WELL since u asked i have no other option do i ^_^

i've been thinking a lot about this recently bc in the past i've said that i think he + the tiredtwt crew are from hypixel itself, with hypixel being like an alien planet to fit with him being an alien, but the more i think about it the less sense it makes. for me, hypixel is more like one of those fun centers that offers a Bunch of different activities. like i have one in my hometown that has a bowling alley + arcade + escape rooms + go karting + jungle gyms + a bunch of other shit. that's hypixel to me, but on a Much Bigger scale. having anyone Originate from it is a bit silly when you think about it as one of those. it makes even less sense when you consider that like, canonically, cboomer is from a Completely Different Dimension. so what i've decided is that yes, he Is from an alien planet, but not someplace that connects to a real-life server, yknow? it also gives me more flexibility to worldbuild his planet's culture and stuff since i don't have to be tied down to hypixel customs.

a slight tiredtwt-related detour BUT it is important to me to lay this out. purpled and astelic are from the same planet but didn't meet until hypixel. hannah and boomer are from the same dimension which is somewhat akin to the feywilds from dnd. originally all of them just came to hypixel to play together and would have to eventually split to return to their own servers/origins until they were like "what if we just had our own server so we didn't have to keep splitting up every night" and thus tiredsmp was born. a lot of them still lived with their parents at that point so it was also a nice opportunity for them to gain more independence and be able to venture out on their own journeys.

for las nevadas..... that is a whole Rant on its own for me to fully go into it so i will save all of it for another night as i have things to do. however. i think, to him, it was a very mechanical process. wake up, keep up the facade, scheme in the shadows, go to bed, repeat. i don't think he really thought about much other than the Necessities, ie mostly revenge. it is always really difficult for me to talk about cpurpled because the way he approaches things is very... uninteresting? he does what he needs to do, or at least what he feels like he needs to do. there's not a lot of personal feelings or retrospection when it comes to him. so talking about how HE felt in those moments is difficult because what he felt was often nothing really, outside of spite, greed, and a need to win. don't get me wrong! i think las nevadas was a super isolating and horrible era filled with nothing but self-sabotage and an unreachable goal he never even wanted in the first place. but i don't think HE realized that, you know? i don't think a lot of people realize that the persona he puts forth Is a sort of mask, yes, but not in the way they think. there are some things he's aware of doing, like pretending to be nice to the las nevadas residents to earn their trust, but a lot of it Is who he honestly thinks he is. i see a lot of people write him as putting on this mask of a brave, uncaring mercenary to hide how scared he is of all the shit going on around him and no!! he IS just an apathetic asshole!! the mask at play is how he earnestly believes the way for him to make a legacy is to have power, and that power is what he craves, when it's obvious all he wants is for people to Know him. he wants bonds!! the people who do pick up on this also tend to take it a different route of him actually being soft underneath the tough exterior, but that's also not it!! he wants to build relationships and a legacy, but wanting that doesn't and shouldn't erase the fact that he's super apathetic and materialistic and an asshole. bc that's just how he is!!! both can coexist!!!! and they do!!!!

Arilena Ara - “Fall from the sky”

Hmm, well this is awkward

There you have it, my first impression of the song formerly known as “Shaj”. Four words I’ve written down after hearing the song, while the others got at least a full paragraph. Then it won FiK, completely passing me by as it did. 

Since then, my opinion has been has been bouncing up and down between mild like and even milder dislike ever since, before finally settling "meh this is boring either way”. Imagine caring about “Fall from the sky”. I don’t. Neither should you. 

Song Analysis

Christ how do I even do this? Does brutal honesty works? Okay, then: “Fall from the sky” is a completely unremarkable song, devoid of traits. It is generic balladeering 101. It’s bechamel sauce. It’s vanilla ice cream. It is as colourful as primer paint and as fun as watching said paint dry. If the tune didn’t put you to sleep, then the lyrics would (“I’m gonna spread my wings, for I am destined to fly” - who even writes cliché tripe like this? 

Fittingly enough, the revamp did cause Arilena to “fall from the sky” at ESCUnited, by which i mean her score in the polls PLUMMETED faster than the speed of gravity <3 How was she even that high in the first place? Like, this:

isn’t that good? Arilena is a good perfomer, yes, but like... she cannot carry this blandfest by ehrself. Yet, people were unironically comparing “Shaj” to "Suus”? SUUS? S U U S????? I *hate* “Suus” but good lord no. “Suus” was shrill, diabolical and a walking nightmare, but one thing it definitely NEVER was, was boring. 

If anything, “Shaj” is a “Kruna”. A shouty midtempo bore, crippled by its datedness, somehow finding a place of reverence because the person singing it is a glame blonde in a punk gothic dress (or whatever umbrella term you’d put Arilena’s dress under - I am partial to “tarantula couture” myself), which attracts the snobs-but-not-rly-snobs-cuz-they-are-basic-shh-don’t-tell’em basics like moths to a flame, like birds to a pane of glass (okay, Laurell). God why am I still writing about “Shaj” it is DULL END OFF.

Yes well, you really cannot discuss the cold Yin of “Shaj” without mentioning the warm Yang of “Me tana”. I mean what *exactly* was wrong with this song again?

Elvana Gjata - “Me tana”

Okay, before we continue, a PSA: “Me tana” is NOT a Fuego clone. Folk Dance was a thing before Fuego. Reggaeton was a thing before Fuego. Songs in the same genre as “Fuego” aren’t “Fuego Clones”. STOP SPREADING FAKE NEWS.

