I don't have the time at the moment to write a full essay but someone should definitely remind me to write a post later on the phenomenon that is Ratio's assholery being sanded away by well-meaning fans.

In a quest to fight against the "Ratio is a condescending jerk" stereotype from Ratio haters, pro-Ratio fans have now swung too far the other way, making him into a saint who loves everyone, isn't disdainful of failure, and believes every single person can equally pull themselves up out of mediocrity.

None of those things are actually true based on the game itself, where Ratio is, in fact, a judgmental person who struggles to accept the mundanity of those around him, believes in an educational elite, and can be exceptionally condescending, whether he means it or not.

He's a flawed character. His own flaws are absolutely central to his character, in fact. And yet none of his flaws preclude him from being meaningful, nuanced, and likeable.

It's okay that he's not actually that nice.

In defending a character from one extreme ("he's a bad person"), we don't have to jump all the way to the other side ("he's an angel").

He can be a little bit of a dick and still be a great character, promise.

Some of y'all would rather blame people who've had nothing whatsoever to do with your religious trauma than heal and it's bloody obnoxious, to be honest.

Your trauma is valid and should never have happened to you. But the whole world ain't your scapegoat, and neither is trauma an excuse to be a dickbag.

And quite frankly, "I should be allowed to be nasty because I have trauma" is manipulative as hell. Shit like this is what turns victims into abusers.

I was thinking about people on my feed saying "If you're an influencer/youtuber its inevitable that you're gonna be a groomer" and honestly, that's bullshit. if you're a popular influencer and are acting weird with your young audience that's a YOU problem. cause there's a fundamental difference between acting nice to your younger audience and making inappropriate moves on them. cause there's a lot of youtubers who's majority of fans are young or started watching them when they were young, and weren't met with weird shit.

(To add on to this, I'm not buying Dreams "apology". I've seen so many people saying "I'm so proud of him" and I'm gonna say that if Dream was truly innocent and Knew that he was innocent, he would have been able to come against these allegations almost Immediately saying "These are wrong, and they're wrong because A, B and C" not taking 3 months to make a 2 and a half hour long video with a bunch of "evidence" that could just as easily been faked. but that's just my thoughts on that...)
