My friend, who is reading MTME for the first time, said that their favorites are Tarn and Overlord and I responded to that “Okay Cuppajj” and then after a second they went “TGE COOKIERUN FANARTIST?!?!”

I have been following you because of Essek and I just found out that you've drawn Starscream in the past! I didn't know you were into the IDW Transformers comics. A little shook that we share more than one interest and favourite character (is he your favourite?) lol 😂

Oh Starscream has been blorbo since I watched Armada as a 11 year old. I read the IDW comics much later and really enjoyed them. Loved MTME the most! Not into any of the new animations cuz they are too childish for me (that's fine though, I'm just not the target audience), although I enjoyed Animated as a kid. I think I had a crush on Blackarachnia in Animated, but I wasn't aware of my homosexual tendencies yet back then lmAO.... I think Starscream's femme clone (was it Slipstream??) also made me feel things... 😳.

My fav bots are probably uuuuh Starscream, Whirl, Cyclonus, Thundercracker, Chromia, Rodimus, Tarn and uuuuh probably a bunch of others that I can't think of at the moment. I hope the new reboot will be good cuz I really really really couldn't get into IDW2... It felt so odd lore-wise and unemotional... 🫣 The art was pretty tho!

So I think JRo intentionally wrote religion poorly. It felt like one of the themes of MTME was to dis on religion.

Even Cyclonus is a fool at the end because the Guiding Hand are just mechs and one still wants to kill you. His faith in the Allspark is weaponized against him on Meredi.

Cyberutopia is a lie. Drift’s faith is a joke. On Necroworld, Skids even compares religion to a disease he’s been cured of. He loses his faith because of Tarn and sees it as growth.

Nightbeat is the best religious character. Just because Censere doesn’t have the answers, just because he’s a mortal, doesn’t mean Nightbeat’s faith is wrong. And JRo killed him on Meredi.

In the last salty asks post I unintentionally went on a tangent in the notes about how JRO wrote religious characters which is like actually something I want to bring up on its own so like

Is it just me or does JRO have some real misses when it comes to writing religious characters? Not like every religious character is badly written or evil, but like... several of the ones that are fall into really bad or unflattering/shallow stereotypes? It's hard to put my finger exactly on why I feel that way bc he does write some actually good religious characters (aka Cyclonus).

For example, characters like the Functionist Council and Star Saber are fine to me because I'm like. Well Functionism being religious in origin makes sense, it's an interesting interplay of how religion influences the state/how the state leverages religion to bend the populace to its own whims. Religious bad guys =/= all religious people bad. Star Saber is just some random zealot that wasn't meant to be that deep at all, and eh the Inquisition-type religious zealot can be cool even if it's just the vibes of it.

But then there's stuff like... Tyrest being a normal, rational, not particularly religious guy until he gets shot with a bullet that gives him brain damage, causing him to start ranting about Cyberutopia and thinking God is personally talking to him in his brain...? Like, idk, was it really the best idea for an antagonist to go "he is evil because he got brain damaged against his will w/o even knowing what really happened to him and also because he's brain damaged he's now literally delusional and became a religious (and genocidal) maniac." It comes off as really bad taste/not thinking the implications through as far as how it reflects on religious people (bc the whole "religious people are literally delusional and stupid to think that their gods could possibly exist" thing is tired and offensive). Not to mention kind of ableist w/ the whole "oh he became evil bc he got shot in the brain and now there's literally something wrong with his mind."

(Doesn't help that the MTMTE logbooks revealed that the original idea for Tyrest was to have his killswitch be about trying to identify and execute all of the criminals/"guilty people" on Cybertron, basically an extension of his role as Chief Justice which makes so much more sense and is way more interesting and compelling???? Certainly better than (gets brain damaged) "Ah I'm now going to genocide all cold constructs because God told me to")