Anyway having said that, “Me tana” (whose closest living relatives are “Origo” and “Qele qele”), was a pretty good folk/dance/pop blend, even if its staging dabbled a bit too much into the Fuego pool (staging. not song. STAGING), but I am confident it would’ve found its own place and niche had the 2020 contest come to fruition. 

My personal pet theory: a lot of the Arilena fandom stems from her beating Elvana and not due to “Shaj” itself. I can defintitely tell because the juror that made “Me Tana” lose, Mikaela Mingle, ALSO gained a cult following after Elvana lost and well... Keep getting pressed, losers.

So am I an Elvana fan myself? Well, not really? However ,i do like “Me tana” a lot though, and  I think it was leagues ahead of “Shaj” in the pretty much every category, mostly because *Shajte* itself isn’t (and never was) a good song to begin with.

“Shaj” was always a borderline qualifier at best, and the revamp did it no favours. “Fall from the sky” wpuld have been dead on arrival. 

However, I was pleased when Albania announced the revamp initially? See it as win/win: either Shaj would be transformed into a GREAT pop song, making the loss of, well everything that wasn’t “Shaj” in FiK, justifiable. Or, Albania would fumble it by stripping down the song even more and getting rid of all of its unique qurks, which was a MASSIVE slap in the face of any idiot who had ever claimed that “Me tana” would’ve flopped in Rotterdam (a breed of idiot that absolutely deserve to be clowned at every juncture, preferably by their own hand).

Anyway, even though “Fall from the sky” is dead and FiK will probably still be held in december anyway, I would want RTSQ to just pick Arilena again? “Shaj” was *SHAJTE* but Arilena herself was... okay? Good, even? She gave me a GLIMMER of talent during the live, which is in itself a small miracle given how thoroughly Not Good her song was. And I mean, just the ~mere principle~ of 2020 artists getting conned out of their rightful place in ESC by the EBU forces me to root for Arilena’s return in 2021*. Make it happen, RTSQ.

albania - this year’s nf season was a let down for me, partly because a lot of the winning songs weren’t the best on offer, and partly because albania picked first and nothing could live up to it. i love the depth this has, the dark, almost tribal vibes, and most of all i love how they didn’t fuck up the revamp like they usually do. if this is staged correctly, i think this could do really well. 10/10

greece - i feel like this has been overlooked in the wider fandom, which is odd because greek entries are usually pretty polarising, for better or for worse. regardless, i really like this. it’s atmospheric, powerful as hell, and katerine is more than capable of nailing it live. don’t count greece out just yet! 9.5/10

portugal - festival da canção was easily the best nf this year and the portuguese public picked wisely. telemóveis is such an intriguing song with a really curious sound, so traditional yet so modern at the same time. i’m not 100% on the staging, but they have time to figure it out. 9.5/10

spain - la venda wasn’t the song i was rooting for in the selection (rip todo bien, never forgotten) but i’m fully on board with it now. this works so well with a big audience, and you just know that the crowd will be on his side. if this doesn’t go top 10 at the very least i’ll be stunned. 9/10

iceland - hm. this is one where you need to listen a few times to get a full impression of what the fuck you’re hearing/seeing. i really did not like this when i first heard it alongside all the other söngvakeppnin songs (and most of them sucked lbr), but now i’m kind of ambivalent towards it. i still don’t like the screaming or the key change, but it’s something different and i can admire that. 6/10

slovenia - fine, but forgettable. she has a nice voice, but there’s a distinct lack of stage presence from the two of them and i fear that this might get lost in the semi final. 6/10

israel - i’m conflicted here. i definitely don’t think home is as bad as the fan polls and reviews imply, but it’s not great either. a verse or two in hebrew would have really elevated this and i’m a little baffled as to why the writers didn’t include even a little bit considering the contest is on home turf this year. still, kobi’s a very convincing performer and israel probably didn’t want to win again anyway. 6/10

poland - this is an odd one, which isn’t a bad thing at all in a year full of safe entries. not sure if using the bilingual version was the best shout, but it’s clearly still very polish and i’m glad to hear that they’ll be wearing the traditional clothing on stage in tel aviv. 6/10

czech republic - the chorus absolutely slaps, and if i was judging by music alone this’d probably be in my top ten. unfortunately, though, the rest of the song exists. the lyrics are truly abysmal, with some of the lines ending awkwardly and without proper rhymes where they’re needed, and the spoken-word section is genuinely unbearable. 5.5/10

austria - i honestly don’t know where to place this one. very underwhelming when it was first released, but now i feel like there’s potential here. most of austria’s recent entries have been very under the radar only to end up doing quite well. i’m not as optimistic about this as some of those, but only time will tell. 5.5/10

hungary - not a patch on his previous entry, but pleasant enough. he’s a good performer and unless the staging really sucks, he’ll do fine. 5.5/10

north macedonia - it’s a nice ballad? i guess? and, unlike a lot of their recent entrants, tamara is an established singer who we all know can sing live. there are also rumours that the delegation has been planning the performance for a while, so who knows, perhaps this’ll qualify. 5/10

georgia - this has been growing on me lately. the song itself is a bit of a bust, although the revamp helped, but oto really brings it to life on stage. even if you don’t understand what he’s saying, you can tell by the emotion in his voice that he really means it. 5/10

