Can you do Companions react to Sole ending up being a synth[pretty please include Dez and maybe stinky Maxson- oh and before and after Blind Betrayal stuff too]
Companions React: Sole being a synth!
Cait:
Out of all things Sole could have found out about themself, being a synth wasn't one Cait expected
She really has no clue how to go about this situation, it's not like she's knowingly met many synths in the past
Lets Sole talk it through and tries to follow their lead on whether they need a bit of sympathy or a distraction of some sort
Then she tries to not bring it up too much, she can only assume it's a sore spot for them
Tries (unsuccessfully) at empathizing with them, telling them about her own experiences in a synth body
Curie:
Except Sole was never a Miss Nanny who got put into a synth body, so it doesn't quite translate the same
She's trying her hardest to be comforting though!
It might just help Sole a bit, seeing Curie's excitement for the world and how grateful she is to be a synth
She's a reminder that the world isn't all bad, being a synth isn't a death sentence, and life continues regardless.
Codsworth:
He... might need some time to take this all in
His master's been replaced by a synth? Sure, he still loves and cares for Sole, but... technically he's programmed to only serve the original Sole. Identity fraud is a breach of his warrenty.
On the other hand... dissociation time!!
Haha you're so silly Sole, pretending you were killed and replaced by a new version of yourself. You'll always be my original master :)
Don't push him too hard on it, he might start crying again
Danse (Before BB):
Sole's way of breaking the news, as well as the situation and environment, will change whether Danse keeps them hostage for information or shoots them on sight
In the airport or on the Prydwen? He's holding a gun to their head and taking them in for study. Both because he feels safer to do so and because he doesn't want to deal with having to explain why he just shot a fellow soldier for no visible reason
Anywhere else, or if Sole's just a bit too dangerous? They're getting shot. In the head - he's too soft to bring himself to draw it out or torture them for information
It really fucks with him, though. The idea that someone he trusted could be a synth, and that he just let them on the Prydwen without a second thought...
He's making sure the Brotherhood and the police station raises their security. He'll try to research the "warning signs" and educate the other soldiers. He really, really wouldn't want a second synth infiltrating the Brotherhood...
Danse (After BB):
"Why didn't you tell me?"
He's got a lot of trauma with the whole synth thing man, Sole might have to be the one comforting him here
He can't get the thought of Sole being killed out if his mind - and the horrifying realization that he would have been the one to do so if he were still working for the Brotherhood
This might make him pull away for a while, both for fear of himself and a need to reassess his ideals
He'll come back, though. Sole was there for him so he'll be damned if he's not there for Sole
Deacon:
"Oh. Cool."
Internally freaking the fuck out.
What do you MEAN he didn't notice??? How did he not figure it out??? When did that happen??? Was it in the vault??? After they met??? Did the Institute replace Sole, and now they have human Sole and all their memories of HQ just ready to be tortured for information???
On the outside he's as cool as a cucumber though. He's helped synths through these kinds of situations a million times before. He's good at comforting them through the waves of emotions they might feel.
Long-term he might just forget about it entirely. The only synths he actually has to remember are the ones the Railroad's actively helping - otherwise making a big fuss of "human vs synth" only causes problems
Desdemona:
"Okay."
She doesn't give a shit. Half her employees are synths. Come on!
Mildly surprised that this major piece of information got past Deacon, though
Especially given how Deacon was stalking Sole, and knowing their past in vault 111... she's curious when exactly Sole got turned into a synth
And maybe, deep down, worried that the human Sole is still being tortured in the Institute.
She doesn't let that idea linger, though. She knows better than to humor those thoughts.
Gage:
I feel like Nuka World is kinda disconnected from all of the issues regarding the Institute and whatnot
Like I'm sure they get told all the time about synths and destruction of settlements and whatnot, but from that far away it all just kind of feels like a spooky story
So he's not really sure what Sole being a synth fully entails
He'll let Sole explain it of they want, maybe entertains the idea of them potentially being a spy for a bit, but quickly gets over it and just kind of moves on
If they're a good overboss that's all that really matters. That tiny bit of plastic in their brain can't possibly change THAT much about them, right?
Hancock:
"You're not like... working for them, right?"
He's direct about his worries. Once Sole insists that they had no idea Hancock calms down quite a bit
His first priority is always the safety of his city. If Sole's not a threat to Goodneighbor then Hancock's not a threat to them
After that's dealt with he'll let Sole take the reigns on whether they want to talk about it and if they need some comfort
He realizes it must be hard on them, and he makes sure they know they're allowed to grieve the person they thought they were. It's rough, but he's confident Sole can pull through
Maccready:
He's quite blindsighted by it!
Like holy shit how did he not realize? Were there any signs? How long has Sole known for?
Of course then comes the realization that Sole's life - their pre-war life, their family, Shaun, all of it - might be all made up
He realizes just how horrible that must be, not only to lose everyone you love but then find out they might not be real at all
If his first reaction is shock or accusations he'll go up to Sole and apologize later, otherwise giving Sole space and letting them know he's there for them
He'll do little things to support them if they seem really bothered by the news, like letting them sleep in a bit longer or giving them some extra snacks he scavenges
Maxson (Before BB):
Honestly not as surprised as one might think
Of course the random "200 year old" wastelander who "grew up" in Boston, right where the Institute is located, is a synth.
Very likely he will kill Sole himself and bring their head back as a trophy - boost morale and show the Institute that they're not going to let their attacks work
(He doesn't even consider that Sole may not have known. He will always believe they're a spy)
Danse is getting some serious disciplinary action for allowing a Synth in, that's for sure. No more fancy lads for a MONTH >:(
Maxson (After BB):
Oh he's not letting this happen again
Pissed off that two synths could breach their defenses, and pissed off at himself that Sole and Danse's relationship didn't raise more alarms for him
But also very, veryterrified
Once is a fluke. Twice is a pattern. This went from a crazy unprecented situation to something going very wrong in a way he has no idea on how to fix
Honestly this emotional turmoil might give Sole the upper hand in convinving him to let them live - it's possible Sole could survive run away with enough persuasion
They won't be allowed back in the Brotherhood, that's for sure
Nick:
Immediate jump into gentle, distanced comfort
He knows Sole's not a spy, he knows how much it hurts to be accused of that, and he knows first-hand how hard it id to come to terms with being a synth
Nick likes having his space to deal with issues, so he'll try not to crowd or overwhelm Sole. He'll even offer the bed in the detective agency if they just need a quiet place to work through it all
He'll open up about his own story if asked, and maybe even tell Sole a bit about pre-war Nick and the type of man he was
Anything to bring Sole even a bit of comfort he was in need of when he first woke up as a synth. That's the least he can do, in his opinion
Piper:
:o
"How did you not KNOW? Like SURELY there would be SOMETHING that tipped you off! Do you have gaps in your memory?? Do you remember the Institute?? Can you feel the chip in your brain???"
