U.S. Marshal Sam Gerard

In the 1993 movie The Fugitive, Sam Gerard (played by Tommy Lee Jones) is a champion of justice.

As a U.S. Marshal, however, he gets too keen in pursuing an innocent man (Dr Richard Kimble , played by Tom Hanks) who was framed for a murder.

The Fugitive received 7 Academy Award nominations, and Tommy Lee Jones received an award for Best Supporting Actor.

Slow Horses

This darkly funny espionage drama follows a team of British intelligence agents who serve in a dumping ground department of MI5 due to their career-ending mistakes. Led by their brilliant but irascible leader, the notorious Jackson Lamb (Academy Award winner Gary Oldman), they navigate the espionage world’s smoke and mirrors to defend England from sinister forces.

In addition to a nomination for Best Television Series and Drama, Emmy Award-winning hit “Slow Horses” earns a Best Performance nod for lead Gary Oldman, his second Golden Globe nomination for “Slow Horses” in this category, alongside a Best Performance by a Supporting Actor nomination for Jack Lowden.

These follow Emmy and BAFTA Award nominations for their outstanding performances as the beloved, irascible Jackson Lamb (Oldman) and Slough House favourite River Cartwright (Lowden), among many other honours for the series.

La gara per la categoria del Miglior attore non protagonista ha avuto una battuta d’arresto subito dopo la distribuzione del film #JudasAndTheBlackMessiah, laddove l’interpretazione di #DanielKaluuya ha messo d’accordo la critica americana consentendogli di vincere i principali riconoscimenti chiave e dunque attestandolo come il favorito indiscusso. Prima di quel momento (il film è stato distribuito 2 mesi dopo l’inizio effettivo dell’Awards Season) questa categoria era caratterizzata da una sfida a 3: #PaulRaci (#SoundofMetal) che aveva conquistato un numero vertiginoso di premi assegnati dalle associazioni dei critici americani inseguito da #LeslieOdomjr. BANKOFMARQUIS OSCARS PICKS & PREDICTIONS:  SUPPORTING ACTOR

Best Supporting Actor  is usually a category where my favorite performance of the year takes place  (it's not this year - it's Laurie Metcalf's Supporting Actress performance in  LADYBIRD).  But...the performances in this category are solid, top to  bottom...    5).  Richard Jenkins - THE SHAPE OF WATER: another, typical, solid,  strong, gentle and humanistic performance by Jenkins (he, of the career full  of these).  When this type of performance is my 5th favorite, then we  have a strong category, indeed.    4).  Woody Harrelson - 3 BILLBOARDS OUTSIDE EBBING, MISSOURI:  When  I left the theater after seeing this film, I remarked to the person I was  seeing it with that I was impressed - and surprised - by Harrelson's  performance.  This guy can flat-out act.      3).  Christopher Plummer - ALL THE MONEY IN THE WORLD:  As most of  you know, Plummer stepped in at the 11th hour after the wise decision to  excise Kevin Spacey from this film.  All Plummer did was to deliver one  of the finest performances of his very fine career.    2).  Willem DaFoe - THE FLORIDA PROJECT:  This performance had all  the earmarks of a "career achievement" Oscar for Mr. DaFoe in that  he rose up above weaker material and shone in a way that he once did, but  hasn't really done in quite some time.  Unfortunately, what is holding  him back from the award is the lack of an "Oscar scene" (much like  Mary J. Blige in MUDBOUND).  DaFoe's performance is very good, bordering  on great, but just not, quite Oscar-worthy.  Especially when compared  to...    1).  Sam Rockwell - 3 BILLBOARDS OUTSIDE EBBING, MISSOURI:  His  performance as the unhinged, bigoted Sheriff's Deputy on Martin McDonaugh's  saga is the capper of a still shining career.  Rockwell has always given  solid, supporting performances and this one is no exception.  I've heard  some rumblings regarding the end of this film - and Rockwell's character  involvement in that - but I don't agree with that rumbling.  I think  Rockwell gives an Oscar-worthy performance, one that I would have voted for  and he WILL WIN the Oscar.    And you can take that to the Bank(ofMarquis)
