I really do have the awful habit of swerving dramatically out of my lane and talking about shit I have no business talking about. I don't even do a lot of research, or at least not as much research as I should. I'm genuinely a terrible person to emulate here. But as for like how it tends to happen.

I find everybody really interesting, and even if I don't like somebody then it's still interesting to have learned about a new kind of person. Over the internet especially is so much fun - everybody has at least one thing super interesting about them! Everybody has a unique trait or has had an experience totally unfamiliar to me. I also just really have an eclectic knowledge of a shitton of extremely useless stuff, I watch a lot of random-ass YouTube essays, all of it. Baby I got information even I don't care about for days lol.

Some of my characters are based lowkey off people I know. Sometimes they're based off me at different points in my lives, or the kind of person I used to think I was. I think most often they fit into a category of people I've met in my life - for example, for an OC I'm writing right now, she's based off this type of person I know. And in there I look for what I always liked about those people, what I always related to about those people, and how I always interacted with them. They're often kinds of people I don't even necessarily like. You never really want to do "well im writing [marginalized group] so I'll just make them [friend from marginalized group]", but for me once I meet and talk to enough people from that group kind of the experience and perspective that being in that group gives you emerges. The 'why' of the experience stands out, and you can go deep into that.

All that said, I look for the similarities instead of the differences. My MK stuff isn't about being a system (cuz not that.), it's about having a highly stigmatized mental illness, and somebody's relationship with their identity as a mentally ill person, which is something I can understand. Lots of my SW stuff was about...existential dread, lol. I do just know a fuckton of neurodivergent and trans and etc people. And I think we do just project - I'll interpret a character as having my experiences instead of another's, because I'm SUPER loose with characterizations lol. But yeah I'm just constantly talking to people about their experiences and if you do that enough then a bigger, more relatable experience emerges lol. Everybody knows that there's really only like five emotions.

That being said I made a joke in a recent Moon Knight fic about how baby Marc liked baby Steven at first just because he would wake up and his bed would randomly be made. And my sys friend was like "HOW did you know about chore ghost??". So. Lucky accident a lot of the time I think. Thanks for the Q though, I'm happy I succeed at this!

we grew up in the midwestern united states, and from the moment we saw our first storms, we were obsessed. for the longest time, we perused meteorology, wanting to go into the field of storm chasing. unfortunately, life had other plans for us. we developed GAD (general anxiety disorder) and a panic disorder, which surrounded itself around storms. in result, we are now deathly afraid of tornadoes. this doesn’t mean our interest in meteorology changed, only storm chasing. we started learning more about storms in 2023, when we got taught about soundings, models, and cloud types, and oh how far we’ve gotten. today, meteorology isnt’ an end goal of ours, but it certainly holds a special place in our heart, with ALL of us being knowledgeable in the subject.

median: a median system (also called midcontinuum) is a system where members are not as distinct or separate from each other. it can be considered being somewhere between multiple and singlet.

monoconscious: monoconscious refers to a system with only one consciousness. members do not have an individual consciousness, but instead share the collective consciousness. monoconscious systems may experience changes in fronting as a smooth transition rather than a sudden switch.

cyclotien: a cyclotien system is a system that periodically collapses into fragments, which are then shuffled and reformed into a new system. this pattern can be experienced by the entire system, certain subsystems, or individual headmates.

polyfaceted: polyfaceted is a system that has a complex structure with many layers and/or sisasystems and is primarily median. this mirrors polyfragmented, but is meant for median systems.

blurian: blurian refers to easier or complete memory sharing, having a lack of significant amnesic barriers. this term is usually paired with other terms to describe a system, and itself has no correlation to the identities within the given system.

SYNOPSIS.

- the morrow family are, by their own admission, a strange bunch. they wear their weirdness as a badge of honour, swift to call themselves out on their eccentricities before others get the chance to do so. taking away the satisfaction of an insult by insulting themselves first is their game plan -- but it hasn’t always come naturally, particularly to seymour. growing up, being a morrow was a cross to bear rather than something to be celebrated. his father was a renowned television host and parapsychologist, hosting a spate of his own shows where he investigated supposedly haunted buildings around the world, and his mother was a successful spiritualist medium in her own right. as a result of his parents professions, the morrow home was a pretty morbid place, full of supposedly haunted items and bizarre curios from their paranormal travels; regular seances were held; ghosts were treated as a casual part of life; weekends were often spent at cemeteries, trudging between moss and tombstones. it was an unconventional childhood, ghoulish in many ways, but it was also, for the most part, a happy one.

- the majority of seymour’s childhood was spent in his parents shop, the cabinet of curiosities, which, in forty-five years, has never once changed. it was his refuge, a place to go where he could be alone and surrounded by strange things that had the ability to make him feel less strange by comparison. school could be tough -- how couldn’t it be, with parents like his? -- and playground bullies had a field day with seymour.      (even now, there’s a tendency to expect mockery, to flinch if a hand is raised.   you never unlearn those things.)

- he inherited morrow’s cabinet of curiosities at twenty-five years old, after his father passed and his mother couldn’t bear to step inside the shop her late husband had cared so much for. he’s been its caretaker ever since -- and the caretaker of a freewheeling younger sister (wc to be written up at a later date!) who treats the shop as a playground and her brother as an amusement.  how stressed can i make seymour today? is a beloved game of hers. the answer is always too stressed.

- seymour’s world is, and has always been, very small. he’s never left claybourne, and rarely ventures beyond the door of his workplace. he leads a quiet existence, and it’s one that’s earned him a reputation in claybourne of eeriness and an air of mystery. he isn’t half as morbid as his shop and surname would make him seem; it takes time for him to trust people but, his heart, once snared, has no limits. when he cares for someone, it’s for life.

