the few moments where Brooke and Lucas connected on an emotional level were just... A+. It would have been so easy to make Brooke and her relationship with Lucas this throwaway thing. In fact, I'm sure many viewers would have preferred that, but the fact Brooke's heartbreak was taken seriously and Lucas was forced to deal with what he'd done was the much better writing choice.
5.) Season 4 - To be honest, both seasons 4 and 6 were big disappointments for different reasons. These are both Lucas/Peyton heavy seasons with minimal Brucas interaction. I hated the heavy handed writing meant to tear down Brucas's past and Brooke as a character all to justify Lucas and Peyton coming together. But, this season features the scene where Lucas shows Brooke what he wrote about her in his book. It's a very beautiful, underrated moment. Brooke's the other half of Lucas's book, indeed.
6.) Season 6 - In season 6, Brooke and Lucas barely seemed to acknowledge the other existed outside of their relationships with Peyton. They got a handful of moments, but not nearly enough for my liking.

Kyle Richards’ Daughter Sophia Reveals Hair Loss Linked to Weight Loss Drug: What You Need to Know
Sophia Umansky, daughter of reality TV star Kyle Richards, has recently sparked conversation online after candidly revealing her struggle with hair loss, which she believes may be linked to the use of a popular weight loss medication. In a TikTok video that quickly gained attention, the 25-year-old showed visible clumps of hair in her shower, raising concerns about the potential side effects of medications used for rapid weight reduction.
Sophia has been using Mounjaro, a prescription drug approved for the treatment of Type 2 diabetes that is also widely used off-label to aid in weight loss. While she didn’t blame the medication entirely for the hair loss, she did suggest that it could be a contributing factor—especially when combined with rapid changes in diet and nutrition.
In her video, Sophia shared that the hair loss began around four months after starting the drug. She pointed out that her protein intake had dropped significantly and that she hadn’t been taking enough vitamins during this period, which may have further contributed to the issue. As a response, she has now incorporated collagen supplements, daily vitamins like Grüns, and hair growth serums such as OMI peptides into her routine in hopes of reversing the damage.
Her openness drew mixed responses from social media users. While many praised her honesty and willingness to talk about a sensitive topic, others urged her to seek professional medical advice, suggesting that thyroid issues or other underlying health conditions could also be at play. Some viewers expressed concern about the growing trend of using diabetes medications for aesthetic purposes, especially among younger adults.
Hair loss is not an uncommon side effect reported by individuals who undergo rapid weight loss, whether through medications, surgery, or restrictive dieting. Experts note that significant changes in nutritional intake—particularly a lack of essential nutrients like protein, iron, and biotin—can trigger a condition known as telogen effluvium, which causes hair to shed at an accelerated rate.
Drugs like Mounjaro work by mimicking a hormone that affects blood sugar and appetite, helping users feel full longer. While this can lead to substantial weight loss, it may also lead to decreased appetite and insufficient consumption of vital nutrients, resulting in side effects such as fatigue, muscle loss, and, as in Sophia’s case, hair thinning.
Sophia’s experience serves as a reminder that even widely praised weight loss solutions carry risks, particularly when not paired with proper dietary support and medical supervision. It also highlights the need for increased awareness around the physical and emotional toll that such side effects can take.
As weight loss drugs become more accessible and commonly used, especially among public figures and influencers, it’s crucial to balance the desire for quick results with a commitment to long-term health. Anyone considering a weight loss medication should consult with a healthcare provider, undergo regular checkups, and ensure they’re receiving adequate nutrition to avoid unintended consequences.

