Intriguing...thank you for the prompt!

Robin nocked an arrow before raising his bow. He tried to focus on the apple and not whose head it was on. He needed a clear head. At the judge's signal, he released his arrow and prayed it found its mark.

"We have a winner!" the judge announced. "Congratulations, Robin Hood!"

Everyone cheered as Robin raced forward, stepping over his apple as he gathered Regina in his arms. "Never agree to do that again," he said, holding her close.

"I won't if you won't," she whispered, holding onto him tightly. "Deal?"

It was the easiest deal Robin had ever made.

@suseagull5914: If you're looking for a fic that has angst with a happy ending, this is definitely the first place I would start! Between the angst and writing skills of the author, I stayed up late multiple nights in a row just so I didn't end on too bad of a cliffhanger, and I absolutely loved every second of it! Not only that, but this fic helps the series come to such a satisfying conclusion, and, like The Throne He Deserves before it, paints such a good picture of just how far Alex will go for Henry- and Henry's response to that devotion. I'll say it again: I couldn't put this fic down!

What’s Up, Danger? (series) by @cultofsappho (book-verse)

@dot524: This story is a Spider-Man AU, and it’s so much fun! Since I first bookmarked it and added it to my TBR, it’s become a whole series, and the origin story might be my favorite. Alex is Spider-Man and Henry’s the one who finally found out what was going on with his boyfriend. But there’s a lot of angst and terror that goes along with being the significant other to a superhero. I hope this keeps getting updates, because each installment stands on its own in such a unique way and I want more of this AU!

It’s deliciously long, and every character — even Pez and Ellen — is perfectly written, adding real depth to the story.

In this Coffee Shop/University AU, Prince Henry has already left the UK to study in New York — determined to abdicate. But mentally, he’s not in a great place. Then he meets (non-famous) law student Alex, who’s working part-time at a coffee shop. The pining, folks — I practically melted into the sofa. The dual POV is perfect — Henry’s longing and Alex’s teasing are a joy to read, and watching their feelings grow is delightful.

This was a reread for me, but when I realized it wasn't on our list, I had to fix it, because the author does an amazing job at not only characterization, especially of David, but Henry and Alex too, which is always quite the feat for a oneshot!

@dot524: This is a soulmate fic but set in a sci-fi world where your entire life revolves around your “tether.” Alex opposes the idea of tethering with every iota of his being, but things change when June becomes ill and he conspires with Henry (who he’s just met) to use the tether benefits to pay for treatment. This one held me spellbound and the world is so interesting. Lots of great interaction between Alex and his girls, with Henry, and with himself as he wrestles with internal turmoil to navigate the situation. A really intriguing story!

@suseagull5914: This is the absolute cutest high school AU! It's their emails, but the high school version, a 5+1 that will give you all the feels because of how much they care about each other in this oneshot.

Break Out by @cricketnationrise (book-verse)

@porcelainmortal: I waited to start this wip (now complete) because I am so not a hockey girl in any way, shape, or form. Turns out that doesn't matter because this fic is so brilliantly written! The hockey is there, but the technical aspects aren't overwhelming and the focus is on the characters. A lot of the OCs are interesting and fun, but naturally, Alex and Henry are the center of everything. This story has absolutely gripped me and I can't wait for the last two chapters almost as much as I wish there was even more of it left.

