Truly a horrible yet amazing highlight of how no matter you try to make tradition look pretty or modern it's still the same traditions that barred women from going to school or even voting. This notion of being a "stay-at-home" mom, dad, or partner is one rooted in the bourgeois as only the upper and middle class have this luxury, working class people must work regardless of their child's needs just to put food on the table and pay rent. This has happened before in the 60s, we can't and shouldn't accept this no matter what.

Thinking about the Korean word for Teacher (선생 / 先生 / seonsaeng) comes from the characters 先 (before) and 生 (life) meaning someone born before me.
And how there is such trust in that statement. I trust that the person born before me has lived their life thoughtfully. I trust that this person has carefully considered things. I trust they have wisdom that I don't have, all because of their years.
And thinking about how not everyone I know is deserving of that trust.
And thinking how I hope to be trustworthy for my students and that my years are enough to be wise.

It’s so interesting watching expat YouTube and noticing that if they stay in the country more than like 3 years they start subtly morphing more into that cultures standard of beauty
#checking in on some my fave girls who’ve been teaching in Korea since like 2013#can barely recognize some of them like whoa

Teaching English Abroad
So, I have been meaning to post this for some time. I guess hence the reason why I have created this account. Now, just to put this out there, this is my OWN personal intake on my experience living and teaching abroad. This is for those who do have an inkling to teach abroad, or want to gain some information on what it is like teaching abroad. Take this as you will, but I am laying out what I have been through teaching in a different country. This post will be put into two sections. This will be my first post. The second will be posted in a later post.
I first moved to Korea to teach English in February of 2023. Now, I always wanted to come to this country since my high school days. Yes, I am one of those who started off listening to K-Pop. I have lived in Korea for almost two years now, and I will move back to the States sometime in the early weeks of March. Shocking? Maybe to some, but not to others.
Now people will ask, why the sudden change of heart? Well, lets go back in February 2023. I moved to Korea for the first time, not knowing what to fully expect. Keep in mind, NEVER EVER have any high expectations on your English teaching job or the country itself. Witnessed a friend who had that type of mindset, and she did a midnight run back to the States in the middle of her contract. I did an interview with EPIK, and was able pass that. Paper works, visa, background check, all of that took soo much time. Also took majority of my paycheck. Anyways, you can choose where you want to be placed in Korea; but, it is their decision on where they will place you. *Keep in mind, you would need a TEFL certificate to send as well.*
I was placed in Busan, at least the 2nd biggest city in South Korea. Loved every minute of it. Met wonderful friends who I was able to get connected to, and gained wonderful co-teachers who have taught me so much on how to be a teacher. Now, I was lucky enough to be placed in a school with teachers who were so welcoming and helpful. That however, was just my first year here.
I have read and heard many stories of co-teachers who are just crazy to work with, and their dynamic relationship of co-teaching with them just did not work out. The following year, 2024, I decided to renew my contract and thinking it will be a good year; new co-teachers, since three of my old co-teachers left, kids moving up grades, and just my work dynamic will be either similar or different (thinking as a GOOD different). Well, oh how wrong I was.
*Part 2 will be put up*

▸▸ [ @tunichtgxt ( sungho ) || date thread starter ]
─「차해인」─ " you don't have to go through with this, really. i know i might not be what you might expected. " the HUNTER couldn't bring herself to meet his eyes properly, especially when this was a blind date being set up by their mutual friends. hae-in was never the socializing type. despite her seemingly cool demeanor, she was actually quite AWKWARD when it comes to meeting or bonding with new people. all she knew was fighting, after all.
" i'm not ... very good with new people. so i'd understand if you want to cancel, i won't hold it against you. " only a few close friends she had even know that she was not as confident as she'd appear in fights, so if he had that as the first impression of her, it'd be a disappointment, this meeting.
#tunichtgxt#.ignition#.[ cha.hae–in ]#[ places this onto your lap#hehe i thought these two would hit it off !#I'M THINKING A SORT OF MIXED SETTING WITH HER CANON SINCE IT'S MODERN FANTASY IN KOREA#and she's called the dancer X33 she's super strong but very awkward socially#pLS TEACH HER TO BOND W/ PPL SUNGHO ! ]

Job update ☁️:

So I originally posted on my story about applying to EPIK, but in the end I decided it wasn’t the right fit for me housing wise 😬 so I started to look into other options !
I decided to contact a load of recruiters whilst I waited for my application result to come back (I still haven’t heard anything) and since I showed interest quite early, I didn’t actually expect much - BUT! I ended up weeding through some offers and eventually agreed to interview with one that I’d liked the sound of.
I did some v important deep diving the night before my interview, and I found nothing but positive comments! - especially from the parents who send their children to the school - and it really gave me such good vibes!! (I also found their Instagram and it was v cute 🤭 lmaoo)
Fast forward to the interview, and it was so nice !! The people I spoke to felt warm, and I could tell that our teaching philosophies matched well. On top of that, the work life and curriculum style seemed really good (I’m excited to do a cooking class lmaoo) and I was also able to speak to an English teacher that’s currently working there, and it was really helpful to hear her experiences and insight into things !
After the interview, I exchanged a few texts with the school director, which made everything feel even more friendly ☺️ and not long later, I got a message from my recruiter letting me know that I’d been offered the job!
When the contract had been sent over, my boyfriend and I both read through it (since it was written in English and Korean) and after a couple amendments were made, I decided to sign !!
My start date is September 1st, but I’m looking to head over there in mid-August so I can settle in ! The school also provides me with 5 days of paid training - which is RARE - so it’ll feel good going into the job feeling prepared !
I’m soo excited (and a little nervous lmao) for the next chapter of my life !! Especially since it’ll be taking place in the city of bread 🤭🍞🥖🥐🥯🥨!
