I really just can’t contain myself and I just have to let this out.

Don’t you think it’s amazing that the ONLY two K-soloists that have topped the Billboard Hot 100 are dating?

I really can’t contain my head around it. We’ve given them a lot of nicknames to celebrate how they’re a power couple—ace duo, Busan’s pride/princes/kings, main pop boy and it boy. Usually, it comes up when they, as a unit, are highlighted in front of everyone. For instance:

I always feel a great amount of pride when stuff like this happens. It reinforces what an actual power couple they are. But god, this Billboard Hot 100 No. 1 achievement takes it to the next level.

I’ve seen dozens of posts and tweets today celebrating not just Jungkook, but Jimin too. And I know, I know, we’ve never really needed all that external validation, but it FEELS SO NICE, doesn’t it? To see non-Jikookers, non-fans, the media just keep repeating how Jimin and Jungkook are the only Korean soloists who’ve reached No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100.

Do you see how hot this is?

And—at least for us over here—they just happen to date each other? Do you see how fucking special that is? It’s one thing for Koreans to celebrate two Korean idols topping the Hot 100. It’s another thing for ARMYs to celebrate two idols belonging in BTS topping the Hot 100. It’s another thing for Busan residents to celebrate two idols from their city topping the Hot 100.

It’s another thing for Jikookers to celebrate that 2/2 of their ship are the only two K-soloists that have topped the Billboard Hot 100.

And as if that’s not enough, Jimin just had to post Jungkook’s achievement on his IG. And Jimin’s dad just had to hold a surprise event today.

Jimin posting isn’t unlike the other posts he’s made for the members. That’s not a Jikook-only event. It’s the fact that BB Hot 100 No. 1 Artist Park Jimin posted about BB Hot 100 No. 1 Artist Jungkook. Doesn’t that give you goosebumps? It’s worth reporting!

I know it looks like I’m inflating Billboard Hot 100 a little too much. But we know something like this means a lot to them. And I definitely think it means a lot more that both of them achieved it.

Imagine them just casually saying good night to each other last night, while cuddling.

“Good night, No. 1 Billboard Hot 100 artist.”

“Good night to you too, No. 1 Billboard Hot 100 artist.”

Because they are.

And all we can do is imagine, because obviously, that’s not the kind of thing they’d share with us. And that’s the best part, you know? They get to be in their bubble and celebrate by themselves, the way they were in their bubble in NYC/CT.

Except now they’re two No. 1 Billboard Hot 100 artists. And they’re probably just eating cake or boxing or doing something familiar—and normal—together right now. They’ll celebrate, and then they’ll just be.

We can all argue our asses off here. And they won’t care. And their akgaes and antis can keep blaming either half of Jikook for sabotage or favoritism, and Jikook won’t care.

[I do believe Jimin was wronged in the grand scheme of things, but Jeon “You know I’m-hyung’s fan” Jungkook is NOT to be blamed.]

Jikook will be in their protective bubble, doing their own thing the way they did in Tokyo, in NYC, in Connecticut, the way they always do in Korea. It’s a BTS thing and a Jikook thing.

They don’t owe us photo dumps, and GCFs, and lives, and Weverse posts, and confirmations of relationships.

It reminds me of AO3 writer unconscious’ description of Jikook in her canon compliant Taemin/Kai fic “this love isn’t crazy” (yeah, it’s not Jikook-centric, and I’m not even a Taekai shipper nor a stan of either, but the description stuck with me).

Here’s an excerpt, from Taemin’s POV:

“Bye, Yoongi,” Jeongguk says. He walks backward, tugging Jimin along, and offers Taemin a small smile over Jimin’s head. “Bye, Taemin-hyung.”

There’s an ease to the way they touch each other: familiarity and laughter as Jeongguk wrestles a bedroom door open with his back to it and falls inside with Jimin nearly on top of him.

Taemin’s not that much older than them, really, but watching them he suddenly he feels older. It’s a deep ache, affection and longing and something else—something in between nostalgia and envy. Was this something he could’ve had? (He said no.) It seems impossible. What Jeongguk and Jimin have is bottled lightning, like everything else Bangtan touches: impossibly lucky, impossibly successful. It depends on that strange insularity Bangtan survives in. They’re in their own world, most of the time, working endlessly but also detached from the larger industry; they have a defensive bubble around them, so their personal defenses aren’t so severe.

Not to discredit BTS or Jikook, but I do think there’s a level of luck that played into it all at the start. Or fate. Maybe they were all fated to meet, but they definitely worked hard to get results consistently.

But maybe, as in Serendipity, all this is no coincidence? I mean, this one gave me goosebumps.

As if it isn’t crazy enough that Hirai Saya looks so much like Jungkook, she just had to be born on the exact same day and year as Jimin? What?

