(at least, not their 1.0 versions. Their subsequent clones/Korin's Imp counterpart... well, they're stuck. =P)

Also, this might be my new favourite ride in the game now not counting Theron! (Although the Kai Zykken log mount, in all its ridiculous glory, is still up there!) Poor Theron's about to develop even more grey hair from Xaja's piloting...

Fluffy February Day 8 -- Trust

“I’m fine.”

He always said that.  And Eva knew he was full of it.

She trotted up next to him in the entryway that led out of the Shrine of Healing.  “Theron, you’ve got the upper half of your implants hanging out of your head.  We might have saved Voss, but it cost you something.”

Theron shook his head at her, wincing the entire time.  “It can wait til we get back to Odessen.  I can still log reports and use the Holo-Net.  Dr. Daashi needs as much intel as she can get about Senya’s situation.”  Theron motioned with his hands as they stepped out into the sun, whose light seemed even more yellow than usual.  “Reminds me of Jedi healing.  It taps the Force energy of the healer…but I’ve never seen a Jedi go that far.”  He clenched his jaw.  “Detox implants offline, mapping offline, targeting offline – glad I don’t have to try to shoot anything else today.  But critical operations are still -- ”

“Relieved of duty for the rest of the day,” Eva neatly cut him off.  “Bowie is hiding Virtue’s Thief around the back of the moon – saw Acina’s fleet and didn’t know how it was going to pan out.  I can call him down, Guss can prep medbay, and I can fix you.  Without an audience,” Eva added, pointedly. 

Theron stiffly walked across the stones of the Shrine of Healing, the adrenaline fading.  The heat rose upward as the sun reached its apex and the scorched earth smoldered after the razing.

“The alternative is me patching you up in front of a bunch of Mandalorians, with Lana calling out constructive criticism from the pilot’s seat.”  Eva kept her eyes on him, even as they carefully tread through the piles of rubble that now punctuated the holy ground.  She tugged open her tac jacket for ventilation. 

Theron still resolutely didn’t answer her; he was probably already filing flimsi-work in his head.

Eva decided to press the issue.  “The Mandos – they’re probably going to think we’re cuuu-uuute.  They who shoot together, stay together.  I think Akaavi said that to me once.  Patching each other up after combat – very intimate.”

That word brought Theron out of his work.  He looked at Eva.  He kept his face a carefully trained SIS blank.

“But I’m sure we can trust the Mandos.  Torian knows, and he hasn’t said anything.  I’m sure another 20 or 30 won’t mind.”

Theron’s professionalism won out.  “Fine.  Explanation for why I’m on the Thief?”

“I left my slice kit in my quarters.”

“You always carry it.”

“They don’t know that.”

“Assume they do.”

“Have you already arranged for a special medical carrier for Senya?” Eva pulled up the cuff of her shirt sleeve to consult her wrist comm.  “If not, the most expedient way to get her off planet and back to Odessen is to billet her on the Thief.  We could even put her in the kolto tank if you think it’ll help.”

Theron cringed again as he shook his head – that hurt.  “No.  The type of …wound she has.  It’s … Force-related.  Spiritual, in a way.”  Eva saw his hand start to go up toward the side of his head, but he stopped himself.  “She’ll be stable in a bed.”

“Good.  That frees up the kolto tank for you , in case you need it,” Eva breezily said. 

Theron sighed.  “You do realize I absolutely trust you, right?  This isn’t -- ”  He wordlessly gestured at the matter between them. 

“You do realize you are the worst patient, because the galaxy is at risk.”  Eva gave him a small smile.  “I’ll never cure you of being a workaholic.  But I can at least make sure all your parts are still attached.”  Eva’s eyes darted up toward Theron’s implants.  “And that’s questionable right now.  Let’s get moving.  Send the Voss a note to levitate Senya to the spaceport – or whatever’s left of it.  I’ll tell Bowie to land sort of nearby.” 

Theron gave her a casual salute with his right hand and got to work on the Voss end of things while Eva hailed Bowdaar to bring Virtue’s Thief around and to prepare for fragile cargo.

1. How did your OC develop their closest friendship? What brought them and their closest friend together? What was their journey?