russia - the nightmare dream team hasn’t produced a good song in over a decade at this point, this included. kirkorov needs to quit fooling himself and let someone else have a go. 4.5/10

belgium - belgium’s had quite the glow up since 2014, but i fear they’ve gone for style over substance this year. wake up is very polished, but it doesn’t go anywhere and eliot’s live performances haven’t been convincing as of yet. 4/10

lithuania - i don’t know what was more shocking, him winning the selection or me finding out that he was lolita zero’s real voice in 2017. this isn’t awful, just very repetitive and strangely put together. 3.5/10

norway - sue me, i don’t like this. the bald guy feels out of place and out of tune, it sounds like it was written by a child, and oh my god it’s so unbearably cheap. 3/10 

estonia - eesti laul was such a let down this year. usually there’s a good mix of mainstream and alternative genres, but the new producer doesn’t seem to give a shit about variety, which is a real shame. anyway, victor’s performance is slick, but he can barely sing and the song itself is nothing to write home about. 3/10

romania - when this was first selected i didn’t mind it, probably because i just really didn’t want laura bretan to win, but as the season drags on i’ve really soured to it. it feels like it lasts for a minute longer than it actually does, and the whole ay-ay-ay part was not a good choice. 2.5/10

australia - as someone who was a big fan of estonia last year, this is honestly the furthest thing from that. it comes across as quite cheap (even without the questionable staging), and the chorus really grates on me. 2.5/10

belarus - i didn’t watch the entirety of the belarusian auditions for them to reject the potato monks in favour of lidl’s own brand zara larsson. 2/10

Dear my Brothers and Sisters, as I sit here in this chair and writing these words I have sat back and done a lot of thinking over my life and the things that I have been through and I would like to share some of them with you so you can see that all the stuff you heard about me may just be people adding on to it, that really don't know what happened to me. first, I want to say that I love each and every one of you because you have chosen to be with something that I choose to give my all too and make it something that you could be proud of. now, when I first joined the set, I was 21 years old and I was so angry over my past and the things I have been through that I wanted to be apart of something that I got to choose who I rode for because at the end of the day we have chosen a gang lifestyle and have to accept everything that came with it. so you would meet someone you know really don't love it the way you do but if he or she is apart of it you have to put your life on the line for them and that always bothered me. people think that the move I did was about power and that's so far from the truth and shows that they don't really know me. I wanted to be able to choose who I rode for and put my life on the line for. now, as I started to go through changes because I was becoming someone under the Bloods that even I didn't see. I was just trying to show the brothers from every set that we are all one and shouldn't be killing each other. when I was coming through the ranks yes I did things to make the hood look stronger than the rest of them because I knew in that lifestyle weakness is preyed upon and will be crushed. so I went hard. I was placed in the gang unit in Northern State Prison for being a leader and riot starter. So, they separated me from everyone again. wouldn't allow me to have a cellie until I was moved over there and they put me with the other brother who was considered a leader. they would pull me out and try and jump me but when they saw I wasn't scared they would take me back to my cell. all because I wasn't afraid to say I was a Blood member. anyway, my time in the gang unit (the first time) was eye-opening and I got to see how if this thing I love didn't get fixed, I and a lot of other good men and women was either going to be killed or spend the rest of our lives in jail. so, when I was finally released from prison in 01, I was 24 years old and had just done 44 months on a 4-year sentence. and I truly wanted to find a sense of peace but as I walked around my neighborhood I got to see that the Bloods and Crips had destroyed the one thing that is for us. our community. so a month later I found a home for the family and tried to make sailing drugs the last priority. I tried to have more love around there than anything. I tried to show as much love to everyone who stepped out there, so they would know that this isn't truly us. we are just angry at our conditions. I spoke to community leaders and everything. but the streets got a hold of me again and I was taken away from them for something I truly tried to stop but anyway, I was back in jail again facing life in prison. so while in the county I tried to help put a truce together with the Crip homies because we are in there fighting for our lives and we still trying to beef with each other over something that truly can be fixed. because why do we hate each other? what's the reason? a lot of my brothers who was somebody under what we stood for was upset but when I sat them down and explained it to them like I'm doing to you they got it. I And in 04 when the then-Councilman Ras Baraka  reached out to me through one of the young brothers and asked to be apart of the truce on the streets i told him I'm with it long as it's not political because once it becomes political, the message is lost to all the media and cops getting involved and it's not about them. it's about those kids who look up to the street guys, it about stops killing each other. it's about loving yourself enough not to hate someone else. and if we have to make a show of it so it can be every where and look good on someone resume then I'm not going to tell my lil brothers and sisters to support it. period. because we won't be used. and then soon as something goes wrong your first answer is to lock us down and bury the key. that's not right.) I have placed back into the gang unit once again after I pled guilty to my crime. after being in there for the second time, I truly felt the change in me coming. i felt myself becoming more of a man than a gang member or gang leader. i wasn't trying to become a better gang leader. i was trying to become a better man and then i can be a better leader. i know my position in the Bloods and how I'm looked at. it took me years to really see what every one else saw because to be honest, i was in denial for a long time about who i was in the eyes of the cops, community, and my brothers and sisters. But, i can't run or hide from it anymore because then it seems like I'm lying about my words. So i accept it as what it is but i have chosen to use that position to help now. i was kicked out of N.J. for not being someone who will let them treat us less than human in Northern State Prison because they don't like gang members or understand them. and all the while my own kind was going against me because even back then i had a pet peeve of dealing with fake nonsense, if your being real on who you are i will go to my grave fighting for your right to be who you are. if you want to get a job and still come through and get love its my job as your brother to make sure your not caught up in the nonsense of those of us who is still with the nonsense, i always told the brothers to treat the brothers who want out of the nonsense with love and respect because one day that will be you.it's the way you leave that should be the problem not the fact that your done selling drugs, gangbanging, robbing people and all the nonsense we think we have to do in order to get the love and respect of our peers. and a lot of guys will try and condemn a brother or sister for wanting to live a life of some peace and say they went soft or don't love the hood any more and that's not it at all. everyone gets to a point in their lives where they realize that life is meant to be lived. the problem be the ones who is faking and think this is some type of movie or something and play with their lives as if they have more than one of them and that's who i fought for back then. the real ones who knew who they were and wasn't hiding it behind some pride to impress people. don't get in the car if you don't want to. the situation in Boys in the Hood where Tre said let him out of the car. that was real. even though Doe was hurt he understood and let him out that takes real strength it never meant he didn't love his best friend. Anyway, so the same ones i put my life on the line for was trying to hurt me. it made me so angry, i snapped. and i was shipped to AZ. where i was forced to be around guys who was suppose to be my enemy but now i have to put my life on the line for them because out there its about your race. not your gang colors. So i got to meet good Crips who love what they are but understand that it's real ones under everything and they want change too. So it opened my eyes and i was allowed to see change in my heart. So when i got back to Jersey, i told my brothers and sisters I'm done gang banging. because with gangbanging you have to deal with the politics that come with it. you have to deal with the hate that comes with it. you have to watch even your own who suppose to be with you and if your not doing something they like they find ways to try and cross you out whether with the cops or bullets. so, i didn't want to be apart of that hate any more. it was my entire reason for fighting for the little brothers and sisters back then because i didn't want guys with money or big egos thinking they can just tell the young ones what to do in order to forward these guys own ego of being somebody and that's why the beef started, it had nothing to do with what everyone was talking about. and i don't sit here and say i was perfect and didn't do my share of nonsense, what I'm saying is when it came to this that i love, i chose to always try and do right by it because i knew about the meaning of the first two letters, B.L. and i knew i didn't want to be apart of the last two, O.D. however,  like the US attorney said i was still speaking for the same thing i said was done with. So i couldn't explain to her that if I'm going to be accused of being a leader then why not let me use this position to lead them the right way because if i say I'm all the way done and now u have a vacuum and people who only want power and is willing to hurt their own kind in order to get it is going to destroy the community. but i kept my thoughts to myself and took my time like a man even though my own people told on me again. and then i get to the feds and i see all this nonsense going on here where everyone wants to be the man of something. Everywhere i went i tried to get the brothers to see there is a better way to be who you are and still love the thing that you say you love but they been watching Gang land so long they think it's the thing to be. they crash over some of the dumbest shit, and they cross some of the good brothers out over nonsense. i was told on in two spots and then i was stabbed for trying to honor what we love and suppose to stand on as men and my own kind that was suppose to help me stood there and watched and then went to the police on me???. that was it for me. and as i said in my last post i told my brother Tef, I'm there in a different way. i can't and will not put my life on the line while my brothers and sisters sit there and watch me die. It was dark and silent as I sat internally screaming at myself for denying my need for an early night. I had been planning this for the entire week, the earlier I could fall asleep the less time I had to sit and dwell on the dare. It was going to be hard already to sleep that night, because five years before to the day still haunts me in reality and in nightmares.