And then Drift with spectralism which...which... basically the extent of that whole religion is the name of a single festival (the Lost Light festival the eponymous ship was named after), and some stuff about face/body paint and colors having spiritual symbolism, then the Guiding Hand/Primus stuff that's also shared with Primalism. But then you have Drift who's the main representative of this religion basically being written as a phony who doesn't even believe in the shit coming out of his mouth. Or if his beliefs are sincere, the way he acts is basically just "oooooh, I sense unclean vibes and read into the energy of the universe" which is played for laughs or mocked by the other characters most of the time. And Drift's character is written so inconsistently (and the general religious worldbuilding so one-dimensional) that it's hard to tell if Drift is supposed to be read as some kooky fake hippie type or if he's genuinely a representation of Spectralism in general. Like, idk, the best JRO could come up for for building a religion was "they wear certain colors and patterns on them and vaguely talk about sensing energy from the universe?" It literally feels like baby's first fictional religion or like, religion as understood by a non-religious/atheist person who sees religion as nothing more than an aesthetic or some quirky rituals.

I'm not saying the story had to be about religion or have religion be brought up in every conversation, it's just...... the way he wrote/did worldbuilding for it comes off as as very "non-religious person who doesn't have any particular understanding of religion/why people are religious tries to write what they think religion is about" and most of the time it's kinda cringe.

25 Days of MTMTE Christmas, Part 15, Christmas Song

Who would think a simple song could be so twisted?

After you had been taken by the Decepticon Justice Division, Tarn had gifted you with a new datapad. Tarn thought that you should learn the history and philosophy of the Decepticons by reading Megatron's Towards Peace. When you had told the purple Con that you couldn't read Cybertronian, you were hoping that he would leave it at that, but no, he went and had it translated to English. Gee, thanks Tarn. You had managed to avoid reading the it for a while, but now that you were a part of the DJD, or a mascot as Tesaurus called you, you couldn't put it off any longer. It wasn't as bad as you were expecting. Megatron appeared to truly care about this Terminus person. You became more and more invested in Towards Peace as time passed. You were actually so into it that you didn't notice the doors to the common area opening as the self-titled soldiers of righteousness returned from yet another hunt. "Ah, there you are!" Tarn exclaimed as he approached you. You managed to raise your head before Tarn suddenly ruffled your hair like you were some kind of a pet. Well, you kinda were, but not like The Pet. You actually could hold a decent conversation with these messed-up murderers. "You humans may be one of the most inferior organic species, but my, was I surprised and not to mention pleased to finally hear that you have converted to the Decepticon cause!” He crooned deeply from his chassis. You knew that you were immune to his voice that could easily kill a Cybertronian, but damn if it didn't make you shiver. Wait. What was he talking about? "Wait, what do you mean?" "Oh don't act coy, my little songbird! I heard you singing about us and our sacred mission yesterday! And now you're finally reading Towards Peace...! You're obviously devoted to us and our cause!" "Wait, Tarn, what song did you hear?" You asked, perplexed beyond belief. He grinned behind his mask, and told you everything that had occurred while they were gone... The traitor was trying to outrun their hunters, but a few well-aimed shots through their tires made it impossible for them to transform and escape. The mech tried to hide in the shadows of the wrecked spaceship's halls. For a moment they thought they were safe... until they heard it. It started off barely perceptible to the audial. A hum buzzed in the air, followed by whispers, and the traitor's legs wobbled dangerously as the fear immobilized them. You better watch out You better not cry You better not pout I'm telling you why DJD is coming to town The mech's legs gave out, and the pain in their chassis grew as the singing grew louder. We're making a list We're checking it twice We're gonna find out who's naughty or nice DJD is coming to town We see you when you're sleeping And we know when you're awake We know if you've been bad or good So be good for goodness sake The mech desperately tried to crawl to safety, but it was too late. A ped slammed down on their back, crushing them against the cold hard floor. The Decepticon Justice Division had them surrounded. "M- Mercy!" The mech pleaded, but their prayers were futile. When DJD had their target, they never let them go. "And that is how we caught the traitor!" Tarn said. Your blood was cold from the thought of an innocent Christmas carol being mutilated into this chilling nightmare-fueled song. You realized that you had more power over the murderous giant robots than you thought. This much power came with a huge responsibility. "Tarn,” you said to catch your feared leader's attention. "What is it, my little songbird?" "I want something." Tarn blinked behind his mask. "Well, usually I would have you fill in the request form to apply for an accommodation... But as you have been so well behaved lately, I'm willing to take your request personally, here and now. What do you want?" "I want my own room!" It was no secret that you didn't have your own room. You had to share a mattress with The Pet and as much as that thing loved you, you didn't love the way it drooled all over you. Also, it was hard to fall asleep when Kaon was staring at you - even if he didn't have any optics to stare with...  Tarn's optics focused on you, and you started to sweat, but you wouldn't budge. "On one condition!" He warned. You stilled before nodding. "Anything." "You must sing whenever I want, and sing for as long as I desire." "Deal!" Screw responsibility, you were getting your own room!