Now lets divide this because of diferrence of Shield of The Republic Verse and the SWTOR main stories one are quite diffrent Shield of the Republic: He doesn't have best friend. Not anymore. Hei Lang and Kamzo, the other two who was founders of the organisation, both died. There is bigger drama to it. Hei Land and Kamzo as lovers, Hei pregnat but stabbed by sith, losing baby, patch of revange, Kamzo trying overthron the Senate and make a second Empire focused on military to destroy Empire. Sall fighting Kamzo to prevent this ect... Sall become more like father figure to lots of organisation members, caled even papa by younglings that was saved during Zakuul wars and leting part of the HQ as temproary Jedi Temple before Alliance was formed.

(But i bet in Alliance Sall would be a bff with Talos over artifacts, Archeology buddies)

2. If there was any advice your OC could give to their younger self, what would it be?

Think 10 time before accept the offer.

3. When your OC gets homesick- what place do they think of? What does ‘home’ mean to them, if they have one at all? If there isn’t one, do they wish they had one and what kind of place would they want home to be? Do they have conflicting feelings about ‘home?’

Sall was born on Alderaan, so the plants, and nature always was part of him, in temple on smaller planet was outdor kid, never liked to sit inside. Thats the person whou will bring another plant hope and i not kidding you whole Shield of the Republic HQ have some kide plants all over the place, even at Armory they found place for it. Eee ughh....my questions? 1. Concept of Death, whats relationship your OC have wit it? They are scared? At peace? Seeking? 2. How thier day off looks like? Embecing hobby or just confused what to do with the time in hand? 3. Does your OC have any sickness? If yes how deal with it?

haha, decided to try un- and reinstalling Avowed to see if it would work better, now there's a failed update sitting in my queue bc the Day 1 patch was 66gb and I don't have that much free space.🙃

That's right. The 69 GB game has a 66 GB DAY ONE patch. I'm thinking maybe they should have bumped launch like a week? Bugtested a little more? If the day one patch is almost the size of the game? I know BG3 had a real hefty one, but that wasn't day 1 iirc, AND they said uninstall/reinstall would give you the patched version.

....might have to take SWTOR off the desktop temporarily(?) to get this update installed, and getting a second ssd in this thing is suddenly much higher priority. >.>

SWTOR.

So. About that news about SWTOR, that it is slated to be transferred to another company - yeah. Let's chat about that. Or I will.  TL:DR version: The licensing agreement for SWTOR was set to expire this year. My own hypothesis is that the Mouse did not renew it and pulled the license from Bioware because they did fuckall with it. Also Bioware has been fumbling a lot of their other games. So this isn't quite a sunny transfer.

My final screenshot of Viri and Lana at home in Naboo (headcanon for the Alderaan stronghold), February 2022, just before uninstalling SWTOR. One thing I have not seen mentioned is the fact that SWTOR's licensing agreement with the Mouse was scheduled to end this year anyway. 2023. It's been said for some time. Is it really a surprise the Mouse would not want things to go on as they are?

Given the near complete lack of attention and care that has been paid to SWTOR for a good five or six years now, I can fully understand why the Mouse would not renew the licensing agreement. Onslaught and Ossus looked as though a fair amount of development money had been poured into them - Ossus, Onderon and Mek-Sha had the same sort of acheivements and datacron hunts you found on the OG planets - but they were bright spots in a very bleak period. 

The amount of content released in a single patch of some other MMOs is more than the collective total of what was released for SWTOR in years. 

The story was haphazard. The companion reunions had no continuity, with some characters not even recognizing NPCs they'd actually worked with before (Nadia Grell and Jaesa Willsaam not recognizing Lana, for instance) or behaving completely out of character (Risha being completely indifferent about the fate of her planet, for instance). The writers killed off almost every character that moved and pulled a "somehow, the Emperor survived" stunt (not with the Emperor). The head writer did not even know a timeline for the story and had to talk it out on the message board. 

The devs tried hard to shove everyone into PvP (both ground and space) and Ops, while alienating other types of players, and made story content ridiculous. Known game-breaking bugs remained in the game for years. 