- his connection with maddison was a loose one, consisting of times where he’d wearily have to deal with her and gaggles of her friends in the cabinet of curiosities if they came in to mess around with the stock. he’d never admit it, but he was more intrigued than saddened by her disappearance. her death came as a dull shock, but, given that he barely knew her, the grief was short-lived.

IN SUMMARY, seymour is the owner of a curiosity shop in the lane’s, which he inherited from his parents after his father passed and his mother couldn’t face going back there. the shop specialises in antiques and collectables, as well as celebrating all things paranormal. he’s lived in claybourne for his entire life, and has a reputation of being mysterious and strange but is actually just a misunderstood soft child <3

CONNECTION IDEAS.

friendships - seymour has lived in claybourne for his entire life, so childhood/school friends, family friends, best friends, are all possibilities! he’s a reclusive person, but when he opens his heart up to someone, it’s for life.

exes - again, seymour has lived in claybourne his entire life so relationships could’ve definitely been a thing. he’d most likely have only dated one, maybe two, people in his entire life but his heart would’ve been fully in it. reasons for their break-up could be open to discussion.

crushes. seymour is very much a silently-pine-for-someone-and-pray-they-never-notice kind of person, so this one is definitely plausible. maybe it’s a regular patron at the cabinet of curiosities, or just someone he crosses paths with a lot! it could be a new crush, or one that’s gone on for ages, and could either be one-sided or reciprocated.

employees/volunteers. the cabinet of curiosities is a cluttered, understaffed disaster. it’s just seymour, really, who runs the whole place, plus his sister who occasionally breezes through when she can be bothered. he needs all the help he can get, so anyone willing to work there would be an absolute godsend. bonus points if they’re actually interested in the shop and its stock because if seymour finds anyone with a shared interest he WILL ramble for hours about antiques and all his fave ghost stories <3 <3

I know you mentioned that time passes faster in the Heaven realm than below, so would that make SY older than LBH or would he go with his age for the human world? Hi, @oliverslewty! Firstly, thank you so much for reading the Untold Tale! Secondly, this is not a huge spoiler that I need to keep secret, so I don’t mind answering any behind-the-scenes questions. I’m happy to answer!

To answer this question, it’s very important to keep in mind that TUT is a lovestory to SVSSS. My goal after reading the extra was to give Bing gē closure—his own Happy Ending. The premise is built around transmigrating a Shen Yuan that suits his “black-bellied” demon king nature.

It’s been mentioned in TUT that 1 day in the Heavenly Realm = 1 year in the Mortal Realm.

When it comes to how long it’s been since this older novelist version of Shen Yuan has transmigrated into PIDW post-Bingge vs Bingmei extra, I leave it to the readers’ interpretation. Just know it’ll have been awhile. Personally, I’d say he’s been at his residence in the Heavenly Realm for several months at the very least.

I say at least a couple of months because it’ll take time for Shen Yuan adjust to his new body, his surroundings, and experiment knowing his capabilities and limitations as Protagonist B in the Cultivation World.

Before he transmigrated, while I leave it up to interpretation for what I mean by making Shen Yuan a “middle-aged” uncle, I envision him in my head to be around 45 years old or at least somewhere near his mid-40s. That is Shen Yuan pre-transmigration. I wanted him to be mature and experienced, and successful in his own right in modern China (acquire enough eclectic knowledge) before bringing him to PIDW. This way, I think he can provide a huge source of wisdom to Bing gē during his ascension and during his reign while personifying LBH’s ideal man, and guide him down a better direction that is tailored for Bing gē himself and not for Bing mèi.

After his transmigration, while it’s up to interpretation, physically-speaking he’s in his 20s or 30s. His soul is SY pre-transmigration—aka a man in his forties. In his celestial form (see the cover art) and his mortal form, he’ll physically appear as an handsome, distinguished scholar in his 20s-30s à la his 【PROTAGONIST HALO】 effect.

Both LBH and SY will appear at the prime of their age (especially since I can have NPCs people potentially criticize LBH for being a “young emperor”, and have both SY and LBH brainstorm over how to fix LBH’s public image), but deep down inside SY will be the older party.

To add onto this, since SY has been in the Heavenly Realm for several months at least, and 1 day in the Heavenly Realm = 1 year in the Mortal Realm, “Shen Yuan” has been “awakened” for at least a good few years centuries in Mortal Realm logistics. His “character’s existence” has also been retconned by the System into having existed in PIDW for quite awhile (I’ll elaborate in a future chapter(s)).

This is an additional small spoiler except to a few readers, but once Shen Jiu is resurrected, the running gag will be that Shen Yuan and Shen Jiu cannot see the resemblance. Everyone else will though, which is part of the humor.

Briony becomes friends with Lily-Rose Beauty, much to their parents' chagrin. Her roommate is Freya Hood.

Briony has medium-length blonde hair and green eyes. She has pale skin but not quiet the "skin as white as snow" from her mother's legacy. She wears glasses to correct her poor eyesight. She is short. Briony has an eclectic style and constantly experiments with clothing. She is especially fond of overalls and rompers. She wears heels (usually gifted to her by her godmother, Ashlynn Ella, to supplement her short stature.

Briony inherited almost nothing from her mother, save for her blonde hair, nearsightedness, and love for apples. She views herself as a free spirit since she does not have a legacy to choose. She is not fond of animals in the slightest due to her many allergies. She often says the wrong thing and has little of her mother's grace and poise.
