Spotting Pop Culture References in Isabel & Nicki's Super Duper Twin Adventures
Isabel's plaid skirt and jacket with fluffy collar and cuffs is pulled straight from Clueless (1995).
Her yellow checked skirt and jacket is probably a reference to Cher's iconic yellow plaid outfit, but I think a little suit like the one in The Parent Trap (1998) would better fit her preppy style, and her age.
Their closets are similar to those of the twins in New York Minute (2004), which starred real life twins Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen.

I was obsessed with the New Adventures of Mary Kate and Ashley book series, and the Full House Michelle ones, the Dear America books,LOTR, the Alice book series by PRN, the Isabelle books by C.c.G, The Fudge series by JB, oh and I recall liking a book called the The Moorchild, and Double Act. even if I don't quite remember them all that much I'd love to reread them as an adult and rediscover what I loved about them. Currently reading - tbh all I read is fanfic nowadays I have some rec'd steddie ones I have bookmarked to read tonight though, thanks onemoore! Can you tell us about your full-length Hunter x OC fanfic? The inspiration for it, when/where it takes place, a brief summary, and what you love most about it?
Do you like writing one-shots or full-length more?
Favorite character?
Favorite trope?
Currently reading?
How's life these days? :)
Thanks, Freesia!! 💜
Well, my Hunter x OC fic is "Sun and Rain" and it's about a woman from Tatooine named Kimber that the Bad Batch rescue and she eventually becomes part of their squad. In the midst of going on adventures with them, she falls in love with Hunter and develops special relationships with all the boys, especially Echo and Crosshair. It starts off with all original stuff and then later connects to the events of the Bad Batch show and is mostly canon compliant, as of right now. Obviously while weaving Kimber into the story, which I find very fun!
The inspiration for it? Not entirely sure, it was just an idea that came to me. Kimber was originally supposed to be for, like, a one shot idea, but then she developed into a totally different, more involved character. I love the personality she has and how much she's grown in the 2 years I've been working on the fic. She's strong and a fierce fighter without being OP or a "Mary Sue" and she's very in touch with her emotions and cares deeply for the Clones and anyone else she considers her friends without being too emotional or coming across as weak. I like to think I've given her a good balance in making her a good character 😊
I do love to write longer fics just cuz my mind just goes wild with ideas and it takes a lot of effort for me to keep one shots short lol
My favorite character...well, if you're referring to Bad Batch, it's Hunter, of course 🥰 If you're talking just in general from any fandom...well, how much time you got? 😜 currently, it's Gajeel from "Fairy Tail" (cuz I'm rewatching the show) and Astarion from "Baldur's Gate 3".
My favorite trope is enemies to lovers or friends to lovers! Good shit right there!
Currently reading: nothing 😅
Life these days is pretty good! I'm getting ready to go to FanX Comic Con in Salt Lake City this week and I'm SO excited!! 😆 I can't wait! I'm meeting Ashley Eckstein, Katee Sackhoff, Zachary Levi and John Rhys-Davies and maybe, hopefully Jim Cummings and I am beyond ecstatic! It's my first time going to a comic con, too. I'll be sure to post pictures of my cosplay as well 😊

'oc that will probably never actually exist' MISSY I LONG FOR THE OC.
AJDJSJSJF OKAY SO
You know Scott (beloved), of course: Ashley's first love, Yada Yada. One of my favorite ocs, possibly.
And if I ever actually write his story, he will end up marrying a woman named Amanda, who up until the wedding knows NOTHING about Abnormals. That's... Pretty important to the story I want to tell, I think, and so I doubt I'd changed it.
BUT
I have imagined a scenario where there was a young woman who started working at the Sanctuary at the same time Scott did. They were aaaaaalmost the Will and Kate of their day, but not quite. Anyway, she became Ashley's best friend, and so she picked up on how to interact with Helen from Ashley. So she has... ZERO hesitation about calling Helen out on stuff, giving her a bear hug, just... Completely cutting through all the "dramatic British Immortal" nonsense. And she gets away with a lot of it, just by virtue of being Ashley's Bestie. And she KNOWS IT, which just adds fuel to the fire.
Anyway, like a year after Ashley and Scott break up, Scott and OC start having feelings for each other, and when Ashley figures it out, she really encourages it. Hard-core, to the point where even though OC would never usually date her friend's ex like that, she's like "... Maybe this is okay?"
Anyway, Scott and OC both grow tired of the pressures of the Sanctuary around the same time, so they leave together, get married, and pursue the grand new adventure of a normal life together.
When the team meets them, there's a bit of whiplash, because OC still acts like she has all the privileges of being Ashley's bestie, while Scott has never quite been able to shake the habit of interacting with Magnus as if he's Ashley's boyfriend desperately seeking this woman's approval. So...
OC: HELEN!!!! *Runs and hugs her* Have you finally given into the call of pumpkin spice lattes? No? Lame. Fine, then, keep being chicken. Love you.
Scott: Dr. Magnus. *Shakes her hand* How have you been? Is work at the Sanctuary going well?
And like... Could Magnus tell Scott he can relax? Sure. Is she gonna? Not a chance.
Anyway, she'll probably never actually exist because A) Like I said, it's a pretty major part of the story I want to tell that the woman Scott marries Does Not Know for most of it, and B) OC is... A fairly shameless self-insert Mary Sue. And like, no shame! I love rotating scenarios in my head with her! But to put the actual energy into telling her story... Eh. I think I like her better in the microwave of my brain. :3