She's both blindsighted by the reveal and flabberghasted that she actually gets the chance to talk to a KNOWN, non-hostile synth
If Sole's clearly distressed she takes a moment to back off, and it sets in exactly what it all means for Sole to find this out about themself
Tries to comfort them the best she can, holds off on all the questions and assumptions
It wouldn't change her opinion on synths as a whole, I mean, she's best friends with Nick and still chooses to spread scary stories, but she'll give Sole space and tries to be polite about it
Preston:
"Oh, shit... how long have you known?"
The reveal throws him for a loop for a bit but he keeps a level head and let Sole do the explaining before he comes to any conclusions
The Institute's scary, he's seen first-hand how they'll just mow down anyone who gets in their way. He's honestly terrified of them, deep down
But Sole isn't working for them. Once he knows that he's alright with it.
Tries not to make too big of a deal out of it, but Sole can kinda tell it's on his mind. Not necessarily in a bad way, he just keeps thinking about if anyone else he knows is a synth, and how many people live their whole lives without ever figuring that out...
Strong:
He doesn't really get what a synth is and Sole really, really shouldn't tell him
The second he realizes synths come from the Institute things get dicey - Supermutants aren't big fans of the Institute
Let's hope he respects Sole enough to let them talk him out of his rage. Just maybe he'll believe them if they insist they're not working for the Institute
X6-88:
Does he... know???
I mean his job is to hunt down synths he SHOULD know. But I think there's also a world where he was kept blind about it
If he knew beforehand I feel like the Institute would have been hiding it from Sole for a reason, so he might be more worried about their plans being messed up than anything
But if he had no idea? This might just send him into a mini existential crisis
Why would the Institute lie to him??? How did he - a synth created for the Sole purpose of catching synths - not be able to recognize Sole???
Until that existential crisis gets him to the point where he questions his loyalty, he'll probably start to think very lowly of Sole
After all, he does believe synths are just machines. He won't like, commit hate crimes or anything, but he'll get frusturated if Sole can't "follow orders" as effectively as he's been brainwashed taught to do.

in light of Fallout being popular again, this is a list of things I wish Bathesda had done in Fallout 4:
made a way to side against the railroad without having to kill Deacon. Even if you send him to the most distant settlement, he still spawns in the RR HQ and you MUST shoot him. I don’t like it :(
have the option to remove Danse from power armour after saving him from the BoS. It doesn’t make sense that he’s an enemy of the BoS and still walks around in their power armour. Especially since the armour he wears until Blind Betrayal becomes yours if you side with the Brotherhood. It’s physically impossible for you to own it while he’s wearing it.
on that note, I wish Bathesda had written Danse’s dialogue differently once he’s revealed as a synth. He’s still calling himself a solder of the BoS/acting like he’s a part of the BoS months after the BoS kicked him out and literally said they’d kill him on sight. It doesn’t make sense for him to keep speaking that way. I know he sees himself as a solder, but the things he says counteracts everything you do in Blind Betrayal
adding more to that, I wish some of Danse’s romance dialogue was…nicer. Spamming ā€œThoughts?ā€ only gives you TWO romance lines and they’re both very vague. Nick says nicer things to me and he isn’t even a romance option
MAKE NICK A ROMANCE OPTION
make Synth Shaun a companion 🄺
dialogue between Codsworth and Synth Shaun about pre-war life/Codsworth talking about Nate/Nora (whichever spouse died) to Shaun
i wish you could REPAIR NICKS FACE??? Like Nick has the same face as the Gen 1’s, and you kill plenty of them. How hard would it be to remove a Gen 1 face and give it to Nick so that he isn’t falling apart. You’re telling me that DiMA looks absolutely fine and Nick has to stay looking like someone threw him into a shredder? Bullshit.
personal quest for Hancock, that includes a decent amount of dialogue if you’re romancing him
interactions between the character you’re romancing and Synth Shaun, specifically them treating him like family

Fo4 : I've always wondered what Nat, Synth Shaun and Duncan think about all the companions (Sole including ā€œNoraā€).
______________________________________________________________
NORA
-Nat : shaun's mother do look enough like Piper. i mean, i change the blue color with red. and we already have another Piper.
-Shaun : I feel much happier with my real mom. Since both father and the scientists at the institute. who hardly ever want to spend time with me.
-Duncan : She cares a lot about me, as if she wants to be my mom too. ______________________________________________________________
DOGMEAT
-Nat : He is cute, funny, obedient and above all he is ten times smarter than Pete.
-Shaun : When I am sad, and Mom is not there. I always pet Dogmeat. He has a very soft fur, he calms me down.
-Duncan : My dad always wanted to have a puppy like Dogmeat. He says he can't call the stork, so he can bring little dogs.
______________________________________________________________
CODSWORTHS
-Nat : Codsworth is super nice to me and takes very good care of my two little friends, although sometimes he can be very pain with security.
-Shaun : He knew me when I was a baby, I know I don't have much of a memory with him, but my mom always told me, how well Codsworth took care of her.
-Duncan : I've never met a Mister Handy, up close. He's so round and has three eyes. Is he a robot mutant?
______________________________________________________________
PRESTON GARVEY
-Nat : If he is the leader of the minutemen, why does he always send Piper and Blue to do his job. can't he do it himself?
-Shaun : I don't know him very well, I'm usually always with Strurger, And help him fix Mom's car. Which has been sitting idle for two hundred and ten years.
-Duncan : My dad told me, when I grow up a little more. He'll give me a hat. Just like Mr. Preston.
______________________________________________________________
PIPER WRIGHT
-Nat : Sometimes I think I should be the oldest. I end up taking care of her more than she takes care of me.
-Shaun : It's Piper, a synth of my mom's. She looks a lot like my mom, they even behave almost the same.
-Duncan : She reminds me a lot of Aunt Red. Funny, smart And every time my dad misbehaves, she scolds him a lot
______________________________________________________________
NICK VALENTINE
-Nat : Nick is a father to me. When I'm sad, angry or when I'm lonely. Nick is always there to help me in everything. Like I'm his own daughter. I admire him a lot.
-Shaun : I admire uncle Nick a lot, when I grow up, I want to live thousands of adventures and solve many, many cases. Like what Uncle Nick does.
-Duncan : His face is scary, but he is super nice to me. He always tells me his adventure stories. He laughed when I asked him, though, if it's true that he drinks motor oil.
______________________________________________________________
JOHN HANCOCK
-Nat : How can it be, that a cool guy as Hancock, I have a brother as Different and Didactic. as the former mayor McDonugh.
-Shaun : Once, I asked him how it felt to be a Ghoul, out of curiosity. And even though mom scolded me afterwards for asking that question. Hancokc answered me that he looks much more handsome as a Ghoul.
