do you think avaya hates hydaelyn/venat for (temporarily) taking minfilia away from her??

im so serious i started cackling maniacally when i saw this ask. IM SO GLAD YOU ASKED.

i have to preface this with: i love venat i think she is a great character and she made me feel so many things. unfortunately a'vaya sucks soso bad.

so a'vaya was never really into The Echo. she was not fond of being Chosen or anything like that. she saw it as a giant pain and she kind of just dealt with it because like, what the hell is she gonna do. minfilia was, of course, BIG into hydaelyn and they kind of clashed about it sometimes but overall it was Fine in ARR.

bloody banquet rolls around however, and shit hits the fan. when minfilia says hydaelyn calls to her, a'vaya is not having ANY OF IT. begging with minfilia not to go, along the lines of "what the fuck has hydaelyn ever done for either of us!" to which of course minfilia disagrees. i will not get into what minfilia says to a'vaya in that sewer-- which is 100% a love confession all without the words "i love you"-- but despite a'vaya pulling on her so hard that there were indents on her hands and arms where she was holding, minfilia leaves. and a'vaya stays standing there for a long time before she flees.

so immediately there's a feeling of betrayal-- minfilia picked hydaelyn over her (NOT THE RIGHT THING TO BE THINKING) and has gone missing, but she slowly regains hope that she'll be able to find her again. the hope grows when she meets up with y'shtola and thancred again, so obviously minfilia is next! Um,

the antitower is very very very bad.

so a'vaya had already felt like minfilia left her for hydaelyn, but this is minfilia we're talking about! she's always going to be there for her, even if they're apart for a while. that's what a'vaya started telling herself as 3.0 + 3.x started getting less Dire. the word of the mother WRECKS a'vaya. this is the first time a'vaya cries in msq. during that scene where she's pulled to talk to her in the aetherial sea and the WOTM is giving her all this Important Information, a'vaya isn't listening at all. she's calling and begging minfilia to stop saying any of this and just look at her! please just stop and look at me, I'm BEGGING you! but of course, the wotm isn't really minfilia! and once a'vaya realizes this, she switches from "minfilia, look at me!" to "LET MINFILIA GO!" it heightens when she sees that the WOTM is weaker/in pain.

a'vaya comes out of it, and she's immediately SCREAMING her heart out, full on sobbing so much that she can't see. she's cursing and yelling out to hydaelyn that she's going to kill her with her own two hands, that she'll shatter the mother crystal no matter what, that hydaelyn will either give minfilia back or pay. she's so lost in grief and rage that some dormant inner beast power from her warrior days mixes with her current dark knight abilities and uh... she cleaves a hole in the antitower... haha...

this is a lot of explaining just to say: a'vaya wants hydaelyn dead for a long time. she believes that she's taken minfilia prisoner, or that she's undeserving of minfilia's loyalty, and just generally that she should never put faith in a crystal to tell her how to live. after her outburst in the antitower, she stops getting any messages from hydaelyn. there's not any contact, any sort of aid, nothing-- whether that's because hydaelyn did not or could not reach out due to a lack of strength, or because a'vaya was so deep in rage that she just could not be reached is unknown. the disdain grows when she learns that hydaelyn (and zodiark) are primals, she's not at all keen on the idea that she's been tempered this whole time.

so with all that, you'd probably think that with how stubborn a'vaya is that she'd carry that despise to venat in elpis. she could have, if it weren't for minfilia's sudden return. it's very confusing for everyone, nobody knows why she came back, least of all the woman herself. a'vaya feels Very complex emotions about all of it, but once she comes to terms with the fact that minfilia was back For Good she slowly started to soften to the idea of hydaelyn. she's still very tense about her, don't get me wrong, she does believe that this is some sort of elaborate ploy. but at the same time, hydaelyn... gave her the biggest desire she's had for over 5 years...?

the thing is, a'vaya did accept that minfilia was dead. and minfilia ALSO accepted that she was dead, so this is a very difficult situation for her because what do you do when your purpose in life has already been fulfilled? (just you wait until i get into how minfilia fits perfectly into endwalker) Everyone Is So Confused .

