Batman v Ra's Al Ghul, by Neal Adams: A Bronze Age fever dream of a comic, written in 2019-2021.
Neal Adams caps off his over 50 year career with DC comics by...them letting him write a book for the first time in a decade.
Now, Adams is famous for his Bronze Age artwork, not his writing, and it's deservedly so: this is not the comic you would pick up if you were interested in award winning writing. But I have to say, it's actually something far more fun than 'good writing'.
I think the easiest way to describe the incredibly wild vibes of this title are 'Adams writes a multiverse Bronze Age time travel AU fic', where the cast technically consists of a modern set of characters (Dick is Nightwing and both Tim and Damian are Robin), but all of the characters are drawn, talking and acting like they just walked off a page in 1974 or so.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
For assistance, that's: Dick in the yellow with the very 70s black vest; Tim in the blue t-shirt; Damian in the red t-shirt; and Bruce in the suit. You end up keeping track of them in this title by their haircuts.
Bruce and Damian here cannot remember anything about being Batman and Robin; Dick and Tim appear to have shown up with a fantastical story that cannot be proven (as I said, this has INCREDIBLE reality hopping AU vibes).
Some of the characters have been mindwiped. Some of the characters are robot duplicates. A whole list of characters Adams helped create show up largely because he created them (seriously Kirk and Francine Langstrom show up for a couple of pages mostly to give Dick and Tim an airlift into a difficult to reach entrance to the Cave). Nobody sounds particularly in character at any point, but that's not really a problem in this comic, because what it really is is a giant jolt of Bronze Age style writing nostalgia direct to the brainstem.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
They don't make comics like this anymore and reading one written in the 2020s like this reinforces why.
Deadman's brother Aaron and sister Zeea show up; his brother is busy pretending to be an alternate Australian version of Batman called Marvin O'Hearn, and his sister is a psychic running around in the most 70s outfit imaginable controlling things and mindwiping Bruce on Ra's orders.
(And yes, if you too just asked 'Boston Brand has siblings???' the answer is 'kinda sorta but definitely not these two', however given Adams was writing Boston in 1968 at one point he's got as much right as anyone else to claim there are additional siblings)
There's a group who PRETEND to be the Court of Owls but secretly are a group of industrialists called The Money who want to control the world via paying for legislators, judges and industry (and yes I realise that sounds exactly like the Court's thing, but Adams was almost 80 when he wrote this, he can have an expy Court if he wants one).
Tumblr media
Bruce pretends to be Matches for a good chunk of the back end of this comic and it actually acknowledges that Matches Malone was a real gangster before he died and Bruce stole his identity (something other writers and the fandom often forget), because Adams wants one more spin with the character he designed.
There's also a moment in the sixth issue where one of Ra's pet scientists tries to sell a panel of Gotham execs on a perpetual motion machine based on electrolysis as his replacement for the current Gotham power generators and at this point I lost it giggling at the portrayal of Ra's as a cheap charlatan.
(There is also a sneaky joke that only works if you know what British salad cream is; there's this sequence of the kids talking about Alfred making sandwiches with 'crappy salad dressing' instead of mayonnaise, only this tray has been made with mayo...and it's a hint that Alfred has been replaced by a robot. I laughed; I suspect it might be non-obvious to American audiences)
This is not a comic to read if you are interested in 'main continuity' or 'coherence' or even 'good writing'. However if you want some wild antics that feel like someone's 3am fanfic AU written in pure Bronze Age vibes and to see the last work of one of Ra's Al Ghul's creators? Give it a chance. You'll never be able to predict what's on the next page.

What Child Is This? -- SanSan
I’m stretching my fandom fingers into a new ship for a fandom I don’t really write much. @lareinadehades, you’ll have to tell me if this is any good. But I hope it is!
Their Christmas Miracle - Sandor Clegane II was born December 25th at 12:35 AM to Sandor Clegane and Sansa Stark, their very own Christmas miracle.