-Duncan : Although my dad told me not to be afraid. This guy scares me a lot ( he has a trauma with Ghoul ).
_____________________________________________________________
R.J. MACREADY
-Nat : I like him. Right once told me she reminds me a lot of Lucy. When they were at Little LampLight. a and He tells some pretty bad jokes.
-Shaun : I didn't know that as a child, he lived with a bunch of kids & dogs in a cave, although I still don't know what exactly the word ā€œMUNGOā€ means.
-Duncan : Both here and in my aunt Red's town. He says my dad is a hero, although sometimes he is very stubborn and grumpy.
______________________________________________________________
CAIT
-Nat : My sister resents Cait's attitude. But I love her attitude.
-Shaun : One time, Myrna messed with me, for being a Synth. And Cait defended me, he told her that if she messes with me again he'll shove his bat up her Ass.
-Duncan : she is beautiful, funny, strong and brave, just like my aunt Bumble.
______________________________________________________________
PALADIN DANSE
-Nat : I hate this guy. I find him to be a very hypocritical man and a pain in the ass to many of his teammates. Especially Nick and Hancock.
-Shaun : I had heard horrible stories about the Brotherhood steel from Madison Li. But I see him as a nice guy. Although I see him getting a little grumpy with some of my mother's friends.
-Duncan : He is very mean to Dad. My dad tells me that he is like that, because he was raised in a family of pigs.
______________________________________________________________
CURIE
-Nat : curie, it's like having my own edma teacher. but being a synth.
-Shaun : They say that people don't incarnate to synth. But looking at Curie, I think my theory is true.
-Duncan : Mama Curie is loving, funny and kind, she lets me help heal people and says I am very good at healing people. I hope one day I can meet both of my aunts.
__________________________________________________________
DEACON ( BUTCH DE LORIA ? )
-Nat : I like him a lot, but sometimes he goes three people too far with his lies and sarcastic comments.
-Shaun : He still insists he's either a synth or a 101 Shelter Dweller named Butch De loria.
-Duncan : I love it when Uncle Deacon tells me his jokes. I laugh a lot.
______________________________________________________________
STRONG
-Nat : I don't know who the pervert was, who stuck Strong's head in the milk of human kindness. It's disgusting..
-Shaun : My mom told me that, although Strong. Be ā€œStrongā€. At heart he is a generous and kind Mutant.
-Duncan : My dad, he tells me that I have to eat the mushrooms from his cave, to be as strong and big as Strong.
____________________________________________________________
X6-88
-Nat : I don't know him at all, Piper has forbidden me to approach X6-88, he is a very dangerous person.
-Shaun : He is the only person I can scold, when he behaves badly with my mom's friends.
-Duncan : My dad tells me not to go near that man for anything in the world, he tells me that he is worse than Angela.
___________________________________________________________
ADA
-Nat : Great, another curie. but in asaultron version.
-Shaun : I love Ada. Especially when she's with codsworth. they make a good couple. ( Overheating codsworth )
-Duncan : Reminds me a lot of the old sentry who is always defending Aunt Red's town.
______________________________________________________________
OLD LONGFELLOW
-Nat : I always wanted to have a grandfather as wise and experienced as Mr. LongFellow.
-Shaun : Because all the older people, they always have white hair. Is it a fashion for older people?
-Duncan : I love to hear your stories. Mama Curie, she always tells me that I can learn a lot from the stories of the Old People.
______________________________________________________________
PORTER GAGE
-Nat : If I tell the truth, I don't want to have anything to do with him. he reminds me a lot of the evil maybern. ( He's a little afraid of gage )
-Shaun : When my mom told me that gage can be very scary. but he's a good guy at heart. and he just needs someone to guide him in the right direction.
-Duncan : I don't know him at all. my dad says people like Mr. gage and the slavers. they only exist to hurt innocent people.

ā€œSo do you cut anyone’s hair?ā€ Duncan asked, staring up at the mercenary in awe.
Butch, who had just finished reassuring Murphy and MacCready that he’d clean up after himself if he had customers, gave the boy a smile. ā€œSure. So long as they pay.ā€
ā€œWhat’s the best haircut you’ve ever done?ā€ Shaun pressed.
ā€œHmmm.ā€ Butch stroked his clean-shaven chin in thought. ā€œThat’s tough. I do a mean mohawk, but I don’t do them often because of how much product you need. You’ve got to refine snaptail sugar and mix it into a paste, it’s a whole thing.ā€
ā€œNo, I don’t suppose extra-strength hair spray is as common as it used to be,ā€ Codsworth said.

All of the companions are in sanctuary when one (or more) of the companions prank Nora. As they try to run away Nora takes off her Sandal and throw both of them with scary good aim hitting them on the head knocking them down. Ya gonna have to set up a scenario or something cause I’m laughing to hard think of one
A/N: Thank you so, so much for this request, friend!!! 🄰🄰🄰 You have the best oneshot ideas and they always are so fun to write šŸ˜‚šŸ’™šŸ’› This one was a little short, but hopefully still good!
Please do feel free to send some more in! 😊 I'm taking requests for oneshots again!
Word Count: 793
Ā Ā  Nora was peacefully minding her own business when it happened, her innocently standing on the patio next to the workbenches as she surveyed her home in Sanctuary. She was watching Curie as she had a rather humorous conversation in which she was attempting to persuade Codsworth to become a synth like she had.
Ā Ā  Codsworth, however, seemed extremely skeptical and his continued evasions and explanations were more than enough to entertain the vault-dweller as she took a well-deserved break from her usual duties.
Ā Ā  But then it happened, and all peace was over.
Ā Ā  Suddenly, a ton of goo covered her head and she gasped as her entire body was coated in it. She closed her eyes tightly, her mouth gaping open as she tried to keep her breath as the stuff coated her thoroughly. The shock that came over her rendered her temporarily unable to do anything, and her mind was racing as she tried to figure out what had just happened and what was on her.
Ā Ā  She had set up countless defenses and she had a hard time thinking it was some sort of wasteland creature despite the fact that her first thought had been a Mirelurk Queen. But the goo was not burning like the acid from Mirelurk Queens did, so she was once again back at the question of what it was and why it was on her.
Ā Ā  ā€œGo, go, go!!!ā€ Deacon’s far-too-gleeful voice suddenly yelled. Nora quickly heard Piper’s laugh somewhere in the midst and judging by the amount of footsteps hurrying away, Nora estimated that there were likely about three or four other people with him.
Ā Ā  For a moment, Nora just kept her eyes shut tightly, relief overcoming her that it was no sort of danger but a slight exasperation coming over her at the fact that she had just been pranked by such a disgusting method. She wrinkled her nose, wiping her eyes free of the goop that was currently covering her.
