Terror in the Sky When a giant-sized bat ransacks Gotham harbor, Batman suspects that Dr. Kirk Langstrom is up to his old tricks, taking the Man-Bat formula again. Batman isn't the only one. Kirk's wife, Francine, is so distrustful of her husband that she decides to leave him. After further investigation, Batman discovers that this Man-Bat is not Kirk, but someone else, and thus he shames Francine's father into permanently destroying the formula. Almost Got'im The Joker, Killer Croc, the Penguin, Two-Face, and Poison Ivy all meet at a poker table, each telling a tale of times when they almost defeated Batman. At the same time, Harley Quinn is about to kill Catwoman after she rescued Batman from the Joker's electric chair, and Batman must save her. Birds of a Feather Veronica Vreeland is looking for a way to create a splash with her next party, and arrives at the idea of having a former criminal in attendance — especially if there is one whose manners would create a stir. The Penguin, who has recently reformed, fits the bill perfectly. In the process of convincing the Penguin to come to her party, Veronica finds she likes the corpulent little guy. For his part, the Penguin begins to fall in love with her, until he overhears that he is merely being used. What is Reality? Seeking to prove once and for all that his is the superior mind, the Riddler lures Batman into a riddle-solving contest inside the virtual reality of a computer game in order to save Commissioner Gordon's life. In the course of solving the riddles and escaping the Riddler's traps, Batman learns that he is able to manipulate the virtual reality landscape much like the Riddler does. This is, to say the least, humiliating... and if she's being honest, the young cityspeaker-turned-diplomat would likely give the most long-suffering sigh in response to the message. But it isn't as if Megatron is trying to make her feel this way; in truth, it's her kicking herself.

Elita and Chromia both had drilled her time and time again on minding herself, watching her back! Windblade had done neither of those things, leaving herself vulnerable, and now she sat with a damaged rotor and a banged up wing in the best hiding spot she'd managed to find in order to send out a call for help.

Oh, she was definitely going to get an audial-full about this later.

Tucking herself just that small bit further back, she purses her lip plating, shuttering her optics for a moment or two before giving a soft huff she hopes isn't audible over the comm.

"I'll stay put. Promise."

He sends a voice message to Thrash: Honesty is important, little one. Your mother will understand it was an accident. After all, trees can be replaced; you cannot. See if Bumblebee can assist with the dent, if not, we'll arrange for someone who can. Oh, and tell Robby congratulations on winning his tournament.

Thrash yelps when he first hears the ping (and subsequently Megatron's voice), considering how on edge he is looking at the young tree he just about felled with his accident. After a listen (and a relisten), he nods, and fiddles with his communication to message him back.

Ah, ha.. uh, thanks, Megatron! I wasn't going to lie to my mom, she knows everything anyways, but— I'll still feel real bad making her feel bad. And it's good to know there's a way to fix this; these dents are nasty! ..if you want to tell Robby, you can let him know yourself; I think he'll like that, and when he's happy, so am I.

He follows up with his brother's phone number— if Optimus has Mo's, he figures Megs can probably get ahold of Robby's, but it's better safe than sorry. At least, now, he's a little less worried about his oopsie.

When the yuk yuks go sour

So I saw the hashtag #TerrorInTheSkies recently, and immediately flashed back to the Annie Jacobsen piece that started as an article, eventually became a book, and presumably will at some point become an iOS app with blockchain payments.

Oh, and I parodied the original article here. (Apologies to the Finnish people and to the fine people of Guasti, California, which is today a megamall or sumfin.)

But the instance that I saw of the #TerrorInTheSkies hashtag was, um, a little overblown. The article (from two KFI hosts) described an encounter between a Southwest Airlines employee and a family, including a girl with an unusually spelled name.

Southwest subsequently apologized for the employee making fun of the girl’s name. I guess sometimes the airline’s reputation for yuk yuks falls flat.