I don’t know where I’m getting at. I just have so much love for Jikook and so much pride for what they’ve achieved on their own and together.

I cannot believe I just went from Billboard Hot 100 to Hirai Saya. Anyway, stream Seven and Like Crazy!

Hi! Am I the only one who wants Jimin to show more than the good kid image he has going on for him? I think he should act the way he likes, but as someone who biases him sometimes I just want to see more personality. All he’s been doing lately is post cutesy pictures of himself and talk about how much he loves army and how much he cares about them.

From all the BTS guys he seems to be the most guarded, he’s all about ARMY ARMY ARMY, I love BTS BTS BTS. Maybe Taehyung is annoying sometimes, but at least he shows more of his true self which is refreshing.

Anyways, I know Jimin said that he’s going to show a more raw and explicit side of himself so I hope that we are going to see more depth from him.

Well, I'm in two minds about this. I think Jimin has, in the past, shown quite a bit of his personality but sometimes I think people ignore it/don't notice. He has a very strong manly side—a very Busan man side (not to be too cliche). I love this side of him because it's a wonderful contrast to the vulnerability he shows in his art. He also has some pretty traditional values. When he used to do more VLives, he talked to army in a more traditional "bf" way—telling army to go to bed, not to whine etc. LOL. And I love how different his relationship with Taehyung is (besties with push and pull) versus Jungkook (super close, almost familial; different type of besties). He relates to each member differently, and it showcases a different side of him. I love that.

Yes, I agree he's super guarded and private these days. And I'm happy for him to do that. The thing is, Jimin is in a tough spot because he's had bad press on a couple occasions and he has some rather virulent "haters". The blunder with his house didn't reflect well, so I can't see him going for a less "goodie" persona. But personally, I'm okay for him to keep being him.

When it comes to his art, though, I hope he gets to be like Ten or Taemin and pursue a dance-centric solo career and eventually judge on dance shows and make his mark with amazing solo choreography. That's my hope for him. :)

609 Bedtime Story - Well that was a way to end it I guess. I did like how they resolved things with Mint, but I was hoping she’d figured out the connection between Mum and Dew. But that would mean talking about the parallel world again and they apparently decided that the entire conceit of the show didn’t matter anymore after ep 9. I’m so annoyed. (Edit: I just found out there is an alternate ending airing next week; most likely an ‘unhappy’ ending. What are you doing, show? I’m not even mad about it, just more confused.)

A League of Nobleman - The show I’m enjoying the most this week. I didn’t expect such gorgeous visuals in a historical mystery that isn’t a fantasy. There’ve been two mysteries so far and the second one involved a serial killer. I enjoyed the heck out of that arc. I have affectionately nicknamed Zhang Ping ‘Eyebrows’ in my head because those are some fantastic ones he’s sporting. Kudos to the makeup team.

The Lost Tomb (2015) - Binged most of season one last night and I’m hooked. This is amazing. Also, surprise Yang Yang! (I’d forgotten why it was on my watchlist, so he must be why.) The quality level is about late 90s/early 2000s but that was early fandom in my life, so nostalgia is hitting me hard. I’m having a great time with this one.

The New Employee - Seven episodes feels like a weird episode count for a series, but okay - I watched the last two episodes back to back and loved how they ended it. I do find it interesting however, that we never saw the ex/crush again after he was the trigger for the main relationship blip. It felt like they were going to take that further. I probably should have waited to binge this in one go, because I had completely forgotten that there was a manager who could cause trouble until he caused trouble. These short form dramas are generally pretty frustrating to watch because I can clearly see a longer (usually better) show around them. This one did feel complete, but I’m hoping they release a movie version.

609 Bedtime Story, ep 11 - “The kissing sounds don’t match the video?!” (This show botched the ending so bad, in multiple ways. This particular way made me laugh though.)

A League of Nobleman, ep 6 - “Surprise serial killer! Neat!”

My School President, ep 9 - “Gun and Tinn’s little scene on the beach while spying on Sound gave me major ‘future old married couple’ feelings.” (And now I want to read that future fic where Gun is home on break from touring and teasing his doctor husband into relaxing after a stressful shift.)

Never Let Me Go, ep 8 - “That was an extremely ominous music cue to tag the bathroom confrontation scene with.” (Up until that last moment it felt like any other scene in this show, but the music change elevated it and made it seem like Ben was going to come back and murder the kid. It threw me out of the scene it was such a jarring escalation. I may go back and watch it again, to see how it feels on rewatch.)

About three years ago (as of 2023), i was looking for a kaisoo non au fic. I had been looking at kaisoo videos and i thought to myself…i really wanna know what goes on in their heads. How did Taemin get so Lucky?

SHINee had always been a group that was good at staying healthy. They didn’t get super sick too often, and when they did they took care of each other. After being together for so many years, it’s easy to know what someone needs when they are sick.