Ā Ā  She opened her eyes and to her utter disgust, it looked to be some sort of glue and water combo. Whatever it was, it was super slimy and she honestly had no idea how Deacon and the group had managed to get enough glue to mix with an entire bucket of water.
Ā Ā  Nora quickly looked back at them, watching them as they were trying to hurry away.
Ā Ā  Just as she had thought, Piper was one of the ones involved. She knew that Piper would never pass up an opportunity to mess with her as long as it was nothing harmful, so it was not a huge shock that she was part of the group. MacCready was in on it, too, and that did not surprise Nora in the least considering the fact that he was a big kid. It also seemed that Shaun was part of the scheme as well if his excited laughter and running was anything to go by, and Nora felt her heart soften just a little at the sight of him.
Ā Ā  However, her softening toward him had nothing to do with the revenge that she was going to deal to the other adult people involved.
Ā Ā  Nora quickly reached down for the nearest thing to her, and that just happened to be the shoe on her foot. It was fortunately a sandal since she had aimed on taking a break that day and did not need her usual boots. She figured it would be the perfect weapon against them.
Ā Ā  Or at least one of them in particular…
Ā Ā  Nora narrowed her eyes, closing one eye to assist in her aiming as she drew back the sandal. She then threw it, releasing it with expert aim that had been honed over her time in the wasteland, and she hit Deacon squarely in the back of the head with it.
Ā Ā  He fell over, and the rest of the group stopped for a moment, shock written across their faces as they looked at Nora. They were obviously quite surprised that she had managed to throw the thing and hit Deacon from that far of a distance.
Ā Ā  Nora reached down for her other sandal as she stood there, idly smacking the thing against her other hand before calling out to them.
Ā Ā  ā€œWho wants to go next?!ā€
Ā Ā  They were instantly spurred into action, and they took off running, Piper still looking behind her as she watched her best friend.
Ā Ā  ā€œWait for me, guys! Man down!ā€ Deacon cried, and they did not bother stopping for him, the group splitting up with MacCready taking one direction with Shaun and Piper heading off together in another.
Ā Ā  Nora rolled her eyes, smirking as she wiped another blob of glue from her forehead that was threatening to drip in her eyes.
Ā Ā  It was on now.

ā€œHancock is bad with kidsā€ ā€œHancock is bad with Shaunā€ no, well, maybe, but where I was getting at was, the objectively funniest dynamic there that I can think of is that Hancock does, indeed, not know what to do around kids BUT Shaun is super curious because of that and will not leave him alone. Hancock will be looking at sole like ā€œI can’t handle this, i don’t know what to do, get your kidā€ and Shaun is just like ā€œwhy do you dress like that? Do you still get sunburnt? Do you like lazer rifles? I like lazer rifles.ā€ Like a cat that sees the person ignoring them and goes up to them for attention. And the funniest response from sole is something like ā€œthe sunburn question is rude, Shaunā€ and then they continue doing whatever they were before saying that.
#emma posts#fallout 4 oc#this is their dynamic. i have decided that#especially because his mom did something similar when acquiring a new dad#and also curiosity obviously runs in the family#I am building on these characters where canon left gaps#especially synth Shaun. obviously#I am not ignoring my youngest child 😤#or my eldest but he’s dead now and it’s complicated#wait. is codsworth her kid? she made him and sees him as family#that feels different though#the mathison way is just pestering someone (especially with questions) until they at least tolerate you#well. not with EVERYONE. just people they find interesting enough#sort of. i don’t actually know how to explain who his mom decides to befriend/adopt#or reverse adopt. nick is her new dad and it’s not optional#she imprinted like a duckling. she’s in her 20s? doesn’t matter#Hancock is like ā€˜you’re a parent though and I’m not good with kids. should you really settle for me?’ and she’s like#Shaun will be great with you! the question is will you adapt’#ā€˜shouldn’t it be the other way around?’ ā€˜no. you’ve seen me with nick. this family adopts. even when adopted’#he possibly feels some dread and she continues with ā€˜we’re family when we decide we are. But can the people we declare family handle us?’#she is of course saying this increasingly ominously because she finds it funny. it is true though. everything she said. it’s true.#and it’s okay if he doesn’t see you as a dad. just that he accepts you as my partner. at least it’s that way to him and i. I know my kid.’#her knowing her kid also makes her constantly concerned about him getting into something for having questions. She knows she has.#that’s how she met Hancock in the first place. Piper. I found something crazy. Piper I want answers#and piper was probably like ā€˜wtf is this blue?’ and sole was like ā€˜a story’#so they got in over their heads trying to solve a mystery… sort of?#those two get into all sorts of shit that way#her imprinting was probably part (mostly) trauma. but it happened regardless#I’m making this reblog able now because people find it funny apparently and if that’s all i don’t mind

Hai could I get fo4 complete reaction to the sole survivor being very big on giving praise? Like they're constantly complementing the companions but not in an overbearing way :) thank uuu
FO4 Companions reacting to the Sole Survivor's praise:
Cait
At first, she’s incredibly suspicious. Compliments? From someone who doesn’t want anything? She’s waiting for the catch.
Once she realises it’s genuine, she gets flustered and awkward, brushing off praise with a ā€œYeah, yeah, don’t go getting soft on me.ā€ But she starts subtly craving it.
Eventually, she starts preening a bit when she hears it, standing a little taller. ā€œDamn right I’m good at this,ā€ she’ll say, with a small but proud smile.
Codsworth
Absolutely adores it. He lives to serve, and knowing Sole appreciates him fills him with robotic joy.
ā€œOh, you are too kind! I do try my best, of course!ā€ He starts adding a little flourish when serving them tea, trying to impress them.
Might even get a little smug when others don’t get as much praise. ā€œAh, not everyone can be as meticulous as yours truly!ā€
Curie
Delighted and fascinated by Sole’s positivity, especially when directed at her scientific skills.
ā€œOh! You really think my work is amazing? That is… oh, you make me blush!ā€ She absorbs every word like a sponge, eager to impress them further.
Over time, she starts paying the praise forward, complimenting others in the group in an adorable, awkward way: ā€œYes, Cait, you… hit that man so well! Such force!ā€
Paladin Danse
Completely unsure of how to process it at first. Praise was always tied to performance in the Brotherhood, not simple appreciation.
Starts standing up straighter, subtly shifting into parade rest every time he is praised. ā€œThat’s… good to hear, soldier.ā€
He may not say it, but it means something to him. Eventually, he starts seeking approval in small ways, hoping to get an extra ā€œOutstanding workā€ when he pulls off something impressive.
Deacon
Smug as hell about it at first. ā€œOh, stop it, you charmer, you’ll make a spy blush.ā€
But deep down? It gets to him. Compliments aren’t something he gets often—especially not genuine ones.
He starts responding more sincerely over time, quietly muttering, ā€œYknow, you’re not too bad yourself.ā€ That’s Deacon for I’m touched beyond words.