I sat on my bed in the pitch black of winter nights just hoping for a distraction, looking back I only wish that distraction could have been a positive one. But then the text came through to my phone and as soon as I saw it I swallowed my wishes for a distraction with a bitter taste.

Have you ever sat, at 2am on a Thursday morning, trying to talk your best friend off a ledge. Maybe you did it at 4pm on a Saturday afternoon. Maybe even 9am on a Wednesday morning. So many times that you can’t even count them on all your fingers and toes, but it still kills off a piece of your soul every time. It’s not a literal ledge. That would have been easier. I could have flung my arms around her and clung on for dear life. The mental ledge is so much harder, so much more unpredictable. That ledge she so often balances on the edge off is why I feel guilty visiting home, because when I’m home I can't be there to sway her back to safety. I can’t grip her in my cuddles and stroke her hair and shush the voices back down by telling her its' okay.

This particular 2am on a Thursday morning was a hard one, you see something in particular my best friend struggles with is coping with death. Ironically nobody in her family had ever died. She was so scared of it happening, spending more time fearing them not being there, than being present in life itself. And it was at 2am, on this particular morning, she had one of her moments. A moment where she needs pushing further back from the ledge, and as the tears streamed down my face, and I felt my fingers tiptoeing across the keys as if I was barefoot, and finding my way through a glass room. The slightest slip could draw blood.

This particular 2am on a Thursday morning, I was over 100 miles away, trying to comfort her over text as she poured her deepest fears to me, frightened of life after someone else’s death. She desperately believed she had to die before her grandma and granddad, and she was even surer that it wouldn’t be long. As she clawed at her mind, I clawed at mine, because on that day when she had a moment, I had one too.