“Some people look at horses like Jasper and think they’re hard to handle, that they won’t listen,” Henry says. “But they’re the ones who aren’t listening. Those horses, they’re not acting out for no reason, and they’ll tell you if you bother paying attention.” He runs a hand down Jasper’s flank. “I just listened to what he was saying.” Alex doesn’t respond immediately, and when Henry looks over he finds Alex staring up at him with a hard to read look on his face, the brush in his hand all but forgotten.“How are you even real?” Henry frowns. “What?” “Nothing,” Alex says with a soft huff as he shakes his head. He lifts the brush and smooths it over Jasper’s withers. “You’re right, by the way. The people I bought him from told me he would never be a rodeo horse. Too energetic, too unfocused. Too anxious. But that’s what they said about me, too.” He delivers this statement without inflection, almost as an aside, and Henry would very much like to know more—who they were, and how they could be so wrong—but Alex forges on without leaving even the smallest pause. “Most people don’t understand him. I’ll admit, I was curious how you would do.” Fine. If they’re going to pretend they’re still talking about Jasper, Henry can play that game. “So it was a test,” he says, letting one corner of his mouth tug upward. Alex grins back at him. “More or less.” “Did I pass?” “Top scores on horsemanship and communication. Points deducted for your stiff-ass seat and torturing me with these ridiculous breeches all day,” Alex says. He hooks a finger in one of Henry’s belt loops and gives a little tug, pulling them somehow closer together. He’s staring at Henry’s mouth when he murmurs, “But yeah, you passed.”

WIP Wednesday

WHAT, I know. Me? Wild. Thanking @theprinceandagcd for the tag this week (and to all the others who have tagged me in the last few months, thank you, thank you!)

Taking the moments of writing where I can, and working on whatever inspires me at the time. More rough draft words from the timetravel/immortal firstprince AU, anyone? (Alex is a time traveler, and Henry is the person who makes sure he is outfitted with the time-appropriate clothing, among other things.)

Pompeii is a shitshow. Literally and figuratively. Alex learns in real time that his ancient Italian knowledge falls apart when he's having a full-blown panic attack while Vesuvius is on the precipice of desolating an entire city.  "You need to be more careful," Henry says, thumbing soot from Alex's cheeks. His adrenaline is still running high, the crash inevitable. But Alex can't stop talking. He tries to express the sheer amount of ash in the air to Henry over the two-day-long eruption. Alex coughs, he's been coughing, he can't stop coughing, and Henry frowns. The kind of frown that Alex discovers means many things: he's upset, he's unhappy, he's concerned as fuck and he's trying not to let it get in the way of their strictly working relationship. "I ruined all your hard work," Alex says, gesturing to the linen garment as a distraction technique. He hopes.  "I do not care about the bloody tunic, Alex."

Sunday Sentences - intro to Dragon Alex

okay kiddies so we're bringing dragon alex out to the world - even though he's got lots of writing left to happen - it's gonna be a crazy, possibly crack-y in spots, smutty, and also sweet fairytale

so far it's been lots of plotting and off the wall conversations and an outline is almost done and i've got a chunk of illustrations in progress cuz what fairytale is complete without illustrations) but we'll be getting to more writing soon so i guess we're bringing him out here so i can ramble at all of you about him too lolz

so have some bits of some of those illustrations and some words form what is written

In a far away kingdom, there lives a dragon named Alex, he is the most beautiful bronze dragon in all the land. Which is saying something when he lives in a land where emerald forests abound and the rivers glitter like molten silver, and the dragons are all just as beautiful. Alex’s scales are a thing he is especially proud of; they gleam as if freshly polished always, and ripple as they catch the sunlight when he soars through the sky. He’s admired by all for his beauty, even the humans of the surrounding kingdoms, but only from afar, up close is a different story.  To Alex’s dismay, so few people ever see past the scary dragon that they think he is. He hears the whispers and sees eyes darting to the mountains where his lair is every time he takes his human form and visits the cities and towns. The stories he hears them tell are of terror and a beast with talons and fire, even though Alex can’t remember the last time he used his fire outside his lair. He finds it quite useful when he’s looking to forge new walls or tunnels in his mountains. He never corrects their tales, finding it easier to let them tremble at the thought of him. He’s often heard the only safe dragon might just be a feared one, so at least our dragon has that going for him. Until, one day, when he’s out gliding over his favorite meadow, the dragon stumbles upon a prince with flaxen hair and the most beautiful features. He stands amongst the wildflowers, and though they usually are the most beautiful thing Alex has seen, today they have competition. Alex can tell the man is a prince, by his fine tunic and the kind of features that are so finely sculpted, as if by an artist, that they can only come from royal blood.