Dogmeat
Is a dog. Therefore, absolutely loves the praise and thrives on it.
Tail-wagging intensifies with every ā€œGood boy!ā€ until he’s practically vibrating.
Starts bringing the Sole Survivor even more random junk from the wasteland, tail wagging proudly as he receives his due recognition.
Gage
At first? Suspicious as hell. Compliments in Nuka-World usually meant someone wanted something.
Eventually, he starts accepting them at face value, though he plays it cool: ā€œYeah, well, I am pretty damn good at what I do.ā€
But if he ever hears a genuine ā€œI trust you,ā€ that’s it. That’s the moment he realises he’s actually loyal to them, no strings attached.
John Hancock
Drinks it up like the finest chems. ā€œOh, you really do know how to sweet-talk a ghoul.ā€
Starts playfully fishing for them. ā€œI dunno, was that a badass move or the most badass move?ā€
But after a while, he stops playing—he just enjoys hearing them say nice things. It reminds him that he’s worth appreciating.
Robert MacCready
At first? Incredibly awkward. ā€œUh… thanks? I guess?ā€ He’s not used to compliments that aren’t sarcastic.
Eventually, he starts mumbling a quiet ā€œThanksā€ and actually appreciating it. He never realised how much he craved validation.
If they ever tell him he’s a great dad? That’s it. He’s done. Might actually tear up.
Nick Valentine
Smirks at first, taking it in stride. ā€œCareful, kid. A fella might start thinkin’ you like having him around.ā€
But deep down? It means a hell of a lot. People don’t usually appreciate him as more than an old synth detective.
Eventually, he starts throwing it right back. ā€œWell, you’re not half bad yourself, partner.ā€ And from him, that’s high praise.
Piper Wright
Blushes furiously at first, brushing it off. ā€œPfft, come on, you’re making me sound cooler than I am.ā€
Eventually, though? She starts believing it. Starts walking with a bit more confidence, feeling like she is as capable as they say she is.
She starts writing about them in a new way—not just as a legend, but as a genuinely good person.
Preston Garvey
Blinks the first time they compliment him, looking genuinely surprised. ā€œYou really mean that?ā€
He’s so used to being the one lifting everyone else up—it takes him a while to accept that someone wants to do the same for him.
Eventually, he starts smiling more. ā€œThanks, General. That means a lot.ā€ And it really, really does.
Strong
Confused at first. Why is human saying nice things? What is this strange behavior?
Eventually, decides it is a human battle custom and accepts it. ā€œYES. STRONG IS GOOD SMASHER.ā€
Might even start attempting his own version of praise: ā€œHUMAN… IS GOOD TOO. NOT AS STRONG AS STRONG. BUT GOOD.ā€
X6-88
Is initially just... silent. He doesn’t know how to react. Compliments aren’t part of his programming.
Eventually, he just nods at them. ā€œNoted.ā€ But his tone softens over time.
He never outright asks for it, but if they ever stop praising him? He might just subtly start working harder for it.
Ada
Initially confused but appreciative. ā€œThat is… unexpected. Most humans do not take the time to compliment machines.ā€
Over time, she begins to recognise it as genuine appreciation and responds in kind. ā€œYour leadership is commendable. I am… grateful to be part of this.ā€
Though she may not have emotions like a human, her tone becomes just a touch warmer when speaking to Sole, like she’s learning what it means to feel valued.
Automatron
Default programmed response: ā€œThank you for your feedback.ā€
But if they keep it up, the bot might start adapting its speech patterns. ā€œAnalysis: Positive reinforcement detected. Conclusion: You are… kind.ā€
If modified with a personality matrix, the bot might get cocky. ā€œYes, yes, I am the pinnacle of engineering excellence. Carry on, human.ā€
Old Longfellow
Grumbles about it at first. ā€œDamn fool, ain't no need to butter me up. Just doin’ what I always done.ā€
But over time, he starts getting used to it. Starts looking forward to Sole’s words, even if he won’t admit it.
The real moment of breakthrough? When he finally mutters, ā€œHeh. Y’ain’t so bad yourself, kid.ā€ That’s Longfellow for I respect the hell outta you.
Porter Gage
At first? Suspicious as hell. Compliments? That ain't how the real world works. ā€œYeah, yeah, what angle you workin’, boss?ā€
But once he realises Sole is just… like that, he starts soaking it in. ā€œDamn. Not used to hearin’ that kinda thing. Feels… nice, I guess.ā€
Eventually, he starts giving them a nod of approval in return. ā€œGotta say, boss—you got a way of makin’ folks wanna follow ya. Guess I picked the right side after all.ā€

considering (some)ghouls, gen2 synths, and robots don't need to breathe, do you think Hancock, Codsworth, and Nick would ever team up to get Cass some freshly caught seafood? like if she mentions missing fish and chips or something? i'm imagining shenanigans as they run into those giant squids from the tabletop.
Tumblr media
Idk about the Commonwealth being the best seafood buffet. I always just end up thinking of those dolphish on the shores šŸ’€
Btw my fallout blog is @commonwealthcass so feel free to catch more Fallout stuff there!

if ur still taking requests, could you do r!companions reacting to when sole introduces them (maybe to like a settler or something) as their husband/wife for the first time :0?
Romanced! FO4 Companions React to Sole Referring to Them as Husband/Wife for the First Time
This is so precious! It makes me wonder what weddings in the wasteland are like šŸ¤”
Anyways, let me know if you wanna see anyone else for this! :)
(also, sorry for being gone for a thousand years, love you guys for sticking around <3)
I hope you love it!Ā
Cait:
Not much had changed after they'd said their vows.
It was a strange practice in this sort of reality, anyhow. Who in their right mind would be off fiddling with the thought of marriage when most folks were struggling on scraped hands and knees just to get by?
Sole, apparently.
Wouldn't be the first time they'd concerned themselves with something so unimportant and hairbrained in their new reality. Damn pre-war mentality.
But she'd humored them. They didn't do a whole ceremony, didn't have a priest or a cake, or even a dress. No, it was just each other and a few words, a couple of promises that she would never admit had... well, had choked her up, somewhat.
Sole's always been too sentimental for they're own good. And for my own good too, apparently.
Like she'd thought before the 'ceremony,' though, nothin' was all that different after the fact. Traveling together, watching each other's backs, sleepin' at Sole's place on the same shoddy mattress...
She didn't mind that, though. Nothin’ had to change for Cait to know that she was truly happy for the first time that she could remember.
What had shaken her, though, was when they'd met a couple settlers that had recently moved to Sanctuary when they stopped by for a visit. That, too, had been normal. At first.