The biggest difference, she was mourning a possibility, a what if. I was already mourning what had. On that Thursday morning at 2am, the 6 year anniversary of my grandma’s death had already caused my heart to ache. I didn’t share this with her. In fact outside my family not a soul knew of this date. So she wasn’t to blame. But the pressure was pushing down on my shoulders as I tried to explain, how it becomes a manageable pain, which it does, except on memorable dates. And that date, was about as memorable as it gets.

Now its 2:45am and we've progressed a little and I think I may have helped subdue the urges, knocking them back down, for a week or even just for a day. But we’re mid conversation and she hasn’t replied in 8 minutes and my brain is on fire at all the possibilities, as hard as I try to be rational I sit in my pyjamas in a cold dark room, clutching my car keys trying to fight the urge to race to her, from over 100 miles away. Firstly because I know she'll reply as soon as I hit the M62. Secondly because I don't even know her address, she comes to my house for the distraction, and we avoid her house in fear of a trigger. The third reason, if anything had happened, if she’s done anything, I’d be too late. And I’d rather live in denial than regret.

When it hits 16 minutes since she last replied I message again, telling her anything and everything I can to remind her that she is strong and brave and just anything I can to make my voice louder than the ones that play in her mind like it’s a circus and she’s the clown that everyone uses as a target. She might be vulnerable, but her strength usually counteracts it, and for that I'll be forever thankful.

After another 30 minutes I don’t know what to do and I’m trying to calm down but I can feel the panic rising through my throat like bile and its at the point I’m happy the acid is burning through my tonsils because right now its firing me up enough to stay awake. Even if its to panic I have every possibility running through my mind and every worry possible. Is this my fault? Could I have said something more to help? If she has done something have I made the wrong decision by staying home and not knocking on every door in her neighbourhood?

Now its 4am and I'm still awake because the tiredness has evaporated and the now the tears are just fuelling the fear because I’m scared to go to sleep, and wake up to bad news. If I don’t sleep I don’t have to wake up to that text or missed call telling me there’s been another incident . I don’t want to skip the hours sleeping sound when I can stay awake and prepare myself for dealing with her parents heartbreak.

Its 5:39 and I’ve messaged our other best friend telling him how scared I feel and just hoping that he’ll know what to do. He doesn’t. He stays with me in panic but then he has to go to work leaving me in my pit of despair, wrapped in my quilt with the edges sodden with tears.

Now it’s 6:12 and I’ve messaged her 43 times with no response and the tears have dried but the knots in my stomach have tightened and I don’t think I can breathe. My phone battery light flickers to alert me its in need of charge, leaving me sitting in the corner of my room too scared to let it to go dark and miss a message.

It’s 7:45 and I’ve texted her parents trying to be nonchalant asking about an assignment and her phone being dead so can they get her to text me in the hopes that they’ll walk into her room and check before telling me she’s still sleeping and I’ll finally be able to sleep but the message stays unread and by now they’ve already left for work assuming she’s sleeping soundly. I still don’t know.

When I see a glimpse of the clock again it’s 8:14 and I’ve checked how long it’s been since she’s been active on Facebook about three hundred times and it still hasn’t changed as the hours that pass so slowly mock me.

Now it’s 10:38 and my phone vibrates again, my eyes barely staying open as they flicker over the text.

“sorry hun, fell asleep, was just having a bad night... thanks for being there. Love ya xx”.

My eyes can finally close as I know she’s safe and all I can do is be thankful that this is over for another night. As much as I hope I’ll never have to relive this I already know it wont be long till another restless night leaves us both immobilised in fear. I can only hope it ends in the same positive way.

No matter what happened, I'd always be there to help.

The Customer Is NOT Always Right

It was a Friday at the strip club just after the free lunch buffet rush. Some of the night girls usually come in early to work the happy hour. We run a pretty busy crowd all shift on Fridays; one main stage and three sides. I tell the night girls if they come in early, expect me to put them in stage rotation or get the hell out. We put on a goddamn show during my shifts.

So I am walking around the club, doing manager stuff and walking by the main stage. I notice a five-top with two young ladies and three guys, one maybe late fifties, sitting right at main stage. They are laughing and having fun. I think about an hour goes by and I walk past that group again. This time, they were pretty boisterous. I made a mental note to check them in a half hour. Before I walked much further, something caught my eye from under their table. It was shiny or reflected the bar lights. Our table stands are all painted black so maybe it was a sequined purse?

I casually walked over to the table smiling and greeted them and asked them how they were doing. They responded pretty much how a table full of happy drunk people would respond. I had bent down to look under the table at what had caught my eye as they were talking. After I realized what it was, I reached in and grabbed it – a half-empty handle of Tito’s Handmade Vodka. I’m trying to figure out how they walked this big-ass jug in without getting noticed. (Side note: I worked with a white-trash stripper at another bar that almost succeeded in smuggling two longneck beers out of the bar inside her pair of skin-tight jeans.)

I stood up and asked the table, “Whose is this?” The older guy, acting like a drunken magician slurs, “Tuh-dah, bish! Mine.” He stumble-lunges at his jug o’ vodka and I Heisman Trophy his ass – tucked the jug tight in the crook of one arm while giving him a gentle (for me) stiff arm with the other. I questioned him as to what possessed him to bring this massive bottle into our establishment. He responded that we were out of Tito’s the last time he came in to our club.

