Well we have an answer to Pip's mystery liver problems. She has a shunt that has a lot of parts and is inoperable. Right now she is doing well, so we are going to manage with diet change to STUPID expensive liver food and continuation of supportive meds. Prognosis is??? She could live forever with it or it could go sideways at some point and we just don't know. For now we get to keep doing everything we want.
Think of sweet girl tonight if you please.

It's taken us EIGHT YEARS but Flynn has gone from a dog who was so scared of physical contact, he'd bite me if he even thought I might try to touch him, to - just within the past month or so - deciding that maybe... maybe... being stroked & patted & having his ears scritched & his fur ruffled... can actually feel quite... nice?!!!!
He approaches, soft-eyed, ears back, waggy-tailed & wiggly & then positions himself so that I can give him a fuss, shuffling closer & leaning into my hand slightly. Lets me stroke the fur along his back & sides, bury my fingers in the fluff around his neck. His ears are soft.
Anyway, for most people & their dogs, this pic would be a sweet but unremarkable moment - a scene replayed thousands of times over, but for Flynn it is a huge milestone. A photo I cannot believe I took!

im all for making fun of and criticizing the way booktok (and booktube) aestheticize reading to an insane degree, making it more about being percieved as a reader more than like. actually reading. but some people on here lump the most normal things ever into the booktok consumerism pile?
like yes, booktok/tube places a lot of emphasis on the visuals of "reading", but then someone on here just went and said that simply "not wanting to damage your books" is a stupid booktok thing??? what? it's not vain or pretentious to care about your posessions, especially if they mean a lot to you. simply wanting your books to remain in good condition is not the same as having 100 unread books, or five editions of the same book, or books you hated, purely because they look nice.
and someone else said that having a yearly reading goal was also a stupid booktok/tube thing? since when? i've met people who set themselves yearly reading goals before youtube even existed. it's literally just a new years resolution, but tailored to a specific hobby?

So no clue what the phenomenon is called, but I've got that thing of "whenever you hear noises you have to repeat them" thing that some ADHD people have. It's not an always thing for me, but I do it A Lot when I'm out birding. I'm no good at it, of course, as I have a human mouth and no syrinx (a bird's voicebox), but that doesn't stop the chickadees from thinking some kid-chickadee is singing really badly in their territory, as chickadees love to throw down.
The problem is when you repeat a Barred Owl song (because ohmygod their song is amazing!) and the male of the pair thinks you sound juuuuuuuuust enough like an owl that he decides to scope your location. The amount of impulse control you gain when faced with the fact an owl would gladly smack the back of your head for singing terribly is incredible.

by this point, my frustration is justified--if i have:
1) already mentioned in multiple replies that a fic is on hiatus
2) bolded its status and my reasons in the end note
3) added the status and a warning that i will delete comments of the type in my summary
why do i still get asked whether or not i'll ever update again? and that's all they have to say?
becoming increasingly concerned there's a subset of bil readers that don't know how to read or pay attention in a hobby that requires reading comprehension and an attention span