Preston gave them his usual too-long to-do list, Codsworth told them he'd been keeping the hubflowers in the front yard nice and tidy, Sturges showed off the new paint-job on the power armor Sole had gifted him a while back. When they ran into those new folks, though, when that word 'wife' left her lover's lips, Cait had physically reeled back like she was dodging a blow.
Sole's look after the interaction was full of concern, of uncertainty. It made Cait's chest ache.
"Jus' unused to it, is all." She'd told them as reassuringly as she could manage, her fingers moving over Sole's shoulders to lace together at the base of their neck. "It'll come with time, love."
"Good," They said, their huff of relief only slightly exaggerated. "But if it doesn't, I'm warning you now, I might just have to marry you again."
Cait chuckled at that.
"And next time, I'm not letting you forgo the ceremony."
"No!" Cait groaned playfully.
"Nor the guests, or the dress, and those sappy vows will be read for everyone to hear--"
"Enough, you little shite. Go on, then. Call me wife at the end of ev'ry sentence, jus' don't make me go through all that."
Sole giggled in return, their own hands finding purchase at Cait's hips and pulling her close.
"Though..." The redhead continued, with a mischievous glint in her bright eyes. "I, myself, wouldn't mind a second honeymoon."
Curie:
"Aw, mon cheri! Let me try, let me do it, too!"
Sole's grin was contagious as they motioned for their adorable wife to continue with her… well, unnecessary, (but Sole would never tell her that) introduction.
"Zhis is mon mari/Ʃpouse. We are just married, you see?"
The Diamond city bar-goer nodded politely to them, giving Sole an amused look that wasn't caught by the over-excited synth.
"Congratulations, you two look very happy."
Curie squeezed her hand all the tighter around Sole's, and she looked simply fit to burst with joy at the stranger’s words.
"We are. 'Appier zhan I could've dreamed." Her eyes sparkled as she looked fondly to her Sole, ā€œWe are so lucky to ā€˜ave found each other.ā€Ā
ā€œIt’s trueā€¦ā€ Sole echoed, the bargoer all but vanishing from the couple’s attention as they became lost in each other again.Ā
ā€œMaybe I should just leave you two be, for now. Seems like you’re still in that honeymoon phase, to me.ā€Ā
ā€œThat's, ahā€¦ā€ Sole’s words dissolved into a chuckle, as Curie turned away with a blush. ā€œThat’s also probably true. It was lovely meeting you, though!ā€Ā
Their new acquaintance waved a hand as he headed towards the bar once more, shaking his head with a grin as he noticed the way the pair went right back to existing in their own, sweet world. It was refreshing, he thought, to see two people so happy, so in love, in a world like this one.Ā
Danse:
He’d tried to introduce himself, at the start, to these friends of Sole’s, but… He’d slipped up, as he often does.Ā
Danse. My name is Danse. Nothing precedes that, I’m… not a Paladin anymore.Ā
He’d never been without a title before, not since he joined the Brotherhood all those years ago, and his name still felt so naked without it, like it was missing something so integral. As usual, however, Sole had saved him. They’d noticed, even before he did, that he was about to err, and thankfully cut him off beforehand, but then…
He’d almost forgotten. He didn’t know how he could forget. The day he and Sole vowed to spend the remainder of their lives together had been one of the best of his life, but their past weeks were filled with the rest of the days upon that list… They hadn’t been away from each other’s sides, hadn’t really met anyone new, so it was almost uncanny when he heard the word– the title leave their lips.Ā
I’ve never been without a title…
Unwittingly, Danse found himself puffing up at the sound of it, much like he had when he was first called ā€˜Paladin’. He grinned and stood straight and proud, nodding decisively at the sound of the word husband leaving his partner’s lips. His spouse’s lips.Ā
Danse had never planned for an outcome like this, never thought it would be possible to dedicate the time, energy, emotional attention and knowhow he needed to be involved in a lifelong, committed relationship, but then again, Sole had made many things possible that he’d never known would be in store for him. He couldn’t imagine his life any other way now, even with the severe deviation from his original plan for himself, and though, at first, he felt like the entire situation was drastically more than unideal, he didn’t know how he ever managed to consider himself truly happy without Sole by his side. They filled the immense chasm of hurt that was drilled through him the day he lost his identity, the day he was no longer a part of the cause that he’d dedicated his everything to, but if they were to be taken from him? Gone from his life for one reason or another? He knew not even the Brotherhood could fill the crippling hole they would leave in their wake.
This new title, the new responsibility to be there for his counterpart, through thick and thin, sickness, health, all that the wasteland would throw at them, and everything in between, as far as Danse was concerned, it was the most worthwhile endeavor he’d ever taken on, and he knew he would do everything in his power to never let them down. No matter what it took, he’d strive to be worthy of that title bestowed upon him by the one he loves and respects more than any other.
Deacon:
Deacon didn’t think he’d ever be back here again… Not that he wasn’t absolutely thrilled to be Sole’s partner, their spouse, but… did he really deserve that title? He sure as hell didn’t the first time, and now, though he’s definitely less of a bigot, he still can’t wrap his head around the idea of Sole being happy with him, wanting him. As their husband.Ā
Shit…
He’d have to say something at some point, have to respond, have to smile and nod and shake hands and allow himself to be introduced like this...
Yikes.Ā
It was a familiar feeling, but in a horrible, anxiety-inducing sort of way. He didn’t want anything more than he wanted to be Sole’s husband, he’d been the one to propose after all, but introducing him like this? Was that safe? Was it necessary?Ā
The spy bit his lip, his body visibly stiffening up at the words leaving Sole’s lips, but the worst part? The worst part was that jump in his gut at the sound of it. At first he thought it was the discomfort, with a healthy sprinkling of fear and just a pinch of panic, but it wasn’t the cold shock that those emotions tended to elicit, no, this was sort of… warm? An excited sort of anxiousness, an enthusiastic leap within himself, not the uncomfortable churn he’d been expecting.Ā
Maybe I can be used to this again. Like the first time.
Despite himself, despite the momentary thousand-yard stare accompanied by a half-open mouth, Deacon recovered rather rapidly, and even found himself smiling. His eyes crinkled up beneath his iconic shades and he turned to look over to his love, his spouse, and his teeth broke through the threshold of his lips into a broad grin.Ā
ā€œWhew, could get used to that.ā€ He whispered with a wink and Sole had to bite their lips to keep from smiling too big.Ā
Goddamn, I don’t deserve them.
ā€œWell, you heard the boss. Sole’s husband. Yeah… Pleased to meet and shake.ā€Ā
But shit… I really could get used to this again. That much is true.Ā
Hancock:
ā€œFuck, sunshine, say it again for me, will ya?ā€Ā
Hancock immediately turned to face them at the sound of it, their hand in his proving not to be nearly enough contact to sate his need for his new spouse. He separated their fingers as that glorious title of his left their lips once more, as their mischievous eyes met his, opting to instead wrap both of his wiry arms around them, pulling his partner close while completely disregarding the traveling merchant in front of them. They’d get back to their purchase in a moment, but first… Hancock leaned forward, pressing his lips to his partner’s with a fervor that rivaled that of their kiss upon the altar.Ā
How can anyone expect me to hold back when they’re lookin’ at me like that? When they call me their ā€˜husband.’
