Elon Musk wants to cut 10% of Tesla jobs

San Francisco (The Times Groupe)- Tesla (TSLA.O) CEO Elon Musk has a “super bad feeling” about the economy and needs to cut about 10% of salaried staff at the electric carmaker, according to emails seen by Reuters.

“Pause all hiring worldwide,” he said in a message sent to executives on Thursday, just two days after the billionaire told staff to return to work or leave. The message adds to a growing chorus of warnings about the risks of recession from business leaders.

In response to the Reuters report, Tesla shares fell 9% in U.S. trade on Friday. The tech-heavy Nasdaq (.IXIC) fell about 2%.

Musk wrote to Tesla employees on Friday that Tesla will reduce salaried headcount by 10% as it has become “overstaffed in many areas,” but that “hourly headcount will increase.”

As of the end of 2021, Tesla and its subsidiaries employed almost 100,000 people, according to its annual SEC filing. Tesla did not break down the number of salaried and hourly workers.

Musk has warned of recession risks in recent weeks, but his email ordering a hiring freeze and staff cuts is the most direct and high-profile message of its kind from an automaker, while others have described sky-high demand.

“Elon Musk has unique insight into the global economy. A message from him would have high credibility,” Morgan Stanley analyst Adam Jonas said in a report.

I did these doodles a while ago and realized I hadn't posted them, so babies (and Rem) be upon thee!

Rem was pretty shocked the first time she saw Vash and Kni in their altered states. They were pretty young when that happened (probably only a week or so old), and had been scared by being left alone in a room while Rem had to go do something elsewhere. When she came back she had first thought they had disappeared until she saw the tiny wiggles coming from under the blankets.

Given Tesla did not have a chibi form, Rem was very concerned and confused lol. She adapted relatively quickly though, even if it weighed pretty heavily on her when she realized that Tesla was probably the reason why these Independents had these forms for when they were scared or hurting.

“Vash, go!” Knives’ Gate was expanded out, individual knives surrounding the town and several bladed tendrils expanding from his back.

“You made me leave you once, I’m not losing you again,” Vash gasped wetly. He stood on shaky legs and was mostly propped up by Milly.

“GO. This isn’t a request, Vash, you need to leave. Tes – Tesla will use you the way it used me and I will not let that happen.” He gently pushed on Vash’s chest with his free hand, the other sprouting blades.

Vash blinked. “You’re serious.”

“If I fail, Elendira is going to blow this whole place up. I would rather you not be caught in the fallout.” The black strip in his hair expanded a little.

Vash felt better. The hole in his chest closed enough thanks to the power Knives gave him he wasn’t bleeding out everywhere. “No. Nai, please.”

Rem told me to take care of you.

You can’t leave me again.

I’ve done a poor job of the one thing Rem asked me to do.

Vash swallowed. Tears dripped down Knives’ face. “You’re leaving me again,” Vash accused.

“I’m telling you to leave me, this time. I’ll stall here. Win or lose, I won’t let Tesla take you.” Knives faced Milly. “Please. Take Vash and go.”

With that, Knives turned and walked away. Several of his and Vash’s sisters were screaming. His (ever present) connection with Vash crackled even as he tried to force it closed.

Their song rang deeper than his ears.

It had always been the thing keeping his mind from whatever Tesla had done to him this time.

Distantly, Knives could hear Vash struggling, but he just dropped a few knives on whatever roots of Vash’s Gate tried to follow him.

He was going to take out Tesla if it was the last thing he did.
