I love the focus on murphy and octavia during pike's flashbacks: octavia responding to his question about the key to survival on earth (not dying), murphy clearly responding to him saying they have to keep fighting despite otherwise acting like the class clown, murphy brazenly affirming he'd survive (and reminding pike of that in the present), murphy becoming The Lesson and actually getting what pike was trying to do, octavia being the first one to try to verbally get pike to stop it, murphy being the first to climb on the dropship (octavia was the first to climb out)...

I love it because first, I love both characters and I think sometimes they are in "dialogue" in a strange way, although this barely scratches the surface. second, because out of that class, they are THEE survivalists, bar none (sidenote: miller also makes it to the end of the show, and although he doesn't have as big a role in this episode, he IS the one who finally stops pike, hitting him in the head. food for thought).

and third, because of something else murphy says, when he saves pike's life (out of pragmatism) and pike smiles with something akin to pride: "go float yourself. everything I learned, I learned on the ground." aka not from you. and they parallel pike trying to teach the class how to light a fire with octavia lighting one in the present... but we know it was lincoln who taught octavia what she needed. lincoln, who pike deprived her of.

in a way, his lessons are best incarnated by the two of them, personified in particular by murphy using a similar strategy as pike beating him to unite the prisoners against a common enemy. in another, if anything in pike's lessons actually stuck, the way later lessons did (in murphy's case a lot of them coming from emori... grounder significant others as teachers <3), it was because there was already something within them geared for them. pike failed, not really through fault of his own (the council really had his hands tied). but he's not the one to be thanked for murphy and octavia's successes. he was not formative for them, in part because, this being a flashback, it couldn't really change anything.

I think people being like “it’s a soap opera what do you expect” are being a little obtuse. Like yes the show gets a little ridiculous or silly but it’s not usually this bad lol. The writers actually built up a lot of trust and good faith especially after s3.

i agree, lol. the surprise kid for judd last season was almost a questionable decision, but i felt the follow through actually wasn't melodramatic, so it worked for me. and s3 did a good job of taking storylines i didn't think i would like and actually making it work reasonably. but i can tell from this single episode and the rushed explanations they had carlos giving, it's absolutely a plot shoehorned in just bc tim maybe considered a connection between iris and carlos in s1 and was, for some reason, convinced this was the funniest way to do it right at this very moment. and i've given him a lot of credit in the past for making smart decisions with what he has in front of him (literally his own doing though), but i do think shows like this reach a point sometimes where it just feels like they're upping the level of ridiculousness almost unnecessarily, just for entertainment/to try catch you off guard. i've felt that way about the og, and this is the first time i've felt it about lone star. it makes me feel less invested when they're willing to give up some of their own prior characterization and literal plot for the sake of dramatic twists (that aren't really twists when you tease the way they do lol).

how could people NOT see that bellamy was transfering his feelings for another girl onto clarke... and that girl was octavia... and those feelings are brotherly... people tried to give tasya teles shit for saying that but she was RIGHT. she was actually PAYING ATTENTION. to the TEXT.

and a little sidenote but, if anything? I believe that in the alternate timeline where the show focused on the blake siblings from the start AND this inevitably resulted in at the very least raising the incestuous vibes? bellarke would've had a better chance to happen than it ever did in the actual show

(ofc anything is higher than zero and it would've only been about bellamy reaching some form of catharsis/closure with octavia and never A Romance but. u know xD)

Your top 5 Lucy is a confident badass moments

Ooooh! I was not expecting this question and it took me a while to figure out a complete answer. I'm also 100% sure I missed some because I didn't comb through every episode or anything. And let's be honest, she's a badass all. the. time.

In no particular order:

#1: DOD and everything in the aftermath

I mean. I don't even need to explain this one, right? Our girl has some serious grit. She's fierce and she's smart and she's a fighter and she never ever gives up, not even in the aftermath when she's faced with working through the worst trauma of her life. And yes, trauma forever changes you, but the fact that she's just as kind and empathetic on the other side is amazing.

#2: 3x06 UC op

The way she just dives in headfirst and comes up with a backstory on the fly? And then digs up all that Tagalog and chemistry knowledge from years ago to keep her cover and keep herself alive? I'm firmly of the belief that long-term undercover work isn't a good fit for Lucy and the life she wants, but there's absolutely no doubt that she's an incredibly skilled UC.

#3: 3x13-14 UC preparation and op

Every piece of her storyline in these two episodes is badass, but really the moment that stands out to me the most is the very end of 3x13 when Nyla organizes the fake kidnapping. You can see it's triggered her so so badly, and watching her ground herself and then talk their way out of it highlights her grit and tenacity.

#4: 5x11 domestic violence storyline

That scene in Kyra's house could have ended so badly. It was really just the perfect combination of badassery and empathy that only Lucy could manage that kept everyone alive.

#5: 5x22 fight scene

Everything about this scene. The fact that Lucy is the one with the plan and that Tim just executes it without question. The fact that they take out so many of these guys. The fact that they make it out alive. This is really more of a Chenford are badass scene but I'm including it here anyway. It was 100% a team effort; neither one of them could have managed this alone.

Honorable mentions:

1x01: arresting the guy on her way in

I mean, what an entrance. From day one, even when she stumbles right out of the gate with Tim, you know she has it in her!

Standing up to Tim from 1x01-2x01

I know this is badass in a different way, but it took some serious guts to call him out. The man was like a bomb waiting to go off, and he could have ended her career at any time, and yet she really never hesitated.

2x07 in the booby trapped house

Again, the grit and tenacity on display here is impressive.

4x05 laundry room scene

I think all of us were Tamara in that moment lol.

Thank god I have an endless amount of scenes I love!! The 3x13 dinner table 'fight'. As someone who grew up around addiction and has her own issues, I think the thing I relate to the most is when TK says "no because you haven't been there and THANK GOD you haven't" . It's 100% how I felt when I tried to explain some of the stuff I went through to my friends and could see in their faces that none of what I said was entirely understood. And it's the most alienating feeling and the best thing in the world because it means they haven't ever felt this before. And at times I was so miserable about it but never never never not grateful.