Idea: Human songbird with not one, but TWO Decepticon insignia tattoos, one on their chest or collarbone, and one in-between their shoulder blades. AND they have a tattoo sleeve on both arms to represent Tarn's dual fusion cannons. Heck it, they have tats all over their body, really intricate ones too, with little details meant to represent the design elements and weapons of each of the DJD members. Maybe they have facial tattoos meant to represent Helex's eye markings or Tess's optic band. >:3c

And if that weren’t enough, a modified version of the pattern of Tarn’s mask would make a really good bodice for a dress. Also!! Hooman having tats on their leggies and wearing a dress with a really sheer skirt to show them off!!! (Not a request, only an idea. Should’ve made it clear from the beginning).

Oooooh!  I can totally see them doing that!  So deliciously creepy!  XD

-their dates are hunting and torturing the unfortunate bot that pisses them off especially the one that pisses of someone calm and composed like tarn. (even better if it's a homophobe)

-overlord loves to smacks tarns aft i am not even joking...'babe you lowkey lookin thick'💀

-y'all seen the pic where lesbians keep mascara on their gfs eye? tarns biggest love language is keeping overlord lipstick while being on top of his chasis

-they have pets...lots of pet...especially cats or birds

-overlord really does respect tarns boundary... jokes aside, he knows when his lover is truly irritated or upset

-these two are just pucci and dio all over just imagine if pucci was devoted to somebody else! overlord is slutty sure but he isn't afraid to give wise advice to tarn whenever he is in need of it

-tarn is often seeing wearing a locket with overlords name on it when he turns into his holoavatar

-overlord often teases tarn for his size and just to kiss him he picks up the bot, pins him to wall and gives kisses to him

-tarn likes to sing for overlord (it's canon it won't outright kill overlord but hurt him) overlord loves his singing so sometimes he demands it without the mask

-tarn loves to be choked by his strong arms, i am not even kidding.

-overlord fucking loves it when tarn pulls him around by his helm horns whether it be playfully or sexually.

-height difference is wild here and overlord goes all out without stopping until tarn demands him to.

-overlord reminds tarn that he belongs to him now not megatron. (bro cannot say i love you)

Death/tarn

-deathsaurus is the rough dominating one here no questions...he can intimidate tarn just by towering over him and tarn loves it...drives him wild.

-deathsaurus spoils him rotten and buys him everything one way he is the sugar daddy boyfriend but tarn outright avoids it and suggest him to not waste money on him. (deathsaurus doesn't listen)

-tarn loves to draw deathsaurus portraits and many cryptic one's at that...often showing him ghostly beautiful

-deathsaurus gifted him the most beautiful cybertronian tigers skull as a present, his way of showing love

-the height difference oh boy....it just makes you wonder how tarn handles him.

-deathsaurus often leaves love marks on the djd leader for others to see....sometimes it's without his knowledge until by end of day he looks behind with help of mirror and sees scratch marks

-tarn loves to trace his fingers on the scars and deathsaurus traces on his face...it's their love language

-deathsaurus might not show it but he worried for tarn and his mental health...it's canon tarn hurts himself and his face wound is never fully fixed because he always claws on it, so deathsaurus puts it to stop if he walks in on him doing it.

-their kisses are very passionate and deathsaurus puts his dragon like tongue to good use.

-he reminds tarn that he no longer is in wicked clutches of megatron and to him tarn is much more without the mask.

-deathsaurus and tarn both get judged for dating but they don't care....tarn ignores them but death gets rid of them
