PetePorsche - 10/10

Adorable, amazing, brilliant, showstopping, spectacular! Best friend to lovers to soulmates for the win. Really pure ship. What else is there to say? Pete and Porsche will sneak away on little dates, mostly to eat and smoke. They will be partners in crime to all sorts of crazy ideas. Pete will definitely go and open a restaurant by the beach with Porsche. Pete and Chay will be best friends. Chay will also have to be the mom of the group because the other two morons don’t know what self preservation is. Pete’s grandma will be so happy that Pete has found such strong and beautiful boyfriend, she will start sending food to feed a small army claiming Porsche and Chay need to grow even stronger.

MacauChay - 7/10

Love them! I really do! But those little gremlins will kill each other if they date. I see why people ship them. They’re both from a broken family with only one brother to rely on. They’re both trapped in their circumstances and may find comfort and understanding in one another. They will absolutely hate each other at first, though.

ChanBig - 10/10

Did someone said Daddy Chan? I think we all saw that scene in ep1 and we collectively went - yep, they fuck. It’s the way Chan has all the power, the way Big doesn’t want to disappoint him. My daddy issues could never. It’s their power dynamic, it’s Big refusing to look at Chan’s eyes, it’s Chan being firm but gentle. I don’t need to say anything more, there are already amazingly slutty fanfics about them.

VegasTay - 10/10

This ship gets bonus points for the aesthetics alone, they are both gorgeously styled. I can see it happening as a one night stand. When Tay has finally had enough of Time’s bullshit, he goes to a club and sees Vegas there. Tay is ready to make some bad decisions. Vegas on the other hand has no idea what is happening, but one of Kinn’s best friends is flirting with him and he’ll be a fool to miss that opportunity. Vegas wrecks Tay’s world that night. Tay tells him he can leave marks. Vegas knows that his definition of “marks” is different from most so he controls himself. It will be so much more satisfying if Kinn’s friend does not regret this in the morning. Afterwards Tay tells the story of his shitty relationship and Vegas suggest murdering Time. Tay should have found that calm statement frightening, but he didn’t. He actually found it quite funny. Having his friend’s hot psycho cousin care more about his feelings than his actual boyfriend. Tay suggests doing that again, gathers his things and leaves. Vegas doesn’t know why he never told anybody about that night, maybe he forgot.

ArmKhun - 8/10

I’m taking points out because of the power imbalance and I’m giving points back because of the aesthetic. Diva Khun and Bodyguard Arm! Yes, give me more. The scene of them fighting the minor family with Arm’s car-bombs which were bedazzled in gems by Khun is what sealed the deal for me. They are an amazing team. Khun is such a fun and crazy character and I would like to see him in a more serious situation. What if he gets a gun pointed at him and goes into a ptsd episode while Arm has to be the best bodyguard and protect him but also later calm him down. The crack but also angst potential is astonishing.

KenBig - 6/10

Someone said they are the Mean Girls of KinnPorsche and it hasn’t left my mind since. Yes they are! Them just gossiping around and making everyone’s life miserable, love to see it. Don’t know if I can see them as something more serious than fuck buddies but I see the angst potential of both of them dying without knowing about what happened to the other.

ArmPorsche - 7/10

I’m seeing this starting as one sided love because notice how Arm looks at Porsche, that boy is in loooove! He was ready to go against his boss just to help Porsche. If Kinn was actually cheating on Porsche, those two boys would be game.

KinnPete - 6/10

Pretty sure this ship became famous after VegasPorsche left KinnPete in the dust in that alley. I can’t see this ship working, surprisingly because Kinn is a cinnamon roll when he’s in love and Pete is a psycho when he’s in love. But there is something really homoerotic about Kinn having trust issues and Pete being the only one he trust unconditionally. I can see it if the story takes a “dead dove do not eat” approach. With Porsche betraying Kinn and Kinn turning dark, and Vegas betraying Pete and Pete turning desperate.

Tankhun & Chess

Thought I’d make an additional post to address this fruitful question, @aprilblossomgirl (and @luckydragon10 you might find this interesting as well!). Thanks for mentioning it because I’ve had a lot of fun thinking about it! :) *Link to the original post: here.

Before I get into it, I’ll just mention the first part of your comment on the OG post: Kinn and Porsche are definitely opposite sides of a coin, and I think that’s what makes them so interesting as double protagonists. One comes from very little but leads a very emotionally satiating/optimistic lifestyle while the other comes from a lot but carries a lot of inner turmoil and emotional damage. They’re essentially opposites.

Ok, now onto the main topic.

Tankhun in the chess game

Tankhun is a bit difficult to place in the chess game because his power is not as clear-cut as Kinn’s or Korn’s. According to the general hierarchy of chess pieces, the rook would naturally fit between Kinn (the king) and Kim (the knight):

In chess, the rook is just under the queen in terms of power. Now, this makes sense to me for a few reasons, both of which relate to Kinn as the king piece. We know that, at the moment, Porsche holds the most sway in Kinn’s life. But we also know that Kinn cares deeply for Tankhun, as he demonstrated in the first few episodes (pleased that Porsche could get Tankhun out of the house, willing to buy Tankhun new carps, etc.). The queen and the rook are both fundamental in the life of a king (at least when it comes to chess).

Tankhun doesn’t seem very powerful, but I think he holds a lot more sway than we think. And, like how the queen plays a monumental role in defending her king, Tankhun is devoted to protecting Kinn and pointing him in the right direction. He doesn’t want to trust Tawan because he knows that Tawan betrayed the family, and Kinn, in the past. He also doesn’t believe that Porsche is a traitor. It doesn’t necessarily matter in this instance, but I’d like to note that I think Tankhun knows the relationship between Kinn and Porsche. He’s more observant than others give him credit for, and though he’s a bit erratic, he’s still got a sharp mind. This makes him a unique protector of the king.