ᵍᵘᵉˢˢ ʷʰᵃᵗ ᶦ ᵇᶦⁿᵍᵉᵈ ʸᵉˢᵗᵉʳᵈᵃʸ
📚 STUFF I READ 📚
🥰Love Exactly (darter_blue) - 64K, zimbits AU - fluffy AU with a chance meeting in a bar and instalove - fun read, like wrapping a warm blanket around yourself
😊👂‍Death Beside the Seaside (Lady Hardcastle Mysteries #6) (T.E. Kinsey, author; Elizabeth Knowelden, narrator) - Emily & Flo try to take a holiday at the seaside but there's no sea and a surprising number of internal spies. -
😍Wish Granted (ambut) - 40K, stucky no powers AU - reread of this fave D/s getting together fic
😊👂‍A Botanist's Guide to Parties and Poisons (Saffron Everleigh Mystery #1) (Kate Khavari, author; Jodie Harris, narrator) - entertaining enough cozy mystery set in 1920s British academia with the standard 'plucky & smart-but-also-foolish' amateur detective (newly minted botanist) trying to exonerate her mentor from murder charges. I enjoyed it enough that I might read another but I'm not feral for it
🥰Winter's Children (Neery) - 66K, stucky - "When their attempts to recreate the super soldier serum failed, Hydra started trying to breed Captain America clones from his genetic samples. Unfortunately, the serum's effects aren't passed down genetically, so instead of an army of tiny Captain Americas, they get a bunch of tow-headed, asthmatic, allergic, immuno-compromised little Steves. And then the Winter Soldier stumbles across Hydra's failed experiment…" - just a great fucking fic. I stayed up until 1AM to read and I am too fucking old to be doing nonsense like that, but it was totally worth it.
😍Fourth Floor (dirtybinary) - 41K, stucky modern magic AU - "The one where Steve is an angry millennial wizard, Sam is a Disney prince, Natasha is a shapeshifter, and Bucky is a spoiler."
🥰👂‍Rattling Bone (OutFoxing the Paranormal #2) (Jordan L Hawk, author; Tristan James, narrator) - another enjoyable & spooky ghost hunting adventure with the OutFoxing The Paranormal found family, this time dealing with Oscar's actual family history/trauma.
🥰You're the One That I Want (PR Zed (przed)) - 53K, stucky modern no powers AU - reread, angsty arranged-marriage-for-insurance that is so satisfying
💖💖 +203K of shorter fic so shout out to these I really loved 💖💖
toasty warm heart (wearing_tearing) - Stranger Things: steddie, 9K - TOO FUCKING CUTE AND WARM AND FLUFFY
as sunshine falls on the wretched (KivrinEngle) - The Hobbit: gen, 18K - a very sweet canon-divergent AU where bilbo adopts a lost little dwarf baby
Handy (softestpunk) - The Sandman: dreamling, 3K - ceramicist Dream lusts after handyman Hob, doesn't make his move, is sad but is saved when he meets the hot professor he's giving a guest lecture for - short and sweet!

Another year, another 110 books read! I don’t love organizing books by genre because I feel like so many of the books I read are a mix of fantasy/horror/queer romance/mystery/etc, but I like to see how it all falls into place. I had started 2022 with the goal of reading more poetry but otherwise had no specific goal except to read whatever I wanted. There were some disappointments, some books I have been meaning to read forever, some new favorites, and some comfortable rereads of old favorites. Overall, a good year!
