I think it's funny for people to assume the techies know what all the buttons do. Sure, we know what a lot of them do. We know enough to do our job. But, I've never met someone who knows what ALL the buttons do.

I love going off the face of the planet for a month because I've had three shows to design in a row.

One a week for the past three weeks this month (essentially two 60hr unpaid work weeks and one lightly paid work week).

Anyways, we open this week's show tomorrow night! Super fun.

Oh, and then I have a FOURTH show to design next week. And then a week to finish and turn in homework and then the end of the school year.

my bad for the personal post, but gotta ask, (so pls respond if u see this 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏) is it normal/expected for the compere to thank the tech crew (or the techies individually if it's just a few) once the event is over??? it happened for the first time (other than the usual like... scripted one in every music concert that I personally don't think counts) tonight and I got thanked BY NAME for doing sound... I've been doing this since 2022, and there's maybe a chance it's happened before, but I doubt it

Run Crew doesn’t get enough respect

For those who don’t know, Run Crew is a part of the technical aspects of theatre. Typically, they put set pieces on and off stage, assist with getting props to the actors, and sometimes help with quick changes if needed. They have to do all of this without being seen.

Run Crew isn’t a position that is recognized enough and when I’d tell people what I’m on they wouldn’t necessarily respect me because it’s a “small role”. Run Crew only gets respect from other theatre kids. I don’t know why I made this, but I just couldn’t stop thinking about it.

I think my favorite thing about lighting for shows is that when we program light cues we have one labelled "Full". However, the lights are not full. There are multiple lights that are near off. There is never such thing as lights being fully on. And it's my favorite thing