The ghoul felt himself shudder, a grin spreading from his lips, infecting theirs in turn as he finally managed to pull away.Ā
ā€œMmm, yeah, damn straight.ā€Ā
Who would’ve ever thought?Ā
The esteemed bachelor, infamous junkie, proclaimer of every kinda freedom, and the Mayor of the city of sin and mirth… Married. And he couldn’t be more proud of it, more overjoyed at the prospect of spending his life with the one he loves, dedicating himself to one person. Sure, he never thought he’d see the day. But that didn’t change a damn thing.Ā
ā€œYeah, Sole’s husband speaking here. Pleased to make your acquaintance.ā€
MacCready:
Maybe he should feel guilty, maybe the sound should make him sad, should douse him in memories of his past, in a future that he’d hoped for, but never came to be. A future with another person, another possibility for his life… But when Sole called him their husband for the first time, in front of all these people at the bar, still dressed in their glorious, dare he say sexy, wedding clothes… God, the ex-merc couldn’t quit grinning.Ā
It felt… strange, sure, to be called husband again, but damn, it felt good, too. It was a reminder that he still could be happy, it was proof that there are second chances, even in a world as cruel as this one. Even for both of them, who came from broken homes, from pasts filled with loss and hardship, from such different upbringings, there was still hope.Ā
And so, he smiled. And he let himself smile.Ā
He’d dealt with the guilt already, since the moment he felt affection for his partner rising to the surface. From that first awkward kiss, their strangely sad first time together, to his first terrifying declaration of his love, he’d felt that guilt simmering under the surface, waiting to boil over and burn him from the inside out, make him hurt all over again, make moving on impossible, but… Even though it had always been there, it’s grown… weaker. Sole’s reciprocation, their affirmation, their shared feelings of wrongfulness that linger behind every touch, every feeling of fondness, of love… The two of them were two sides of the same damn coin, broken pieces that, by some miracle, could fit together to make each other whole.Ā
That, and he knew what Lucy and Nate/Nora would want. Their late spouses loved them both, and they would want them both to be happy now, not wallow away their days alone in grief and guilt.Ā
And now, MacCready could smile. And damn, did he do so. It was embarrassingly toothy, it scrunched his eyes and brought tears to them. He’d cried when he saw them at the wedding, and his eyes have hardly been dry since the ceremony earlier that day, and even as the pair collected their drinks from the bar top, he couldn’t keep his eyes off his partner. His spouse.Ā
It was strange to feel like this again, to be back in this situation, back to this point in life, just with another person, but if it was with Sole, MacCready could truly be happy again, if it was with them… he didn’t want to be anywhere else.
Nick:
It was so difficult to look away, to stop the smile from spreading too far across his synthetic lips, to pull his hand away from Sole’s in order to greet this stranger, to act as though it were normal for them to refer to him in that way. It shouldn’t be strange, with how long they’ve been together, how long they’ve been itching to use those titles for one another, but it still sent a shock through him. The warmness spread through his chest in such a way he didn’t know was even possible. Nothing could have ruined the moment that that word left his incredible partner’s lips, not even the way the stranger’s eyes were widened, their mouth drawn to a thin line in surprise and just a hint of revulsion. Nick couldn’t care less.Ā
Keeping his good hand firmly clasped with Sole’s, he extended his skeletal one out for them to consider, finally forcing himself to look away from Sole’s sweet, glowing expression to meet the other’s judgemental gaze. If he’d cared even in the slightest, he might’ve snorted and made some remark, but this didn’t matter at all. The approval of some schmuck in the wilds of the Commonwealth wasn’t even remotely something Nick desired, and there was no way in hell he’d let something like this ruin even a fraction of his elation at finally becoming Sole’s husband.Ā
ā€œGood to meet ya.ā€ He said with an insultingly broad grin as their eyes locked to his metal hand, their own making no move to embrace his in the customary greeting.
ā€œUsually it’s polite," Nick began, with just a hint of salt, "When someone extends a hand, to shake it.ā€
That seemed to pull the stranger from their thoughts, and tentatively, they reached out and gave a small shake before quickly pulling away.Ā
ā€œThere we go, that’s it.ā€ Nick let his skeletal hand fall back to his side and felt Sole give his other a tight squeeze in comfort. ā€œAnd just in case you didn’t catch it, it’s Nick. Valentine. Detective extraordinaire, and Sole’s husband.ā€Ā
A sweet sound met his ears as Sole chuckled beside him, their grin scrunching their eyes as they gave their husband that look, the one that said it all, the one he’d never grow tired of seeing. The amusement at his words, and that genuine affection for him behind it all, god, it’s what Nick lived for.
Piper:
ā€œAw, Blue! It sounds so good when you say it!ā€ The reporter’s eyes lit up as Sole introduced her to the bartender, and her hand squeezed their arm all the tighter. She’s been waiting, what seems like forever, to hear those words leave her partner’s lips. Now, it was even better than she’d imagined. She gazed lovingly in Sole’s direction, as they patiently waited for her to turn her attention to the man across the counter.
ā€œRight! Hi, yes, yeah. I’m their wife. Nice to meet you.ā€ She grinned at the man as a look of good-humored exasperation passed over his features. At his response’s lack of enthusiasm, Piper leaned forward, nearly separating her arm from Sole’s, and brought her free hand to the side of her mouth, whispering to him nearly loud enough for the entire room to hear.
ā€œWe just got married.ā€
ā€œI couldn’t have guessed.ā€ He said, deadpan, with the slightest indication of a grin crinkling his eyes.Ā
ā€œHere’s your key, you two. Enjoy.ā€Ā
Sole thanked the man as Piper enthusiastically hauled them towards the stairs up to their rented room. They followed along behind the giggling reporter, their grin rivaling her own as the pair stumbled up the wooden steps excitedly. With Piper, it certainly was bound to be an eventful honeymoon. But Sole already knew that when they married her, and who were they kidding? They wouldn't have it any other way.