About this time, their waitress came over. I asked her if they have a tab open and she nodded in reply. “Close ‘em out,” I told her and she scampered off. I turned back to the table and insisted that they finish their drinks; they were leaving. The older gentleman started to get loud and belligerent so I started walking towards the main lobby. No need to ruin everyone else’s good time. I caught the eye of their waitress who, by this time, was closing their tab at the waitress station at the main bar. I made hand gestures for her to bring the tab out to the front. She nodded and I continued on with the drunken ensemble in tow.

In the lobby, one of the younger gentlemen started to apologize; the old guy was their boss. He claimed they were celebrating and did not mean to cause any problems. Here comes Mr. Idiot and he starts slobbering and spitting while he is talking. I did not even hear a word, I just put my finger up to my lips for him to be silent and I stated, “You got caught with your pants down and now you’re leaving.” His whole head started to glow like an incandescent tomato. He sputtered profusely and I could see that I had upset him something considerable. I tucked that little nugget of information away for later.

The waitress came out with the old man’s card and the tab and handed them to me. The jug was still in the crook of my left arm as I nodded to the guy to step up to the lobby counter. I handed him the tab but kept his card (slipped it into my shirt pocket). I grabbed my pen and extended it to him so he could sign the tab. His tomato face had paled remarkably and the look on it had changed as well. He made no attempt to grab the pen. He just started stumbling for the exit doors. “I ain’ signin’ sshhit! Ima cancel mah card,” he declared slowly, as if his tongue was wading through a peanut butter marsh.

I grabbed the tab and quickly followed him out the exit doors with the whole entourage and now quite a few of the regulars to boot. I figured they followed for equal parts help and also entertainment value. I easily overtook this real life Weeble Wobble and I again handed him the tab to sign repeating, “You got caught with your pants down. Now sign the tab and you can go.” Oh boy did his face get hot!! It was all blistery red like he had just chewed up a Carolina Ghost Pepper. I was standing about three feet away but I swear I could feel the heat coming off his head. I thought it was going to pop when he yelled, “I DIN NAH HAVE MAH PANTZ DOWN!!”

It is eerie how my boss, the area director, has the ability to show up when things are getting off kilter. I see him standing quietly at the edge of the crowd sipping on a can of Diet Pepsi, looking at me as I responded to the guy, “It’s nothing more than a figure of speech. Now simmer down and sign the tab.”

He feebly attempted to push past me as he reiterated that he was not going to sign the tab and would indeed cancel his card. This whole event, I have been fairly stoical. I have been through this situation countless times but now my fuse has burned short. Still holding the tab in my hand, I stopped him, looked him dead in the eye and advised, “You’re not going anywhere until you sign this tab, old man. Here’s why.” I held up the illicit jug of Tito’s.

“You sign the fuckin’ tab right now, goddammit, or I swear to Christ I’ll call the cops and have them throw you in jail. It’s illegal to walk into a bar in Texas with your own alcohol. That’s one. You’re practically shitfaced. That’s two. I’ll have a description of your car with license plate number for the cops if you bail. That’s three.” My eyes got all squinty as I leaned towards him. “Sign. The fucking. Tab.” He stood there, using every last drop of his ball juice to stare back at me in defiance. Finally, he caved.

He grabbed the pen and tab. He turned one of his friends around to use their back to sign. His eyes shot daggers as he shoved the tab at me and started to lurch past. I looked down at the tab to make sure he did sign and not pull a stunt like just a scribble. I would haul him back inside and reprint that tab until my shift ended or we ran out of thermal paper if I was not convinced it looked legit. Thumbs up on the signature. I then looked at the tip line.

“Zero? My waitress had nothing to do with you being an asshole drunk.” He did not even acknowledge my comment. He wanted his jug of vodka back and I shook my head. “Mine,” I stated through clenched teeth. He mumbled something unintelligible and then stumbled towards a crappy yellow station wagon parked across the lot. His cast of misfits had largely remained quiet this whole time but they quickly gathered together and pooled their cash. The one young gentleman handed the pile to the waitress and it looked like some decent cabbage. He walked past me with the rest in tow and said, “I’m sorry. That’s our boss. He does this quite a bit.” I told him he needed a new boss as I handed over the credit card.

They followed their boss out to the banana car where the boss was leaning against the passenger side door. I was not moving until I saw that car off the lot and made sure the village idiot was not attempting to drive. The group that was still assembled outside behind me watched as the station wagon backed out of the space and came slowly around towards the exit.

The old guy was furiously working the crank to roll the window down. Probably to throw one last sarcastic remark at me before they wandered off. I spun the top off the jug of Tito’s vodka in the time it took him to roll his window halfway down. I did not say a word. I just looked at him and started slow pouring his vodka all over the ground.

He watched in horror and disbelief until every drop had spilled onto the pavement. I thought I saw his bottom lip quiver a little as he silently rolled up his window and waved the driver to go. I witnessed utter defeat in an opponent that day and it was all that I thought it could be.

[NF] "The Sunset"

It was nearly sunset, when I took my wooden rocking chair and place it facing the terrace, which is barricaded by a designed stone fence made probably from concrete stone, to see the beauty and astounding peace of my baryo's scenery.

As I put the envelope and my mug, on the top of the coffee table beside me, that came from the post man today, I lied my aching back down in my rocking chair to feel relax for a bit, seeing the carabaos work more than their owners is ironic and from a mile away I can see my old and ancient rice field.

