Don't mind me. Just getting ahead of the curve of the Rayman sushi cow art trend that's clearly gonna happen lol.

【PREFACE: I was thinking about genderbent Ray while writing this.】

There was this correlation between Ray and Belle (sushi cow) that I wasn’t able to fully articulate properly, but now I can!

At first, looking into it with an Asian point of view, I thought, “Well, they’re pretty standard for big siblings (honorific; it’s a direct translation but can mean anyone), right?”. Belle really elicits that big sister vibe and Ray, though supposedly meant to be big sister, undoubtedly gives a big brother type of feeling. My heart was happy for a moment, but there was still a lingering feeling of uncontent…

It wasn’t until I was searching up Asian stereotypes in America (for my thesis on why I think Ray is Asian) that I was able to fully realise what I had been searching for! Ray was percieved as the Lotus Blossom stereotype and Belle feels like a mere parody off of the Dragon Lady stereotype. Funnily, those stereotypes were popular in the 1900s to Early 2000s, whilst Captain Laserhawk is set in 1992.

For those unaware, a Lotus Blossom is an obedient, cutesy, docile, eager-to-please Asian, who was saved by a white saviour, and thus is willing to do anything for them but is overall disposable. In some cases, they are willing to kill themselves for the sake of America. To quote a movie which has the Lotus Blossom stereotype, “I can get 10 of you in 2 minutes!”.

In this case, you can replace America with Eden. So when Ray breaks the perception of the Lotus Blossom stereotype and stops being docile, what happens? Disposal and replacement. Because they “can find another one anyways”.

Meanwhile, the Dragon Lady is a promiscuous, mysterious, exotic Asian who has agency over her sexuality. Sometimes portrayed as angry and aggressive and thus is killed for a “happy ending”. There really isn’t much to say because she appeared for 7 seconds with one pose and no dialogue, but I guess that just adds to the mysterious feeling ahaha (ヽ´ω`)

Can I say I dislike what they did with rayman in the Netflix show? They literally turned Mr French Mario into a foul mouthed edgy anti hero, they even changed his iconic name into “Ramon”. Thats incredibly lame and something right out of an edgy tween fanfic. Not to mention the other Ubisoft characters that were treated like shit. I get the director wanted to represent his experiences as an immigrant. But he could’ve used wholly original characters instead! BTW what are your thoughts?

It's funny cause Rabbids as a series does have a lot of problems, whether it be the earlier games having racial caricature costumes or the half-assed making of them prior to Rabbids Go Home, but YouTubers constantly act like the fictional characters themselves brought Rayman to an alley and shot him cause Rayman 4 never released. Same YouTubers almost never talk about the Sparks of Hope DLC neither, despite them recently starting to make jokes about the Laserhawk rendition. At this point, it feels forced.

ive seen a handful of night court episodes falling under the category "very special episode for Dan the bigot" where Dan meets a marginalized person and learns that he shouldn't be such a dick to them:

Given the time this show was on, I guess it was progressive for even breaching the topic? Not that it offsets the amount of jokes the show makes at the expense of sex workers, homeless people, gay people, Asians, the list goes on