When it comes to the actual capabilities of the rook piece, a rook can move in all directions (like a queen) EXCEPT diagonally; this is what cements it as one step below in the hierarchy. Where things get dicey is when we think about the hierarchy in terms of mafia power versus the power to manipulate the playing field—i.e., the power Porsche has. Korn is most powerful in a mafia sense (and as the player in the chess metaphor, he’s the one giving all the pieces meaning), but we know Porsche is the most powerful in a more objective sense. In this case, I think Porsche is so powerful because Kinn has developed such a strong attachment to him. Again, it’s easy to get in the weeds on this metaphor, but at its most basic, I think Porsche holds a lot of power because of the way he lives his life: freely. His freedom of thought and spirit is what Kinn adores/craves, and it’s what elevates Porsche’s power that much more. It also feeds into the “us against the world” idea because Kinn and Porsche give each other strength. Kinn was afraid of Porsche (…and still is, as evidenced by his hesitation to admit his love), but the greater theme seems to be that love isn’t a weakness. We’re still working to a full resolution of this idea.

I’m getting off topic a bit, but I want to reiterate that I think the chain of command is necessarily muddled/messy because control is so dependent on the bonds formed between these characters. That’s what makes KP such a deeply personal show, despite how it might look from the outside.

So, all of this is a long way of saying that I think Tankhun is a rook. He’s quietly powerful, not as notorious as a queen piece, but still offering helpful input. Yet again, I have gone on a wild chess rant, so please let me know your thoughts on the organization of each piece in this metaphor. :)

Uncle Porsche, absolutely not. I would’ve punched you into oblivion but clearly Porsche has more self control than I do.

Kim. Get your act together. Also, why is this the first we’re seeing him actually attend this school lmao. Like idk I just kind of forgot he was even a student at all. Love that for you babes. Juggling between stalking the love of your life, mafioso living, being a pretty well known superstar and attending THE music institue must be hard. Doesn’t give you a reason to treat Chay like trash. You suck today. 4/10

Kinnporsche. Boyfriends that plot murders together, stay together. The lovey dovey stuff is still cute, but it probably won’t last much longer…uncle Porsche and Chessboard Daddy are here to crash the honeymoon party right on time… ANYWAYS they love each other so much it kinda hurts 😩.

Porsche with them trust issues again. Like I get it. But Kinn wouldn’t do anything to hurt you baby. And I find it really funny that Kinn’s been the one vocalizing that he finds it hard to trust people, yet he’s more trusting than Porsche seems to be.

PETE PETE PETE PETE PETE PETE. I can’t even express how much I love this guy anymore, like the words aren’t wording. He is that guy. He really looked a crazy man in the eyes, called him a psycho then proceeded to allow him to get even crazier. Love that for you babes. Like really.

Vegas is such a sad character, like I don’t personally sympathize with him cuz he’s kind of awful and hasn’t done anything fully redeeming yet but gosh he’s one troubled soul. Poor kiddo. No one should have to lose people the way he has his entire life because of things so completely out of his control.

VEGAS X PETE. I honestly wasn’t here for it at first because of Vegas being shit and Pete being an Angel but girlllllllll the way these past few weeks have had me in a chokehold. Vegas thinks he’s the ring leader, but Pete is the puppet master bro. Pete being the reason we got ALL of the beautiful moments this episode…he carried hard and he deserves a good back massage when he gets back to the main house.

I miss Khun. I miss him so so so much. I miss his little movie nights and his absurd outfits that somehow worked. I miss his hysterics and his dynamic with Porsche and Pete. I can only hope for some Tankhun x Chay moments because I miss my subtly wise older brother 😭😭😭

KimChay Thoughts (Plus Tankhun)

I'm gonna make like one more post and shut up but like-

It was hella obvious that Kim's indifference to Chay was faked. Him scratching his forehead to give a affect of indifference/annoyance was enough of a sign but him saying "Otherwise, why would I tutor you?"!?!?

Chay hasn't been in this world long enough to know that what is said is just as important as what isn't being said. Kim admits that he tutored Chay because of who his brother was but he makes no mention of what happened after the tutoring- the kiss after his confession, the sweet moment on the couch.

Kim's a liar and a good one, because he knows his limits. He knows he's not gonna be able to deny what he feels for Chay now, so he admits to his motives back then and depends on Chay assuming that it all was an act.

It's even more obvious that he's gone for this boy when Chay asks him directly if he ever loved him and he can't bring himself to lie, only to apologize.

As for Tankhun, we know that he knew that Porchay didn't know who Kim was. Why else would he have mentioned that Kim was nosy if not to indirectly tell Chay that that's the real reason Kim was with him? But how did he find out? And what did he hope to gain from that? From telling Porchay how he raised his little brothers (Did he? Fanfiction fodder!) to him saying "Trust me and it'll all be good?" Does he really consider Porschay a little brother? Does he doubt Kim's intentions? Did he know that Kim was likely planning to slide out of Porchay's life thinking he just straight up ghosted him (which begs the question of how did Kim plan on doing that? I guess he just felt he'd avoid the mansion forever?)

Like who has a hidden agenda in the house (when we know Korn knows something about the deaths of their parents) and who doesn't? How much does Tankhun know and to what extent should Chay trust Tankhun?

And I have so many questions about the dynamic between Kim and his brothers and their respective goals. I hope Kim confronts Tankhun (or vise versa) because I'm just itching for what's gonna get revealed in the conversation.