The field has been passed many times on the past generations. To look at it makes me feel relaxed because my father always used to tell me to care for it like it is my own child as it grows through time even if they were gone.

Yellow rich rice crops standing and swaying in the air and the strong breeze from my field can be smelled in here, that strong breeze that smells like trees combined with rice smell.

And again from a mile away I can see a kid running to my house quickly as if he is about to stumble. Eloy is one of the brightest kid here in our baryo. He always plays too often but I do not really care, it is an obligation of a kid to play and have fun. Eloy always comes to my field and asks me to let him work there. Of course, I do not give him heavy works only things his body can do.

When Eloy had finally stepped his foot on my house, I stopped rocking my chair and stood up to greet him as he took my hands and do a mano, which is for younger people to show their respect on to old people. I patted his head with a slight smile on my face and sit again on my chair while tapping my lap, signaling him to sit on it.

"How was your day, Eloy?"

"It was really good, Mr. Cruz! How about you?"

"As usual, still sitting on this chair lessening my work because an old man does not want his bones get cranked up."

"Poor you! I am glad I can run fast and move in any way I want."

I chuckled softly and smiled to him again. I really like talking to this kid. Me, being an old man and a lone man, is really a relief to have people on your back to make you feel good.

Eloy then asked me about why I had not yet harvested my crops,

"I have not ordered my workers to harvest it because I know they are all tired so I gave them a rest."

"Why? I do not like resting, I do not like sleeping I just want to be awake so I can spend most of my time playing."

"Because rest is necessary, even God took rest."

Eloy seemed to not approve my statement and he nodded no while I sway the chair.

"If that so, well I still do not want it."

"Eloy when you grow up, rest is the only thing your body will crave and want. Being an old man is tiring."

Eloy nodded no again and took a sip on my mug and spitted it,

"I thought it was water."

"It is coffee Eloy, coffee makes me feel better."

"Why bother drinking that if water is more better? And that tastes horrible Mr. Cruz, I do not like it."

He rubbed his tongue with his hand to remove the strong taste of the coffee then a flock of birds in a shape of letter-v flew above us and Eloy's face is a bit of curious.

"Mr. Cruz? Why do the birds form like that?"

"It is their tradition Eloy."

"What is a err-tradition?"

"It is what we do ever since we was born, like when the time you were born there were already fiestas and fairs."

"Oh. I like fiestas and fairs! It is so fun when we have those! Well, now I like err-traditions."

"And also Eloy, the birds flew to that way because they are going home after a day of finding foods for their younglings. Even if they lose someone in their group, it is necessary for them to get home and feed their next generation."

Eloy's face looked awed and laid the back of his head on my chest while still swaying the chair. A horrible loud noise of an engine passed through us like a sonic wave and Eloy said,

"That truck sounds so bad, is that how they make trucks in the city, Mr. Cruz? They sound so bad."

"It is just an old one Eloy."

"Speaking of city, I wonder why Anna has not gone home yet."

I stopped rocking the chair for a bit then said,

"Maybe Anna just worked overtime for your donuts Eloy."

He got up and said,

"I do not know, Mr. Cruz, but I like her donuts. I miss my sister. If I ever grew up, even though I do not want to, I want to be like you Mr. Cruz and Anna herself."

"Why, Eloy?"

"Because you are both smart and my sister is the best woman I have ever met, she is not just my sister Mr. Cruz, she is more like my mother..."

I looked at Eloy for a bit nourishing the pause of seconds in his voice then he continued,

"She has done so many things for me. Mother and father had left us too early so she had to make a living herself just for me and herself. I am so proud of my sister, Mr. Cruz."

I could hear Eloy's voice tearing up just from saying that, he really love his sister. Eloy wiped his eyes with his dirty forehand and as soon as he was done wiping his tears, he asked me again,

"Mr. Cruz, what is the happiest moment in your life?"

I pause for seconds and that pause is like a stop of time. It stopped the revolution of the Earth. I did not know what to say, I do not know the definition of it and for a while I smiled to him and thought that I have found the meaning of it,

"The happiest moment of my life is when I met you two - you and Anna. We are not just like the typical neighbors, I see you two as my family Eloy. You and Anna have done so many grateful things for me also. That is why the best thing that happened to my life, before I take my last breath, is when I met you two. Thank you..."

I hugged Eloy tight and kissed the back of his head softly and then I noticed myself tearing slowly but luckily Eloy fell asleep. I will really feel embarrassed if he ever heard me say those things, but I am still grateful to him and Anna.

I did not notice that the sun had also fell down. The street lights's orange tone makes me think more. I grabbed my mug and the envelope again. As I sip my cup, I stared at the envelope and opened it again, I felt the guilt of not telling Eloy what really had happened to her sister.

[NF] Depression Comes to Bed With Us

There have been multiple times when Depression has come to bed with us, i admit that I hid him under the covers just until you'd closed your eyes.

You see, me and Depression were in a relationship long before I met you. We have been through a lot together. Physically, mentally and emotionally but that doesn't mean we work.

In the early hours of the morning, I looked at you and cried because you were so perfect and here I was poisoned, used and abused by Depression, not the sweet girl you see me as.

My mind was taken over by dark thoughts that I'd never want you to hear. How can I want to die when I have someone like you?