Preston:
Preston just cannot quit staring. He hardly even hears what the other minutemen are saying to him and his new spouse, still their General and Lieutenant. It was rather uncharacteristic of him to be paying so little attention, but how can he help it? It was their wedding day, and Sole looked more incredible than he’d ever seen them, which was saying a whole hell of a lot for his near-perfect partner; not to mention the way they’d practically ordered him to refrain from thinking of work for the whole day.Ā
He’d thought it would be harder to do so, his overzealous work ethic being the brunt of many a joke amongst the other minutemen and Sole’s many friends, and yet… Today, Preston finds it much easier than ever before to focus on nothing but them.Ā
Sole. In all their perfect glory, standing by his side, fingers locked between his, a persistent and glorious grin spread across their lips as they greeted the many guests that attended the ceremony.Ā
As an unfamiliar couple approached the pair, Preston still remained utterly entranced by his love, their polite voice, the way the soft glow of the slowly setting sun highlighted every perfect feature, the feel of their hand in his, their shoulder pressing comfortingly against his own.Ā
When their introduction leaves Sole's lips, he’s pulled back to reality.Ā
ā€˜My husband,’ they’d said. That’s… That’s me.Ā
Preston blinked as his cheeks swelled from the pressure of his humongous grin.Ā
I will never get tired of that. He decided in less than an instant. In fact, as the night goes on, into the next few weeks of their early marriage, and all the years after, he tries to refer to them by their own spously title as often as is appropriate, and glows with pride and appreciation each time they do the same.
X6-88:
It wasn't proper, but for once in the courser's life, he couldn't be bothered to care.
Sole was his Director, and if anyone in the Institute took issue with their word, with their choices when it came to their own personal life, they could bring it up to him. He'd love to see how that plays out.
For now though, X6 allowed himself the unusual pleasure of being unbothered by it. Dr. Ayo could look as appalled as he wanted, Dr. Volkert could keep blushing with barely-checked rage up to his ear tips, and the rest of X6’s fellow coursers could continue with their stony glares.
Though he wouldn't admit it, X6 actually withheld a crooked grin at the way some of the synths looked at him with such awe. He felt their glares, heard their whispers, saw the ways their fists clenched, but it was peripheral at best. Sole took center stage of his attentions on this day, and the intensity of a courser's attention was unmatched.
He felt their hand brushing his arm, his shoulder, his waist, he heard their voice say his name, introduce him with that hefty title he never once would've considered for himself if not for them, and he saw their face, their infectious grin. If they were aware of the animosity in the air surrounding them, Sole gave no indication.
And nor should they.
They had nothing to be ashamed of. One day, in the not-too-distant past, he might not have held that same opinion. Today though, he couldn't fathom 'shame,' and 'Sole' existing on the same plane. He was lucky to have them. Being with them was a greater honor and opportunity than the synth could have previously imagined possible for himself. He only hoped, in such an earnest, sentimental way that it felt as though he'd left his own body, that they felt similar sentiments at being with him.
If their expression, their words, their sincere vows were anything to go off of though, X6 would say that his hope was well-founded.

Every Fallout 4 Companion’s Approximate Birth Year (Part 3/3)
CVRIE — 2076
I assume Miss Nannies went out of production when the world exploded.
Codsworth — 2077
His box is still in your house during the prologue.
He also mentions enjoying the ā€œmonthsā€ he’s spent with you, though he might mean since Shaun was born.
Nick — 2175
We know it was over a century ago, but it can’t have beenĀ tooĀ far prior to the Gen 3 rollout around 2227.
I think Nick is the older brother, because it makes sense to start by creating a synth with stored personalities before trying to make one that develops a personality autonomously.
Longfellow — 2223
This man is only in his SIXTIES, they are LYING TO YOU
The Children of Atom were full-fledged on the Island when Longfellow was young. Confessor Cromwell is the one who sent them to Maine.
But he couldn’t have become Confessor until the mid-2250s, because he’s only FORTY-FOUR in Fallout 3, and he had a background as a trader before that! AND there still had to be time for the Children to travel all the way to Maine.
So Longfellow was born in the twenties, had his sad backstory in the fifties, and is about 65 in Fallout 4.
Strong — 2230
Strong could have been anyone, but I think he was either a divorced dad who would’ve been an accountant in another life, or just Mayor McDonough.
Hancock — 2235
Is 53-year-old Hancock controversial? Let me cook.
There’s support for the theory that synth McDonough was created before the election in 2282. We can assume the human had full gray hair at that point, because synths don’t go gray. So he was probably in his fifties at least.
John was younger, but he can’t have beenĀ thatĀ much younger. So he was probably ghoulified in his late forties.
Deacon — 2245
If you accept the John D. theory, thisĀ doesĀ put him a little on the young side, but it fits.
Gage — 2251
There’s not much backstory from his teens up to 2286, and I’m tempted to believe it was a shorter period. But he has late-thirties eyes.
…Eye.
Cait — 2260
Her parents helpfully drew the line atĀ childĀ trafficking, so we have a good idea of her age. She was 18 when she went into slavery and about 23 when she left.
Some time later, she spent about three years at the Combat Zone. Assuming some buffer room between the two periods, I put her at 27 years.
Danse — 2261
He’d have lived in the Institute for awhile, then Rivet City, then the Brotherhood.
He was already a paladin in 2277, but Maxson says it took him ā€œmany yearsā€ to become one.
Preston — 2262
I don’t know what it is about him that screams 25-year-old to me.
He joined the Minutemen at 17, then had ā€œa few good yearsā€ before 2282 when Becker died.
MacCready — 2264
He was twelve in August 2277, and at that point he’d been mayor for three years.
He became mayor at ten. So he’s got to be nearly thirteen at the start of Fallout 3, which would make him 23 in Fallout 4.
Piper — 2266
Nat seems 13 to me.Ā
If Piper is old enough to have taken care of her as a baby, but not old enough to have significant memories of their mother, 21 sounds about wright.
Curie — 2277
Glory escaped the Institute in 2280, and she and G5 had known each other for some time before that.
Ada — 2281
Jackson seems to have created her reasonably recently.
Dogmeat IV — 2285
I think he is ouppy:)
X6-88 — 2287.Ā
Yeah, I said it.
This man thinks he’s so evil but he’s an actual baby.
My reasoning is that he wishes he had been there to see the University Point massacre in 2286, but apparently wasn’t.
It makes the game so much funnier.
If he was born earlier in the year, he could have been trained in time for the Kellogg flashback.

synth!codsworth headcanons!
so these are specifically for my synth AU that will be the primary verse of his character [though Handy Codsworth interactions are always open to folks]. this MAIN AU is set during the Fallout TV series.
in the canon i'm writin, this will be a MINUTEMEN controlled Commonwealth set about a decade after Fallout 4. the institute is gone, the brotherhood has fled, and the MINUTEMEN protect the commonwealth.
the former mr handy turned synth CODSWORTH is made mayor of the settlement of Sanctuary, located outside the ruins of VAULT 111. the sole survivor [nate, unless dealing with a female sosu] has made him mayor and he serves as a second hand to the general of the minutemen.
i'll probably make variants of this AU if folks wanna do a Brotherhood run [in which case Codsworth is a refugee and has fled the Commonwealth along with many other synths and ghouls], but the primary focus is a Minuntemen or Railroad run.
