New Mature Content Warning Overlay (And How to Get Rid of It)
More fun community label "features"! Unlike the new mandatory label for #NSFW, this one is a bigger deal to me because it affects my entire blog and it can't be avoided by just using a different tag.
Apparently on custom blog layouts, if you happen to post or reblog even a SINGLE post that's been flagged with the mature content community label, a full-page warning overlay will appear blurring out your entire blog that must be manually clicked through every single time the page is refreshed. At first I thought this was just a bug due to my older layout but I've come to realize it's not. It's a feature (as confirmed by this recent changes post) that affects all custom themes. The formatting will vary based on your own theme but here's what it looks like on my blog:
Tumblr media
I don't know about you but I find this is stupid and annoying. If it could be dismissed once and never seen again that might be one thing, but that's not the case. The vast majority of my blog is not "mature" enough to warrant such an aggressive and invasive warning. I also think pop-ups are obnoxious in general and I'll be damned if tumblr's going to force me to have one on MY blog.
After some desperate googling for a known workaround and being unable to find even a single mention of it, I decided to take on the challenge myself. I'm not a theme coder, so apologies if there's a better way to do this, but luckily it only took me like 10 minutes to figure out a simple fix, which I'm now sharing with anyone else who may want it:
.community-label-cover__wrapper {display: none}
Just copypaste that somewhere in your CSS and goodbye pop-up!
If you're not sure how to access your theme code, check out this help article. You can also add the code via the Advanced Options menu, which is actually even better (if you can get it to work, it depends on how your theme was coded), because it will then automatically be reapplied to a lot of themes without having to remember to manually add it every time if you change your theme in the future.
Obviously this will only remove it from your own blog for anyone who may visit it. If you never want to see this warning again on other people's blogs you can also add this custom filter to your ad block:
tumblr.com##.community-label-cover__wrapper
Unfortunately I do not have an easy tutorial on hand for this one as the method will depend on your specific ad block app or extension.
Some additional notes:
After adding the theme code and saving the changes, give it a minute to update as it sometimes takes a little while for the page to refresh.
The warning overlay only seems to appear if a "mature" post is on the FIRST page of your blog, which is still annoying and makes the whole thing even more pointless and stupid because what if someone visits any other page of your blog, and oh no, happens to see "mature" content they weren't warned about?!
The warning also appears on direct links to "mature" posts.
This hack has NOTHING to do with entire blogs that have been flagged as NSFW. It only works for non-flagged blogs with custom themes that happen to have individual "mature" posts.

I just hate it when people try to 'fix' WWX's fear of dogs.
The dude has a legitimate reason to be frightened of them after what he's been through and as long as it doesn't affect his life and make him miserable - which it really doesn't, he's scared and runs off and now he's got a hit husband to save him and make him feel safe - why make it an issue?
Not everyone likes dogs, not everyone has to compromise and face a fear because someone else has a dog.
Why is it always WWX who has to 'get over' his fear in these fanfics? Why aren't others more understanding of his fears and keeping the dog away or leaving it at home - which you'll notice canon JL actually starts to do, especially in the extra when they are on a night-hunt.
I just think it's really inconsiderate of people to down play WWX's fear and make him "get over it" so he can play happy families as some double uncle team with JC - which is less likely to happen than WWX getting over his fear of dogs! Then again, considering the plot dynamic of these "fix it" fics, full of ooc shit they wouldn't do... I guess I shouldn't be surprised.

i think one reason i'm such a big hater over ppl who wail about how "THATS NOT CANON" is bc treating canon as a rule book and how-to-fanfiction manual just destroys the purpose of fanfiction in the first place????

i do not know where i saw the take that acofaf character choices were 2/3 poignant parallels for queer experience and 1/3 hot mess bird drama as a treat -- but i didn’t need confirmation from chirp that she was in love with a woman (not forgetting squak and theodore in EP TWO) to know that the lords of the wing have had equally queer stories from the start. they are trying to please a disapproving patriarch. they are searching for marital matches that will not benefit them individually. they are notorious for being messy, promiscuous and shit-stirring. they are to jumping through hoops to stay true to themselves behind closed doors. they are hiding big secrets. up to now they were even keeping things from each other. and they are balancing all that with tireless maneuvering that results in a mature, hospitable reputation. idk that sounds outrageously -- and loudly -- queer to me.
anyway there are layers and layers upon closets in the vastness of the queer experience. not all those stories are about coming out.
sometimes they’re about arriving fashionably late on an ostrich-chariot pulled by doves.

The sexism of Gale Gossip's name doesn't come from just "Oh she's a girl", and it’s not made okay because it can also be about news.
The sexism comes from her being a woman in news. It's not that hard guys.

Inter community fighting wouldnt exist if trans men would stop speaking over, hurting and abusing trans women, and then appropriating OUR language and OUR community. If trans men and TMEs would stop pretending like we oppress them, and if they could stop acting like the real world oppression they experience is worse than ours (as if they get murdered in the streets for existing) then we wouldn't have this discourse.
The thing is the vast majority of trans men do not think like that. And you should not have to be the target of those assholes. But I assure you that most trans men talking about the transphobia they face are not trying to talk over trans women, you are interpreting those posts as such because you have been confronted to actual mra. And I'm really really sorry for that.
Please, if you're able to, go interact with your local community, it might help you find an healthier community.
I swear that those hyper vocal trans men you're seeing online are just a noisy majority. The same way binary trans people who attack nonbinary trans people are. If you can understand that Blair White do not speak for trans women, you can also understand that Buck Angel do not speak for trans men.
I'm not trying to attack you here, or to deny the pain you're in. I'm just trying to make you understand that those people are not the majority and that you should try to see trans men talking about there experience as just being that and not them trying to talk over you, except if they said something actually transmisogynistic. But most of the time someone saying "hey I have had the same issue as a trans man" is not an attack but someone who can relate to your experience.
And I'm telling you all of this because 10 years ago the fight was between people who medically transitioned and people who don't. And it created such a hateful environment for no reason at all. Because the problem wasn't "medical transition vs non medical transition", it was that a few people tried to talk for their entire community when shouldn't have. They had created a war that in fact didn't really exist because most trans people who medically transitioned didn't actually gave a shit if some trans people didn't want to. It's the exact same thing here, a few trans men are trying to creat a gap in the community which doesn't actually exist.
Take care of you and the people who hurt you can fuck off.

it's so fucking funny how much of the transandrophobia discourse boils down to people outright saying they don't think trans men can ever be "real" men. why even transition if you believe your assigned sex is inescapable. i'm no optimist or anything either but like, i would kill myself for real if i thought i'd be eternally "classed" as a woman.