READ @ AO3
Sansa yawned and woke up, not quite comfortable in her hospital bed. She much preferred the bed she shared with her husband Sandor, but she had an excellent reason to be dozing in a hospital bed. She had been through eighteen hours of delivery to give birth to her son Sandor Clegane II at 12:35 on Christmas Day. He was the first child born in the hospital on Christmas, and so they had gotten quite a few gifts from the hospital staff, including things they needed and things they hadn’t thought of. Arya and Gendry had already taken the things they already had to an organization that could put them to good use.
Her family had crowded in the hospital waiting room and they had ooohed and ahhhed over Sandor II for hours before leaving her to get some well-deserved rest. Her husband had been allowed to stay in the room with her and the baby, and it was because of that that she woke up to Sandor softly singing “What Child Is This?” to their son. A smile crept on her face but she stayed quiet, taking in the sight.
When he was done singing, he noticed Sansa was awake and brought the baby to her. “Our Christmas miracle was a little fussy,” he said.
“You’re going to refer to him like that for the rest of your life, aren’t you?” she asked.
“Well, I was told as a lad I would never have children. He is a miracle.”
“Are you sure he’s not someone else’s?” she teased. He had never suspected her of cheating, even when she had shown him the pregnancy test. And she never had; she loved this mountain of a man far too much to go looking elsewhere for anything she might be missing.
“Sansa, I had low sperm count, not a vasectomy. It was always possible. We just had to try often enough.”
“And when I’m discharged and feeling better, we can try and give him a little sister.”
“I think I would enjoy that very much, Little Bird.” He leaned over and kissed her forehead before she got one of the prepared bottles to supplement with breastmilk to feed her son. Sandor sat on the edge of the bed and looked down, brushing back his son’s dark hair. She rather had hoped it would be red, but the nearly black hair suited a child who already looked so much like his father.
Sandor began humming the song he had just finished while she fed Sandor II, and she leaned back into the bed, comfortable and happy and knowing Christmas would be just a bit more special every year from now on.

15. “My horoscope told me I would meet the love of my life next year.” “Then let’s meet up again after midnight.” -- Darcy/Loki
And a longer fic for my "Just Pieces On The Board" series, set more towards the beginning but after Darcy and Loki meet in the series.
Reunited (And It Feels So Good) - After nearly six months from their introduction, Loki returns to Darcy's life at Tony's New Year's Eve party.
Read @ AO3 | Buy Me A Coffee?
Darcy had to admit, even though it was just for the Avengers and the rest of those who lived in the tower, Tony Stark spared no expense for a party. She just wished things had been looking up for her and she wasn’t set to have a miserable year being alone. There had been a...thing with Loki in London, when the Avengers had chaperoned the politicians on the trip to Asgard. It was damn good sex, she’d freely admit it, but it was almost six months later and...nothing. Not that he had left her in bed alone, but he had left a few days later, ostensibly to go back to Asgard to take care of things with Thor.
Thor made trips back to see her and Jane. Loki didn’t. That was the difference.
What was it about him that drove her nuts, anyway? She couldn’t stop thinking about that week no matter how hard she tried. It was like he haunted her dreams or something.
She knocked back her glass of champagne and turned to get another one when she saw him and he saw her. It was like a homing missile; he made a beeline for her. “Loki…” she said.
He took her in his arms and kissed her as she’d never been kissed before: desperately, like she was nectar from the gods and he needed to taste her now. And she kissed him back...what else could she do? The kiss made her weak in the knees.
Finally, when she was almost on the brink of running out of breath, he pulled away, “I am sorry, Darcy. For everything.”
“That doesn’t sound good,” she said, wrinkling her brow.
“No, everything I did. Leaving without seeking you out again. Disappearing. But I can explain.”
“And you should. But you think you can let me stand up straight for a minute so I can get my bearings?”
He looked sheepish but he helped right her and then let go. His touch had been like fire, even though she knew he was part Frost Giant; the week they spent together just hadn’t been about great sex. It had been talking, too, and secret sharing, and maybe that was why it had hurt so much that he’d left her alone for so long.