when a'vaya gets to elpis and meets venat, she really doesn't know how to feel. she doesn't get hostile because by endwalker a'vaya has gotten a much better grasp on keeping her emotions together, but there's definitely a wariness, and venat detects this. when a'vaya explains the situation she's in, i think venat recognizes that she (in the future) caused a'vaya an unbearable amount of pain and grief. and they do address it with "has your journey been good? has it been worthwhile?" and a'vaya can't answer at first. she's caught up on the fact that her journey was set in motion because of her connection to her/hydaelyn, and that journey was devastating and destructive, but she would never want anyone else to do it for her. she's caught on how hydaelyn had to take away the woman that taught her to love and live in a better way, but eventually returned her. what is she meant to think of that? how is venat supposed to feel, being told "i wanted to destroy you and everything you stood for, but now i know you did it because you knew i could." being told "your guidance hurt me so badly that i wanted to throw myself at every sword i could and see which one would stick." being told "im in love with the reincarnation of your beloved, and you needed her break herself for the better and then gave her back to me"

all in all, a'vaya's relationship with venat is... hard to describe. they are immensely grateful that either of them are who they are. that they did exactly what they did. that they could talk, as friends, like they should be, just once.

until the mother crystal trial, of course. but in that moment, a'vaya recognizes that she's not the one who needs to speak to hydaelyn the most-- minfilia is. i haven't finalized a lot of that conversation, but i just think about how complex the relationship is with these three, the level of hurt as well as trust between them, and i want to WEEEEEEP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

endwalker anni thoughts

I had mixed/positive feelings on first playthrough - as is pointed out by many, endwalker has some absolutely bonkers good sections, but some stuff that didn’t quite gel.  Mostly I was relieved they didn’t undermine the good story themes from previous xpacs, a rare feat compared to a few other franchises ending big storylines around this time frame.

Starting about 8 months ago I did a full end-to-end MSQ+8 man raids playthrough on a fresh character and my overall impression of EW was, happily, much improved!  It still has its weak scenes (compared to the rock-solid ShB MSQ) but on end-to-end play, the headcanons of the long post-5.3 break had faded, and the opening ARR themes sang with Endwalker.  Knowing where Zenos was going eventually made me notice different things (esp with @asleepinawell bringing new insights as we were going through together) as well as some relief at knowing which less-good storylines would drop off.  There was a surprising amount of dialogue I’d glossed over the first time, ESPECIALLY in Endwalker, that on second playthrough I noticed more and led to more pieces falling into place. The episodic nature of 6.0 did not stick out when blasting through the whole thing in one go either, it may as well have been a series of patches for all my brain cared.  

Ultimately the feat of having such a vast story told over so many years with so many writers have SO few retcons or thematic changes is remarkable.  It’s a fun experience!  It felt like the way it was made to be played - and for new players, how it will be from now on.

- an original monster of mine

- this is only it's muscular system

- fun fact: in this section of the body, there are 116 muscles represented here (not necessarily all visble but i know theyre there)

- malus venator <- Latin for 'wicked hunter'

- developed to be a stalking type monster with an angular body, the ears of a moose, claws and teeth, extremely articulated bones for easy and fluid movements, has thick, oily fur, and is capable of swimming underwater for extended periods of time because of adaptive gills on its throat

- prefers to stalk at night based on scent and heat signature

- strangely quiet (if you think you heard it, it's already too close to escape)

- capable of standing on its back two legs and looking like a tall person from afar (not a skin-walker, but the same idea of drawing in human prey)

- has a very throaty and scratchy yowl, like it's voice doesn't want to come out because its so used to being quiet

- will follow prey across miles of land and water without ever being noticed.

- due to their large range and loss of habitat/mating ground, they've been driven to find caves to make homes of. Once a colony in habits it's cave, they will find the nearest deep body of water and mate in its depths. Young are raised in the deepest parts of the caves, living on their mother's milk, rodents, bats, and anything dumb enough to go that deep.

