I feel like it’s not an exact fit, but there’s some parallel to be drawn between John-Augustine-Mercymorn and Coriolanus-Sejanus-Lucy Gray. Something about pushing people away the people who love you through lies.

Both of them knowing better than others about how systems oppress people but still choosing to support the Capitol/create an empire and impose the same hardships they endured (and even worse) on others

Snow continuing The Hunger Games long after the First Rebellion (on so many children who were born after that war) and John’s millennia long vendetta

I truly do believe (and I’m pretty sure I’ve mentioned this before) but The Locked Tomb’s whole love changes you for better or worse (it’s finished, it’s done. You can’t take loved away.) theme goes really well with tbosas. I’m genuinely surprised more people don’t try to draw more parallels between the two, but also idk how much overlap there is between the fandoms.

(Sometimes, I entertain a tbosas necro/cav au… it’s not at all fleshed out, and I play with different scenarios that aren’t fixed. It’s also predictably Ravinstill forward)

ADMINISTRATIVE UPDATE (aka spoiler-tagging update)

we are very very close to a big big day for pjo!!!! you know what that means!!! updates on spoiler tagging!! (plus some non-pjo stuff at the end!)

from here on out:

i will tag all tv show content with 'pjotv'

once i've seen the first two episodes, i will begin tagging all references to anything that has not been in trailers with 'pjotv spoilers'. haven't decided yet how long i'll tag spoilers, but i'll definitely make an announcement before i stop.

once the first episode of the show is released, i'm thinking about tagging all pjo/hoo spoilers beyond however far the show has caught up to as 'pjo book spoilers' for people who are watching the show and haven't read the books (e.g. for posts discussing later books and whatnot). i do already and plan to continue tagging discussion of specific books with the acronym for the title (tlt, som, ttc, botl, tlo, tlh, son, moa, hoh, boo, cotg; plus pjo for the first series and hoo for the second series; toa if i ever post anything trials of apollo, but i've only read book one, so that's mostly moot), but some things are more general, like character arcs. would anyone who follows me be interested in a broader pjo book spoilers tag like this? if so, lmk--drop me a reply here, a dm, an anon ask, whatever :)

in the future, assuming more seasons, i'll probably come up with special tags for pjotv s2 and pjotv s2 spoilers and whatnot, but for now we're going to keep it more general.

Katniss Everdeen: The Mockingjay

Creator Notes:

Tumblr ate my long ramble about stuff, but here is a more abbreviated version of what it said. This webweaving and the last one paralleling Katniss and Snow as defined in some ways by their actions. Obviously, the two chose to act very differently, but I like how it emphasizes the importance of agency.

Also this doesn't quite capture the dehumanizing nature of becoming a symbol (an attempt was made: 3rd quote and only showing Katniss' face once), but it does focus more on becoming a symbol/message making you larger than life. You are the message, so your actions are the message. Still, Katniss' choices and actions led to people choosing her as a symbol of the ideals of the rebellion.

Did any of that make sense? I'm unsure. This is much simpler than my last webweave, but it's been rotating around in my brain for a while!

hi!! i saw your post on every character dynamic you like you make codependent and i was curious what the different flavours of codependency are? (eg: one-sided, homoerotic etc)

Hi! Thanks for the ask I've been learning recently that I'm kind of bad at dividing things into different typologies. In my head, it's like one-sided, obsessive, or varying degrees of functional. The finer degrees of difference can come from the individual dynamic of the individuals in the relationship themselves (either romantic, platonic, or secret third thing lol). I guess relationships can also shift between those three types. <- Sorry, I'm not very good at coming up with more flavors haha

For me, I guess, the reason that I like codependency (perhaps there is a better word for the range of dynamics that I am about to describe, but I just don't know it) is that I like dynamics where identity gets weird. Like the boundary of who you are gets blurred with another person (or people... Festixia...). In my head, Coriolanus-Sejanus is of like this (I think Coriolanus-Lucy Gray could get there too, but Snowjanus identity cannibalism waterboarded me in the face in the epilogue, although to me, it was there from the beginning). Coriolanus-Felix has that charm to me. (Something about how they could see who they should have been in each other. Capable politician-born adjacent to power and raised in the lap of luxury).