“My apologies,” he said.
“It’s okay,” she replied. “Are you planning on staying for more than tonight?”
“Yes. Thor has arranged for us to stay here while Mother leads the Asgardians from Norway. Thor was taking care of most of the political discussions with her, while I was otherwise occupied.” He looked down. “I was traveling the realms, readying them for the disappearance of Asgard once the move to Earth has been completed, and with Sif’s help, making sure Earth remains neutral in dealing with those realms. The politician Mother has taken a shining to was traveling with us.”
“That’s news to me,” Darcy said.
“He’s...interesting, I suppose. Mother still mourns Odin Allfather, but I believe she may make the politician her consort in the future.”
“Which politician was it?”
“Mycroft Holmes,” Loki said. A waiter came by with a tray of champagne and Loki took two flutes, handing one to Darcy. “Yes, I realize that will make me related to an Earth family if it happens, but he is not the worst person. His brother came with us, as did the S.H.I.E.L.D. member of the family. It was an interesting time.”
“Well, that explains why Coulson was here so much,” she said, taking a sip of her champagne. “I just figured he missed Thor’s witty repartee.”
“No, we were traveling in less civilized realms, and also less technologically advanced ones. Passing details to Thor and Mother took time and effort. But the business is finished, and I can start my life here on Earth and in New York City soon. My apartment here should be ready tomorrow, Stark said.”
“Wait. You’re staying here here? In Avengers Tower?” He nodded and she grinned. “I’ll have to bake you a welcome home gift.”
“You could just stay in bed with me for another week,” he said. “Unless my absence quelled those flames?”
She set her glass down and pulled at Loki’s tie. “I haven’t really stopped seeing you in my dreams. I just thought it meant less to you.”
“Darcy, it meant more to me than you could have realized,” he said, sliding his hands to her waist as the host of the party said it was five minutes to midnight. “You haven’t been far from my thoughts as well.”
“I really should slap you for going so long without contacting me, but my horoscope told me I would meet the love of my life next year.”
“Then let’s meet up again after midnight,” he said.
“Or we could just leave the party and bring in the new year in the privacy of my apartment,” she murmured.

Looking at the Sexy times with Wangxian drama that ao3 went through (and that somehow completely missed me???? like...??? how?????? I was actively using that site and I only had heard of it, but never seen it personally????), STWW actually saved you all from me uploading the State Onigiri Multicrossover fanfic in one piece.
Tagging that monster would have single handily slayed whatever STWW had going on.

Unpopular Opinion: Look, I know they aren't really characters, they're just the musicians, BUT GIVE THE LADIES IN WAITING SOME SASSY ONE LINERS! These ladies often overlapped with all the Queens, not just the ones they're assigned in the show, and it just would have been nice, in my opinion, to hear some funny one-liners from them
(This post got messed up when I posted it, meaning I had to rewrite a lot of it so some of it may be worded weirdly! Sorry for the confusion!!!)
Okay this is actually one I disagree with, but not for the reasons you think.
I understand why people like the ladies in waiting, and I’m really glad that as a fandom we pay just as much respect to the band as the actresses. The LIW form a very important part of six and without them there would be no show to speak of, and so many other shows don’t treat the bands with enough respect. Also I totally get why people like using them in fanfics. While a short show of just 6 characters works just fine, the LIW give fanfic writers the opportunity of adding in characters for the queens to interact with while still sticking to the shows canon. I have absolutely no issue with people treating the ladies in waiting as characters, even if they just don’t personally interest me. At the end of the day, it’s all just personal preference to what characters we like and as long as we’re respectful to one another then it’s all good.
However, I do take some issue with this idea that the ladies in waiting having lines for a variety of reasons practical reasons.