- the background is because, when face to face with it (and in close enough range), this guy comes with an aura of fear that is irrational and all consuming, preventing prey from moving when it's ready to finally strike

CORUSCANT HCS BUT THE GAR KNOW ABOUT THE ABUSE

the GAR will help any guards on duty whether its giving them a small break by taking their post or catching a criminal on the run

most shinies don't get it until their first to coruscant

its very sad but every GAR clone has some experience helping a guard clone (tho helping shinies are hard to come by as they are kept to the prisons; the hate feels less personal and lets them get a thick skin)

crime goes down when the GAR visits and all but stops when the Marine Corps visits as the Marines take way to much pleasure in beating up criminals

often times to up the intimidation, the GAR won't wear their blacks when they do visit and instead walk around in full armor

the GAR medics will often take shifts at the Gaurd HQ to both give them a break and to help teach their shinies in a less time sensitive setting (well, thats if there isn't any terror attacks or explosions)

during this time, things often go missing from venators but no one makes a fuss about it

bacta tanks, blankets, armor, blasters, medical supplies of all kinds, rations (including pudding cups), and sometimes they'll let guards use their water rations for showers on the venator (though monnk's battalion makes this a habit as they get more water than the other battalions)

the guard shinies that slip through the cracks and are put on senate duty are given special attention, with many troopers loitering around to give them an out if need be

unfortunately, there have been several occaisions of guard troopers running from aids and senators

Troopers try and help when they can but sometimes it just isn’t enough

GAR troopers make it a habit of visiting the Guard barracks to at least comfort them when they can

Skywalkers apart au! It's so precious that Anakin gets to be a dad, a rebellion general Dad but he gets to be there for at least one of them and Padme survives and gets to be a mom and maybe someday they get to meet and it's so good.

Also the concept of General Skywalker of the Rebellion feels like it has so much potential cause he was such a big figure in the Clone Wars, he was the Hero, the General, he could probably get the various splinter rebel cells (they were very divided in the early Rebellion) to follow him by sheer reputation and charisma. Imagine Anakin being at Hoth, like the attack is going along the usual Imperial imminent victory and suddenly an AT-AT has been thrown clear across the landscape and an announcement sounds out "General Skywalker has entered the field" cue Rebel Counterattack due to morale boost and Imperial Panic.

What happened to the 501st here? Did he go to the Venator's crash site where Ahsoka was during Order 66 what did he think when he saw all the dead folks?

Fun thought, Starkiller being the apprentice in this AU, means that Sidious has probably been comparing him to Anakin (in part because he's bitter he didn't fall, in other part cause it's great for fueling the darkside) for years so the first time they face off he's gonna be full of spiteful hatred (all going according to plan) before Starkiller gets styled on by the Skywalker, cause Anakin isn't crippled by the suit and that means he's still massively powerful in the force and skilled in the blade (Vader was too, but less than a whole Anakin), I could see Anakin pulling a Lightside version of the Rogue One Hallway scene against Stormtroopers (or even inquisitors).

Rebel General Anakin Skywalker would be an Imperial Boogeyman.

Leia would probably appreciate it for a while but also she'd get a bit annoyed about her dad's reputation and "Legend" and the fact that she's probably got that entire thing to measure up to, making her more reckless or foolhardy. That's a big shadow to live under.

Padme on the other hand is probably in a very different situation reputation wise, she was the senator for the new Emperor's home planet, she's the old queen of naboo from the Trade Federation attack, she's a founding member of one of the oldest discrete rebellion cells but that still leaves some stigma. She's probably so very worried about Imperial surveilance on her or Luke or the rest of her family, and it doesn't help that the Inquistorious has probably been sniffing around for a while.

ok this is a veeeeery long ask so i'm gonna have a veeeery long answer which is gonna go under this readmore:

YES!! yes absolutely! tbh i decided a while back he never gets an official promotion to general, everyone just calls him General Skywalker for so long that it sticks loll. BUT YEAH I mean working with a Jedi is rare and awe-inspiring enough for any rebellion cell but working with the hero with no fear??? half the rebels are wondering if they can interrupt this mission to ask for his autograph

its extra funny bc for the first few years of the empire he's lowkey depressed and like agh i failed the order republic AND my family i'm a terrible horrible no good jedi who nearly turned to the dark side and while he's having this spiral there's some rebel standing next to him pointing and pogging

and yeah he's SO useful in big battles like that!! he's half a legend, half a ghost story, given most ppl think he died in the Purge but here he is, enacting justice on the empire!! tho he does struggle on quieter missions (which happen a lot more at first bc gotta hide from the empire) that you cant just blaze into. its a difficult shift to go from clone wars general skywalker to rebel general skywalker

yeah 501st same as canon ): but OHHH MY GOD yes thats SUCH A PERFECT IDEA, Anakin going with Rex and Ahsoka to the site and mourning them all (and probably going into another depression spiral lbr)

youre so right lollll obvs leia loves the one up she has in an argument of "well my dad's general skywalker, beat that" but as u say she absolutely wants to live up to that (+ is a very independent/stubborn person and would like Leia Skywalker, not just "General Skywalker's daughter" lol)

AND YEAH ABSOLUTELY Padmé and Anakin's roles in this au are both so interesting (is that egotistical to say) bc they're these upside down versions of their clone wars roles, both very loud people forced to quieten down and be Discreet about how they go abt helping ppl. Padmé is really struggling hiding so much (luke's force sensitivity, her rebel activities, all relations to anakin) and trying to protect Luke while helping the Rebellion WHILE trying not to seem suspicious. a lot on her plate -- only made worse by palpatine keeping a close-ish eye on her, and she can't tell why (is it bc of luke? the rebellion? anakin? or is it just his old favouritism or patriotism being VERY inconvenient??)

on the inquisitors, obvs you don't see a lot of them on coruscant -- but padmé's SO scared abt ppl (MAINLY SIDIOUS WHO, YA KNOW, TRIED TO TURN LUKE'S DAD SITH) finding out abt him and she hates that she's making him repress this part of himself but what choice does she have???

Rex shifts his weight, and the sweaty skin of his back where his tank top ran up unsticks off the plastic with a too-loud, slightly ridiculous noise. At his side, Cody snorts and turns to look at him without moving from his sprawl on the floor. They’re almost close enough to touch, if not quite: if Rex twisted his right ankle that tiny bit, if he stretched his fingertips—but he doesn’t. Rex blinks and looks away, back at the ceiling.

It’s far enough into the night cycle they will really regret it come morning. The work out rooms have been empty for hours now, the wide expanse echoing with the noise of their breathing, with the hum and groan of the Venator’s engines. Rex breathes in, opens his mouth, exhales without saying anything. He should go to bed—he doesn’t want to. His cot in the cramped room he shares with Appo and the others doesn’t sound nearly as tempting as staying where he is, on his back on the harsh, unforgiving floors of the gym, sharing a crackling kind of silence with Cody. 

If he just—reached out. One hand, five fingers, his palm, Cody’s arm. His bare shoulder or the thin fabric of his tank top, his heart beating strong and steady in his chest. Rex clears his throat and doesn’t turn to look at Cody when he listens to him shifting: his ears feel hot. 

I should go to bed.

The words weigh down his tongue: Rex can feel them rolling up his throat, sticking on his palate, sticking to his teeth. I should go to bed: so should you.

But Rex says nothing, and neither does Cody, and isn’t that something. It’s so late it’s almost early, and Rex has two campaigns worth of a sleep debt, and here he is, wanting to reach out and touch, knowing himself wanted in turn.

Cody exhales. Rex blinks again, turns to look at him: the mat is cold and clammy under his cheek. Cody’s frowning, staring at the ceiling. He looks like shit, too thin, patchy stubble on his jaw and his curls too long, dark circles under his eyes. Rex wants him so badly it makes him feel self-conscious, so he looks away, ears so hot they seem to burn, and closes his eyes.

“I sh—”

A whisper of sweaty skin on rubbery mats and then: Cody’s smell, the weight of his attention, his mouth.
