Volume Four of TGCF is, wow.

The Blackwater Arc.

It was genuinely painful to read, the complexity of the story, and the way, it really, really, couldn't have ended another way. Masterfully done, a pleasure to read, truly.

The Brocade Immortal, well it felt a lot lighter compared to the previous Blackwater Arc indeed.

Since this was my first read through I know I've missed some things, so if there's anything cool or interesting that you particularly liked about volume four, whether in relation to the other volumes or just singular I'd love to hear it!

Genuinely curious to hear other people's experiences/perspectives on this volume!

thinking about how shi qingxuan helped xie lian out a couple times, and then they got closer and became friends, and finally sqx comes to him seeking help for the first time. and they… fail. completely. she wanted help figuring out the mystery behind her life-long greatest fear and how to defeat it or protect her from it—without alerting her brother.

Not only did they fail to defeat it, turns out it was his best friend. Not only did they fail to protect him from it, he’s lost all his power and is missing—and his entire life is a lie. And not only did they fail to prevent his brother from finding out, his brother is now dead.

The two newest editions to my collection of physical books. I haven't finished reading vol 1 of guardian yet but after being over halfway through the novel I know I already need more.

If someone were to ask me if I had to choose what TCGF volume I'd buy, straight up answering volume 4 even tho it hurts so much because it hurts so much. I'd re-read that volume and cry or be so emotional everytime.