It’s only after their eyes lock that Henry speaks. “I want you. I don’t know if I’ve lived a moment of this life not wanting you, Alex.”

Watching Over Me

by suseagull5914 They were decorating the brownstone for Christmas on December 23rd. How that had happened, Henry honestly wasn't entirely certain. He had opted out of the traditional Christmas festivities, yes, but that didn't mean that he and Alex weren't busy. After all, he and Pez had the shelter to run, a task that was more cumbersome (but worth every bit of payoff in the end) around the holidays. Plus, Alex had his studies. The semester might be over, but a lawyer's work, as Alex was always telling Henry when he tried coaxing him to bed at increasingly alarming hours of the night, was never complete. Henry's mum would be arriving at any moment, and they hadn't even gotten out the Christmas tree yet. Or: During their first Christmas in the brownstone, Catherine gives them a gift Henry will cherish forever. 8. What fic meant the most to you to write?

and i'd give up forever to touch you, my angel!henry series...i wrote it during a pretty dark period of my life and it was incredibly healing for me personally to work through my own feelings of existential dread and loss of purpose and loneliness and guilt. some of the scenes in the fics are pretty directly lifted from my own life (a common thing for me jafsldjflkasdf) and it just meant so much to me that this duology resonated with people <3 it made me feel so seen and accepted and i really needed that.

Alex furrows a brow. “Why?” 

“He has a tendency to cry afterward and you’ll have to cuddle him until he eventually falls asleep.” 

“What?” Alex chokes, glancing back across the bar. “That guy?” 

Henry smiles at him. 

“Careful judging a book by its cover, Alex.” 

Blowing out a breath, he collapses back against the booth again, eyeing his mysterious new friend. “How do you know all of this stuff anyway?” 

Henry takes the straw between his teeth once more. 

“I’ve fucked all of them.” 

Narrowly schooling his reaction, Alex bites his lip. With the way Henry looks in here, Alex had no doubts that the man had his pick of anyone he wanted. But. Damn. 

Alex wonders what it’s like, to be wanted like that.

@na-dineee: Remember when this fic was being posted as a WIP and so many of us (myself very much included) nearly lost it?! The hurt, the angst, the years of longing—Henry and Alex so perfect for each other, yet always missing the mark. I read it for the second time now, and it was another wild ride. I shed quite a few tears (and got emotionally shredded into tiny pieces nbd), and in my humble opinion, this is a true fandom masterpiece!

@na-dineee: This fic can be summed up in one word: BAM !! Alex and Henry know each other casually from class, but then they meet at a college New Year’s party and their midnight kiss turns deliciously smutty. From there, everything just falls perfectly into place—in a fast-paced, clever, heartfelt, and wonderfully smutty way. An absolute joy to read. 10/10, no notes, would totally recommend!

Down By The Water, I Saw You by @myheartalivewrites (book-verse)

@na-dineee: Is it fate or coincidence? Who knows—but one unexpected encounter throws Alex and Henry’s lives completely off track. A decade after meeting on holiday and being torn apart, they find themselves face to face again in the Scottish Highlands. This fic is perfection—great pacing, a stunning setting, and the perfect blend of tension, fluff, and smut. Plus, it has one of the best epilogues I’ve ever read. I've revisited it multiple times and will definitely read it again.

sea of endless hope by acastle (book-verse)

@suseagull5914: This fic, the sequel to a flicker, a spark, has just as much heart as the original and is so beautiful! You see little moments in the lives of Alex, Henry and Nena that, while only loosely connected at first, all culminate in a beautiful conclusion. The topics this fic touches on are some of my favorites in post-canon firstprince fics too!

