Day 125 - Peaceful & Peeved

Such a nice round even number for today, even if it's more than I want and also rounded up. Work was extremely slow today and I am extremely grateful for that. Managed to calm down a lot about my anxieties in general. Got peeved toward the end of the the day though when my grandmother apparently got bored and started making demands. At least she has a new nurse now.

Writing for today:

Played a tiny bit of Helldivers 2, but honestly I'm burnt out on it for now. Only played a tiny bit of Kenshi as well, so not much gameplay at all this evening. I don't feel frustrated about it though, the evening was peaceful and I didn't do too much doomscrolling.

Most of the leisure time was spent rewatching the Swampletics series on youtube. Always a chill time. Definitely want to push further into Kenshi tomorrow though. Hopefully work will continue to be slow as well.

I think the greasy food I've started eating again is affecting me. I'm starting to cough for no apparent reason and I felt awful waking up this morning. I have to get better, I can't let my grandmother drag me back down into the pit.

Today I woke up on time and felt rough. I managed to get over it with a long walk and a bunch of caffeine though. Hopefully tomorrow morning is smoother. Overall, today felt okay.

I actually already read this and Words of Radiance a couple years ago before I started my job, but I decided to reread them and actually finish the series this time since it's been too long since I actually sat down and read a book.

Currently watching: I'm watching Settled's 12 hour Old School Runescape Swampletics video again (I think this is the third time? The man's a very good storyteller what can I say)

Currently craving: Honestly probably some tiramisu. I want something sweet but I feel like some good tiramisu would really hit the spot.

Coffee or tea: I've always preferred tea but sometimes a cup of black coffee hits the spot first thing in the morning

definitely agree about nightmare mode (and tileman before that honestly). He's good at coming up with complex and strategy-heavy challenges for himself, but they don't usually fit the youtube format super well--swampletics was basically the sweet spot and idk if anything has rivaled it since then.

I think solo has always been the most willing to "get revenge" on people who try to come after him, which is fun for the drama but also makes people wary of going after him at all... I don't think his name has even come up in tribunal yet? maybe settled mentioned once why he's not a target yet? but yeah I guess they've mainly been going with "safe" targets which is less exciting

very interested to see if the farmers try to make moves in the next eps :3

I am very pro-settled and anti-solo but omg the instant settled loses he’s gonna be everyone’s target lmao. You gotta give solo credit for making things interesting at least but you absolutely can’t trust him. Ironically I think that makes everyone feel safe keeping him on because he’s unlikely to have any strong allies by the end

lol i wouldn't say I'm pro- or anti- anyone except in the sense that i tend to root against whoever's dominating a lot (so was not really in favor of solomission in past seasons) and rooting "against" settled now as he is absurdly dominating the season thus far and i also find him a little... overrated? overly beloved? not like i'm saying he's not a good player, because he's a very strong player. and not that he doesn't make good content either, he's very good at it. But I think i just tire of his style a bit quickly, he knows how to milk things SO well, which like, power to him, but I went from thinking the nightmare mode series was the coolest challenge anyone ever came up with to rolling my eyes at the videos because it's somehow even more boring than typical low level ironman content but he's hyping every random tiny step like it's unprecedented ('i've survived ONE HUNDRED HOURS!!!! Can you believe I've survived ONE HUNDRED TEN HOURS???") again, yes, it's a hard challenge, and a cool concept, and I recognize that presenting it in such a way and splitting it up into shorter videos and hyping small milestones is a good way for him to get views and thus income. but... that + also some of the general "swamp man can do no wrong" obsession in the community (which to be fair has cooled down a bit, it was kind of crazy in 2019-2020 though) just made me feel like... okay enough already lmao

that being said, he is very good at making the games interesting to watch both by being a strong competitor who frequently has unique strategies, and also because he knows how to play up drama a bit. which this episode really showed well. so even if i'm rooting "against" him it's just in the sense that... you want someone to root against for "plot" sake :)

solo tho feels almost like an "underdog" this season which I know is ridiculous, he isn't really... but compared to his previous status lmao. but I think this season's format + his past performance puts him in a strange (maybe safe?) place: he doesn't have the same power of manipulating votes, but also everyone knows he doesn't have that same power so he's not as much of an immediate threat. he's a strong player so people want him out for sure, but also no one wants to make an enemy of him. it's funny because it makes sense that people are tentative thus far, getting used to the new format, and it is understandable to not want a target on your back from someone surviving a banning, but also -- solomission is really strong, but he's not invincible. If he had been put in the banning the past 3 weeks... (or 2 times at least? I cant remember if he was on the winning team for the moneymaker or not lol unimportant) every time he's in there, there's a chance he slips up, yknow? less incentive to do it in early weeks where there's still a high chance he could pick one of the weaker players and win easily, but already the playing field is starting to look like there's less "easy victory" options, and even if he wins and gets a sabotage, he can't sabotage the whole tribunal, yknow? so in a way people backing off of strong players might give them more power in the long run, versus just chucking them in any bannings possible to hope they get knocked out.

I'm very intrigued by all the various bits of "drama" set up by this episode ending though and I hope that people lean into it and start making more aggressive moves rather than everyone being super careful... because it's fun to watch :) boaty doesn't seem like the type to ally with anyone but if he's going after settled... and we know that settled wants solo to stay in, but also just pissed solo off, so it'll be interesting if solo goes for undermining settled or trying to ally with him, and then the question of if the farmers will take any sort of action together (doesn't look like they've done it thus far, but also won't screw each other over... except for faux, lmao, and i wonder when the others will realize that)... settled also has sorta-allies in the form of framed and victim but I think victim would not hesitate to flip on settled if he saw a move to get ahead, framed I'm less sure on. i just wanna see more vendettas lol