There's been a lot of turnover in the dev team and numerous reports about management completely ignoring feedback from devs. A few devs were witnessed mocking players on dudebro discords, and the changes they made seemed to benefit a select group of players. A few message board posters were plants trying to deliberately provoke players into inflammatory exchanges or white knighting any and message critical of the devs. Or that criticism was removed outright. 

Players who had invested a substantial amount of time and money into SWTOR and put a lot of effort into developing player guides and fan sites said "fuck this" and walked. The Steam charts show playership of about 3000K players per day. People stopped going to the test server because it became painfully obvious that the devs were completely ignoring most feedback. Problems and bugs test players pointed out made their way into the released patches anyway. 

Meanwhile the staff of SWTOR was getting poached for Anthem and Dragon Age. Anthem failed. Battlefront II went into maintenance after only two years. The next installments of Dragon Age and Mass Effect were proving to be complete clusterfucks. 

Is there really any reason the Mouse would have wanted to keep the license with Bioware? 

I do think this is a way to get SWTOR into a safe place - away from Bioware - but given the profile of the new company, I doubt it means we're going to see a Renaissance. I think it means the game is going to have a safe place to continue in maintenance mode. That's how it is with two other MMOs they have. The number of devs, as someone pointed out, is going to be 50% of what SWTOR has now. 

I do think they will keep it in maintenance mode as long as they can; as long as enough people keep subscribing to make that profitable. But I do think overall, this is it for SWTOR. 

I have not played SWTOR in a year and a half. I uninstalled it on the day 7.0 came out. My characters are all parked in their favorite strongholds with their favorite companions. I headcanon the game itself cut from Ossus directly to Echoes, with the scene at the end of Echoes, with Lana and the PC literally flying off into the stars being the end of the story. I feel it's better that way. Given all that was happening with SWTOR I feel like this was inevitable, too.  All the same, given the positives that SWTOR had - some of the gameplay and class stories, the rich lore, the planets, some of the characters - it leaves me bitterly angry and disappointed by the outcome. It's such a waste. An absolute waste of talent and time and people who were so totally invested in the success of this game. At the end, that's all there is.

Hey all! SWTOR 7.4 goes live (hopefully) sometime this month! I'll be taking a break from playing our Agent buddy Thorn and playing my gremlin of an Inquisitor, Saris that day!

Look forward to blind commentary and a possible feral Shimo over the date night cutscene with Arcann and Saris if we finally get em this patch! :'D

-some animation glitches on the first big cutscene, glowing where there shouldn’t be and clipping issues but honestly nothing too unusual for this game at this point. -Tau flirts!! i wonder if we’re going to get a full romance for her or if it’s just going to be a friend you flirt with kinda thing. -RIP to Bask. wonder if you take the dark side option during the duel does he live here? -flirting with theron in front lana continues to be funny. -i do find it funny that shae’s just allowed to wander the fleet. i mean good i just find it entertaining cause it always seemed like mandos weren’t allowed since they weren’t republic aligned. -malgus continues to be cryptic as always. -kara’s headband went away so we might have a smoochy with arcann?? -”in the years since vaylin’s attack”... man. how long has it been since kotet?? like what? 5 years? wiki says ossus took place 2 years after kotet so maybe 3? -my regret at not taking my arcannmancer version of kara through first is being overridden by the fact i’m taking screenshots of the convo to compare. it’s just day 1 of the patch i don’t need to rush it. -unvoiced kotor-style cutscene >:( -how maton-ja says “do not worry” makes me worry more sir -seems a little awkward having to do the side quest to progress the main quest but i get why they did it. just. probably would’ve made more sense to just make it a main quest?? -”they say the shrine of silence is cursed” and then the whole screen started shaking and i feel that wasn’t actually related but the timing was great. -i don’t know if i need to do the flashpoint to progress just yet but if i do that’ll happen after i eat dinner. -I honestly forgot how much i love the companion system in swtor. wow and xiv need this imo. the outfit tool too (but with wow collection system) -i know it’s a distant hope but man i still hope we see some of the voss from the class stories whenever we have to come out here. lokir!! i miss you!! -took a dinner break and back to checking out the story. first things first. i feel i shouldn’t be surprised czerka’s still being a pain -the scaning the water lines for clogs sucks man. -i don’t think we get the date nights in this patch do we?? -looks like the FP is not required to do the campaign! i am not complaining -”this honor is rare for my kind” weren’t these the same guys that gave me a hard time for ‘corrupting’ lokir? man it’s been so long since i played the smuggler chain. actually since i did any of the class stories. -all that and they gave me.... a table. thaaanks. -i think that’s it? i’m sure there’ll be mail so maybe i’ll pop on my arcannmancer and then do the fp. cause i’m kinda itching to see that cutscene on a romanced version  >:3