You have to get up for work at six and I feel useless because unlike you my mind is unable to concentrate on anything other than myself. You have been so supportive and Depression reminds me that you're probably only being supportive because there’s no way you could leave someone with a mental illness that would just be disgusting. I explain that you're not like that and that's a stupid thing to think. Depression laughs and tells me to google it and he is right. A lot of people become single because of their mental illness.

You wake up for work and I kiss you because I love you and I'm scared one day you'll realise you deserve more.

Depression tells me I shouldn't trust you because you didn't kiss me as passionate as you did yesterday, I try to explain to him that it's early and you're tired. Depression is paranoid and mistrusting. He has always made me aware of every second look, whisper or snigger in any room I've walked into, so I guess he is only looking out for me.

I have breakfast with Depression whilst we watch Television. We check my emails together, scroll through Facebook and laugh at how sickening happy people are.

It's now three in the afternoon I cry to him, I beg him to tell me what's wrong with me. Depression has had enough of sympathising with me, he doesn't even offer an apology. Myself and Depression are coming to the end of a life long battle that I think neither of us will win. I question him. I ask depression why I can't just do the things I want to do. He tells me it's my fault. I'm weak, I need him. I have nothing left to say to Depression.

I get into the shower, on my own this time, Depression has gone out, we can't bear each other at the moment. I guess we both need to just clear our heads. I turn the temperature up I want to feel something. I notice we have a shower gel that we haven't used for years. I lather it on, embracing the smell, it reminds me of a time before Depression moved in. It makes me feel a little uneasy and I wash the soap off fast because I'm not ok smelling of a time where I was so empowered and free. My life will never be like that again.

Depression has told me he is coming back in the early hours of the morning, at least I know he is safe. He told me not to wait up for him but he knows I will anyway.

Then you come home from work and you are so happy. Here you are, the most beautiful thing inside and out, telling me you missed me. You probably wonder why I look so sad but you see I'm unable to tell you. I know I cause you pain and I know sometimes I seem hostile towards you. I can't tell you how Depression makes me feel all day I don't want you to know about him. I make up lies about how much progress I'm making and how my day went. I told you I made a cake and learned a new skill. You told me you're so proud of me and I'm really starting to get better. We watch tv together and I feel so safe in your arms. I feel you falling asleep and you look so perfect. As your eyes close for the final time of the night, I notice he has snuck in.

It's eventually bed time again for you, me and Depression.

[NF] An affair with an actor

An ever green story is what comes out of your experience of falling in love with someone or something. Falling in love with someone occurs on numerous occasion, but falling in love with something is something that occurs on a blue moon.

Looking for that one field that you’ll always love to work in and dedicate yourself to is perhaps the most difficult thing you do in life. Some people find their passion sooner and some keep searching it, trying different things, cooking, designing, writing and some more searching until they find out what they were meant to find out.

Although I discovered my passion a bit late in life, I’m glad I found it when I did. I was lost as an 18 year old teenager having no idea what to do with life and suddenly I was struck with a great year in filmmaking, the year of 2008.

Having seen movies like Iron Man and The Dark Knight, I immediately figured out what I wanted to do, I wanted to be a storyteller.

The thing about learning how to tell stories is that you need to go through a lot of material to understand what past storytellers discovered and what they were able to do with their discoveries. A lot of that material exists in the form of the greatest format in media, the format of film.

Going through countless films, Se7en, Inception, Fight Club, The Matrix, Constantine, Minority Report, Mission Impossible, The Prestige, The Truman Show, The Terminator and so many more gems, I developed this deep appreciation for the mystery genre and how a good story keeps you hooked until the mystery is solved.

I started recalling my experience of watching The Matrix back in 1999 and how it kept me hooked, making me revisit the film countless times. I started breaking it down to understand all the elements working together to build the perfect story and then I read about how Will Smith was once attached to star as Neo.

This is when I realized that all the elements aside, one of the most crucial aspects in the film was Keanu Reeves and what he brought to the table. He made the mysterious nature of the story deeper and more meaningful with his portrayal of Neo.

Not only that, but his subsequent portrayals of intensely rebellious characters in career marque films like Constantine and John Wick were made equally mesmerizing with his portrayal methodology.

Continuing to watch his movies, I continued to fall deeper in love with his portrayals and the mystery genre as his characters were always strangled in between something unanswered that you desperately wanted to be answered.

My appreciation of Keanu’s capability isn’t confined to these words I write here on Reddit. Being a storyteller and a film lover, I decided to write a letter of acknowledgement to Keanu Reeves, but as I kept writing and revisiting my words, they transformed into a narrative screenplay.

I knew what I had to do then, I started storyboarding and visualizing a high octane essay video going through how Keanu keeps a secret in his eyes filling you with intrigue to keep watching his character until the story ends.

I’m proud to say the How Keanu Reeves Keeps a Secret is complete and it feels like a good presentation of what Keanu has given us over the years, but it is still nerve racking to know I’ve made the video live today and the people will see how I paid tribute to him.

It’s always nerve racking to know how many hours you’ve invested in your work and the people will get about 5 minutes to experience it.

It’s always nerve racking to know that your beloved story can go haywire even after investing all of yourself in it.

But that’s not going to stop me from enjoying the video’s launch. It’s my love letter to one of the most mesmerizing actors in the world today and I invite all story lovers to experience it.

I hope this memo finds you in good health and I hope you too have found appreciation for Keanu’s portrayals and even if you’ve still been unable to understand what Keanu does, my video will hopefully make you see what has been in front of you all this time.