Firstly, the ladies in waiting don’t have lines because they weren’t even originally a part Six. In fact...people often forget that the ladies in waiting are probably one of the newest additions to the show. While Six debuted in 2017 with the student cast, and they had a full band rather than ladies in waiting. In January 2018, the studio cast made their debut, but again they used a full band rather than sticking to four ladies in waiting. It wasn’t until the U.K. tour in the summer of 2018 that six began to use the four band structure that you see in all the shows that we have now. But the ladies in waiting were still not named within that version of the script. There was no mention of any ladies in waiting until January 2019, by which point Six had already shown itself to work brilliantly as a musical with a small cast of characters and a small band. It was tightly written, funny, light hearted (mostly), catchy musical and it worked as that. It flourished on the premise of giving 6 well known but not well understood women in history a voice.
But the script can be changed. We know the script is open to being changed, because it’s happened before! Old lines have been taken out, queens get lines swapped around, new parts have been added in etc. The Aussie and Us run have different scripts from the U.K. versions. But the problem doesn’t just lie with adding in lines...it lies with the structure of the show.
The structure of the show is what stops the ladies in waiting having lines. Six is an incredibly short musical. It’s only 75 minutes long. 70 minutes if you take out the Megasix. 65 minutes if you take out things like clapping and applause. And that is not a lot of time, especially when you’re dealing with six characters. Most shows don’t manage to have one fully fleshed out character in that space of time..never mind 6 of them. And while six does succeed at having 6 very likeable and funny characters..adding four more to that it going to throw the balance off a whole lot. Writers are actively discouraged from trying to have more than 7 main characters because it’s any more is too many, and that’s in shows with like 3 hour run times, never mind just over an hour.
And the problem is that some of the queens are already getting sidelined due to the structure of the show! Cleves, Howard and Parr don’t have nearly as many lines as Aragon, Boleyn and Seymour. And in the most likely scenario, a script change doesn’t mean the show is going to get extended, which then means all you’re doing is taking away lines from the queens, some of who don’t have many lines to begin with. Parr is virtually silent until IDNYL. Where would these extra lines for the ladies in waiting go?
But even if the show was to get an extra ten minutes of run time...wouldn’t that run time be better used fleshing out the queens (who are the main focus of the show) rather than trying to give musicians funny one liners? Again, characters like Cleves and Parr are already getting the short end of the stick, especially Cleves who loads of people mischaracterise using dangerous stereotypes. If I had the option for giving the queens extra lines or adding in lines for the ladies in waiting then I’m sorry...I’d have to pick the queens. That’s not because I hate the ladies in waiting or don’t think they deserve the love, but it’s because from a structural standpoint it makes more sense. I say that as someone who studies plays and their structure and how characters a built.
Do I understand the appeal of giving the ladies in waiting lines? Absolutely. Do I respect that some people would kill for this to happen? Totally! I’d kill for the jazz elements of six to come back, along with the violin in DLUH and for gods sake please give Cleves more lines. These things would all be nice! But at the end of the day, structure and practicality must always come first. The show must work from a structural point of view first and foremost, and everything else must come afterwards.

My opinion on reylo and why the writing forces them together (not in a good way)
First of all, I am a reylo shipper, that, however doesn't change my opinion on the subject that their relationship was the result of bad writing.
I didn't ship them when I saw TFA, because I was sure they would pull a Luke/Leia archetype and make her either Han's daughter with another woman or Luke's own daughter. I actually didn't ship her with any character (strong female lead that doesn't need a love interest) and was sure the relationship between Poe and Finn would develop as the "romantic ideal" (it's space, they don't need to have heteronormativity). Rey was supposed to be the Luke of this trilogy, too busy with being a Skywalker and having to save some family member from the dark side, blablabla. But it made sense.
TLJ however, proved me wrong. She wasn't a Skywalker, but she had a connection to the last of them. The franchise is supposed to tell the Skywalker story, so, if you're making the main character be "no one" (and I did really like the idea that you don't need to inherit the force from a big name already. Force sensitivity is not royal blood) it only makes sense to be building for that character to be a Skywalker in the future, this time by marriage.