Fluffy February 2024 Master List

Huzzah! I wrote 29 things for Fluffy February (ok, 28 things plus one very fluffy chapter for my bigger fluffy fan fic).

Highlights: I developed my canon for both Lenn Teraan and Cole Cantarus. I wrote another Akaavi/Mako piece (someone needs to write them an epic Carbonite Years fic). I posted my most explicit work so far (is that a low light?). Dr. Oggurobb has decided to weigh in a lot lately.

Kiss -- 21 ATC -- Theron thinks about the his views on good morning kisses in the early days after Eva's return.

Rain -- 21 ATC -- Theron finds Eva out in the rain after Koth is worried about her. It's not as bad as it looks.

Protect -- 14 ATC -- Dr. Oggurobb meets the Voidhound on Makeb.

Shy -- 13 ATC -- Cole Cantarus becomes friends with benefits with Eva (she pays at the bar).

Fresh -- anytime after 23 ATC -- C2-N2 tries to start spring cleaning on Virtue's Thief. "Tries" is the operative word here.

thank you, that was helpful! knowing that the rpg part of ffxiv gets more emphasis and that it's relatively singleplayer-friendly is definitely a relief (the only other mmo I've really gotten into is swtor, which is basically just a bioware rpg in a shared online world if you ignore all the optional multiplayer/pvp stuff)

I do have a couple of follow-up questions, if you don't mind!

1) does having the complete vs. starter edition change anything about the start of the game? I had a bad experience previously with eso where I got a bundle with the first expansion during a sale, not realizing that would permanently lock off the option to start with the base game story and force me into starting with the expansion for some godforsaken reason, which pretty much killed dead my desire to actually get into that game lmao

2) how alt-friendly is it? I may have a bit of a problem with always coming up with ideas for new characters in rpgs

3) what's the female armor situation vis a vis boobplate and the like? know in advance that this WILL make or break my chances of playing the game

i don't mind at all, ask away!

no, there's no difference. the storyline of ff14 is well-beloved and critically acclaimed and they would like for everyone to experience it, so you have to go out of your way to miss any parts of it. there's options for people who want to, such as the story skips they sell in the online store, or manually skipping every cutscene, but it's something you would have to actively choose to do.

2. it's extremely alt friendly! most people i talk to in game have alt disease. the basic plan only allows 8 different characters per data center, but the standard plan allows 40. you are formally invited to go ham in character creation. (most people who don't have alt disease have fantasia disease, which is an item that allows you to completely remake your character if you want to. so either people have tons of alts, or they have one character that they constantly fantasia into their numerous alts. but they do all have alts)

3. the female armor situation is a little mixed. none of it is boobplate amounts of bad, to my knowledge, but there is a frequent complaint about things like 'gear that appears as pants on male characters magically turns into a skirt and thighhighs on a female character'. it's not so ubiquitous that it can't be avoided, especially with the glamour system that lets your gear take on the look of other clothing, but it is there and it's extremely annoying to encounter. that being said, this is something that has improved significantly since the earlier days, and the devs have actually commented on trying to do better. also in the past there were a lot of outfits that were genderlocked, but every patch they release updates to unlock some of them. i think there's very few genderlocked outfits remaining, actually. so i'll let you decide how you feel about that. if you're on the fence, i will also remind you that critically acclaimed mmorpg final fantasy xiv has an expanded free trial and that you can play through the entirety of a realm reborn and the award-winning heavensward expansion up to level 60 for free with no restrictions on playtime