It's people seeing someone and going that's me (or who I should be)! Sometimes, it manifests as "their hurt is my hurt" to "attack them is to attack me." It can manifest in intense jealousy. Sometimes, it's you could never betray me, because I want what you want. Sometimes, a relationship going wrong has you questioning your entire being. You yourself are unstitched and unraveling with it. Again, the specific manifestation of the nuances of the dynamic depend on the characters.

(I'm kind of a of course the relationships in our lives change and define us all, but the codependency I find the most interesting is taking that to its most heightened extremes.)

Because I am now thinking about my good friends Max and Volumnia, I need to self-indulgently say that I don't know if it really suits her if we get down to the nitty gritty, but I always associate her with Alecto (tlt)'s "that is how meat loves meat"

Context:

though blood fell from her lips and tongue, and she was wounded sore. For Alecto knew not how to kiss, except such as it involved the mouth and teeth. And Alecto said to her, Why are you not appeased? That is how meat loves meat. (Nona the Ninth, Epilogue)

Unsure if anyone has ever thought of a TBOSAS Locked Tomb AU, but I do think that Coriolanus Snow and Sejanus Plinth could be really interesting to explore as a Necromancer/Cavalier pair, especially one that ascends to Lyctorhood.

(I will say that casting the Capitol Mentors as Necromancers and their assigned Tributes as Cavaliers would also be fascinating, especially intrigued to see/explore who would fail to ascend and who would refuse to in that scenario.)

IDK how such a crossover would really work from a worldbuilding standpoint. Like you could have Panem just with Necromancers and Cavs added on or you could make Panem into the Nine Houses. I'm just word vomiting random thoughts.

A few points of interest that I've thought up for Coriolanus-Sejanus Necro-Cav pair:

What would be really delicious to explore would be the irreversible entanglement and enmeshment that happens in the whole process.

Coriolanus would have a very Ianthe response to the soul permeability. He would be horrified to learn that his own soul is being "tainted" by someone else's soul (let alone someone District). The fact that in the pursuit of power, Coriolanus makes Sejanus a part of himself (and if we go with callsign convention of Harrow the Ninth, he has to go by Coriolanus Sejanus instead of Coriolanus Snow!)

That absorbing Sejanus' soul would have Sejanus bleed into him would actually bring out Coriolanus' empathy. Something that Coriolanus would hate, but also that empathy would make him feel a loathing for all his self-serving and selfish actions and thoughts (when all that empathy comes too late). He'd be in the self-loathing nexus!

Of course, there are obvious parallels to Coriolanus being responsible for Sejanus' death and then inheriting his family's fortune (which helps propel him on his way to power) to Necromancers killing and cannibalizing the soul of their Cav into a battery to exponentially increase their power

ALSO Coriolanus having his father's eyes is really emphasized in the book, but ascension would give him Sejanus' eyes instead! The symbolism alone of losing that particular physical trait!

I also like continuing the tradition of the OG Lyctors getting epithets for their Cavs that ironically don't match the Necromancer at all, so it would be cool to incorperate that. Coriolanus Sejanus gets to be the Saint of Righteousness obviously.

I think having Coriolanus Snow interact with any of the 'love irreversibly changes you for better or worse' themes in The Locked Tomb would make him implode and therefore would be fun. "It's finished. It's done. You can't take loved away" would have killed him dead.

posted short (~2k word) TLT-TBOSAS fusion au fic (celebratory and self-indulgent in honor of the celebratory and self-indulgent 100,000 words of fic I wrote this year before it lol) starring Felix, Festus, and Max (Pres. Ravinstill). If you haven't read The Locked Tomb series, that's fine! It's not really necessary to understand what is happening (maybe not knowing much going in adds to the tension?) but if you want to read about TLT completely blind, then you might have to skip this one (by necessity of fusions there is some light/ implied spoilers)