We were shown a lot less than enough to really promote the idea that Ben Solo was worth saving, the whole space Nazi shit and all. But we were exposed to the idea that he was manipulated since a child by the dark side and abandoned and betrayed by his family (totally out of character, Leia's adoptive father raised her while leading a rebellion, Han - as shown in solo - always had the need for family and belonging, Chewie wasn't even added to the equation even though we all know he would raise that child alone if he had to, and lastly, Luke, the one that saw good in Vader, a man that destroyed entire species/planets and chose to go to the dark side even when he had his loved ones there for support, but like could not sense a scared teenager feeling left aside by his parents and tortured by some dark being).
Here is not to say I condone the shit kylo did, nor do I agree with the writing of the character (Adam driver is the biggest reason why the character even works for me, his acting often conveying more hidden emotion and suffering than necessary) but if Rey is to be a main character, if we're not to accompany Ben's journey, but rather her's, then they have to be together at the end, otherwise they are just shiting all over the original trilogy (not that they didn't).
Finn and Poe, however, are left aside for the duration of the movie, both separated from each other to appear straight and Rose's character is introduced and poorly used. We could have a good dynamic between her, Finn, Poe and Rey. She was raised inside the resistance just as much as Poe. She lost her sister thanks to both Poe and Kylo's plans. She could be the one to point out just how bad war is, doesn't matter the side. She could bond with Rey on being a girl with no family and not really a purpose before the resistance. They could talk to each other! Instead they send her to a wild goose chase with Finn and force her to almost kill herself to stop Finn's sacrifice not because "she already saw so many people sacrificing themselves in order to win battles that only continue a much bigger war" showing how much her sister's death impacted her views on heroism and strategy and empathy, no! They make her confess to him and pass out.
TROS is the worst one yet. So many plot holes. Ooc behaviour. The whole movie is a first grade collage made with shitty magazines and chewing gum.
Rey being a Palpatine? Erasure of the whole idea with the children in the end of TLJ
Leia training to become a Jedi? Why tf find Luke then? Also, the whole thing with "if I end my training my son will die" but not batting an eye when her brother tries to KILL said son? Bullshit.
The whole Leia characterisation is bullshit, she would have entered the base herself, killed smoke (since they didn't even make it hard to begin with) and taken her son back to the resistance by the ear.
Poe suddenly becoming a Don Juan type? The guy was only flirting with Finn during the first movie and too busy disobeying orders during the second one. His parents we resistance pilots, Leia knew him since he was a child, but sure, make him a smuggler I guess. Not like they didn't already fuck every other part of his character up, making him petty and more focused on the numbers than the ideals of the resistance.
Finn clearly liking Rey and not even being allowed to say it (if she was a Skywalker I would be totally in on the ship, because it would make sense) and being treated like a joke the whole movie? His friendship with Jannah was good, but why make it as "the force" and not common decency? Why couldn't the have chosen to leave the first order themselves? Don't get me wrong, I was thirsting for a Jedi Finn to be like Mace Windu and everything but it breaks the idea that Finn did what he did in TFA because he's simple a good person. It shatters the possibility of free will in the Star Wars franchise.
Ben dying, his character not talking a word after the redemption, he not having a purple lightsaber, he going to battle and getting decked by the Knights of Ren (characters I was so hyped to meet since the first movie) until he gets a lightsaber, the boy was supposed to be so amazing he could just shoot a blaster and force manipulate the shot to kill all of them. We have seen him stop a blaster shot before, it would be paying off that same scene.
Palpatine's plan not making any fucking sense. He could find and manipulate Ben solo, but couldn't locate his own granddaughter? Also, he can create life (anakin) but needs her to kill him so the sith can continue? Just create another one.
Rey's parents sacrificing their lives to keep her safe, she sensing how much the suffered, (not even gonna talk about the 'they sold you for drinking money' because no) and still not giving a single flying fuck about it? Choosing to take the name of the people that knew who she was and didn't tell her? The people that drove Ben solo to a path of loneliness and darkness so much that he clang to the idea of his dead grandfather to have any sense of belonging at all (again, so out of character) she could have used her mother's maiden name or any other.