Thanks for tagging me! It was an interesting article, and I do have some thoughts.
Non-TDers would say that they put out articles all the time about dead characters, which is true, but how how many articles do you read tying Sasha or Tyreese or Abraham or even Glen to the emotional arc of the current characters?
Few, if any.
I would also say that there are more Beth centric articles than the others. Why?
I believe it is AMC sanctioned/encouraged press.
It's obvious that this article is reminding readers of Beth's connection to two of the central characters of the current spin-offs. The article reminds the reader of the grief they both endured from her death. I'll get back to this in a minute.
If you think about the arcs of the main characters of the spin-offs, most of them have been fulfilled. In fact, in order to create drama, the writers have been forced to reopen arcs that were closed during the flagship.
This has lead to FRUSTRATION among many fans. The stories feel tired and stale because the emotional arcs that characters had completed are being reopened. The story feels pointless and old at times because of this.
Here is what I mean:
Negan- had his redemption arc from evil leader to a humbled contributing community member. He even had a functional, loving relationship. Now it appears that they are trying to reopen this arc to have something to write for him.
Carol- had overcome Sophia's loss enough to be the happiest we had ever seen her with Henry and Zeke. She had years of her "happy ending" creating the loving family she didn't get with Ed and Sophia. They had to reopen this arc in order to write anything for her.
Rick and Michonne- Rick's arc was all about finding his family. As he said in season 9, "I found them." Michonne's was about letting go of her first family and opening her heart to another. These arcs were completed. TOWL was interesting because an external force, the CRM, forced their arcs to reopened. The mysterious time away made the viewer interested in seeing how they would overcome this external conflict to close their arcs again.
Negan and Carol's arcs are more internal. Even though Negan was kidnapped, he can still determine his own actions. This is why, in my opinion, as much as I love watching Negan, his emotional journey is not gripping and too much focus on it leads the viewer to boredom. We have seen it before. Same with Carol. Their best use now is to support Daryl and Maggie in the completion of their arcs.
Daryl and Maggie's arcs are incomplete. So, their stories need to drive these spin-offs in order for it to be interesting.
Daryl needs to find his "happy ending" by creating the loving family he never had. He will fulfill this through a loving, intimate relationship and becoming the father he never had.
Maggie needs to let go and allow herself to truly connect to others again. As she said herself in DC season 1, " There were only a few people I ever cared anything about in this world." She has lost them all except Hershel. The pain and fear of further loss kept her emotionally distant from Hershel. For the first time in 2x04 she expresses that even though she seems tough on the outside, she's terrified all the time. Of what? More pain and loss. When she lets go and allows herself to be happy again, her arc will be complete.
Who is the one character that could help BOTH Daryl and Maggie complete their arcs??
BETH!
This article reminds us of this. Both spin-offs have given us massive Beth symbolism. I do believe that Beth will eventually, before the end of this spin-off era, be part of both Maggie and Daryl's closing arcs.
Weird Article about Beth
Hello guys, it's been a while since I posted anything!
Idk if someone else already covered this, (let me know if that's the case) but I found an article that was written about a month ago, and it seems pretty interesting.
I feel like it talks about stuff we have always talked about, obviously, but I don't think I've ever read it in an article. It mentions how Dawn shooting her in the head was accidental ( and they highlighted this part), the famous "I've survived and you don't get it" line, and then it talks about how literally no one mentions Beth ever again after s5, although they missed s10(?) When Maggie is talking with Daryl, even though it was only a slight mention.
It also mentions that Daryl still wears her shoelaces 🤧
I'll attach some screenshots, but it's worth reading it all.

Finished watching That '80s Show and it's really not that bad???
I think it deserved at least a couple more seasons. The first episode wasn't amazing but I think the rest of the season was fairly enjoyable and that it had a lot of potential.
Corey was super enjoyable as a main man. There was never any mention of him (or Katie) being Eric's cousins so I'm not actually sure that's canon or not but it would've been a good way to link the two shows, maybe have a cameo from Eric himself at some point to draw in viewers. Katie was fun and I really liked her too, her energy and voice was captivating. Love the Valley girl personality lmao. I don't like her boyfriend though.
I loveeeeee Tuesday so much, and her dynamic with Corey was great.
Roger, Sophia, Margaret and RT were also really good supporting characters. I was pleasantly surprised to find a bisexual character in Sophia but I wish they hadn't went the kind of... predatory lesbian trope with her crush on Katie.
It was hard to tell where the show was planning to go in season two but since we'll never know...
It's nice to envision Corey and Tuesday moving in together and Corey's music career taking off. Katie and Sophia's friendship developing organically into a relationship would've been so fucking good.
It's a bummer it got cancelled honestly. Guest stars of the cast of That '70s Show for each season would've been awesome. Eric for the first, his parents for the second, etc.

Saltburn
[3 stars]
After Promising Young Woman blew me away, I admit I was possibly a bit over-eager to see what Emerald Fennell would come up with next. The result on offer is well-made and tense, keeping you pulled along through to the end…but it also tries just a little too hard. That doesn’t make Saltburn bad, just not quite the triumph I had been salivating for.
Fennell did, however, show her amazing directing chops again, coaxing out great performances. Barry Keoghan (Banshees of Inisherin) manages to come across almost normal and sympathetic at the top. Essential to the plot but also a challenge as the actor has such intense energy that all roles he touches seem to be fraught with malicious, sometimes even soulless anger. His story revolves around the very pretty, by design, Jacob Elordi who is the embodiment of naive privilege, sensuality, and object of desire. Fennell makes that work for all viewers through her dialogue and visual edits.
Supporting the story are some near-absurdist performances, again by design, that make the whole movie echo Sophia Coppola’s Marie Antoinette a little. Rosamund Pike (Wheel of Time) and Richard E. Grant (Earwig and the Witch) as the heads of house are full of social graces but devoid of social skills in a old country mansion surrounded by a small family group and human projects. One of these returns Carey Mulligan (Maestro) to Fennell’s cast in a sad-funny role who’s purpose becomes evident as the reels unspool.
What Fennell does truly well through the story is control the tone as it shifts and twists. It is a hormone and ego fueled mess of a tale that inches you along. And that ride was great. The ending, however, was a bit rushed and obvious (and a little cheap) for me, and certainly doesn’t answer all questions about Keoghan’s character. I couldn’t even quite get it to be social commentary, despite the setup.
Mostly Saltburn is a dark tale of obsession delivered with sure hands both in front of and behind the camera making it worth the effort. But you may also need to leave time for a brain cleanse when it’s done to balance your day or evening. Regardless, even with the small issues I had with the result, I’ll be just as hungry to see Fennell’s next when it arrives.