@suseagull5914: Want a happy ending, but not in the mood for pure fluff? Look no further. Not only is this verse so creative, containing sci-fi vibes that you don't see in a lot of fics, but the tone of it is so beautifully written.

The Tooth Fairy Agenda by @kj-bee (book-verse)

@suseagull5914: The author's imagination and world building really shine in this fic that'll have you grinning from ear to ear! Alex meets the Tooth Fairy the very first time he loses a tooth and through him, Henry, years later. While firstprince is adorable in this fic, it's Alex's relationship with the Tooth Fairy he met as a kid that's really the highlight of the fic, which is a nice change of pace from firstprince-centric fics!

Treehouses, Emails and Making It Right by @itsmaybitheway (book-verse)

@suseagull5914: This fic explores what would've happened if Alex and Henry became friends before Rio, and it's absolutely adorable! All of the relationships in it are so well developed, especially between the White House Trio!

@dot524: This is one of my all-time favorite comfort-read fics. I love the way it’s told, with flashbacks and hints as the story unfolds, along with lyrics and snatches of social media conversation. It has the feel of a masterpiece and you can tell the author was really thoughtful with how to share this story. In it, Alex is a songwriter/songwriter and Henry is an actor, and they struggle with understanding themselves and keeping their relationship a secret. I love their process of getting to know each other and their fight against the world and for each other. Alex’s songs are so unique and fitting, and they tell the story too. Just a wonderful journey of a fic.

@suseagull5914: Magic and Henry's passion for reading collide in this fic that will have you hooked, guessing what's going on from start to finish! It's so suspenseful, and the author clearly put so much thought into the world-building aspect of it because it shows. A must-read for book and magic lovers alike!

@suseagull5914: I absolutely love one of the tropes in this fic! Alex and Henry go on a blind date that doesn't go well, and later end up on the same ski trip. Among other things I'm not going to spoil, I absolutely love how Nora is such a mastermind in this fic!

@suseagull5914: I'm really picky about friends to lovers, but I absolutely loved watching the boys become friends and then something more in this fic! How much the boys care about each other, especially Alex for Henry, is so pronounced in this fic, and I loved it!

@suseagull5914: A roommates AU and almost every even remotely sweet term of endearment you can think of, and parts that gave me chills mean that it doesn't have to be Valentine's Day for this fic to be a sweet read for everyone to enjoy!

@na-dineee: This hit me right in the feels! Single dad Alex is figuring out life after his daughter heads off to college, when Nora plays matchmaker with Henry — 12 years his junior. Out of practice and less than thrilled, he’s soon swept into something unexpectedly beautiful. This fic is packed with emotion, a pinch of vulnerability, and in the end, pure domestic bliss.

they say ‘you're a little much for me, you're a liability’ by @henrysfox (book-verse)

@taylor-27: This is such an angsty yet comforting fic. I had a real good cry. Basically, Alex and the super six are close friends and Henry is his roommate. It's all about Alex and his old insecurities being dredged up and how it sends him into a spiral and he has a breakdown about it. It's all about picking up those sharp pieces and putting it back together. Alex's state of mind is described beautifully! A must read!

Prof. A. Fox, Matchmaker by @smc-27 (book-verse)

@na-dineee: This fic may be short, but it’s three times as sweet. I was grinning the whole way through. Fics where Arthur is alive always feel special to me, and this one does it so well—Arthur is just the right amount of unhinged and deranged in his matchmaking attempts, leaving Henry slightly flustered and annoyed… and yet Alex still falls for him in no time. Because of course he does !!

Bright Blue Sky by @absoluteaudacitywrites (book-verse)

@na-dineee: Here comes the ultimate FirstPrince post-canon established-relationship fluff—packed with domesticity and pure marital bliss. Alex and Henry as twin dads, going all out to make their boys’ birthday perfect? This is a chef’s kiss masterpiece: sweet, wholesome, and utterly heart-melting.