Ben dying because he could not have shared his force energy with the person MOST COMPATIBLE TO HIM IN THE ASPECTS OF THE FORCE and survived. Their kiss that felt desperate and still hopeful that she would make him find that family he wanted so much. Only to have him and Leia "become one with the force" the next second? Do you think Leia herself would peacefully die right after her own son died?
Do you think the ghost of Anakin Skywalker would reach out to Rey and not to his own grandson? Do you think that any of this is good writing?
It is not
I ship reylo for what it could have been, but I also ship stormpilot, reyfinn and many others.
Lastly I want to address how toxic shipping in any fandom, but specifically this fandom, built from the ideals of what white males in the 70's thought appealing, can be. Reylo's and non reylo's alike created turmoil with each other, and went even further and harassed the actors (whom didn't have any power to chance the bad writing) it is obvious why John, Oscar, Kelly and others hated this whole experience. The movie was badly written in a way to be a huge way of selling merch with as little intention of being good, the actors were constantly harassed by the fans be it for their characters or their skin colour or how they we shut down by a big company more interested in selling a shitty version of a Star Wars fanfic written in the 90's.
The fandom needs to see it for what it is and stop harassing others. Instead unite and harass Disney for their money hungry ideals and constrictive politics on racial/sexual/feminist matters.

Hi, everyone! This week’s interview is with @jacquelineshyde / PoetDameron, an author who’s been posting her That ‘70s Show fanfic and poetry since 2016. Her prose and poetry have a gracefulness to them, in both imagery and subtext. Shades of emotion blend into one another, giving us a deeply complex and satisfying exploration of the characters.
The interview has been split into two parts. This is part 1.
Those ‘70s Comics:  What first inspired you to write That '70s Show fanfic?
jacquelineshyde: The bad ending. After watching season 8, there were a lot of things I had to say about it and about how things went down between Hyde and Jackie. It made me sick how the writers let go of such [a] wonderful couple and great characters, so I first started having ideas of how to fix the season; then I started ignoring the hell out of it and [created] plots out of season 7's mess. After a while, the ideas started to [gel] and make me want to try writing [stories]. Inspiration came quickly; it stormed my brain, and the words came out one after the other until I had three one-shots and two chapters of what today is Heart Like Yours (HLY: FFnet / AO3).
T7C: What was the first fanfiction story you ever wrote, posted or unposted, and for what fandom?
jacquelineshyde:  It was a five-page piece about dogs [on] vacation, written when I was five-years-old. A Lady and the Tramp fanfiction. Isn't it funny that fandom tends to compare that story with Hyde and Jackie? I must have a type for OTPs.
T7C: In addition to prose, you also write poetry for That '70s Show -- from Hyde's point of view, in particular. It's full of evocative, sensory, and sensual imagery. What inspired you to write poetry for T7S and from Hyde's point of view?
jacquelineshyde: The first poem I wrote for [Hyde and Jackie] is called “so don't lose hope”. It's about how Hyde believes Jackie always had everything but suddenly, out of nowhere, she wants him -- even when he has nothing and can't give her any (material) things.
This poem was inspired by Hyde yelling, "No, you don't!" at Jackie when she tells him he believes he is "the sweetest, coolest guy [she has] ever met" (”Moon Over Point Place” [2x26]). [That moment] made me think [that] he can't accept anyone thinking so highly of him (aside from the fact that she was [...] disrespectful of his personal space and life during those episodes [...]). Hyde's POV is very difficult for me. At first I thought it was [that] I had a hard time liking the character during seasons 1 and 2, but then I realized it was [that] he reminds me of two people in my life: myself and Someone Else. Someone Else always had this way of speaking that made me see the color purple in different tones inside my head -- and black melting into grey and then white -- and starless nights that get rainy, and I started to associate Hyde [with] all that imagery. My mind kept [conjuring] another image every time I tried to do Hyde's POV: a girl laughing on a comfy nest of blankets, with her cheeks pink and her nose red, and black hair everywhere on the pillows, tiny fingers touching his face, and Mila Kuni's bicolor eyes (I know Jackie's eyes are brown, but it's a mental image, and I've been liking MK since Forgetting Sarah Marshall). The image of the sun came afterward, and I thought of how much I loved my first girlfriend and how much I loved Someone Else, and the poetry came along. Hyde does show a [...] talent for [mental quickness with] words [in “Jackie Bags Hyde” (3x08) when he comes up] with the haiku (lol), and he is shown to read a lot and be insightful, a brilliant mind who tries to hide behind a lazy mask. [All of this developed into the Jackie on My Mind Poetry Project, written in] a black Moleskine, and a boy who tried to avoid the monster under his bed that turned out to be his own mother, [a boy] who then fell in love and realized it was possible for someone else to love him.
