I should not have to keep batting away apps that my Roku has decided to just add to my collection and now it's pushing sports and live tv in my face? Instead of the apps I actually arranged in the order I want on my Home Screen??

Like I did go into the settings and recommendations and live tv and sports were all off they were all on hidden but no makes way more sense to have to go into all of them and click show and click hide again

Fuck remember when you could use your tv without it being hell? I specifically don't have a "smart" tv so my tv doesn't do this but now the roku is doing it. Even tho it kinda sucked after a decade I miss the old roku I had because it COULDNT update wirelessly. It literally didn't know anything past the year it was made

So generative AI is fucking bullshit, and I initially thought it was just going to fade away like its NFT brethren but clearly not, SO I've been busy

I spent about a year working on this zine about all the ways that current AI tech is undermining the arts, contributing to climate collapse, stealing our data, and just being all around shit.

I wrote a lot about my personal opinions on the subject and included quotes from writers, academic studies, and other creatives, as well as artworks from artists I admire, who I contacted for their permission beforehand. Because it TURNS OUT asking people for PERMISSION is the respectful thing to do????????? Who'd have known... 💀

The rest of the images were either made by me or were from the public domain (not fucken "publicly available" like OpenAI like to say 🤪).

It's been really fun connecting with people about this subject and seeing people speak out more and more about how fucked AI is. Because as much as tech bros like to say that AI is an "inevitable" tech advancement that we can't take back, that doesn't change the fact that we still can and should be regulating the HELL out of it.

The whole thing about AI is so fucking annoying, disheartening and straight-up depressing. No place is safe from all of the ai and tech bullshit.

And what options do artists have? What options do I personally have?

Glaze and Nightshade everything? I personally don't have the time or GPU power to glaze billions of artworks that I made. Fucking imagine you make a quick-ish sketch and spend 40 minutes glazing it (and don't get me started on some results of that process looking like the artwork went through 9 circles of bitcrushing hell based on how artifacted it looks)

Put everything I make behind a paywall? I for sure know that only a super small fraction would pay to see whatever I draw, the rest would just not care (either for some personal/general reasons or because people are also having a financial crisis 'cause, girlie, same)

Not post at all? I guess so.

I'm so fucking sick and tired of moving from website to website, trying to have a normal place to post art on and also have a community of people to interact with but time and time AGAIN it all just goes to shit. I wish there was some way to just ban all of these shitty ai things from existing or being developed. Stop treating us artists as some fucking cow you can milk for content and then can just slaughter when we are no longer useful. Fuck AI and fuck harmful tech shit.

i hate when people make their opinion on ai to be either it’s the best thing the human race has ever invented or the thing that will kill humans and their creativity when it’s so obviously neither. trying to idolize it will make it impossible for creatives to strive and trying to fully ban it will send us moving backwards.

i always think of ai the same way you’d think of calculators. in the math community, lots of people thought calculators would make it so no one would ever use math again, when obviously that’s not true. think about how you use one in class: helps with the mundane, simple equations, or the ones that take too much time to do by hand when you’re in a scenario where you need numbers fast. you still learn how to do it the mechanical way, you still have to know how to calculate by hand, but after you’ve mastered all that, the calculator will be able to do it for you when you don’t what to. this notion goes further when discussing testing, as harder sections of tests usually are the only parts that allow calculators of any kind. of course, you can use a calculator to its fullest and find the answer to virtually any math problem you’d need to, but most of us don’t, right? i believe that ai can be used in this same way, since it’s already been so integrated within our lives.

now i’m in no way saying that we should accept it completely with open arms, and of course i recognize that it has a lot more power than a standard calculator, the important thing to take away from its emergence is moderation. it’s clearly not going to go away any time soon so the best thing to do is to use it in small doses for minimal tasks. i for one use it almost every day, but solely for things like generating practice problems for chemistry or language review worksheets. it’s truly ALL about how you are using the tool. when it’s writing full papers or generating artwork, it’s a whole different story, but it can be used in ways that improve ourselves without making us less intelligent or driven.

i’d love to live in a world where ai never existed but as it’s getting implemented into school curriculums and every social media platform is making their own ai bot i think people need to be aware about the ethical ways you yourself can use ai. i am no supporter but i am just thinking realistically. no it will not take over our lives, no it will not cause the death of creativity, because as long as we are alive that will be alive. both glorifying it and making it into a supervillain will make no progress. i’m not telling anyone to support my perspective, just take some time to think about how ai could be put to use in society in an ethical way, not to replace humans, but to better ourselves.

i got like the most annoying comic recommended to me on insta yesterday it pits a strawman "programmer" using ai art with glee against the humble noble "artist" expressing displeasure with it and Smartly ☝️🤓 pointing out that ai could take over Both their jobs. which ofc sends the "programmer" into a hysterical rage. im using quotes bc those were literally the labels they used in the comic. The Evil Programmer lol. this is the ~art~ we're insisting is worth preserving bc computers lack a soul or whatever?