Jinki  liked lots of tea  he basically inhaled the liquid. He also lived in the bathroom, either steaming himself or laying in a bath to soothe any stomach. Whereas Jonghyun wanted to be left alone, as long as he had people to bring him what he needed if he needed help. He would usually just sleep off the sickness. Kibum however, was the polar opposite, when he got sick it turned into the other 4 band members taking turns sitting at his bedside to either wake him up from his sickness induced nightmares, or to get him more sprite or medicine. Minho would just kind of mope around the house, unable to sit still for more than a 2 hour nap. It took someone slipping some medicine in orange juice to get him to take any because he refused to let his sickness stop him from living life.

Taemin, however, required someone with him much like Kibum, but he needed them for cuddling purposes, he wanted to be coddled and held when he felt disgusting. That being said, Taemin had just finished promoting his newest mini album and his health was at an all-time low, leave for the time he’d gotten the swine flu. He’d been overworking himself, performing a solo stage, doing promotions, filming his reality show. The other members had expressed concern over his health, but with his schedules, there hadn’t been time.

That’s how he got to where he was, smushed in a cuddle puddle with his best friends. Their dorm had a huge couch, more than big enough to fit the five men.

Taemin had been sprawled out in the middle of their couch, box of issues on the coffee table in front of him, the last tissue stuffed in his nose. He was whining and groaning softly because the others had gone out for a schedule but made him stay at home. He just wanted someone to hold him and because he was just so cold. He laid there for what felt like hours until he heard the door open and their dorm was filled with four familiar voices. Taemin  threw his head back to look at his hyungs.

“Taeminnie, how are you feeling babe?” Kibum asked, walking to him right away. The elder sat next to Taemin and wrapped both arms around him and pulling him into his lap. Kibum gently rubbing his back. Taemin just buried his head into Kibum’s chest, curling up in his lap.

“How about we watch a movie?” Jinki suggested, walking to their shelf of movies, “Any requests?”

“Lion King!!” Jonghyun said, taking a seat next to Kibum on the couch. Jinki laughed and put the requested dvd into the player.

Minho was already on his way back from the kitchen with a large bowl of popcorn in hand and a jello cup for Taemin. Minho sat next to Taemin who was still perched in Kibum’s lap, leaving Jinki to take the other side of Minho.

Taemin let himself get pulled in by the Disney movie they had watched too many times via Jonghyun’s request. He watched contently, soothed by Kibum’s hands running along his back and legs, massaging the tensed muscles and the body heat from Minho on the other side of them.

When Simba’s father died, Taemin could help but to cry. He thought about how caring his members were towards him, brother-like and full of complete love. He thought about how it would feel like to lose this, like Simba lost his source of care. Taemin felt himself tear up, he normally wasn’t this emotional but the recent stress he’s had lately and the sickness was getting to him, and Kibum’s cuddling him broke the dam. Tears flowed freely and the others looked at him to find out what’s wrong. Taemin just shook his head and cuddled against Kibum more, also reaching out to hold Minho’s hand to ground himself more.

Kibum smiled at their maknae, what a cutie. He leaned back into Jonghyun’s shoulder as he played with Taemin’s hair and scratched his back. Jonghyun nudged him and back to nuzzle into the younger’s back, massaging the muscles slowly, eyes still trained on the movie.

Minho smiled at Taemin and squeezed his hand, playing with his fingers and rubbing the pad of his thumb over the younger’s knuckles. At the same time he wiggled back against Jinki who wrapped his arms around him and hugged him. Jinki then rested his head on Minho’s shoulder and drew pattern’s into his side.

It took ten minute for Jinki and Kibum to fall asleep, both softly snoring, Jinki using Minho as a pillow, and Kibum used Jonghyun’s shoulder.

There was a shared look of adoration on the faces of those left awake. And when the movie ended, no one dared to move, not wanting to risk waking up their tired bandmates. So they laid there in silence, sleep quickly claim both Minho and Jonghyun, leaving Taemin to his own devices.

He sighed in contentment, and despite being sick, and feeling ill, he felt an overwhelming sense of love and complete adoration towards his bandmates. How did he get so lucky?

how the mighty fall (in love)

summary:

athletes train for years to be given the chance to become an olympian. lee taemin is a champion in every sense of the word in the world of men's figure skating - he's garnered gold medals at nationals, the grand prix final, four continents, worlds, and did we mention that he's also the current reigning olympic champion?

skating is pretty much all taemin knows. jongin has often joked that the ice is taemin's first love, because let's be real: the skating prodigy honestly can't remember a time in his life when he wasn't spending hours every day on the ice.

it's the 2022 olympics, which means it's time for taemin to either defend his title or let a new champion rise.