T7C: What's your process for writing poetry?
jacquelineshyde:  Well, I actually don't think I have one. When I write, I don't think, I don't eat, I don't sleep. It just happens. Poetry is easy for me [to write] for some reason. I never think about it because maybe if I do, I will try to make it perfect, and the shine will be gone. I tend to ruin my own stuff when I want it to be perfect, so I don't give it much thought. Maybe the solid answer would be that I get a word or a image, and I want to put it down in a [short monologue], and the poetry comes.
T7C: Does a particular mood, thought, or emotion you want to explore inspire the beginning of a poem?
jacquelineshyde: Most times, yes. When I get a prompt for poetry, the first thing I do is [make a] list in my head about what the prompt makes me think, then what it makes me believe, and finally what it makes me feel. This all happens in [a matter] of seconds, and then [the poem] just goes [from there].
T7C: What's one of your favorite Jackie/Hyde moments from That '70s Show? And what's one of your least favorites?
jacquelineshyde:  A favorite would be Jackie telling Hyde she can't stop him from breaking up with her [in “Babe, I’m Gonna Leave You” (5x14)] but that it would be a [waste] since she has fallen for him. I believe she knew [she loved him] for a while [before] that moment, and I also believe it wasn't truly her intention that her first, “I love you,” would come out like that, but she was also sure he needed to hear it (after four seasons of manipulating Kelso into staying with her and making it clear she was not going to let [Kelso] go until she said otherwise). Hyde is very vulnerable during this moment, and the entire arc is incredible when it comes to his feelings. She shows a growth she didn't have during her first relationship, and it says [a lot] about her and her relationship with Hyde. She understands where lines are drawn and that she can't control him or make him love her back. All she can do is love him and wait for him to understand it's real. And he does. And the one I hate, no doubt, is [in “Winter” (7x11)]: Hyde making this idiotic face at Jackie [when she asks] him if he seriously preferred to play with stolen toys instead of going with her [to the Ladies of Point Place party], even knowing he had broken a promise to her. It's the worst thing the writers could have done to him. The second I saw the moronic and asshole way he acts during this whole episode, I felt like it was the beginning of the nightmare that followed [during] the rest of season 7 -- and then the pit of despair that is season 8.
I hate the episode “Winter” with all my being. And, believe me, I'm going to quote my acting professor on this, "Don't underestimate Nina's capacity for rage out of dislike."
T7C: Of all the T7S fanfics you've written so far (or are in the middle of writing), which are you the most proud of?
jacquelineshyde: I must say I love my upcoming story Wear My Arms. It's a Hyde/Jackie Soulmate AU, in which one [experiences] the life of one’s soulmate for an hour, [as if watching] a movie. You fall asleep, and you see [your soulmate’s] life through [his or her] eyes for an hour. Hyde sees Jackie's life during season 1 when they aren't on good terms, and the story goes from that on. The entire fic is an ode to Hyde's complex character, his big capacity for love, how much he [grows] to love Jackie and -- through [his love for her, learns to love] himself. [Wear My Arms] has helped me a lot [in writing from] his POV and in my understanding of his character. Not to mention, this is literally the story of my poetry project Jackie on my Mind. This is the story where Hyde writes poetry and gets to see Jackie laughing in a nest of blankets. I'm very excited for other people to read this story!