Merthur & Johnlock
You know what I just realized? I was (and still am) a big Johnlock shipper. I love Sherlock despite the many issues I have with it, and it was my primary mlm live action ship for a while.
Then Merlin came along.
I kid you not, I literally said out loud: “Why the fuck was I bothering with Sherlock?”
I didn’t mean it in a “show vs show” way, but more in a “vibe vs vibe” way. There was something about Merlin that made me happier and more excited than Sherlock ever did. Merlin and Arthur’s dynamic was some how so much more fun to me than John and Sherlock’s, which is interesting given the similarities.
Arthur’s a privileged royal who has Merlin take care of him. Sherlock is very capable consulting detective who has John take care of him.
Arthur and Merlin insult each other constantly without any real bite. John and Sherlock insult each other constantly without any real bite.
Both pairs pretend not to care as much as they do, and go full “kill” mode if the other is in danger.
Neither of them know what “communication” means.
Arthur and Sherlock are both self centered and arrogant. Merlin and John are both sick and tired of their bullshit.
While Arthur and Sherlock can operate without Merlin and John, they struggle significantly when they’re absent. Arthur is a helpless mess, and Sherlock can’t focus on his cases to the point of missing an incredibly obvious detail.
Merlin and John are perfectly able to exist without Arthur and Sherlock, but they are miserable or constantly thinking about them. John lives with thinking Sherlock is dead for two years, and he’s super fucking depressed, even with a girlfriend he intends to marry. Merlin can’t go anywhere or do anything without thinking about if Arthur will be safe, and talks about him constantly for no real reason.
Both pairs are willing to die to save the other.
They both get jealous/protective when someone they don’t approve of is making advances. With Merlin it’s the princesses and ladies that take advantage of him, like Sophia, Vivian and Elena (albeit unknowingly), and Mithian, even though there was nothing wrong with her. The only relationship he supports is with Gwen. John gets super aggressive and protective when Irene is messing with Sherlock. Sherlock goes out of his way to interfere and insult every woman John is involved with aside from Mary. While Arthur never sees or is confronted with the idea of Merlin actually in a relationship, I’d assume it would go pretty similarity. His response to being told that Merlin is even “seeing a girl” is disbelief and skepticism when he gets back.
They both make ridiculous amounts of direct eye contact that anyone with eyes notices as being a bit much for friends.

Tumblr media
I could probably find even more if I continued to think about it, but my point is that they’re very similar dynamics. So why do I like Merthur so much more than Johnlock?
I finally figured it out!
It’s because in Sherlock, their relationship is constantly questioned and denied throughout the whole show. It’s both a joke, and not a joke. But because it takes place in modern times, we constantly get reminders of “he’s not my boyfriend” or “I’m not gay” and constant jabs from side characters.
Merlin doesn’t take place in an era where they would talk like that. You could come up with equivalent dialogue that fits the time period, but it would definitely feel out of place. So it just doesn’t happen. Nowhere in Merlin are Arthur and Merlin poked fun at/bugged about whether their relationship is platonic. Nowhere in Merlin does Arthur or Merlin say “I’m not gay” or “he’s not my boyfriend”.
I didn’t realize how exhausting that was until it wasn’t there.
While Arthur is definitely attracted to women, and in love with Gwen, there’s never a moment where he denies Merlin. It’s because he’s never asked, but that gives the viewer more room to interpret their feelings.
With John, he’s constantly shutting down any suggestion of being gay, or being in a relationship with Sherlock, despite all the evidence in front of his face that he feels differently about him than other people.
Now that I’ve realized it, I’m shocked at how much of a difference that made in my feelings toward the shows and ships.
EDIT AFTER SEEING SOME REPLIES/REBLOGS: This is not meant to be interpreted as a Merthur VS Johnlock post!! I am purely talking about the subconscious difference in feeling I felt but couldn’t figure out!! This is not a breakdown of all my thoughts and feelings about the two shows/ships! It’s not meant to be about one being superior than the other! That’s why the title is Merthur AND Johnlock! Just clearing that up!!
